7600 or ASR 1000 Series as ISP EDGE WAN

Hi experts,
I want your opinion on something.
We currently have 6 STM1 and will soon have an additional 2x STM4.
The existing STM's are connected on a 7600.
We are planning to do a major upgrade in order to cater for the additional STM4 and will be grateful if i can have your views on the matter.
Right now we cannot accept full BGP table from our upstream provider due to the low mem on the 7600.
So we are thinking on either going towards two 7600 with SUP3cXL which will be able to cater for the full BGP table + we need to buy additional line cards. Or we go towards the ASR1000 series, which i think might be an overkill, but am definitely thinking of future growth.

We don't need any additional cards apart for the POS ports and 3X10G interfaces.
Plus we need something that will be able to cater for the whole BGP table.
I was task to build a business case on the matter. But it will be a bit difficult to convince the business on the go about of the ASR (if you know what i mean). So my business case needs to be solid.

We are planning to change our 7206VXR as P/PE routers. Currently we only have 2 nodes that is running on STM-1. on each node we have 7206VXR NPEG2 that is acting as PE and P router.
our requirement is getting bigger we will be upgrading our WAN links to STM-4 soon (and to STM-12 in the future) and we will also be adding more nodes.
I'm confused on what platform would be best for our network, 7600 or ASR1000......7600???? 7606 or 7604? ASR 1000???? ASR1004 or ASR 1006.
I want my router to accomodate the growth in the network.
I need your advise/expertise on this.

Hi,
ASR1k runs IOS-XE, which is IOS. It does not run IOS-XR. ASR9k runs IOS-XR.
The newer platforms, like ASR1k, ASR9k, have more throughput, while 7200 e.g. has a bigger
range in different kinds of port adaptors. If you only plan to use ethernet interfaces for example, then
you could only look at the newer platforms like ASR1k, ASR9k, or even 7600 and choose
a specific model based on the number of ports you'd need.

ASR 1000 election

Hello all,
We are about to change our Internet Gateway Routers in our main datacenter. Now we have two C3945 as a Internet Gateway Routers and other two C3945E as Core Routers.
We are evaluating the possible alternatives and we think that the ASR 1000 series is the better solution for us. But we have reviewed the Ordering Guide and we have several doubts about that. Our first approach was buy two ASR 1001 in order to substitute the actual four routers. In theory this solutions offers us 100% redundant scenario (hardware and software) but in the Ordering Guide specifies the following: software redundancy (FLSASR1-IOSRED) is not recommended for Internet Gateway deployments.
What means this exactly ? Why is not recommended the software redundancy in the Internet Gateway deployments?
The second approach is install just one 1006 with redundant RP and ESP. But maybe this deployment is too big for our organizations. Also in this case the solution is not 100% redundant.
Could someone help us with this topic?

Anyway, I can understand from your answer that Cisco has not tested yet certain functionalites with dual-IOSd. I do not understand how this can affect in a scenario with double chassis (two ASR1001 for example). Maybe I'm forgetting something important...

Where to check license details - ASR 1000 firewall

I am looking for for details meaning of license because I cannot found the details install. The license call
FLASR1-FW-RTU(=)
that is used to enable the firewall function in ASR 1000 series. But I don't clear about what feature inside, it is because it only show the "firewall" from website. Is that same as IOS firewall?

Firewall service: The Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router Firewall application requires a RTU license (FLASR1-FW-RTU(=)), which allows you to enable Layer 4-through-Layer 7 firewalling. To enable per subscriber/user firewall in broadband and enterprise deployments, the firewall RTU license, as well as the number-of-session licenses listed in the "Broadband service" section, is required. Please refer to the "Per subscriber/user firewall service" section.

EoMPLSoGRE using ASR 1000

Hi All,
I need to extend Layer 2 between two Data Centers over IP cloud. I am looking at the EoMPLSoGRE option and wondering which ASR I need to buy to have this feature working. Will basic model of ASR 1000 do? Or, do we have to buy any specific model of ASR ( and SPAs) for this EoMPLSoGRE to be working. Any specific version of IOS needed for this feature?
As of now, we have L3 MPLS VPN between the sites, terminated on Cisco 3900 series routers. We want to use this IP cloud to build this L2 extension just temporaily for migrating some servers where we cannot change the IP address of the servers due to application complexities.
Any help is hightly appreciated. Also, if you can point me to a sample setup and configuration for EoMPLSoGRE, it would be of great help.

Any ASR Model running IOS XE 2.4+ supports ATOM Over GRE, i would recommend you to read this document in detail, and tell us if you need any further help.

Remote update of a 1000 series LWAP

My company recently went from an old airspace 4024 with firmware 3-2-195-13 to a new 4402-50 running 4-1-185-0. Using Option 43 in DHCP allowed the new 4402 to see the AP's on different VLan's and Subnet's and issue IP addresses to the AP's and clients. It appears several of the AP's have not pulled down the new firmware and are stuck at 3.2. I have rebooted the AP's and tried multiple other tricks. Is there a Cisco utility that will allow me to update these LWAP's via mac or IP? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure I could go around, collect these AP's bring them back to the 4402's location throw it in layer 2, reboot and they would take the update but that is too time consuming of a process.

