785GTM-E45 not POSTing

Just bought a new 785GTM-E45 today at Fry's along with:
Athlon 2 X2 255 CPU
Patriot 2x2GB PC6400 RAM
Coolmax V600 PSU
     +5V = 24A
     +3.3V = 24A
     +12V1 = 18A
     +12V2 = 18A
     +12V3 = 15A
     -12V = 0.5A
     +5vsb = 2.5A
     +3.3V & +15V max = 160W
     +12V1 & +12V2 & +12V3 max = 450W
I'm getting a beep code (1 long, 2 short) that seems to be indicating a video problem.  I'm using the onboard video at the moment (no PCI-e video to test with).  Is there any way I can confirm this before I assume it's a bad board?
Thanks much,
Aaron

I tried one stick at a time with no changes.  With no RAM I got a different beep pattern.  I had my monitor connected to the DVI output via an adaptor, swapping this to the VGA connection seems to have solved the issue.... does this even make sense?

  • 785GTM-E45 not POSTing after a week (Need help)

    Hello guys and girls,
    Good day to you.
I am new here as I just happily purchase my new MSI motherboard last week. Yay~
However, I am now currently facing problem in POSTing the PC after it was working beautifully for a week. Hope someone can help me as I have exhausted my testing/diagnostics options.
Some other infos that might be informative :-
1.) APS LED does not light anymore.
2.) No longer have successful POST beep anymore. (CPU Cooler comes on though)
3.) Of course the black screen.
4.) The last boot time, I remember seeing CMOS related error in the POST screen. After that loaded into Windows XP 32bit and I restarted the PC. Then the No POST happened.
    My PC hardware components :-
    CPU: Athlon X2 5000 (2.2GHz)
Motherboard: MSI 785GTM-E45 (ver 1.4) (No idea on how to check the BIOS as I can't even POST now)
RAM: I have 4 units working memory that I have tested to be working in this motherboard before it is not POSTing.
    a.) Kingston DDR2 667MHz (KVR667D2N5/2G) [1 Stick]
    b.) Mushkin DDR2 800MHz [1 Stick]
c.) Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066MHz 2x1GB Kit [2 Sticks] (using this one as the main before it failed to POST)
    Graphics: Using onboard
    PSU: Seasonic S12D 750W
    a.) +3.3V = 24A ; +5V = 30A. (150W)
    b.) +12V Combine = 62A (744W)
    c.) -12V = 0.8A (9.6W)
    d.) +5Vsb = 3A (15W)
Diagnostics that I have done :-
1.) Checked whether the motherboard is touching the casing which will ground it. The motherboard is screwed on the standoffs with a 1.5cm away from the case. Checked the motherboard edges, not touching the casing either. Checked whether is there any screws that are short-circuiting the motherboard, nothing there as well.
2.) Unplug the HDD and ODD. No POST as well. Plugged the HDD and ODD to another computer, it works.
3.) Triple checked the power connections in the PC. No POST. After that plugged my Seasonic PSU to another computer to test. It was working.
4.) Plugged another working PSU (Xigmatek 550W) from a working PC. Quadruple check the power connections is correct. No POST still.
5.) Test the memory DIMMs with different slots (all 4 of them). Installed one at a time and each time is in different slot. No POST still. Tried the board with NO memory, it beeps non-stop (Good news it is still working?)
6.) Did the Clear CMOS method according to manual. No POST still.
7.) Checked the monitor by plugging into another computer and see whether is it faulty. Is working.
8.) Retest all the memory DIMMs in another PC. All 4 DIMMs is working in another PC.
9.) Carefully remove the CPU and reseat the processor. After that retest all the 4 memory DIMMS (No matter which slot). No POST still.
10.) Disassemble the motherboard from the casing and other components to checked whether the capacitors are bad. Didn't detect any.
11.) Plugged in a working graphic card to check whether the onboard graphic is faulty. No POST still.
So now, I think I am left with 2 possibilities. The processor or the motherboard, however, the motherboard was the one showing symptoms based on the LED thing. So I am siding towards the motherboard is faulty?
I am out of ideas now. Hope someone can help me.

