790FX-GD70 not POSTing no debug code all LEDs on

Hi
I have had my 790FX-GD70 for almost the past 2 years and it has given me no real problems. But yesterday whilst playing Fallen Earth, my computer froze so I gave it a restart and it froze during windows start up. At this point I opened my case and watched the debug display and this time it froze during post, can't remember the debug code it froze on. I tried restarting a few more time and it would freezes at different points during post. At this point I remove it from its case and start barebones testing it. If I left it for a time I could get into the bios and go to the hardware monitoring page and look a the tempter of the CPU for it froze. There it reported that the tempter was 34C. Stopped testing it last night and when I turned it one this morning it would not even start to post. When I turn it on all the LEDs on the board turn on even the overclocking LED and the overclocking switch also turns and to turn off the system I have to do a hard switch off and UPS.
I have tried it with a different UPS with no effect, tried a different graphics card with no effect. Also tried with different RAM and no RAM no effect.
Computer  secs:
MB: MSi 790FX-GD70
CPU: AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 Black Edition
UPS: Antec TRUEPOWER Quattro 850 watt
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4Gig DDR3 can not remember the speed.
GPU: MSI AMD Radeon R6950 twin Frozr 2
CPU Heat Sink: Cooler Mater Hyper N520
Any help would be great.

try with another video card then
Also done that to no effect, currently I don't have a spare CPU that will work on my motherboard. I was hoping that some one has had this problem before because I have never seen my computer start up with all the LEDs on as it starts up. Also the hard drive LED is on constantly even when there is no hard drive plug in.

  • 790FX-GD70 not setting RAM to correct timing nor voltage from SPED

My 790FX-GD70 not setting RAM to correct timing nor voltage from SPED when set to auto. The RAM I have should be 6 6 6 20 @ 1.8V but the motherboard is setting it to 9 9 9 24 @ 1.5 V
    The RAM is   Crucial 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory BL25664BA1336 • DDR3 PC3-10600 • 6-6-6-20 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 of which i have two of then in the two black slots.
Just to rule out the RAM I also tried a different model of RAM whose timing is 7 7 7 24 @ 1.65 which will not allow to boot to windows unless I adjust the voltage manually to 1.70 (1.65 V will still not boot properly)  it sets it also at 9 9 9 24 yet this same sticks of RAM will set correctly in a MSI 770 C45 without any adjustments.
Now i will say in the case of the 790FX-GD70 I require no changes  in voltage for it to boot with the 1.8 V RAM just the timings are not as they should be. The 790FX-GD70 is stable as is and I will probably leave it at the auto settings  but wondered if anyone else  encountered similar issues with this board

Looks like this is a bit of an issue for some other users of your RAM and not necessarily a MSI thing! This user has a ASUS board! Good luck and hope you get it sorted out.
    Backround:
I bought some DDR3-1333 ram that was advertised as 6-6-6-20 @ 1.8v and, as expected, running on my board's default 1.5v it was only getting like 9-9-9-24. In fact, @ stock voltage the best I could boot up with (unknown stability) was 9-7-7. In an attempt to get the best (advertised?) performance I went ahead and manually set the timings to 6-6-6-20, left all other timings on auto, and upped the voltage to 1.8v
Boots up fine and appears to be stable. However, I do notice the RAM is fairly warm to the touch whereas @ 1.5v it was pretty benign heat-wise. I tried running 1.785v but 3 out of 4 times it would hang on the windows desktop display. So I bumped it back up to 1.8v and I'll run Memtest 86 or something else later tonight.
My question, being a noob and all...
Is running at 1.8v going to hurt something? (See my setup MB, and CPU stats)
Just to repeat, the box and manufacturer do list it as 1.8v spec. (FYI: BL25664BA1336)

  • 790FX-GD70 not Booting, FF code

Hello, new to the forum... I signed up on here because I am having a rather difficult time with my MSI motherboard; I haven't been able to find any help elsewhere. I put together a machine using the MSI 790FX-GD70 socket AM3 board (not winki ed.) and a Phenom-II X6, the 1090T. Here is the full configuration:
    AMD Phenom-II X6 - 1090T @ 3.2Ghz
    MSI 790FX-GD70, latest BIOS
    2x4GB (8GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 RAM
ATI FirePro V5700 512MB (2x) *these do not require aux power
    500w Corsair CX500 power supply 80+ cert.
    500GB HDD, 7200rpm
    DVD burner
This setup was working fine when I first assembled it around a month ago, but since the motherboard has been giving me the "FF" code and will not POST. The only way I can get the board to POST and boot the OS is to clear the CMOS and strike F2 to load defaults. I am able to enter and access the BIOS (and update it) but if I change or save any settings the motherboard will not POST and will display FF code again. If I clear the CMOS and strike F2 the board will POST, boot Windows, and work just fine without crashing--but if I restart the computer or shut it down properly the same thing occurs and I must clear CMOS again in order for it to work. This is very frustrating...
At this point I have switched CMOS batteries, tried a different PSU, taken one of the graphics cards out, and used only a single stick of RAM. I have also tried a different 1333mhz module and flashed the BIOS to the latest version without error. Nothing has fixed the problem and I am getting the hint that the board could be toast. When I power on the board, the FF code displays, the HDD LED flashes once, and then the FF code quickly returns and it hangs with no video to the monitor. All of the board's other LEDs are ON but nothing happens until the CMOS is cleared. This is very bizarre to me and I've never had a board that just stopped working. I am not trying to OC anything (dial is disabled and OFF) and all of the other hardware tests good. The computer has worked perfectly fine before so I can't guess as to why it has suddenly become problematic. It still works, but only after clearing CMOS and using F2.
I would greatly appreciate any help with this as I am out of ideas... thanks in advance for any support.

