7961G and Power Consumption
I have a 3750 with 48 ports.
I can only use 24 ports with 7961's. After that, no more power can be drawn from the switch.
I noticed that the 7961's are using 15.4watts of power.
7960's used 7.7watts mode.
Can the 7961's use 7.7watts mode?
This is not configurable on the switch.
Is it configurable on the IP Phone??
I can't find any documentation on Cisco's web site in regards to 7961 power consumption (only 7960 power consumption).
thanks,
Paul
Hi Paul,
Are these phones 7961G or 7961G-GE? The 7961G are a class 2 device (7.7 watts) and the 7961G-GE phones are a class 3 device (15.4 watts). These are not configurable settings.
Each Cisco Catalyst 3750-24PS or Cisco Catalyst 3750-48PS switch can optionally detect the PD Power Classification signature and budget the appropriate power. This reduces the maximum power that must be budgeted by the switch and provisioned in the wiring closet. The Cisco Catalyst 3750 PoE switches have **370W**(this is enough for 48 class 2 devices @ 7.7 watts 48x7.7 = 369.6 watts) available for Power over Ethernet, which is shared by all 24/48 ports. The switch allocates the maximum power a PD needs.
Have a look at these Cisco docs;
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G
Power Requirements The phone is interoperable with Cisco Pre-standard PoE and with IEEE 802.3af PoE (the phone is a Class 2 device); 48 VDC is required; it can be supplied locally at the desktop using an optional AC-to-DC power supply (part number CP-PWR-CUBE-3=).
From this doc;
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_data_sheet0900aecd802ff020.html
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE
Power Requirements The phone supports the IEEE 802.3af PoE (the phone is a Class 3 device) standard; 48 VDC is required; it can be supplied locally at the desktop using an AC-to-DC power supply (part number CP-PWR-CUBE-3=).
The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE supports IEEE 803.af Power over Ethernet (PoE). It also can be powered locally with a power supply (part number CP-PWR-CUBE-3). **Note: The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7961G-GE does not support Cisco Pre-standard PoE.**

SGE2010 and SRW2008: Noise level and power consumption?
Hello!
I am looking for information on the actual noise level and power consuption produced by the forementioned models.
Many thanks in advance,
LucaLuca,
Power consumption and other key hardware product attributes can be found in the following document (in the documents section of this community):
https://www.myciscocommunity.com/docs/DOC-8669
WRT noise levels, here they are:
SGE2010 - 51.4 dB
SRW2008 - N/A - there is no fan inside this switch - uses and external power supply
Thanks,

Ram and power consumption.
Just wondering, does increasing ram have any
effect on power consumption, good or bad?
I'd like to go up to 2gigs.
Thamks.Hi,
increasing RAM does have the effect, that your MB will draw a bit more power when running, since the RAM-Chips do need a refreshing of their cells.
As of how much this does lower the running-on-battery-time, I don't know.
But it shouldn't be that much.
The positive effect however is, that your MB will run better, especially when you have some apps running at the same time.

USB Message and Power Consumption
I recently began getting the following message: "Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one of more of your USB devices have been disabled." How can I make it stop?
I am looking into buying an external mouse, but I am trying to decide between the wired or wireless Apple Mighty Mouse. Which do you think would drain the battery quicker on my MacBook Pro? Also, I have read some reviews on the Apple Mighty Mouse and many have claimed to be disappointed by the hindered use of the scroll ball, supposedly getting too dirty or something. Is this something I should consider?
Thanks in advance for the response, I'm a switcher who is very new to all this. -
Fragmentation and Power Consumption
It seems to me that if I've updated songs on my iPod (e.g. replacing with PLUS non-DRM'ed versions), then those songs etc will be fragmented on the iPod disk drive.
If they are fragmented, and if I playback with "Shuffle by Album", then it seems that it will require much more disk thrashing to load the songs into the RAM.
So: It would seem that I'd benefit from completely re-loading my iPod after doing any major updates with replaced/removed/added songs - anything that might cause lots of fragmentation.
What do you think?I agree with your thought process. I do that periodically myself. I usually end up doing it anyway because I have different libraries I use for different occasions.