Yes, the CPU power is connected. both the 4 pins and 24 pins.
Some updates, I went to buy a Sempron 140 processor to test just for the sake whether the mobo works.. I just burnt some money on it.. it won't work.. Brought the motherboard back to the shop, they tested it and it is faulty.. so warranty claim. Guess I wont have a mobo for sometime..
Consider solved and I just burnt some money buying a spare proc which I think I wont be using also. haha.
Thanks for everyone who attempted to help me.

  • 785GTM-e45 enable Unlock CPU Core - won't post past sata harddrive detection

I recently bought a 785GTM-E45 and have a Phenom II x2 560 in it.  I have a sata harddrive drive attached with the Raid setting to AHCI.  I have windows 7 x64 running fine, but wanted to see if I could unlock any cores.  If I enable ACC but leave Unlock CPU Core to Disabled, I can boot fine.  But when I change Unlock CPU Core to Enabled and reboot, i get the Post messages and it identifies the CPU as Phenom II X4 B60.  Its goes through the whole posting until it get to initializing the sata drives.  It will sit on that screen for a few minutes and then say that no drives are found so it cant boot.  If i do the same thing with the harddrive unplugged, it immediately says it can't find any drives.  I have tried changing the Raid setting to IDE with similar results.   I am running bios version 8.8  One thing I noticed that I thought was strange is that when I do the save after enabling CPU Unlock, the computer totally shuts off.  The power light turns off, all drives and fans turn off, then it turns it self back on and does the reboot.  It only does this with CPU Unlock enabled.

I believe that AMD is doing a more thorough job of disabling defective cores on those things and you will not be able to unlock. We've been seeing more and more of that recently on the 5xx series. If you want more cores then you will have to pay for them, looks like no longer a free ride for extra cores. Can't blame MSI for that.

  • MSI 785gtm-e45 usb not recognizing

HI all.  i just built this pc yesterday using this mobo MSI 785gtm-e45 with AMD phenom X4 2.5ghz along side with 2ghz of ram ddr2 800mhz and installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit . everything went well thru the installation of the os, cept  when i went to plug in my jump drive the lower right hand box said /!\ usb is not recognized. im using a ps/2 mouse and keyboard it connects thru the internet, i even downloaded drivers from the website and installed and still im getting that warning. any idea of wut could be the culprit

    >>If you are having problems with USB ports, read this topic.<<
I am having the same problems, but this is also affecting my onboard USB connections. I have disconnected the panel USB connections (they only had 8 wires anyway, so no need for the posted reply in that thread) from the mobo. I cannot even get the mobo to recognize a USB mouse plugged into a PS/2 adapter.

  • 785GTM-E45 - Will not boot

I purchased a bare bones system from Tiger Direct for a basic livingroom multimedia pc to basically run Boxee and we browsing.  The kit included: MSI 785GTM-E45 DiabloTek Barebones Kit - MSI 785GTM-E45 Motherboard, AMD Phenom X4 9750 CPU, CPU Fan, Patriot 2GB DDR2 RAM, Seagate 500GB HDD, DiabloTek Elite ATX-Mid Tower Case, 450W Power Supply (Here is a link to the system: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=500255&sku=B69-0367&SRCCODE=WEM2675N&cm_mmc=email-_-Main-_-WEM2675-_-tigeremail2675).
I have built several systems in the past and I have never had an issue before.  I received everything in the mail and assembled but the system would power up for about 3 seconds then turn off - essentially the cpu fan would turn on then off immediately.  After doing some troubleshooting it turned out to be a bad power supply.  TD shipped me a new case and I transferred everything over and it now turned on just fine and stayed on.... BUT it would never load the bios, etc.  I have cleared the cmos, reseated and double checked for extra mounting pins on the MB case, reseated the ram.. no fix.  I even followed the "flow chart" here: http://www.msi.com/service/cannot-boot-up-properly/
I have unplugged everything and put the motherboard on a nonconductive surface...same result.  Unplugged everything and unplugged the RAM hoping to get some system error beep.. NOTHING..ugh
The motherboard powers up, CPU fan turns on, the HDD spools up and runs but that is it.  No USB ports light up, the DVD drive does not come to life and there are no system beeps and the monitor never gets any input from the motherboard.  I am not running a seperate video card - just the onboard video.
What are some next steps for troubleshooting to get the system up and running?

Exactly!  No beep codes at all.  I unplugged everything including RAM to see if I could start troubleshooting component by component but with no beep codes.  I have been swapping out RAM/HDD/removing from the case and starting it up on a non-conductive surface, you name it...no boot and no beep...

