7925G configuration

Hi,
I need guidance on configuring 7925G.  The WLAN in the WLC has been configured for 802.1x authentication.  I am not sure if EAP-TLS or PEAP will be used.  If EAP-TLS will be used, a certificate must be installed in the 7925G?  If PEAP will be used, a certificate is not required in the 7925G?
Please advise.
Regards,

Depends on the Security Mode configured on the 7925 phone.
If you want to use PEAP, then select PEAP. The server side cert can be uploaded optionally via the 792x phone webpage where server validation can then be enabled.
If you want to use EAP-TLS, then select EAP-TLS.
Can use a custom / user-installed cert or the MIC for the client cert.
The server side cert must also be uploaded via the 792x phone webpage.
See the 7925 Deployment Guide for more info.

  • Configuring WL profile on 7925g phone

I am using template (which I just created) to configure wireless profile on 7925g phones. This template is saved on network share so all the techs can access it.   Here is what I do now to configure WL on a 7925 phone---
-using usb cable, I plug-in the phone in my laptop
    -go to web interface
    -go to BackUp Settings
-type the encryption Key (in Backup settings menu)
-import template from network to my phone
    -phone reboots
BUT, wireless connection on the phone doesn't work until I go back to web interface and re type the Pre-Shared Key again. Is there anyway to save this key in my template so I don't have to do this step over and over agin? Thanks

wireless connection on the phone doesn't work until I go back to web interface and re type the Pre-Shared Key again.
Hmmmmm ... Maybe something wrong with the firmware the phone is using?  While you have the phone connected via USB cable, could you upgrade to, say 1.4(3) and later?

  • Best practices on wlan configuration

I have 6 accesspoints with controller . We are using voice video and data on the wireless with multiple SSID and vlans what could be the best practice on the accesspoints QOS and the switch port configuration of 3750 is it trunk or accessport?

Well you can start out by looking at the 792x deployment guide if that's what your using for voice.

  • Any extra fine tuning / configuration to be done for Client / Voice Roaming .

    Dear Folks,
Is there any additional configuration to be done on the 5508 WLC for Wireless Laptop / Voice Roaming ? I tested with Wireless IP Phone and found some blankness in voice , whereas i have other access point nearby , which wasn't switching over easily .
    Regards,

    Hi,
When working with Cisco IP phones as mention before, we need to comply with the following
configuration on the WLC to avoid connectivity issues as per the deployment
guide of the 7921 and 7925 IP phones.

If using eap-fast with the WLC, the 802.1x timeout is 2
seconds.  This is not enough time for the IP phone to download and process
the PAC.  The timeout can be increased:
    "config advanced eap request-timeout 20"
    "save config:
In the 7921 phone, unlike with the 7920 phone, 'auto' does not mean eap-fast
or leap, it means 'leap' with wpa2, leap with wpa2, or wpa-psk.
If you want to use EAP-FAST, then use EAP-FAST mode, not 'auto'.
For 7921-7921 conversations to work, 'peer-to-peer blocking' needs to be

  • 7925G vs IBM laptop - RSSI and SNR vastly differ - Same AP, Same Location?

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to troublshoot an issue.
I have an IBM notbook attached to a 1242AG AP on WLC1.
I have a Cisco 7925G phone connected to the same AP. Both devices are next to each other.
Both connected to different WLANs, Data and voice respectivley.
    Data runs G only.
    Voice runs A only.
No rates below 12Mbps are enabled.
Is it normal to see the phone with a much worse RSSI and SNR than the data device because of the high freq?
    Example,
    Data laptop.
    RSSI -35
    SNR 63
    (thus noise is -98)
    Voice phone.
    RSSI -75
    SNR 18
    (thus noise is -93)
I can see from this, that the noise is OK, but RSSI is the problem.
Also, can anyone tell me how often when you do a show client detail <mac>, these values update? Is it every 5 minutes? Is it configurable?
    Many thx indeed,
    Ken

