7921 stuck to configuring IP

Hi guys,
I have 7921s with firmware 1.1.1, connecting to 1000 series LAP and 4402 controller running 4.2.99.
DHCP server is behind the controller on a 3560.
Call manager is 5.1.
When I configure my WLAN for 802.1X (I am using EAP-FAST), my authentication is successful.
As soon as I add WAP or WPA2 encryption, my phone is stuck to configuring IP (so authentication is successful).
I am obviously missing something obvious, but what? Any clue?
Thanks
Jerome

It might be useful to others, I found out what was wrong in my case... WMM.
My config is a 4402 controller running 4.1.191-24M, behind which an ACS 4.2 is running, 7921 phones run 1.1.1.
When an SSID is configured for 802.1X (tried LEAP, EAP-FAST and PEAP with the same result), the WLAN can have most of the QOS profiles, and WMM can be allowed or not.
When moving on to WPA-WPA2, same authentication, the phone stays stuck on configuring IP or opening the CCM if using a static IP... until on the QOS tab, WMM is set to disabled. Immediately, everything works fine.
Weird, but good to know.
Thanks everyone for your help on this one

• 10.5.3 Update stuck at "Configuring Installation..."

I downloaded the update and then restarted my iMac only to find the installation progress bar to be stuck at a certain point. After 10 hours of leaving it at that, I forced shut down my iMac. Any ideas as to why the update won't work? Maybe I messed up with the OS files... but I doubt it.
-I recently re-installed Leopard... if that's a problem.

Thanks everyone with your tips I was able to overcome this issue.
For those of you who may be found in the same predicament, you can resolve this by going into the HD > Library > Updates and move all the files and folders to your desktop. In each of the folders there is a folder called Packages, launch the file with the .pkg suffix. This is the actual installer. Do this until you find the culprit installer that is causing problems (you'll recognize it because it will get stuck at 'Configuring Installation'). After you have successfully applied all the good updates. Throw everything away (including the plist file) and restart. Launch Software Update and it should redownload the package that was damaged and all other updates.
Hope this helps.

• HT3606 i keep trying to update the software and it gets stuck on configuration, so i can i sped up the process?

i keep trying to update the software and it gets stuck on configuration, so i can i sped up the process?

Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• Upgrading to R2 stuck on "Configuration Manager has detected an active MP Replica on this site."

Hello Everyone,
We are installing upgrading our SCCM 2012 server to R2 and we are stuck on;
"Configuration Manager has detected an active MP Replica on this site. Please deactivate this MP before continuing upgrade."
I have tried disabling SQL service on the MPs but that didn't work. So could anyone give me any help on the procedure on how to deactivate the MP as requested?
Thank you in advance for anyhelp.

From the beginning we didn't have Replicas at all!
We checked each DP and Secondary Site and they are already all disabled.
You should have mentioned that fact earlier ....
What did you check and what's disabled?

• Cisco TelePresence Content Server's server mode is stuck in "Configuration reload, Offline"

My Cisco TelePresence Content Server's server mode is stuck in "Configuration reload, Offline"
I can't dial in or dial out.
I tried to restart Content Service
And I tried to reload the server but I cannot resolve this problem.
Are there people having a idea to resolve it?
Thank you.

Hi,
You can check the content engine logs in E:/Logs to find what exact error you are seeing there. If it is indeed complaining about the checksum verification failing, you need to contact Cisco support to get it. You need to provide the serial number and the LAN 1 mac address in the support ticket.
You can verify the Windows registries to check if it contains the checksum or not. The location of the registry is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > TANDBERG > TCS.

• Can't upgrade to Safari 4 release - stuck at Configuring Installation

OK, so i've read all topics I could find on this subject (both on and off this forum), and have tried them all, but to no luck.
my 2 problems:
- Automatic (software update) Safari 4 release update gets stuck on configuring installation (and yes, I've deleted all "updates")
- Manual download of safari 4 update gets stuck on configuring installation as well
I used to have safari 4 beta on my computer.
I've tried to delete anything I could find related to safari of my computer in hopes it would pass the configuring stage.
All other updates/programs install fine.
anybody with the same problem who's found a solution ?

