7507 VRF and CEF/Fast Switching

I'm running into a problem with a 7507 router running 12.4 where any vlan subinterfaces inside a VRF is being process switched instead of CEF or fast switched. I've verified that the source and destination addresses are valid in the cef FIB but for some reason it's falling back to process switching. Any ideas?
I've attached the config and the output of all the show commands I can think would be related.
For a test instance, packets from source 10.1.25.5 traveling to 216.82.160.42 are process switched, as are packets from 192.168.0.35 to 10.1.27.42.

I'm running the newest 12.4(13b). According to bugtracker it looks like it's supposed to be fixed in 12.4(7.17)T and 12.4(7.17)M, is my understanding correct that the 12.4M fixes would be incorporated into 12.4 mainline?

  • VRF and CEF adj table

    Hello!
I've faced with CEF adj table overflow on SUP720-3BXL when tried to import BGP Full View into VRF on PE.
The scheme is following: border router R1 (6500 SUP720-3BXL) is MPLS PE. BGP session with uplinks are configured in address-family ipv4 vrf Uplink.
I use "Per VRF label" feature for VRF Uplink due to TCAM limitations.
There is another PE router R2 (6500 SUP720-3BXL) in the network with VRF Uplink.
R2 has a problem with CEF adj table overflow because it creates adj entry for each prefix from BGP Full View instead of common entry for all traffic to R01. The content of these adj entries is identical.
Here is some output from R1 and R2:

It seems to me that 6500 need 1 adj entry for 1 FEC and it can't summarize all traffic with defined label to 1 FEC. Am i right?

  • CEF Vs Fast Switching

Hi, Can anyone tell me the diffrence between the two and any reference material which i can acess and go thru. I want to make a presentation on the same. Thanks in advance.

    These are the basic differences.
With Fast Switching, the forward information database (fib) is built gradually on an as needed basis. It starts empty and is built as users need to find destinations.
With the first packet a user sends to destination $x, the ip routing table (rib) is consulted to find the outbound interface toward the ip address of the destination, the arp table is consulted to find the mac addy of the next hop. Being that looking up the destination via the ip routing table/rib is done in software (process switched), it takes more resources to perform this action.
After the lookup, the destination ip and outbound interface is sent to the fib so all subsequent packets to this destination do not have to be looked up (per ip routing table/rib).
With CEF, the full RIB is pushed/mirrored to the CEF FIB after boot so the router/switch does not have to gradually build the CEF FIB. Also MAC addresses for the next hop are contained in the Adjacency table. There is a hash table with pointers from the FIB to the Adjacency Table. This makes it easier for this entire process of packet switching to be programmed into hardware. Subsequently, the first packet sent to a destination does not have to be sent to software unless particular security related features are enabled. In the case of 6500 switches with linecards containing DFC/Distributed Forwarding Cards, each linecard will have a copy of the CEF FIB and Adjacency Table so the “packet switching” can be done on the linecard.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe FastSwitching and CEF switching apply to unicast, not multicast.  Your "IP mroute-cache" command enables/disables fast multicast switching.
On a 3750, switching should be hardware based, for unicast and multicast, unless TCAM resources are insufficient.  If hardware switching falls back to non-hardware switching, you'll likely find process vs. Fast vs. CEF vs. multicast doesn't matter, all too slow.