Power consumption under Vista.
I know this isn't really a photoshop thing, but I happened to discover it while I was playing with photoshop!
I have a performance monitor for my graphics card, and it told me that the card used to run at 270MHz for 2D applications under XP.
Now I have loaded Vista, the card is running flat out at 3D performance levels of 666Mhz, all the time. This is despite the fact that I have disabled all the Vista mega graphics.
I manually underclocked the card to 335Mhz, and there is no difference in Vista performance. Especially, there is no difference with Photoshop. But of course, running at the lower f, the GPU will be consuming less power and have alonger life, etc. I mean the running temperature dropped a fair old bit!
Does anyone know why Vista is running the card in 3D mode all the time? It possible to get it to stop?> but he is trying to downgrade an upper-end card.
that was part of my point. i wonder if he's stressing the card because it's not running the way it's supposed to (like translate this to that and back to this in order to display downgraded.). i suggest he turn aero back on and check his performance mon again to see if there's any change/improvement.
>I think that he would need a better case if heat is an issue
agreed. or better cooling system.
> and power consumption is not going to decrease that much, probably needs a better power supply.
possibly that too, but not necessarily. -
Since I have upgraded from 7.1 then the power consumption increased slightly unbelievable. I have new batteries in my iphone 5 and when I had at ios 7 so was consumption that allows the battery envelope in two days and with ios 7.1 so is it only 12 hours before I need to recharge the battery.
Wrote a little wrong the first time!

Power consumption and thermal dissipation for SG 100-24
Hello,
I need to know the following informations about Switch model SG 100-24
- power consumption (watt)
- thermal dissipation (BTU/hour)
Please may somebody help me out on this ?
(by the way such information is not in the Cisco documentation)
Thank you,Hi Dave,
thank you for your interest, please do not forget the thermal dissipation.
Both power wattage and thermal information are essential for sizing a rack of many different appliances.
Looking forward to your answer then. Thank you

Average power consumption comparision: i7 and t500
Hi,
What is the average power consumption (non-peak) of a t500 system,
doing web-surfing and light tasks ?
I have read that the i7 mobiles (non-lenovo) are at 52W avg, and 75W peak,
and this will help me decide whether to buy the t500 or wait for the lenovo
i7 based laptops
thanks!P8400 / P8600 etc core2duo mobile (2,2-2,4ghz) take 25W. I think in office use my T400 uses about 15W, not sure. It depends on load. I find quad core laptop CPUs quite useless for the average user.I think the i7 mobiles have a 45W specification, which is quite higher than the modern dual cores. I prefer longer battery life to having four cores i will most likely never use in daily work. This changes, of course, if you use your laptop as Desktop replacement or primarily for CPU intensive tasks, such as video en/decoding.

Power consumption for router and switch
I have a linksys EZSX88W switch which I checked power consumption of 70ma idle. It's supplied by the adapter which has an output of 1000ma. Not sure what the consumption when switch is being used. I also have an WRT54GS but haven't checked consumption yet, but it's powered by the same 1000ma adapter. In an effort to save energy-that -GREEN FEELING- I was thinking of using on power adapter to power bothe the router and switch. Has anyone tried this yet?? Also if I posted this in the wrong area I hope the moderator will move the post.
thanksSo you are thinking of Powering on both the Devices using a single Power Adapter? Well never tried to make both the devices use a single power adapter. As far as i think its not possible. But if you still wish, you can give a try and check if that works for you or not.