Hi
seems that the safari installed ALSO checked the receipts on the drive "G5". Since this was an old PowerMac G5 drive, it might have gotten the wrong idea.
You need to "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Applications>Utilities folder.
tried to re-install 10.5.7 combo update, but this stalled at "configuration installation" as well
The problem with Safari may be symptomatic of other problems on the Mac. A reinstall of the OS using Archive & Install may be the next logical step to resolve the issues cropping up here.
Hi starman
See step 1: I've done a repair permissions on all drives already.
I understand that re-installing OS will solve all this most likely, but since that's a 2-3 day process (with re-installing approx 100 apps, authorizations etc.) I rather find other means to fix this first.

• Server stuck at 'configuring network'

I have all the latest updates, running Mavericks 10.9.2 and Server. I'm trying to edit my host name settings - it detected 'Multiple Networks' asked me to pick which network the server should be based on, I selected ethernet, and after that it gets stuck on 'configuring network'.
Should I have opened some ports or something? Please do suggest how I can resolve this.

How are you editing your hostname settings?
The following are some guesses...
Typically, you'll want one network selected — with gigabit wired being fastest for most uses, assuming you also have gigabit switches — and WiFi disabled.
The following assumes a NAT'd network, as is typical.
The OS X Server must have a static IP address on your private networl.
You cannot reference any off-LAN DNS services.  Not successfully.  Your OS X Server must either be the DNS server for your network, or you'll need some other DNS server operating on your private network.   Again, you cannot reference ISP DNS services, nor can you reference Google DNS.  Nor should you use the dynamic DNS host name, either.  You should typically not be running DNS services for a domain registered by someone else, and the dynamic DNS host name is not yours.  I'd recommend registering a real domain, or using a subdomain of a domain you already have registered.   Why register a domain for a private network?  Because picking and maintaining a bogus domain is getting incrementally more difficult over time, given the increasing numbers of new top-level domains coming online.

• Phone stuck at "Configuring IP"

So recently we moved about 50 phone devices (Cisco 7945's) from one area to another in our DR site. When we did most of them came up with bootstrap, however, got stuck at "configuring IP". We later learned of a known issue from the Cisco switch team that because we moved the phones from one VLAN to another on the same subnet the phone remained in this state. We know that a DHCP release must be performed to flush the IP configuration before moving according to switch team.
However, the phone group indicates this is not cached information and that CDP sends out a request to the switch for its VLAN information and then request an IP form the DHCP server.
Once the phones were stuck in this state we manually erased the DHCp configuration from the phone and they came up fine. We did leave several in the Configuring IP state, (NOTE: we know this Configuring IP state is dynamic to general network connectivity issues as we see it when a phone can only bootstrap and not even reach the network) and when I came in the next morning they were all up and registered.
The big question is, "What released the information to bring the phone online?" Was it the switch that timed out or the phone that finally flushed the information and sent a valid CDP request?
Thanks,
Tom Harshman

Hi Chitra,
Are you using manual or automatic registration. If it is automatic please make sure that the same is enabled under callmanager group and under Unified CM on the cucm admin page. Also make sure that the phone with configuring IP message has got the correct IP address and is pingable from cucm.

• Software Update seems stuck on "Configuring Installation"

i got the automatic update notice for the latest OS 10.5.? i don't remember
went to download the new software. now its been stuck on "configuring installation" for about the last 15 minutes
how long is this process supposed to take?

Give it at least an hour. BTW, make a bootable backup/clone of your 10.5.3 installation before proceeding? If not, tsk, tsk. See these for details:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
If you cancel the installation operation, you have a good chance of mucking the OS up. Subsequent recovery is tenuous. If you're lucky, you might still have a bootable installation. If that's the case, then download and manually install the 10.5.4 COMBO update.