  • Sharing Itunes library with another User Account & Fast Switching

Hi. I recently purchased a new iMac G5 and am in the process of setting it up to be used by 2 separate users (girlfriend and me). I apologize in advance if this is more of an Itunes issue and not solely an Administration issue.
My question deals with creating a new user account on my Mac (with Fast Switching) and allowing my girlfriend to share my iTunes library with the ability to transfer music to her ipod when she is logged into her own unique account. I will be the Administrator on the Mac.
We are trying to avoid loading our music two times into the Mac under each of our logins. Is there a way that we can share the music I have already loaded into my Itunes library when she is logged into her account so that she can transfer to her ipod and create her own distinct playlists? If so, any advice on how to enable this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Seth
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Unfortunately, baltwo's solution will not allow your girlfriend to create any playlists or copy songs to iPod.
The easiest thing would be to share the entire music folder, so anyone of you can listen to your music.
    You'd have two options.
If you want to be using the exact same library, so any playlist you created can be edited by your girlfriend and vice versa:
    1. Go to yourusername/Music/iTunes. You'll find two files called "iTunes library" and "iTunes music library" Copy them to your desktop, so you'll have a backup just in case.
    2. Move your yourusername/Music folder to computer/users/shared. (The folder will be copied ONLY in case your using FileVault, so you'd have to delete the original User/Music folder after making sure you'd got a functional copy at computer/users/shared) Select users/shared, press "apple+i" to get the info window, go to "Ownership" change all permissions to "read & write" and hit "apply to enclosed items"
    3. In case you're using FileVault, either delete or rename the original Music folder within your own account. Again, not necessary as long as FileVault isn't enabled.
    4. Select computer/users/shared/music, hold down "ctrl" while clicking on it and choose "create alias" from the contextual menu. Copy that alias into your homefolder as well as your girlfriend's account (need to log in) and rename it to "music" without the "alias" at the end.
    5. Launch iTunes. Done.
    6. Don't worry, in case you don't see your music. I've used a slightly different approach, yet this one should work totally fine.
If you want to listen to the same music, yet be able to set up your own playlists, ratings etc.:
    For your account:
    - go to yourusername/Music/iTunes, move "iTunes Music" to computer/users/shared and change ownership according to #2.
    - If FileVault is enabled, check #3. Of course, you want to rename the original "iTunes Music" in this case.
    - create an alias for computer/users/shared/iTunes Music and copy the alias to yourusername/Music/iTunes. Rename it to "iTunes Music" without "alias".
    - Launch iTunes. Should be working the way it used to. Quit.
    For your girlfriend's account:
    - log in, copy alias to username/Music/iTunes, rename alias.
    - Launch iTunes, go to File-> Add to Library, select username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, choose.
    That's it.
The only downside is, only one user at a time can access the music folder, so if you're logged in and running iTunes, you're girlfriend, logged in via fast user switching, won't be able to open iTunes until you quit it for yourself. Haven't found a way around this yet.
Fell free to report any issues.
    huhh...rather long posting...

  • Fast switching problem

When I Fast Switch to new user, everything seems to work perfectly: the Users Desktop appears and I can click on Applications in the Dock, the Hard drive spins up and the little blue dot appears indicating that the Application has opened, but nothing appears on the Desk Top.  I can use Apple=Tab short cut to move between Open Applications, but no Application Window ever appears.  Also the Menu Bar across the top doesn't work properly: I can highlight Icons TimeMachine and see when the last Backup was done, nothing else.  The only choice is to Hold the power button down until the system completely shutsdown and restart.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

  • Monitor color profile, fast switch script

    Hi everyone,
I often switch between two monitor color profile, the default one "LED Cinema Display" and the calibrated one, named with the date of calibration (ex:"22June2011").
Is there a way to fast switch between this two with a script, without entering in monitor preferences and move to color tab every time? Maybe set an icon on the menu bar... Or an icon on the dock...
    Thanks,
    Filippo

More important, the question is not about color management, is about scripting.
Otherwise we're just wasting words, that doesn't seem the right place to speak about profiling...
Do you want help or not? What you're asking has everything to do profiling and color management. You're going about the use of profiles for your monitor completely wrong.
Any profile is an image of how that, and only that device displays, captures or reproduces color. The only monitor profile that makes any difference is one you create. Since you're using i1Profiler, then you must be using an i1 Pro to profile the monitor.
The monitor profile you made with i1Profiler is the only one you should be using. It is an exact description of the white point, black point, gamut and color range of the monitor you are looking at. The canned profile has nothing to do with the monitor in front of you. It's a generic average that is just short of completely useless since it is not a direct description of the monitor you own. Forget the "LED Cinema Display" profile, or any other canned profile on the system.
I can only assume you're trying to simulate CMYK color in Photoshop. To do that, your start with the monitor profile you have. To create a meaningful CMYK simulation, you need to create your own inks file to use as your CMYK color space in Photoshop.

  • Is it possible for Nexus7000 flexible netflow monitor for interfaces with different vrf and export to one netflow analyzer?

I have a Nexus 7000 with many vlan interfaces with multiple vrf, I would like to know if my netflow analyzer only connected to one vrf, can I use flexible netflow on the Nexus 7000 to monitor those vlan interfaces with multiple vrf and export them to my netflow analyzer, so that I can see all flow from different vrfs on my netflow analyzer?
    Thank you!

Adriano, there is a RV042G, which supports the gig ports and a 800 mbps nat throughput. Here is the datasheet
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps10907/ps9923/ps12262/data_sheet_c78-706724.html
If you are using a DSL connection, the SRP527/547 models may be an alternative. These models support the RFC 1483 Bridges EOA Please note the SRP547 should be 10/100/1000. Also note the SRP521/541 are Fast Ethernet units and they do differ from the SRP527/547. The main selling point of these devices are the FXS/FXO ports. So this may also be a bit of an "unfocused" solution. But it's worth throwing the idea out there!

