7912 Phones and Ringlist.xml

I'm trying to add a custom ring to a 7912. I know the procedure (i.e. encode the file properly, put it up in the TFTPPath directory, modify the RingList.XML file), restart the TFTP server, reboot the phone -- really quite ridiculous to have to do all of this to add a simple ring). It works fine on a 7940 and a 7911, but no go on a 7912.
OK Cisco, what's the joke? Why can't you get consistent on how this works. You have so many models of phones, each of which have a seemingly different way of working (some have java, some don't, some download code each time, some don't).
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Haven't tried going to factory defaults yet. However, a person really shouldn't have to go to these measures. It should work as advertised. I'd really rather not factory reset 300+ phones every time I want to add a ring.
They don't see the ring in the list at all.
They're remote from me, so I'm not sure what their status messages say.

    those models do not provide the background options, at most you can set the idle URL
    79X1 and up have that capability, 7970 also

  • UCCX Call Recording on 7912 phone

    Hello All,
    Does anybody know if you are able to do UCCX call recording on a 7912 phone? I do not see the option within the 7912 device configuration page to span the port to the PC even though the 7912's do have two ethernet ports on them and daisy chain the PC onto the network. The firmware for the 7912's is 8.0 (3). The latest and greatest firmware is 8.0(4) so i do not beleive it to be related to that - I am thinking unfortunately that they 7912's cannot perform call recording and will need to be replaced.

    Correct, the 7912 does not support Built in Bridge.  You would need to use Desktop Recording or SPAN.  Or switch to something like the 7911.

  • Paging simultaneously to IP phones and legacy overhead

    I just wanted to share something with the community as it is something I have seen a number of posts on and somethign we struggled with as a company before stumbling on this ingenious solution.  I can't take credit for this, we found it online (Also sorry if this is a repost)
    There is a simple, if somewhat kludgy way to do this.  Any time we have a customer who needs to page both to an overhead and the phone simultaneously what we do is purchase a very basic model IP phone such as a 7912.
    You then open that phone up and attach a single pair from a Cat5 cable to the leads for the phones speakerphone.  Drill a small hole for your cable to come out of the phone and attach the other end of the pair to your overhead paging system.  In this way, users need only dial the DN for the IP to IP phone paging and it will broadcast over both the phones and the overhead simultaneously without any sort of complicated additional configuration.
    This is handy as a number of people I see on these forums aren't terribly familiar with the command line and this method requires no configuration that can not be done with CCA.
    I hope this helps you guys, I know it's certainly been a great time saver for us when installing CME and UC500 systems!

    I've never run into any sound quality issues.  The overhead pages all sound fine.  Additionally I've not had to make any impedence changes.  Really the only thing I've ever had to change were just the output levels on the overhead system to raise or lower the volume but this trick has really been a boon to us for situations exactly like you describe.  Customers want the transition to be seemless and if anything works differently it becomes a deal breaker.  I can't believe Cisco hasn't come up with an official way to universally page but this should do the trick for you.
    Unfortunately I've not done any of the actual physical work to hook the cable up to the internal speakers, someone else in my company has always done this.  I know we're not the first to do this as we got the idea from someone else online so there may be a video up on youtube.
    An additional caveat I would have you be aware of is that if they want ring out over the overhead, you're going to need to use a phone with multiple buttons (unlike the 7912s we typically use).  So its a matter of balancing needs of customers against cost.

  • Further Disabling a 7912 phone

    I am trying to figure out a way to lock down a 7912 phone, so that basically all you can do is dial 4 digit internal numbers, and answer calls.
    Now I know that seems straight forward with COR, but I mean, that's ALL I want allowed.
    So, no call forwarding, no tranfers, no setting changes, no rebooting the phone, etc...
    I made an ephone template that removed all softkeys, except for new call and end call. However, the messages softkey is still there, not that big of a deal. a COR on the voicemail dial peer takes care of them accessing that feature.
    So that leaves the services button. I tried service phone <blah> but nothing changed. And from what I read it only applies to 7970 phones.
    So, do I have this phone locked down as far as I can get it, or is there something else I can do?