Hi guys,I just bought a brand new MSI 785gtm-e45 and Phenom II 550 Black Edition,as well as a Crucial 2GB DDR2 5300,i hooked everything up,using onboard video, memory in slot 1 as manual says,450W p/s and all i get is a blinking blue light,i have also swapped out memory for a 1gb stick of pc5300,as well as put mine in another machine, and both sticks do work.
any ideas? i have went through hell getting this board considering i ordered it over a month ago.

  • MSI 785GTM-E45 BIOS CPU fan voltage control

    Hello MSI gurus,
I've replaced the MB in an older HP media center with the MSI 785GTM-E45 running BIOS V8.8 out of the box.
    CPU = Athlon 64 X2 4200+
My problem is the stock CPU fan has a 3 pin connection (voltage controlled) and is running at 100% speed all the time.  From what I've read on the forums there are a number of people that have this issue (with other MBs with 4 pin cpu fan headers) and don't want to switch to a 4 pin CPU fan (PWM controlled).  I am in the same situation.
I am hoping that there is a BIOS for this board that has an option to switch to or enable voltage control on the CPU fan header.
I have tried enabling the CPU smart fan target but no matter what settings I chose the fan remains at 100%.  The H/W monitor of the MB indicates a CPU temperature (33C) well below the target (tried all options from 40C to 60C in 5C increments).
I have tried MSI's dual core center and it had no effect on the fan speed.
I have tried the 3rd party freeware SpeedFan and if had no effect on the fan speed.
I am not able to check if I have the latest BIOS or even find changelogs for existing BIOS verions because MSI seems to only direct BIOS downloads for this product to the Live update application.  I have installed the live update program and it indicated V8.8 was the most recent veriosn of the BIOS for this board, although I have seen posts indicating the Live Update application is not to be trusted.
Dual core center, SpeedFan, and Live Update have all now been uninstalled.
I know the fan I'm using will change speed because I can connect a 3 pin fan controller and manually dial down the speed.
I know the BIOS can read the fan speed becase it correctly shows the RPM changes when I use the hardware fan controller.
Can anyone direct me to a BIOS version for this board (or some secret keystroke) that enables automated 3 pin voltage control on the CPU fan header?
Thanks in advance for your time.

For those who are interested I received the following answer from MSI technical support.  Personally I find this to be a flaw in this board's design.  I chose this MB to replace a dead MB in a HP media center for a friend.  If I was buying this board for myself I likely would be using it as a HTPC because of the mATX form factor, HDMI on board, and backward compatibility for CPUs.  However, due to the added cost of purchasing a new heat sink and fan I would be RMAing if I had bought it for myself.  Considering many of the top performing after market coolers still come with a 3 pin fan it was a poor decision for MSI to not include support for automatic speed control of a 3 pin voltage controlled fan.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
Thanks for contacting msi technical support team!
We are sorry that because of the circuit designs,we could not add cpu smart function for 3 pin's connector fan in the BIOS. The difference between 3pins and 4pins is that the second has a temperature controller but the first does not.We would suggest you utilize a 4-pin CPU Fan in order to control the CPU Fan speed.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused you!

  • 785GTM-E45

    Hello All,
    I have recently purchased a 785GTM-E45 and an Athlon II x4 640
    Athlon x4 640
    Crucial Ballistix 2x1G
    Antec Truepower 480 P/S
    My symptoms:
Motherboard POSTs however no keyboards are recognized, PS2 or USB, thus I cannot get update the BIOS.  I am assuming that I am running into this because the 640 is not on the supported list yet, is that correct?
I have already exchanged the board for a new one and still have the same issue.  I have also tried different (Kingston) as well as just single sticks of RAM.  I have not listed the other components of the system, DVDR or HD because they are not connected at this time.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Frederick,
Yes, I understand about the connecting PS2 devices while powered and how random it can be with them being recognized.  I am using the Antec PS at this time instead of a generic 400W (that came with the case for this new build).  I took the Antec out of a working system to rule out the power supply in the case.  However the issue exists with either PS.  I was trying to update the BIOS because it was out of date to see if that was the issue.
The weird part is that with NO hard drive connected I can boot up a Windows Setup DVD but am unable to move around in the initial menu because the keyboard doesn't work.
    Thanks for your help!