Power consumption and on/off status?
Greetings!
One: I am trying to find out what the power consumption is for the iPod Hi-Fi in watts.
Two: Is the Hi-Fi drawing power if the Hi-Fi is plugged into the wall but the iPod is not in the dock?
These questions are not covered in the literature nor on the website. When I called the Helpline, six different customer service and technical support staffers didn't know either answer. The Apple Store employees in San Diego also didn't know.
A suggestions for the next generation of Hi-Fi: Make it so the unit does not draw power unless an iPod is in the dock or an auxiliary input plug is not connected.
This would allow my Hi-Fi to be placed in a bookcase in a semi-permanent installation not requiring the need to be unplugged everytime the iPod was not in use.
Thanks,
Ralph
iPod 30GB & iPod Hi-FiOne: I am trying to find out what the power
consumption is for the iPod Hi-Fi in watts.
Are you interested in the sound output, as specified by many loudspeaker makers? Or did you only want to know the drain from the mains supply, for cost or environmental reasons?
If the latter, finding someone with a watt meter would be the easiest way. Apple do not specify the power consumption. I would guess they didn't want to get into a competition about whose loudspeaker has the most music power (since everyone lies).
If I had to guess, I would think around 25 watts peak when running on batteries, around 80 watts peak when running on AC. That is a very rough guess based on how long batteries last (5 hours), the sound output difference between battery (102dB) and AC (108dB), and the likely efficiency of their amplifier (80%).
Testing with a watt meter would be a much better way to come up with a figure. I gather they are cheap and readily available in the USA (scarce and expensive here).
Two: Is the Hi-Fi drawing power if the Hi-Fi is
plugged into the wall but the iPod is not in the
dock?
Yes. Any device with a soft power switch draws power when not physically unplugged. However I would imagine in that state consumption would be less than one watt. Apple would almost certainly have used the same methods they use to reduce power on sleeping computers (when there is no input signal for a while). -
Thinkwatt: record power consumption and visualize it with gnuplot
https://github.com/mikar/thinkwatt wrote:
Thinkwatt is a bash script for use with thinkpad laptops. However, as of v0.2, it works with all kinds of laptops as long as they've got a battery attached.
Thinkwatt can
* record your power consumption,
* calculate an average of that consumption
* and visualize that data in a 2D gnuplot graphic.
options:
-r, --record record power consumption and optionally create a graph from the gathered data
-p, --plot create a plot image from a specified data file
-a, --average calculate the average power consumption from a specified data file
-q, --quiet makes thinkwatt less chatty
-o, --output the output file. can be prepended by a path.
-h, --help show this help text
examples:
thinkwatt -r (will record to a temp file until cancelled)
thinkwatt -r 300 -o /foo/bar/consumption.dat (will record for 5 minutes to the specified file)
thinkwatt -p /foo/bar/consumption.dat (will create a graph from the specified file)
Thinkwatt works with all laptops, not just Thinkpads.
If you're running thinkwatt on a Thinkpad it is still recommended to use tp_smapi as it provides more accurate results than the generic acpi.
This is an example of what the graph can look like:
It's mainly useful for retracing power consumption during certain situations (e.g. measuring the influence of certain hardware or software (kernel comes to mind), or simply reliably gather typical power consumption for certain activity profiles like surfing, working, watching movies etc.)
I guess I'll add to the script when and if time and my bash skills allow it. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
You can get thinkwatt from my git repository here or the AUR here.

demian

I found it cost a lot of energy . Is it true? Is there any spec to describe detail power consumption about airplay and airplay mirroring?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV uses 6 W, which IMO is hardly a lot of energy. -
Power consumption standby and turned off
Hi there,
I tested the power consumption of my new Mac Pro with a watt meter while in standby mode and while turned off. In both tests I got nearly the same figures -around 35 watt.
Do you have these too or do I have a problem?
Thanks guys,
MclaneIn sleep my watt meter is reporting 3 watts.
If I have allow bluetooth device to wake up computer enabled in the bluetooth settings I the watt meter reports 5 watts during sleep.
Not seeing anything when shutdown.
I have not got any usb or firewire devices connected.
Do you have any usb or firewire devices connected ?
According the the apple dev docs the Mac Pro provides power to the firewire ports during sleep and will also provide firewire power when shutdown if firewire devices were already connected.