    I looked into this a little more but can't test as we don't have cme set up in the lab. Can you try this via the ephone template method listed below.The example shows how to disable the pc port but I think you could use the settingsAccess enable/disable as well;
    settingsAccess {0 | 1}
    Enables and disables the IP phone's Settings button.The default is that the Settings button is enabled.
    0 Disabled.
    1 Enabled.
    The following example shows how to disable the PC port on an individual IP phone (ephone 15) using an ephone template:

  • HT1688 I have a damaged I-Phone and I need the contents of my calendar off of it. I did not have Mobile me at the time.  Can I swap out the sim card from the broken phone to a new phone and recover this calendar?

    I have an older I-Phone (3G) that for some reason the body of the phone has split in two.  This phone was a business phone and it had a lot of important information on it. I have a second phone that is also a 3G.  On the broken phone there is a lot of important information that I need in my calendar. Im not worried about anything else but the calendar.  I didn't have the Mobile Me account at that time or I would be having this problem. Does anybody know if I can ust switch out the sim cards. I just need to recover the old calendar, so im hoping that the calendar will transfer when I switch the sim card into the good 3G. If that doesn't work does anybody know of anyway that I can retrieve this information off of this phone?

    Nothing is stored on the sim card on an iPhone.  If you backed up to your computer the backup will contain your calendar events.  Otherwise, if your phone isn't functioning there is no way to back up or extract your calendar at this point.

    This is my first time using this forum, and I apologize if my post isn't "normal" or if my question is too long. My old acer computer had become corrupted and I had to reinstall my copy of windows. When I tried to sync a new ringtone to my iphone, which was only ever synced to this same computer, I was prompted to delete everything I had so I could install one ringtone. That does not sound ideal, and I refuse to delete everything I've put on my phone and my data to sync to itunes. There has to be another way to show my phone that this is the same computer. So I do not have to go through the hassle of doing everything again. I could not find an answer in the forums, and hope you can help me. This is pretty close to being a deal breaker for me. I'm beyond frustrated with this policy.
    I don't believe it matters, but I'm running the latest version of itunes, as of today, and I have an iPhone 4 CDMA iOS 7.4.

I have a few games with quite a few hours invested, and I worry that I'll lose the progress I have as they do not save to the cloud. I may have to bite the bullet, and just take the plunge to resolve this. I just want a way to easily transfer my "Home Computer" for my iPhone. My laptop is years old and in need of being replaced, and it's about time to upgrade my phone. These life events piling up are making me consider switching to a friendlier OS. I'm not using this as a threat. I just hope some apple high up will read this, and realize that we need alternatives. Life happens.

Using the guide provided has done both. It has helped me and given me a fix to my current problem. Lawrence has also provided me with the last bit of information I feel is missing from wjosten's guide. That syncing will completely erase all of your data and reinstall it in one fell swoop. It's a great fix. Even if it isn't the exact one I wanted. Thank you again!

    Your content will only be where you put it.  It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
    You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone: File>Device>Transfer purchases.
    You can import your pics taken with the iphone as you would with any digital camera.
    You can e-mail the other pics to yourself, they will never be of the original quality.
    You can out a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer.  You should get the option to merge the data when you sync.

    Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
    I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
    I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
    I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
    Please can anybody help.

    Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
    Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
    See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
    Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.

  • Can't delete music on phone and the songs don't show up in iTunes

    I've had this problem before and found no solution, so this time I'm going to ask and see if someone else has the same issue. It's not any of the usual problems, so I ended up restoring my phone to an earlier point and it worked, but I don't want to have to do it again.
    Okay so the problem I have is there is music in my music app on my phone that doesn't show up in iTunes in the "on my device" section.  I listened to music on my phone that I had streamed from the cloud, when you do the "show all music" thing and can play all of your purchased songs.  Then when I turn off "show all music" there are random songs that I had streamed but didn't download.  I can't swipe left to delete them on my phone, and they don't show up in iTunes as even being on my phone.  I can't find a way to erase them.  I think they are stored in the "other" section of phone storage because now "other" is larger than it was.
    The last time this happened I had to restore my iPhone to a point before this problem occurred and I lost my messages and new contacts and what not.  I have a feeling this is not a user fixable problem, but a problem on apple's end.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