  • 785GTM-E45 MOBO BIOS V 8.80 RANDOMLY RESETS BOOT SEQUENCE

    785GTM-E45 MOBO W/ PHENOM 9750 QUAD CORE CPU/4 GB WINTEC DDR2 PC6400 (2 x 2 GB) / WINDOWS XP SP3
PROBLEM:  BIOS V 8.80 RANDOMLY RESETS BOOT SEQUENCE
I HAVE 4 HARD DRIVES (2 SATA II - 1 USB 2.0 1 USB 3.0) ALL OF WHICH HAVE MULTIPLE PARTITIONS WITH 1 ACTIVE ON EACH DRIVE
    SATA II DRIVES / DEVICES:
ON SATA 1: HITACHI 1TB SATA II DRIVE
ON SATA 2: MSI DVD-CW RW
ON SATA 3: MAXTOR 320GB SATA II DRIVE
    USB DRIVES:
    1. SEAGATE FREE AGENT EXTERNAL USB 2.0 1TB HD
    2. FANTOM EXTERNAL USB 3.0 2TB HD (VIA DIABLOTEK USB 3.0 PCI-E CARD)
EXPLANATION OF PROBLEM AND FIXES ATTEMPTED TO DATE
IN BIOS BOOT SEQUENCE I SELECT THE HITACHI HD AS 1ST DEVICE AND ALSO SET IT 2ND 3RD AND 4TH AND BOOT OTHER DEVICE DISABLED.  SAVE/EXIT BIOS AND WHEN SYSTEM REBOOTS IT RANDOMLY SELECTS ANY OF THE 4 DRIVES TO BOOT FROM. WHEN I ENTER BIOS AGAIN IT SHOWS WHATEVER DRIVE IT HAD SELECTED TO BOOT FROM AS 1ST, 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH DEVICE. ENABLING OR DISABLING BOOT FROM OTHER DEVICE MAKES NO DIFFERENCE.
ORIGINALLY MY HITACHI WAS ON SATA 3 AND THE MAXTOR ON SATA 1 - I SWITCHED THESE AND NO DIFFERENCE.  BIOS SWITCHES BOOT DEVICE NOT ONLY TO THE MAXTOR SATA DRIVE BUT ALSO TO THE USB DRIVES. USUALLY WHEN I REENTER BIOS AND CHANGE THE BOOT SEQUENCE BACK FROM WHATEVER HD IT SHOWS TO THE HITACHI IT WILL USUALLY THEN BOOT FROM THE HITACHI SOMETIMES THOUGH IT TAKES 2 OR 3 TRIES TO GET IT TO BOOT FROM THE DRIVE I HAVE SELECTED AS 1ST BOOT DEVICE.
I HAVE TESTED ALL DRIVES EXTENSIVELY USING ONTRACK EASY RECOVERY PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE AND ALL DRIVES SHOW NO PROBLEM.
MSI LIVE UPDATE 5 REPORTS THAT THE BIOS IS 8.80  HOWEVER IT ALSO SHOWS MY OS AS WINDOWS 2000 WHICH IS INCORRECT.  MY CURRENT OS IS WINDOWS XP SP3. MY XP INSTALLATION WAS AN UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 2000.
PROBLEM IS NOT DEVASTATING JUST ANNOYING IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A FIX I'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT.  IF THIS IS A BUG IN THIS VERSION OF THE MOBO BIOS I SURE HOPE THEY EXTERMINATE IT AND RELEASE AN UPDATED VERSION IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

