I am having problems with a cisco 1760 router. When I turn the router on I am getting stuck in rommon mode. When I enter the command: "boot flash:c1700-sv8y7-mz.123-11.T3.bin" , the router will boot the ios image. But when i turn the router off and on, it will return to rommon mode. I have tried the following commands in rommon mode:

    rommon 2 > reset
    or
    rommon 1 > confreg 0x142

I would recommend posting in the netpro forums about this.
    http://www.cisco.com/go/netpro
This site is for the Cisco Small Business Pro routers.
For your problem though, you might try looking at your boot system command in your running config to make sure that it is accurate.

  • CWLMS 3.1 : CiscoView of Cisco 7606-S Router

    Hi Friend,
I am facing some issue with CiscoView of 7606-S router.
Please find the attachment for more details.
In figure, The RED Marked LAN port appears GREEN when viewed through CiscoWorks but physically on Cisco 7606-S router, no such port exists at all.
Also besides this, we have 3 fiber ports and 2 RJ-45 port on Cisco router visible through CiscoView, but physically on Cisco router 2 Fiber and 2 RJ-45 port are present.
first fiber port is up and connected whereas when seen through CiscoWorks, it shows 3rd fiber port as green.

you can not display your 7600 in ciscoview, the most probably reason is that a device package is needed to do this. do the following:
    1. Download the device package from the link (Cat6000IOS.cv50.v29-1.zip, Cat6000IOS.cv50.v29-1.readme)
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/apps/vwplan/cvresult.cgi?product_class=Routers&product=Internet+Router+7600+IOS&application=All+Versions
    2. Go to Common Services > Software Center > Device Update, then select CiscoView > click on 'Check for updates' > select 'Enter Server Path' and enter the path where you downloaded the files > continue the instructions to
    install it.
This will probably need to restart ciscoworks to apply the changes.

  • Wireless configuration on 877W router - STUCK

    Hi all
I have a Cisco 877W router running IOS v 12.4(15)T3. Have been trying to configure wireless to run WPA-PSK and is stuck at the final stage. Spent a lot of time configuring the router using CLI but ended up using the Web GUI interface. I was able to configure the wireless settings (I think) but failed when connecting to the router from WinXP-SP2 and was wondering if you have any suggestion for me. I've ran the following debugs on the router:
    VNRouter#sho debug
DHCP server event debugging is on.
    dot11:
802.1X module WPA/WPA-PSK/CCKM key management debugging is on
    dot11 Syslog debugging is on
Below is the error message when connecting wirelessly

*Mar 4 18:47:25.579: *** Not encrypted dot1x packet from 001b.771a.dbad has been discarded.
I've created two VLANs (and tied these two vlans to 2 separate SSID) on this router for a reason and so far has not been able to connect to any of them (SSID). I've also attached the config so you can have a look. Thanks in advance for your help.

The configuration looks fine. In most cases, the connectivity issues with WPA-PSK is due to the mismatch in PSK on the Client and the AP. Try re-entering the PSK key on both the router and the client and check if you are seeing any issues.

  • WRT120N router stuck in "recovery tool" screen

I needed to factory reset my wireless router and I was able to get to the router's recovery tool screen by holding reset for 30 secs and then unplugging the power cord and holding down the reset button while plugging the power back in.  The screen prompts me to browse to a firmware location (which I downloaded the latest firmware from cisco) and install it.  I did.  Then I tried holding the reset button 30 sec then unplugging it and plugging the power back in but the recovery tool is still coming up.  I tried just holding the reset button for 60 secs (maybe even 90 sec) but it never resets.  Before I call tech support does anyone have any suggestions?

@w6p0kn; if you are prompted by management mode firmware upgrade while trying to access the router’s setup page, then try to use other browsers or better yet try to use another windows computer. If you are having problems upgrading the router’s firmware, then try this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a72f05de8a5f4a789db726d535ea68cb_KB__EN_v1.xml&pid....

