7D Mark II AF Movie Servo mode

I got the camera for stills but thought I would try it out on my sons 1st wrestling match of the season. Since it is fast action, I put it in 60p mode. The limitation at 60p is that there is no af servo mode. Does that mean if the subject is moving out of the focus dof, you have to press the focus button to get it to refocus?
I noticed that the camera was hunting focus a bit. For my purposes, I was happy with the results but it would nicer if it just auto focused and tracked. I am just trying to understand the limitations and trade-offs. Perhaps I will try 30p next time.
Any thoughts on 7d mark II video for sports?
Thanks

Hello Maxpower,
Yes, the issue you experienced with the camera hunting is undoubtedly due to the AF mode used.  You might try using 30p, as you said, next time and also consider using an STM series lens.  As this will aid in continuous AF in Movie AF Servo mode.

  • Can't Build project: "Marker position in movie not at GOP boundary"

I am doing a slideshow project in DVDSP4, my first using Aperture as the raw converter instead of ACR. Since I'm not liking the way the colors look in simulation mode, I decided to build the project now, before it is finished, so that I can see how it looks on a DVD player hooked to a TV. However, as soon as I start the build, I get the error message that one of the photoshop files has a "Marker position in movie not at GOP boundary". How can that be—these are stills, not video. Would the fact that I have not renamed the file cause this kind of error message? The rest of the files have been renamed in sequence, this particular one has not. I know I have done this kind of thing successfully in past projects, and am not sure why things are different now.

    Hi:
I never experienced that error but try this: go to DVDSP preferences and in the Track settings select the option "Fix invalid markers on build" and try building it again.
    Search is your friend !

False alarm folks. I posted this prematurely. I did a search and Drew13 answered this exact problem in a previous post.

  • Unable to move preview mode screen up and down on a mac

I'm teaming with a coworker to build a website on Muse.  He's operating on a PC and I'm operating on a mac.  We are both able to open the muse file and make changes, but I'm experiencing problems when I click over to Preview Mode on my mac.  No matter which mouse I use with my computer (magic trackpad, trackpad on my laptop or regular usb mouse with a wheel) I am unable to move the screen up and down to see the content we built lower on the page.  The pc does not have this same problem.  Ideas?

    Hi ,
    Thanks for the response.
But I am looking to move the rows in a particular list A and not between 2 separate list items A and B according to the date.
List Project A has separate tasks defined which needs to accomplished in a timely manner for the project to complete on schedule.
I want to be able to move these tasks which are in a table on the SharePoint List.
    Hope this is clear.
Please let me know if you have suggestions for this.

  • Move file or mark for system move file - How?

    Hello,
I finally bought Lightroom. Searching these posts I saw someone commenting about why a person would want to use LR to move a file. Seriously? Because I Want it to be a full on DAM solution. And the first mess I must de-tangle involves some years of very bad habits, both in iphoto and in my own head.
Therefore, there is something that I don't think Lightroom can do yet but I would love to be found wrong. I don't think LR is much help in marking for the system to find later out side of LR, and then moving the files, right, wrong?
I don't care if it marks the file in a way that the system can later find it and move it, or, if LR moves a selected file set already in LR. Either way what I am trying to do is organize correctly and that must mean moving found sets of files to where they belong.
It seems like overkill to purchase iView just for this one task. Qpict is a lot cheaper than iView ($35 vs $199) and can move files around. I was just wondering though why LR cant yet do this? OR, am I wrong? Does anyone but me think this is important? Any others requesting this (LR is missing applescript support on the Mac side as well)
    Thanks
    David