How do you know it's randomly booting a different drive?
What are the messages you get?
    As this:
That looks like a broken drive to me, where it can't find the bootsector/mbr in time to boot from, so the BIOS moves to the next drive and tries again.
I built this box about 2 months ago or so and this is the version of BIOS that came with the MOBO.  I have not flashed the bios in this board.
As for knowing that it is randomly booting from a different drive as I stated each of my 4 drives has at a minimum 1 active partition.  The Hitachi has a dual boot setup in Windows and if it is booting from the Hitachi drive I will get the Window giving me a choice of booting from either the Hitachi or the Seagate.  If I select the Hitachi I also have it setup for two hardware profiles so it then gives me that screen to select profile 1 or 2.  If I get these screens no problem - I select the Hitachi and profile 1 and it boots without any further problem.
If it has switched lets say to the maxtor (remember I have selected the Hitachi as 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for boot sequence and the boot from other device is NO) I get no multi boot option it just automatically starts Windows from the active partition on the MAXTOR  (I can tell because the last time I used the Maxtor didn't shut down Windows properly so I get the option screen to boot normally or use safe mode etc).  The active partition on the Maxtor is a duplicate of the Hitachi but about 2 months old - basically a backup of the Hitachi active partition but out of date and without the multi boot option.
In addition if it has switched boot drives and I hit my reset button and del to open up bios again and go to the boot sequence menu it will no longer show my hitachi as all 4 choices but sometimes it will show all 4 drives in varying order (including the hitachi but not as first device), sometimes 1 drive in all 4  (as in the seagate or the maxtor or the fantom drive in all 4 of the boot sequences) this seems to occur randomly and each time the list of boot sequence is different.
Keeping in mind that I had initially selected the Hitachi drive in all 4 of the boot sequences and selected NO to boot from other device - If the Hitachi drive was not ready or had a bad bootsector/mbr should I not get a message similar to "cannot boot from selected device so and so is missing etc??  I was under the impression that when one disabled the boot from other device as in NO then the bios should not attempt to go any further then attempting to boot from the selected device(s)????
As for the broken drive and bios moving to the next drive and trying again I could understand that 1.  If I had not supposedly disabled its ability to do that  2.  I could perhaps understand this going to the next drive if I had selected the Seagate USB drive as my initial drive because of it's so called sleep mode which I have now turned off as it was causing errors in windows.  In addition I have run numerous and rigorous tests on the drives and they all passed with flying colors.
Yesterday after a couple of tries I booted from the Hitachi drive (it was listed as 1,2,3,and 4 in bios and the boot from other device was NO) and was using that all day and was on it when I posted my help request here.  Shortly thereafter I properly shut down my computer.  Now I would think that when I turned it on again this morning the BIOS would have maintained its previous settings of the Hitachi in all 4 of the boot sequences and the No on enabling it to boot from other device?  However when I booted up again this morning it tried to boot from the Maxtor (I can tell because I get the option screen to boot normally or use safe mode etc) so I hit the reset button and then entered bios and boot sequence and now it showed the Seagate as 1 (it had just tried to boot from the Maxtor when I hit the reset button), the Fantom as 2, the Maxtor as 3 and the Hitachi as 4 and boot from other device still said NO - changed them once again to show the Hitachi in all 4 positions and exited bios and it did then boot from the Hitachi and here I am writing this message using Windows XP located in the active partition of my Hitachi drive.
I'm not exactly a novice as my computer experience goes all the way back to mainframe days of the IBM 360 series computers.  I have built so many boxes I have lost count including numerous one using MSI mobos and I have never encountered a problem similar to this.  As I said it is not devastating just annoying - the only thing I can think of to totally eliminate the possibility of it being the mbr/bootsector of the Hitachi drive is to back up the drive and rewrite those sectors even though no errors have been reported.
I could be wrong but after messing with this for sometime it really seems to be a bios bug or perhaps just my bios is defective - I was able to dl a copy of v8.8 from another post in the forums - and have not used it yet.  Sent all of this info in a Tech support request and posted it here to see if there were any solutions I may have overlooked before flashing the bios with a dl copy of the same version I have installed.
As for downloading the current v of bios from the forums here it was apparently the only way I could get a copy as Liveupdate 5  shows that I have the current version installed and only gives me a message that my mobo bios is current and no download is needed or something like that and the MSI site no longer gives one the ability to download the mobo bios without using liveupdate 5 or at least I couldn't find one.  Guess they got tired of people killing their boards with bad flashes.

AMD 7850 AM2+ 4 gigs ocz memory.  When I set ram to epp mode for 1066 set to 2.2v the bios post but windows will not load. I tried manually setting the memory timing but same problem.  I messed around with multipliers and fsb and was able to get the system memory running stable at 1000mhz but 1066 would be nice.  is there a list of supported memory that works with this board.  I've noticed that no bios updates are available yet.  I've also contacted ocz about this issue.
    Thanks

  • 785GTM-E45 - Half of Memory Being Recognized

    MSI 785GTM-E45
    AMD Phenom II 840
    4GB RAM Kingston HyperX DDR2
Basically my sticks of ram are only being recognized as 1GB sticks instead of 2 GB sticks.
    - I have Windows 64 Bit
    - This is occuring inside the BioS this is not a software issue
    - Both sticks are 100% working condition, I have tested them in other machines
    - BioS is updated at version 8.8 I believe (12-2010 version)
    - I have checked and unchecked all options within the BioS I feel safe trying
    - This occurs with 1 stick, or 2 sticks in the slots (I only have 2 slots) they both recognized as 1GB each.
    - I have made sure my RAM is indeed 2GB sticks
    - I have reseated my RAM multiple times
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Even a arrow to a sticky post.
    Thank you.

maybe your cpu is damaged? have you tried with another one?
or with different memory sticks eventually?