So the question now is how should I get a new IOS + a new BOOT image for my router?
Obviously the orignal location of the boot img has been deleted, can it be undeleted?
    regards
    Chris

    Hey Chris,
It certainly appears that the images on your flash card are corrupted.  Are these the only 2 file systems that you have images on?  The other option you would have is to remove the flash card, load a valid image on it from another chassis or your PC, and re-install it and try to boot from it.  The router will likely complain that the card needs to be formatted in it before using, however.  Outside of trying to boot from a remote image using TFTP, which may or may not work, you would likely need to replace the card.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hardware Requirement for IP SLA Shadow Router

    Hi All,
I would like to implement an IP SLA shadow router running pathEcho application with 365 IP SLA instances. I tried it on a Cisco2811 with 64MB flash and 256MB memory. The problem is that the Cisco2811 cannot handle all the operation when put into production. The router cannot be access/managed anymore. Any suggestion will be much appreciated on what platform I can use to support all the IP SLA instances that I would like to run.
    Many Thanks,
    Almar

    Hello,
How are you starting these 365 IP SLA sessions? Simultaneous or sequentially?
    Q. What is a dedicated (shadow) SLAs router?  What are the benefits?
    A. The dedicated or SLAs router is used exclusively for Cisco IOS IP SLAs  operations and is connected to the edge routers to simulate the customer  network traffic. It is typically a Cisco 2600, 2800, 3700, 3800, or  7200 Series Router.
So, your device is recommended by Cisco to be use as dedicated SLA router.
Regarding the CPU and memory utilisation:
    Q. To what extent does Cisco IOS IP SLAs  impact CPU utilization or memory?
    A. As Cisco IOS IP SLAs is a software-based measurement, it does consume  CPU usage and memory.
Table 2  illustrates the CPU usage based on 2,000 active operations, activated  sequentially. The data generated per operation is 10 packets of 64 byte  sizing, with 20ms spacing using the IP SLAs jitter operation. The data  represents four destinations, activated per one second versus percentage  of CPU usage in a 12.4 Cisco IOS release.
Table 2. Cisco IOS IP SLAs CPU Usage
    Operations/ Second
    Operations/ Minute
    2620XM
    3725
    7200VXR
    NPE-G1
    4
    240
    7
    2
    0
The memory  used per Cisco IOS IP SLAs operation does vary with different Cisco IOS  Software releases.
Table  3. Cisco IOS IP SLAs Memory Usage
Cisco IOS Software 12.2 and above
    UDP Jitter
    < 12KB
    UDP Echo
    < 3.5KB
    ICMP Echo
    < 3.2 KB
    More you can find here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/technologies/tk648/tk362/tk920/technologies_qas0900aecd8017bd5a_ps6602_Products_Q_and_A_Item.html
Your router resources should support your 365 IP SLA connections. Even if you start them simultaneously and admit that these are consuming all router resources, you will have your connection to the router stuck for some seconds and then you shoul gain the connectivity again. Check with:
    show proc cpu history
    show proc memory sorted
If you have spikes of utilisation or permanent memory and CPU are used to the limit.
More than this, it would help if you can paste here an excerpt about your IP SLA session configuration.
    Good luck!

  • PASSWORD RECOVERY ON 2600 ROUTER

    Hi all
I tried to recover the password from a 2600 serie router. In rommon 1, I accidentally typed 0x2124 instead of
0x2142, after I typed reset to accept the
change, the router loading but it never bring me to user and previlege mode that allow me to change the password. any one know how to reset the router back to
default setting? Thank in advance for any help!!!
    GARYT68

    Gary,
The 2124 register setting says to Netboot, but also changes the console speed to 19200. Change your program port setting to 19200 8-N-1, versus 9600 8-N-1.
Here's a link to the document that tells you all about these settings.

  • Booting a router

Is there a way to ensure that a 2800 router will boot if the Flash is corrupt.  Normally, I just boot an image from Flash.  I would like to add a command to the configuration to boot from a FTP or TFTP server if the Flash is corrupt.  I have discovered that I can FTP boot if the Flash is good but if I have a corrupt Flash, I cannot do the FTP boot either.  Is the image trying to be downloaded (FTP'ed) to the corrupt Flash before it is loaded?  Following are the commands I use in the router config, but if the Flash is corrupt the FTP will not proceed.  Any hints?  Thanks.
    boot system flash c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T4.bin
    boot system tftp c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T4.bin 10.14.1.193

My goal is to have a backup method that will be automatic if the flash load of the ios fails, due to a corrupt flash.  In the past, I reloaded a router that is several thousand miles away.  The flash was corrupt so the router went into ROMMON.  I was hoping that I could set up a FTP download of the IOS so that the router would not go into ROMMON.  However, my experience is that if the Flash is corrupt, the FTP will, also, not execute.  Is this correct?  Thanks.

  • Which is the maximum number of simultaneous IP sessions on 7600 with/out SAMI?