I think you are of the mistaken impression that we are MSI.  This is a user to user forum and run by users like you--not MSI employees.  We are all volunteers including the Mods and the Admin.  None are paid or work for MSI.  There are a few MSI employees that come in here but they do not read the forums very often and post even more rarely.  M-Flash and Live Update are official MSI products.  The MSI HQ Forum Flasher is a product of these forums, specifically Svet and tested by the other Mods--the USB Forum Flasher is not part of MSI.  The flasher though only supports MSI products and was designed as such.  The issue with LU and M-flash is, one, LU flashes within the Windows environment and that is a very dangerous practice, and two, M-flash has the ability to flash your BIOS with any file---you could well end up with your BIOS flashed with a document or Mp3 file.  Originally, the forum flasher was developed as a very safe means of flashing the BIOS and to avoid the issues using LU.  It is also far safer than using M-Flash as the forum flasher has many checks and safety measures built in.

  • 890FXA-GD70-Not Posting and Memory Issues

Purchased new 890FXA-GD70 board over the weekend and I am having problems after new build. Board will not post with 2 stick of Corsair DDR3 4GB PC1600 in slots 1 and 2. I removed one stick in slot 2 and board posted. I installed all drivers and Win 7 pro and added the second stick into slot 2 and will not post again. I moved the 2GB stick to slot 3 and the computer boots and seems to run fine. Should'nt DDR3 be run in slots 1 and 2?
    System
    CPU-AMD Phenom II x4 945
    Motherboard-890FXA-GD70
    Memory-Corsair DDR3 4GB 2 sticks at 2GB each PC1600 Dual
    Video Card-EVGA GTS250 512MB
Hard Drives-Western Digital Black Edition  500Gb
    OS-Windows 7 Professional
    Power Supply-Corsair 750

After checking the boards and google search, it appears that several other people are having the same issue. If the memory sticks are placed in dimm1 and dimm3 the board seems to post and runs fine. But that will not produce dual channel memory. Should I change memory to another brand? What is the best memory for this board. The computer has been running all day and seems to be stable but, just worried that memory is still incorrect and only have 10 days to return to Frys. I have also flashed the bios to 1.6! It appears that after reading several other post on this forum, they had to return the board, could I have a bad board?

  • MSI Big Bang Xpower II did not post - Debug LED Code #67

    I need HELP...!
I have a problem my board did not post , did not start and i have the DEBUG LED CODE # 67 displayed.
    There is my build
MSI Big Bang Xpower II X79 LGA2011
    Intel Core i7 3820 LGA2011 Processor
Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100 CPU Cooler System LGA2011
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series memory (F3-12800CL-32GBZL) DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 - CL10-10-10-30 (8192MB X 4) - 32GIG located in DIMM 1-3-5-7
Gigabyte GTX570 OC Edition video card in slot PCI-E2
    Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s 10,000 RPM
    LG BH12LS35 Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X
    Ultra LSP-750 Power Supply
Cooler Master HAF X EATX Tower Case
When I put the power on, the power supply activated fans and drives spin, all the LEDs on the motherboard light up but nothing appears on the screen.
No video signal at all and the computer stop and restrart every 15 seconds. When these reset occurs there is no beep on the speaker , nothing at all, no flashing screen either, nothing.
The DEBUG LED display a sequence of flashing numbers 19 - 60 - 19- 60 - 67 and stop showing still the number # 67 for about ten seconds and then he reset again.
I carefully followed the instruction manual for the installation, I installed the memory modules in slots 1 3 5 7, i put my video card in slot PCI-E2. all the power wire are connected correctly 1 x 24 pins ATX, 2 x 8 pins ATX, 1 X 6 pins , all the wire from the front panel are correctly connected to the m-connector in JFP1 & 2.
Did i forget something, I don’t know what the debug led code # 67 exactly mean and what i have to do to fix-it
Someone has an idea what is wrong or have any suggestion to solve this issue.
     Thank's all for your help.