  • 785GTM-E45 Shutdown / Power on problems

Hello MSI forums, I recently purchased a 785gtm-e45 along with a Phenom X2 555 BE and I ran into a strange problem. When I first put the computer together it would not power on. I had to turn the power supply switch off for at least 10 seconds then flip it back on and power on. If I shutdown from windows, or hit power while it's booting up, the same problem occurs, it doesn't want to power back on without flipping the switch off.
I also doubt it's my power supply , seasonic 430watt, because my last system was an intel e2180 oc'd to 2.8ghz, ati 4830, now it's just the 555be no video card.
Also, has anyone been able to overclock with this board? I got my my 555 BE from 3.2 to 3.8ghz and crashed after prime95 for 3 hours, thinking it's my ram.

My apologies for the first crappy post, here are the full specs.
    CPU : AMD Phenom X2 555 BE @ 3.20 GHz
    MB: MSI 785GTM-E45  - Bios Version 8.3
    RAM: 2 x 2GB G. Skill F2-64000CL5D-4GPBQ    PC2-6400    CL5-5-5-15     1.8V - 1.9V
    HDD: Intel X25-V 40GB and Seagate 7200.11 1TB
    GPU: Sapphire Radeon 4830 512mb
    PSU: SILVERSTONE ZEUS ST65ZF 650W 12V - 55 amps
    OS: Windows 7 32 Bit
    Also runs 2 x 120mm fans.
I put in the Silverstone power supply and I am still running into the same problems as the Seasonic power supply which has less amps and wattage. If I restart my computer it is fine, but if I hit shutdown then try powering it on, it does not work.
I have to turn the power switch on the PSU off for about 10 seconds before flipping it back on and powering up.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • MSI 785GTM-E45 Bios Startup Random Freezes Help?

    Hi all,
I hope I am posting this in the right forum, because it is a bios startup problem. I have been searching the forums from here and other places extensively for the past few days as well as trying pinpoint the problem on my own computer. My problem is every now and then when I boot up, it takes a really long time to get past or freezes at "initializing usb controllers" or it just freezes on "hypertransport flood sync." Some people say its the cpu, motherboard, ram, etc... So I have just been testing to see which component is causing the problem.
I recently purchased parts to build a new computer from frys. The parts are:
    1. MSI 785GTM-E45
    2. AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE
    3. Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PDC24G6400ELK
    4. Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D Green 430W power supply
    5. PNY Geforce 240 GT
    6. 80 gb pata WD harddrive and NEC pata dvd-rw.
At first I thought it might've been that I was unlocking the cores and they were unstable, turns out the 4th core is unstable. However, I still get the weird freezes at initializing usb controllers and hypertransport flood sync even when I am running the stock 2 cores. Plus I purchased another AMD 555 to test it out, and its the same. Then I turned my attention to the ram, I ran memtest86+ on it and the ram appears to be good. And I don't think it is the power supply either, I can't really test it cuz I only have one. It can't be the video card because I was having this problem before I even installed the video card (I was using onboard waiting for something to go on sale). I am beginning to suspect that it's just a bad motherboard. I have even tried updating the bios to 8.5, I can now support X6, but it still doing the weird random freezes.
Was wondering if others had any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

For your current system as is that PSU will be OK. If you think you will be upgrading video to something beyond a 250GTS & x4 CPU then I would recommend the TX650W instead. newegg usually has the best prices for the Corsairs and only online store I buy from in the past couple of years.
If you look at the specs at newegg you will see where it says how many rails it has. Also n'egg usually has picture of the PSU label and you can see there, it will show for example 2 rail: +12V1@18, +12V2@18, note the number after +12V. A single rail will have 1, for example the Corsair in your link +12V@30A