  • Windows 8.1 U1 bug with unresponsive start screen when fast-switching users

While testing out the bug described here ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/c9a3c605-9e7f-47ce-84ec-791a1627ebf0/windows-81-u1-hiding-taskbar-in-multimonitors-setup-bug?forum=w8itprogeneral ), I've found another bug - if the secondary
monitor is lower than the main one, start screen becomes completely unresponsive when fast switching users. You can click on any tiles, on start in lower left corner or try searching apps - it does nothing. Here's the screen recording http://1drv.ms/1k8au8O
. The secondary screen is usable at the same time, and sometimes you can run start screen on it (in such a case, it disappears on main screen and appears on secondary screen, but is also unresponsive), or you can't click at start icon at all (it appears highlighted
in the taskbar and doesn't response to clicks).
MSFT's testers should test such a setup a bit more, I think.

    Hi,
What’s your meaning of secondary monitor is lower than the main one?
I test the dual screen, fast user switching works good, so what’s your condition?

  • Boot Camp "Fast Switching" has disappeared?!?!

I haven't found the need to switch into windows until today because I have been so blown away by the new features(including stacks). But right before I did I remembered the fast switching feature that safe sleeps your mac and hibernates Windows, so you can switch more quickly. I went searching for it and couldn't find. Does anybody know where it went? Or did it.....dun dun dunnn.... disappear??!!?? Iwas really looking forward to this feature and would like to see it found or added sometime soon(10.5.1!).
    Thanks,
    Sammy

    It's apparently gone.
If anyone has any news on this, it'd be nice to hear.
Not like I boot into Windows anyway.

  • Fast Switching Troubles

Love my iMac, but recently, one of the accounts enabled for fast switching can no longer log in! I have deleted the entire account and re-created it to no avail. It shows up as a valid account, but when I try to log in, I get the dreaded blue screen and it won't allow me any access. Every other account is working fine, but now I am stuck at 3 accounts and there are FOUR of us. This is very frustrating! I have been online with Mac specialists and also on the phone with them, and nothing helps. HELP!

Hello Hyacinth, and welcome to the discussions:
Can you give us a run-down of what the Mac specialists have had you try in your efforts to resolve this? If we know what has already been done, maybe we can suggest something that hasn't been tried yet, short of reinstalling the OS.

  • HT3053 I have a 13inch MacBook Pro and when I switch it on the apple logo appears then a slot and the circular symbol which is turning and then before opening the home screen it switches off again. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to load.

I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

  • My iPod 5th gen. doesn't have a back camera. Can I trade it in for one that does have a back camera? If I can, can I keep all my pictures and have them switched over to the other one?

If you purchased it from Apple within the last 14 days then you can return it for a full refund. otherwise no. If you purchased it elsewhere you have to check with them.

  • Calendar first and second alerts switch on their own

Hi, I've been having this problem for a while with my iPhone 4, wondering if anyone can help.
I've tried looking if there's already a thread for this issue, but couldn't find one -- maybe I'm just not using the correct keywords.
Every time I set my first and second alerts on my calendar appointment and saved them, they seem okay, but 2 minutes later when I go back to the same appointment, the first and second alerts switch on their own, e.g.: I set first alert to go on 2 hours before and second alert to go on 1 hour before the appointment. Save. When I return 2 minutes later, first alert turned to 1 hour before and second alert 2 hours before.
Which is silly, since who needs their second alert to be farther than their actual appointment? Even iphone knows this and cancels the second alert altogether. By the time I've been alerted, I only have an hour to get ready for my next appointment.
Anyone has encoutered this problem and has successfully solved them? I've tried setting my default time zone under setting to local, and even turning off iCloud, to no success.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have found what appears to be a resolution to this issue, when I add an event and I select the event time, the date time scroller opens up allowing me to select the time of the event.
The issue occurs when I leave this selector expanded and continue to set the event properties. When the time selector is still open and you select the alert times, it swaps the alerts every time. When you collapse the event time selectors before choosing the alert times, the alerts are not switched.
This bug appears to be an issue with the scrolling selector form item if there is more than one open it appears to error out.
If you don't know how to collapse the event time selector, once you have selected the time, click on the date/time that is in red text just above it and it will collapse the selector.
Hopefully this fixes the issue for others, and it is ridiculous that this has gone one for so long, not a good way to keep your customers Apple, my wife was so aggravated at this that she was about to cancel her iPhone.