Given that the phone is on 802.11a, the results you show are not unexpected. 802.11a does not propagate as far as 802.11g (assuming the same EIRP and radiation pattern for both radios at the AP). What other AP's do you have using 802.11a on the same channel? That could also be part of your noise problem.
Are you getting RSSI values from the CLI, or from the devices? There is no standard for calculating RSSI, so comparing the RSSI reported by different devices is not apples-to-apples. Comparing it at the controller might be OK, but I don't know if the controller is reporting an RSSI that it calculates, or if it simply displays what it is receiving from the devices. I believe the controller is simply displaying what RSSI value the ap receives from the devices, so using "show client detail" from the CLI would also not be apples-to-apples when comparing two different devices.
Also - the laptop probably has a better antenna (probably actually two antennas in the display panel) than the 7925 has.

  • 7925g - roaming issue using a band only

We have a small deployment of 7921g and 7925g phones. The 7925g phones while stationary when set to use the a band roam (while idle or in call) to distant APs with much weaker signal strength. That of course impacts negatively the quality of the call. The 7921 phones do not exhibit this behavior.
    Additional data:
    Access points and coverage:
Meraki MR14 & MR24 set to select their own channels (channel spreading) and auto reduce power according to the RF environment to avoid co-channel interference. Currently the APs transmit on channels 1, 6, 11 and 36, 44, 149 and 157.
Coverage has sufficient overlap for seamless roaming but it is really irrelevant in this case since the 7925 phones roam while stationary.
    Phone firmware:
    Initially 1.4.2 now the 7925s run 1.4.2ES.1
The phones have been configured to continuously update the AP list (CUCM setting) and channels on which the APs do not transmit have been excluded (through the web interface of the phones)
    SR 618866317

Since you are seeing unexpected roaming and you believe that  is the reason for the choppy audio, we need to gather phone logs as well  as correlated WLAN sniffer traces.
The phone should have Kernel, WLAN Driver, WLAN manager set to DEBUG level.
You can increae the # of files and file size to 10 /250 kb or enable syslog via USB.
Be  aware that with this increased logging, audio quality can be impacted,  but since we are troubleshooting unexpected roaming it should be ok.
Just want to be sure you don't enable this debug level on many phones / production user phones, where we make things worse.
Once you get the logs, attach them to the case by replying to your SR thread with [email protected] copied.
For the comment about 7921 and 7925 RSSI, they are different chipsets (although same vendor) and different antenna type.
So will not be 1 to 1 exactly.
Will need to ensure that the 7925 downstream RSSI is -67 dBm or better as well as the upstream signal (from 7925 to the AP).
But since the issues don't seem signal related, let's not focus here, but instead focus on the unexpected roams.
So yes we need all 3 modules enabled at DEBUG level as mentioned above.
Get that info and attach it to the SR and let your assigned TAC engineer know.
I already reached out to the TAC engineer assigned to your case.

  • 7925g have a wireless connection problems

    Hi Everyone,
I have a serious problem about 7925G connection via wireless with 1532 outdoor access point. We are using 802.11a for voice connection. While 7925 phones roams to outdoor access point, They cannot even see the SSID. After we checked configuration wireless LAN controller and 1532 model Access point, we  saw that, their channel rate is between 100 and 160. We cannot set it to lower value and 7925G model phones can not connect these access points.
What you suggest about this situation?

What IP address does your computer get in system preferences/network? If it is anything other than 10.0.1.x, then it sounds like you set your cables up incorrectly or are joining a different network than your own.
Check the AirPort Menu bar icon at the top of your screen to verify you haven't joined a neighbor's wirelss network. Also,
check to make sure your ISP's ethernet connection is into the WAN port of the base station with the circle symbol, and not the LAN port with the <-> symbol.

  • Quick way to assign speed dials on 7925G phones?

    Hi
We have 22 7925G phones and we need to assign the Zero through Nine keys on the keypad to be speed dials.
The phone will only allow me to add a speed dial for these keys which is part of the phones personal address book which is annoying considering we have a corporate address book.
Its not a good use of anybodies time to program in each entry into the Personal Address book on 22 phones and then setup the speed dials.
Surely there is a quicker way of doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi
Once the phone is on the network, browse to it's IP address.
Click Configurations/Phone Book. Default username and password are admin/Cisco
    Configure the phone book.
Then on the left you can use the export/import functin to export it from this phone and load it into the other phones.