Please I need help from someone who has ever wondered and get to know the maximum number of simultaneous IP sessions on 7600.
On the documentation, this is the applicable information that we find regarding the number of sessions:
    http://www9.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/isg/configuration/guide/isg_acess_sub_sessns_ps6922_TSD_Products_Configuration_Guide_Chapter.html
Beginning in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SRE, the Cisco 7600 router supports IP subscriber sessions only on the SIP400 and ES+ line cards
The Cisco 7600 router enforces limits on the number of IP subscriber sessions per line card and router chassis. If the number of active sessions exceeds the following limits, an error message displays:
    - Cisco 7600 chassis—32,000 subscriber sessions (supported in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SRE1 and later releases)
    - ES+ line card—4000 subscriber sessions per port group; 16,000 sessions per line card (supported in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SRE and later releases)
    - SIP400 line card—8000 subscriber sessions (supported in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SRD4 and later releases)
Let us suppose that we use the SIP400 line card, since ES+ is far from our networking requirements.
    Please confirm/answer the following:
No special license is required to use ISG with SIP400.
Is the 8000 session limitation per SIP400 module or per SPA attached to it?
I read in the documentation, that the SAMI card enhances the maximum number of ISG sessions:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/isg/configuration/guide/isg_sup_sami_blade.html
The ISG Support for SAMI Blade feature combines the subscriber management features and functions of the Cisco Intelligent Services Gateway (ISG) with the processing power of the Cisco Service Application Module for IP (SAMI). The Cisco SAMI blade has six PowerPC (PPC) processors and occupies just one slot in the Cisco 7600 series router. This means that you can support many ISG features for up to 600,000 subscribers on a single router.
We then assume that the SAMI blade overcomes the limitations noted above: 32,000 session/chassis and 8,000 sessions/SIP400. Correct?
No extra license is required to use ISG with SAMI.

How I can load a license in a home agent (modulo SAMI), which is installed in a 7606-S router?.

  • 806 Out-of-Box Problems

    Hello,
I picked up a used 806 from a local ISP that was pulled from a working environment.
I was hopeful (but not optimistic) that I would be able to plug and play to get an internet connection (as the quick-setup suggests I should be able to).
I've tried to eliminate all variables so I have 1PC connected directly to the router. There is no internet WAN connection.
In this simple configuration, I am not able to ping the router (which is at 10.10.10.1). The router is also not able to ping the PC using terminal services.
Given this connection problem, the pc obviously is not able to pull an IP from the router.
I'm not sure exactly what the ISP originally used the router for, however, at this point I'd rather not reconfigure. I'd simply like to return the unit to factory defaults.
Does anyone have any advice on how I might do this?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
    Jon S

    Hello Jon,
do you have a console cable ? If so, connect it to the console port of the 806. Reboot the router and hit Ctrl+Break (this is the same procedure as during a password recovery). This should get you into ROMMON:
    rommon 1>
    At the ´rommon´ prompt, type:
    rommon 1>confreg 0x2142
Then reboot the router by typing:
    rommon 1>reset
Your router now reboots and puts you through the normal factory default setup routine.

  • Broken network alias/Weird netstat results

After working fine for months, all of a sudden I can't connect to one particular system I have on my home network (it is a network attached storage device). The problem is only from one machine (I have 2 other Macs and they work fine). I also have other systems (including another identical storage device) that all still work fine. My network alias links for this device complain that they are broken. I can't connect regardless of the protocol I use -- SMB, FTP or HTTP. I can't even ping it as I get "no route to host".
I changed the IP address of the system to see if I could get around it that way -- no good. I checked the network tables (netstat -rn) and found that there are some curious entries for that device both before/after I changed its IP address:
    192.168.1.10 127.0.0.1 UHS 0 0 lo0
    192.168.1.15 link#4 UHLW 0 9 en0
These appear to be static routes stuck in the routing table that give erroneous routing information on how to travel to my storage device. Any idea how I get rid of these entries as, it seems, they are the key to solving the issues I'm seeing?

You can use the route command to manipulate your routing tables.
    sudo route delete 192.168.0.10
Or you can flush them all with route flush but you'd better be prepared to add the default gateway back (e.g. sudo route add default 192.168.0.1).
But that's more informational than anything, 'cause I don't think that will solve your problem. Something's advertising those routes and they'll probably show right back up. Maybe I'm wrong, give it a try.