I followed some advice to remove the memory modules and this is actually caused by the use of memory but you will see I still have a curious bug.
I referred to the instructions manual to the letter for the choice of DIMM SLOT to put the memory module in single, double, triple and quad channels.
If I install 1 memory module in the DIMM SLOT  1 to operate in single channel, everything is normal and the motherboard  POST normally and show  the SETUP SCREEN.
If I install 2 memory modules in  DIMM SLOT  1 & 3 to run in dual channel, everything is normal and the motherboard  POST normally and show  the SETUP SCREEN.
If I install three memory modules in DIMM SLOT 1 - 3 - 5 to run in triple channel, everything is normal and the motherboard POST normally and show  the SETUP SCREEN.
As soon as I install four DIMMs modules mémoiredans SLOT 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 to run in quad channel, the motherboard  freezes and does NOT POST and show  code 67 on the debug led and has reset itself every 20 seconds.
I tried all my RAM modules alternately in both single channel and everything works normally.
I did the same thing in rotation for both dual and triple channel and everything is still normal with all fourth memory modules individually.
As soon as I put a fourth memory module it freezes and displays the code 67 or L9 dependent side as you look.
So my bug is my motherboard MSI Big Bang Xpower II do  not want  to work in quad channel.
Do you have any idea where I should look for, is a setting in the BIOS  , I have flashed the bios to the latest version V1.5
I included the screenshot of the BIOS to see if you can  notice something wrong.
    Thank you

    Hello
We have a problem with one of the AE Processes in Prod running to Success but 'Not Posted' (DISTSTATUS = '4'). All the other processes run fine with no issues. It was observerd recently by the User and was reported to us. Can you please suggest/help regarding this issue?
Details: AE has a recurrence set to run every week @ 1:00AM.
    My work:
    1) I deleted 2 rows (very old entries) in PS_CDM_LIST table that has a Dist Status of '1' Just to make sure that the tables PS_CDM_LIST, PSPRCSRQST & PSPRCSQUE are in Sync.
    2) Altered the Prcs Defn but i did not boucne due to the unavailability of downtime.
Just to let you know i am think if a bounce of Prcs srv will help (or) If not do i need to delete and create a new recurrence??
Please Comment. Any ideas are appreaciated.
    Thanks

I altered the Prcs Defn and Log level to '5' then Re-configured all the Process Schedulers by clearing the cache. Once i restarted and reposted the content Process went to 'Not Posted' again. Additional Info i see now in the logs is...

  • 790FX-GD70 - FREEZES ON POST CODE "08"

    Hi
I have just made a new build on a new 790FX-GD70 winki board - on initial start up it's freezing on the POST code "08". Nothing is showing up on the screen at all. Apprently this means:
    08
Initializes the CPU. The BAT test is being done on KBC. Program the keyboard controller command byte is being done after Auto detection of KB/MS using AMI KB-5.
    (according to http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMIBIOS8_Checkpoint_and_Beep_Code_List_PUB.pdf)
The trouble is i just don't know what that means I should do - without anything on screen to go by!

  • 790FX-GD70 won't POST - 3 beeps & diagnostic LED "2e"

    Hi,
After a second or two of rapidly displaying various hex values, the POST_LED stops at "2e" (not documented in manual; can't find on MSI support site) and the system issues 3 beeps  (1 long and 2 short, also not documented in manual or online for AMI BIOS, which I assume from pictures in manual is what this mobo has on it).
    My configuration is as follows:
    Motherboard: 790FX-GD70 (model MS-7577)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Socket AM3
    Memory: 2x (8GB total) OCZ 4GB KIT (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz PC3 12800 REAPER SERIES DUAL CHANNEL KIT (7-7-7-24)

Obviously the CPU is good since I'm getting *some* POST activity and beeps, but I'm afraid I don't have any other video cards, memory, or PSU I can swap out to compare against. The previous poster (linked below) said he had swapped out many components and still had the same problem, though.
Any ideas, anyone? I'd be happy to further diagnose the problem myself if someone could point me towards a complete list of diagnostic LED values and meanings, and BIOS beep codes and meanings.
    Cheers,

    yannifb,
Please keep discussion of your own problem in your own topic, do not hijack others'!
In order to find out the real cause, it is generally a good method to make comparisons with partially different configurations, as yannifb did. Therefore, I see his post as a useful contribution rather than hijacking, and I hope I am allowed to say so in this forum, even to a Global Administrator. Bootup failure with the 790FX-GD70 with various graphic cards and PSUs (which might very well have a COMMON cause) is now being discussed in different threads, which makes it more difficult to follow the discussion and to compare and analyse the phenomena.
My own PSU is a Corsair HX1000W, which is undoubtedly strong enough and even recommended expressly by AMD for the Radeon 4890. Nevertheless, bootup fails with the configuration given in my signature. (I hope I'm not guilty of another "hijacking" attempt. I believe we need some consolidation on this whole subject.)