I know from experience that the 1131 and 1230 APs can't be upgraded from 3.2 to 4.1 because a 440x controller can't be upgraded from 3.2 to 4.1.
Check the release notes on the 4-1-185 software.
They state:
"Important Note: If you are running any lower version than 4.0.206.0 in 4.0 stream or if you are running lower version than 3.2.195.10 image in 3.0 stream , please upgrade the controller to 4.0.206.0 or higher for 4.0 stream and 3.2.195.10 or higher for 3.0 stream before loading 4.1.171.0 image."
They are suggesting that if you want your APs to upgrade from their current 3.2 software you must upgrade them to 4.0.x software first. Then you can upgrade to 4-1-185.
I would downgrade the controller software and see if the 1000 series APs will run the lower version. Then I would upgrade the controller to the latest software and verify that these APs are running 4-1-185 software.

Printer driver for an HP LaserJet 1000 series for use with Windows 7

The CD ROM HP LaserJet 1000 series printer driver is not recognized by my new Windows 7 PC. So the printer does not work. I've looked on the HP web site for compatible drives and get the hint that a Vista driver would work. Can someone please confirm if this possible and how this is accomplished? Thanks.

Where did you find a hint that Vista drivers would work? This page says:
Your LaserJet model is not supported in Windows 7.

Additionally, this page says the Laserjet 1000 is not supported in Vista.
If you are using the 32 bit version of Windows 7 it may be possible to download the XP drivers here and install them.

very well. the mod 160 has 4 NPU's, 2 per bay. So if you have a 4x10 MPA to serve a satellite, you effectively have a single NPU per 20 1Gigs from the satellite. The pps performance will be stellar. However it might be price technically more ideal to connect satellite with a 36x10. Since the MOD-x has native MPA's with 1G also.
2. Is there a shortcut for a Bundle-EthernetX interface, such as port-channel interface (poX), in Cisco IOS® ?.

depends on the type we had avaialble at time of production, you will see different sizes and disks on the RSP2. the rpm of the HD is not so much an issue as much as the buffered writing we used to do in XR. This is fixed up with XR43 where the disk writing performance is much better. the HD/SDD is used for logging storage only (and maybe your pictures) but other then that we're not that concerned with write perf of the HD.

this error comes with the command PPP multilink, it is a lot of letters and numbers and then this last line comes this message

Hi,
Ok, the message is indicating that one of the tunnels can't find the adj device through default route (0.0.0.0)
Check your tunnels and make sure they are all working correctly and have peering. I am not sure if this is possible, but see if you can figure out if the tunnels have been running for some times or anyone of them flapping

oh that is somewhat vague, but let me try...
in order to enable snmp access to an interface in a vrf you need to enable MPP (management plane protection) in that vrf.
Something like this:
control-plane
management-plane
inband
interface Loopback100
allow all
if you have this and it doesn't work, a config snippet and some debugs (like debug snmp packet) will help to define what to do next.

IOTECH DAQ PCI5501 1000 Series - ADC

I'm a student and new to Labview and DAQ cards, so this should be easy for most of you reading this...
I have an IOTECH 1000 series DAQ card. I am able to input a sine wave into one channel and get results of the A/D conversion; however, I cannot get more than one channel to work...
I have configured the channels I want and am getting data, but it isn't valid data. I have also configured for single-ended and am getting errors (invalid configuration error #5601).
Specifically, when I am configured for one input 0(1) and differential, I get what seems to be valid data (sine wave from signal generator on CH0 and SGND). When I configure for two channels 0(1),1(1) I get crap...moreoever, the second column of the array is nothing but ones and zeros, which led me to believe the DAQ is set for differential by default. So, I configured it for single-ended and I get the same data, but I also get an error for the single-ended configuration (invalid configuration error# 5601). Also, when I tie the same input to CH0 and CH1, I get ones and zeros in both columns of the array.
The documentation for IOTECH seems to be ok for initial setup, but they don't give any examples. They say that it's compatible with Labview and provide a pdf file for using the DAQ with Labview, but it's nothing more than basic setup/config info for the VI's. I've searched and searched and can't find a clear answer or any information that seems to help. I also ran across a comment about a HI and LO side for the analog inputs...but they say it has 16 single-ended inputs...and I have 16 analog inputs on my card...nothing about a HI and LO. Anyway...
I hope this was clear. If not, feel free to ask for clarification and additional information. I'm sure anyone who has used this DAQ card and Labview can answer this question. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with IOTech DAQ devices, so I can't offer any personal experience to guide you in that regard. However, you might want to contact IOtech through their technical support page here for additional help with their LabVIEW driver package and hardware configuration. They would be best suited to answer your questions.

ASR 9000 series PPP session limit

Hello!
Guys could you plese tell how many ppp sessions ASR 9000 can terminate.We are planning no build SP network I know 7600 series routers cаn terminate 64k ppp session per box ( 16K per ESP+ module 8K per SIP module).
Unfortunately I could not find any information regarding this matter anyware.
A believe A9K-SIP-700 module can do that.

Correct, when you are using a bundle, the resources are replicated and programmed on all NPU's that have members in that bundle.
So for instance, if you have a MOD80 linecard, and you have 2 members in a bundle, and each member is located on a different NPU, then you will be limited to 32k subs TOTAL on that linecard, because the first limit

And well stated indeed! The disadvantage is that we burn the same structures on multiple NPU's, so duplication of programming maybe, but it does provide for Advtange of seamless failover between bundle members.
To continue on your design: if I'd have a 36x10 card, which 6 NPU's and 2 member bundles, I can easily reach 64k
even if the bundle members are spread over 2 NPU's.
I would need 2 linecards for this obviously.
With a MOD80, having 2 NPU's, and 2 member bundles whereby the members are connected to each NPU, I am limited to 32k subs on that LC because of the first limit, but if I have 4 linecards like this I can have 4x32k subs no problemo
because then we hit the system scale clause.
Not sure if this makes it more clear or whether I am confusing you more, but let me know if this makes it more complex