• 7961 Phone stuck on "Configuring IP"

We have a phone system that is hosted and maintained by a third party vendor. We have approximately 100+ phones across 4 physical locations, they are all the 7961 models(We are upgrading in 2014).
A single phone has been having a issue where it will work 90% of the time, at a random moment the phone will start to register, update CTl etc and then begin to configure IP which could last anywhere up to 4 hours. This problem is random at best...it could happen twice in a week or just twice in a month. I have reached out to the company hosting the system - at their request I have done the following:
1. Change/move cable to a different port on the switch
2. Change the cable from the phone to the wall and change wall jack port
3. Replace the phone
None of these have solved the issue. I know the phones are old but its strange how it is this one phone that is repeatedly having the issue. All the networks configurations are correct. The only way to get the phone back up and running is to unplug it a few times and hope that is stops configuring.
Anybody ever come across this before?
Just a further update..after rebooting the phone this morning it has been stuck in "Registering" mode for the lat 2 hours. I can see on CUCM that the phone has an IP address but is showing as "unregistered". Looking at the phone itself it has the correct DHCP server,TFTP server, IP address etc

Thanks Gregory,
I have not done a reset of the phone yet. I will try that next - I was also thinking of manually settings the IP address but I don't know if this would help...from my previous comment I could see that even in "registering" mode the phone got an IP address but showed unregistered on the CUCM.
Would any of the staus or debug messages be of use, I can attach them to my post.

• Windows 8 stuck at configuring updates 12%

I got this same error twice in a row, first time I refreshed my pc, tried to install updates again only to land at same 12% mark. What do I do? Can I just not install the updates? I am running an hp Pavilion g7-2245nr I have no idea what to do too get
past this, should I just return the computer? I'm currently on the advanced options screen waiting for some help on what to do.

I ran into a similar problem while setting up a friends new computer this past weekend that had Windows 8.  I had it do Windows updates and it installed 12 updates.  After the reboot it got stuck on 35% and after around 8 minutes, it gave a quick
error that updates couldn't be configured and it rebooted.  It went through the updates again and got stuck at the same 35% and again rebooted, but this time I didnt' see the error.  Then after this reboot, it 'paused' at the 35% for around 4 minutes
but actually went through and finished them.  (It gave me very little confidence that the updates actually got installed, or that this problem won't happen again on his computer.)
I've seen comments where folks recommend if you're stuck to reboot and quickly press F8 repeatedly to go into Safe Mode and the run "msconfig" and remove the startup line(s) that are running the Windows Updates.  However, even if this works and
it gets you get into your Windows after the reboot, won't the same error occur the next time you do updates??  Regardless, this problem does seem to have occured to multiple people with their Windows Updates getting stuck and I don't think anyone really
knows why it is happening, which is not very comforting when you see your pc has updates to install and you wonder if you install them will it get stuck!

• C240 M3 Stuck at "Configuring and testing memory .."

Hi,
This server's just been returned to us from Cisco, who had it on loan since it was new.   We're trying to put it back into service, but have hit the following problem.
On first power-up the server gets as far as the "Configuring and testing memory .." message.  Just that message, it doesn't show any progress in actually testing memory.   After a few seconds it shuts itself down, then spins up again, repeating that a couple of times before sitting with the "Configuring and testing memory .." message at the top of the screen, but now also showing CIMC IP address at the bottom.   All four LEDs above the power button show steady green,  and the unit ID buttons switch the blue LED on/off as they should.
I can get to the CIMC login screen, but the password's been changed from default so can't get any further in that direction until we find out the new user/password details.  Unless someone knows how to reset CIMC to default.
I've tried the following recovery steps ..
(1) If we set the "Clear CMOS" jumper J2065, the server won't power up.  It powers up to standby, but does not respond on pressing the power button.
(2) Using the "BIOS recovery" jumper J2068 doesn't appear to have any effect, the server does not read the recovery file from USB flash drive.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tony S

Cheers.  There's not much to reseat at this stage.   The server came back with two CPUs of unknown type, I've removed and set those aside in case they're some sort of weird CPU that needs a special memory configuration.
We've fitted a single E5-2609 as CPU1 and single DIMM in A1.  There are no PCI cards or anything else to reseat.    As a matter of fact the server behaves exactly the same if there's no memory at all, making me think it's hanging up before starting the memory check.
I would love to get into the CIMC, but does anyone know a way to reset the username/password other than via the BIOS screens (which aren't accessible).
Thanks, Tony S