  • New Build, Won't POST, Debug code stays at 00

I just got done building a new MPOWER MAX with an I5-4670K.  The build is a new power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM.  Video card I was using was in an old system and worked fine.  24 pin power, and the 2x 8 pin power supplies are all hooked up.
I have torn the PC back apart to where it's now just Motherboard, and CPU.  No RAM, no Video card, no HDD's, no DVD drive.  The system will not POST, and the Debug code never changes from 00.  I have even pulled off all the front panel Power/LED/Speaker connectors.
I have also tried switching the BIOS toggle switch, and cleared BIOS from the back panel.  I don't know where to go with this since it won't even give me a code of any kind.

  • New rig 990fxa-gd80v2 wont post debug code 19

I am building a new rig for my gf's brother and i can not get my new mobo to post. I am getting debug code 19. I couldn't find a lot of info on what the code means but from what I have seen its apparently a problem with the BIOS not being updated for my new CPU. I have tried all of my current working components from my rig on the board as well and it still showed code 19. Here are the specs on the rig.
    MOBO 990fxa-gd80v2
    CPU AMD FX-8320
    PSU 500W RAIDMAX
GPU EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB
    RAM G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Like I said however I took apart my rig completely and switch all my known working parts onto the new MOBO and got the same error code. So I am not sure if the issue is really an outdated BIOS because it wouldnt post with my AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok so it has been a few days since I last posted because I have been busy but I just finally had time to work on it. I essentially took out my mobo and replaced it with the new one that had been posting code 19. Using all my known working components from my computer including my PCU I am still recieving the same error code, even after moving my known working RAM into each different slot.I'm getting quite desperate here now and just am plain lost in trying to understand what seems to be the issue. I'd be very grateful for anyadditional information/tips here. Thanks.

  • 790FX-GD70 Won't Post

I bought the 790FX-GD70 in January and I'm just now finishing the build (don't ask).
I waited to buy the CPU until last, so I got the X6 1090T. The current BIOS is 7577 1.0 and I have every intention of updating it to 1.C as soon as I can get to the BIOS, but no luck there. I have it bare bones right now and out of the case. Parts list:
790FX-GD70 BIOS ver 1.0 (I know, I need to update ASAP)
    Phenom II X6 1090T
    Corsair H50 CPU Cooler
Corsair Dominator 2GB DDR3 1033MHz (in first slot closest to CPU. The box says AMD Phenom II right on it. Grrr...)
    Corsair 850HX Power Supply
It's right here in front of me out of the case, lying on my desk.
The problem is, it won't post. This is what I get:
FF,d1,d2,d3,d5,d6,08, then it resets, FF,d1,d2,d3,d5,d6,08, reset, etc. etc.
All the CPU phase LEDs light, memory LEDs light, and the hard drive LED lights right before the board resets.
Any help would be awesome. I'm lost. Thanks.

    what vga you have?
have you tried to boot with barabone setup and mainboard out of the pc case?
    tried >>Clear CMOS Guide<< too?
power cable for the cpu is connected?

Hello, I've read a few threads on the 790FX-GD70 and FF led read outs.  I've included direct links to newegg.com for closer inspection:
    Mobo:  MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black  125W
    Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
    Video: SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X 100269VXL Radeon HD 4890
    PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2
    HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB
The state of the board is FF and the status lights are as follows:
    Sys Phase: 2/2
    CPU_Phase: 1/5
    DDR: 2/2
    MB Status: FF
So far, I have tried with one stick of memory DIMM 1 only and with no memory as well.  I have re set the processor once with the same results.  I have tried with a seperate GeForce 7300 video card I have that I am sure works just fine.  The LED's and fans are all powered correctly.  I have carefully checked each power cord to make sure that it's not a user error.  I had a good and experienced friend with me to make sure I didn't skip any basic steps.  I am in the progress of opening a ticket with MSI technical support and I plan on purchasing an Corsair DDR3 stick to test with.  I have a bad feeling that it could be the processor but I wanted an expert opinion.  Thanks in advanced & Merry Christmas.

Just to confirm: you are not getting ANY CPU phase lights when you power-up? Note that there are 4 CPU phase-lights. The top one is the NB phase light. If you are getting none, then look at your CPU and/or PSU CPU connector. Not sure why RAM should affect this at all.
Well, there are 5 LED's total, so that was my bad.  I meant the first bracket (CPU phase 1) is lighting up.  It does not make it past that stage.  The 3 other lights are not powered on.  I have had the optical drive disconnected this whole time but found that when it was connected, it did not open.  For now, I'll just leave it disconnected... Anyways, I wasn't sure how RAM would affect this, but it was worth a shot.