  • Problem with Cisco 7925g freezing

    Hi Guys,
I need some help with the following problem involving our Cisco 7925g VOIP Phones.
    The symptoms of our problem
The 7925g phone functions perfectly with good voice quality, no one direction calls and no really roaming problems whilst it is active and operating in normal mode
After an undefined period of time (anything from 20 minutes to 5 hours) the phone’s screen goes black and freezes.
The phones power button does not function at this stage and requires the battery to be removed and before the phone will restart. No matter how long you wait, have even left the phone alone for a few days, the phone will not restart without removing the battery.
We are experience identical symptoms on all our 7925g phones and at all our Branches, while the branch have same Access Controllers and Access Points they do have differently configuration Wireless Service Security and Authentication Settings.
We have even tested a 7925g phone on a completely open SSID with no encrpytion and the phone still experiences the same problems.
We presume from the symptoms and the diagstonics log obtained from one of the phones, that the problems seems to caused by the memory being full. Any ideas if we are on the right track?

We also use the Cisco 7921g on this wireless infrastruture and this model seems to be working perfectly.
We have also updated the firmware of the 7925g to the latest version 1.4.3
    Access Controller:
    Model: H3C WX5002
    Software Version: 2308P11 (Latest Release)
    Access Points: WA2612-AGN and WA2220-AG
We have logged a support case with the H3C Support Technicians as well, but since all other devices include the Cisco 7921g phone work perfectly, they are battling to find a solution for us.
Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated, as currently I have run out of ideas.
    Many Thanks,

I have thousands of 7925g on that code and we aren't having any issues.

If you run a ping from a local device (Laptop, switch, router) or from a remote device I see the same results...

I have gone through the 7925G Deployment guide and made all the recommended settings on the WLC, still no better. We can't make or receive calls.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rich

    Serge,
    Thank you for the reply.
The IPT engineers stated the following:
"We couldn't make or receive calls, we had gotten Network busy messages"
I'm not sure how helpful this is, but my understanding is they were able to make a call this morning. I had spent a few hours late last night going through the 7925G Deployment Guide and configuring the WLC based the the Deployment Guide. The changes may have helped. Specifically, the QOS was set to "Gold", I changed it to "Plat". I also removed the require DHCP option.
    Thanks again for the reply.

  • 7925g phones static/hissing and roaming issues

    Hello,
We've been having an issue for several months now with our over 200 7925g phones.  Nurses are complaining that the phones have static and will drop the voice of the other caller and several times need to repeat the conversation.  We have confirmed several scenario's.  It occurs when both callers are on 7925g inside the coverage areas in the hospital; between 7925g and 7940 desk phone; 7925g and Nortel desk phone.  We've tested on 802.11a and 802.11b/g.  I do see a difference when on 802.11b/g however still get a hissing when connecting to a different AP.
    4 - 4400 controllers,  6.0.202 firmware
    1 - 5508 controller, 6.0.202 firmware
    234 - LAP1131AG AP's
    6 - AP1131AG AP's
    7 - LAP1142N AP's
    3 - LAP1310G AP's
    AP's are on 6.0.202.0 firmware
7925g's all are on 1.3.3 firmware but we have a select few that we are testing at both hospitals with the newest firmware 1.4.1 and still same results.
    235  - 7925g phones.
We have followed the 7925g setup & deployment guide, WLC Config Analyzer and made sure all checks were made.  The only setting we plan on testing this week is changing the CCKM authentication change which was recommended.  Currently we are WPA TKIP
We have disabled the higher rates (36-54) on the 802.11a.
We also have AirMagnet VoFi analyzer which is showing issues when roaming from AP.  The alarms indicate a one-way audio issue and points to the AP's and phones power not matching.  We have our Tx power level on the controller to automatic, Max Power Level at 30 dBm, Min. at -10 dBm, power Threshold at -70 (WLC Config Analyzer recommendation).  The phone TX Power is set at 8 dBm.  Call Power Save Mode has been tested with both None and U-APDS/PS-Poll.
We have a case open with Cisco TAC and she has requested debugs from our controllers.  I have sent over 7 and she is not coming back with anything solid and not much help so far.
Our tests between 802.11a and 802.11b/g (RSSI setting on phone Auto-a and Auto-bg) have shown better with the bg mode but still static and/or hissing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

    Thanks!
We finally had an awesome Cisco Engineer on our SR.  We straightened out the code and now have the correct 1.4.1.1.1.7 ES image and also configured CCKM.
We are currently testing with about 20 phones before we deploy it to over 200 phones.
Below are the steps we took and so far the tests have resolved the issue.
    1. Downloaded & installed the 1.4.1.1.1.7 code on the 7925g's.
    2. Changed the Scan Mode on the device in Call Manager to 'continuous'
    3. On the Controllers, configured & implemented CCKM on the voice WLAN only.
    4.  Set the Radio Policy for the Voice WLAN to 802.11a only.
    5.  Only using channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161 on 802.11a
    6.  Disabled the 6,9,36,48 & 54 Mbps rates for 802.11a only
    7. Configured the phone with the new voice SSID with CCKM, Security Mode as EAP-Fast, & 802.11 Mode = Auto-a.
We are following up with these test users next week so I will post if this fixes our issue.
Thanks for all the assistance everyone!

    Configuring the Pre-shared Key
When using Auto (AKM) with WPA Pre-shared key or WPA2 with Pre-shared key for authentication, you must configure a Passphrase/Pre-shared key in the Wireless Security Credentials area.
    Pre-shared Key Formats
The Cisco Unified Wireless IP Phone 7925G supports ASCII and hexadecimal formats. You must use one of these formats when setting up a WPA Pre-shared key:
    Hexadecimal
For hexadecimal keys, you must enter 64 hex digits (0-9 and/or A-F); for example, AB123456789CD01234567890EFAB123456789CD01234567890EF3456789C
    ASCII
For ASCII keys, you must enter a character string that uses 0-9, A-Z (upper and lower case), including symbols and is from 8 to 63 characters in length; for example, GREG12356789ZXYW
To set up a Pre-shared key in the Wireless Credentials area, follow these steps:

  • 7925G - Registering to CUCM issue

    Hi all,
I am trying to configure a new 7925G phone. The phone uses a certificate for authetication to the AP.
Regarding the connection is ok as I can access the phone acress the Network.
When I create the phone into the CUCM, it seems that the phone is registered as per the status:
Registration     Registered with Cisco Unified Communications Manager 10.x.x.x
The issue is that the registration step turns with no stop on the phone, and I found the following error in the log file:
    2012-09-18 10:51:08:0460 HERMIT user.info modprobe: insmod -s  -k eth0
    2012-09-18 10:51:10:0270 HERMIT user.err SCCP: Skinny_get_tftpIp: Could NOT getGNetutilVarVal!
    2012-09-18 10:51:10:0270 HERMIT user.err SCCP: Skinny_get_alt_tftpIp: Could NOT getGNetutilVarVal!
Any idea to fix it ?

  • Airport can no longer read or write the configuration of Time Capsule

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.3 and maintained with all available patches. I have also a Time Capsule with version 7.6.3 of the firmware. I use AirPort 6.2. So everything seems to be updated with the latest versions.
This has really been a good setup for nearly a year now, but earlier this month Time Machine suddenly stopped to work and could no longer do backups to the Time Capsule. I have tried to factory reset the Time Capsule several times, but I still get problems when writing the configuration to the Time Capsule. I get an error message saying "An error occurred while updating the configuration".
Airport is furthermore not able to detect the Time Capsule correctly anymore, so I have to configure it by entering the IP address. But after setting up WLAN, disks, etc. and enhanching the security, I just receive the error message when I try to write the config. The Internet connection works perfectly anyway, both via cable and wireless.
    Anyone got any tips?

Do the setup by ethernet in full isolation from the network.
Start from a full factory reset.
I would recommend you take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or even earlier if the TC is older than 12months. 7.5.2 was very reliable. All these bugs started with 7.6 and the change to Lion.
I would also recommend installing 5.6 utility.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