    levelbest,
If I understand your question, you've got many images in iPhoto that you want to reorganize and import into Lr. Is that the issue?
If so, there are various ways to tackle it. One easy way is to create the new folders as you go.
On your Desktop, make a new folder (Shift-Cmd-N). Name it "For Lr Import."
Now open iPhoto. Scroll back to your first image in iPhoto. Let's say it's from the year 2000. Select that first image plus the photos you want to group with it. Maybe they are all shots of Niagara Falls. Export only those photos (full-size) to that Desktop folder you just made: "For Lr Import."
Now switch to Lightroom. Go to File: Import Photos (or Shift-Cmd-I). In the window that opens, navigate to Desktop>For Lr Import. Select all the photos in that folder (click on the the first and then Cmd-A), and click Choose.
That window will close and the Lr Import dialog will open. Your choices here will depend on what kind of files you're working with - jpeg or raw, and what you want to do with them. The options are easy to figure out. This method works faster if you choose a "move" option rather than a "copy" option because it will move the images out of the desktop folder and into whatever folder you create for them. "Copy" leaves them sitting in that Desktop folder, and you've gotta clear 'em out manually before the next export/import -- an extra step each time.
So here's one way to go (in the Lr Import dialog):
Under File Handling, select "Move Photos to a new location and import."
Under Move To, navigate to Pictures. Create a new folder. Name it Photos 2000. Inside that folder, create another new folder. Name it Niagara Falls.
Under Organize, select By Date and pick a date format.
Don't miss taking advantage of the backup option. Check the "Backup To" box and create a similar hierarchy on a different drive. You could call the top-level folder Photo Originals.
Now you've created a hierarchy you can continue using with each export from iPhoto. Just keep adding folders to Photos 2000 until you exhaust that year. Then create Photos 2001 the same way. All your photos will eventually be organized by year>topic>date (or however you set up the hierarchy).
If you are converting raw to dng during import, the process is the same. You can use the backup function to preserve your raw files.
    Good luck,
    Jack

  • Can't import files not marked as .jpg, .mov, etc.

I'm importing a project from FCP7 and many of the files used in the project are .png, but aren't marked as such. When I search for them by their correct names within Premiere it doesn't even SHOW them.  Since there are literally hundreds of files involved, it doesn't work for me to go into the folder and rename everything with the correct designation. FCP seems to know what they are & locates them by name. But I can't transfer my FCP Studio to my new computer because it was an upgrade.
Will Premiere let me bring in files just based on names? Is there some kind of preference that will let me do that???
I've unchecked file extension and unchecked find in media browser, so that when I try to "locate" a file, I CAN find it in my finder, but if I select it it says it doesn't recognize the file type.
Is there a workaround besides renaming them all????  Thanks.

Most applications need to know the file type thru the ".extension".  I am surprised that FCP doesnt need it!
Add the extension via a batch rename.

  • 7D Mark II HDR and custom modes: FIRMWARE CHANGE NEEDED

Firmware change needed: HDR function poorly implemented.
Looked forward to what appeared to be a fully functional HDR that saved the original RAWs as well as a rendered JPG in camera so you could see the results quickly. BUT YOU DIDN'T ALLOW THE HDR FUNCTIONS TO BE SAVED IN THE CUSTOM MODES C1, C2 ...
On the original 7D, I used the mode dial to rapidly switch between HDR (usually shot with standard settings ISO 100, f8, AV +_2 brackets on a tripod in C1), HDR handheld in C2 back and forth to normal shooting in M, Av ... HDR is particularly useful to set into the custom modes because there are lots of settings to set and they end up being relatively standing for landscapes and interior architecture shots.
To use your HDR in camera function, I can't just change the mode dial, instead I have to fiddle with several entries to go in and out rendering the HDR function much less useful. Now I still have to do it the old way and wait until I upload and render HDRs several hours later rather than risk losing a shot looking at and fiddling with menu entries. That means bypassing all the great HDR capabilities you've built in.
BTW, on my wife's Sony a6000, the HDR settings are saved with their custom mode settings.

No problem.  They do technically monitor the forum, but there's very little interaction.  I'd be very surprised to find that they make any note of feature requests.
Traditionally Canon hasn't been very good about implementing new features via firmware, with the exception of the 1Dx.  Mainly they only fix issues, and even then it's rare  *cough*GPS battery drain*cough*.   There are some isolated instances of adding features to non-1Dx cameras, but it's rare.   That said, the 7d2 is kind of the flagship of Canon's crop sensor cameras, so you never know.
As an aside, are you using the HDR feature in camera, or just bracketing exposures for HDR in post?  It sounds like the former.  Have you been satisfied with in-camera HDR results?  Judging by the fact you add a custom shooting setting for it, I'd guess you shoot a lot of HDR.

  • TV episodes marked as movies

As a bit of background, I have two drives one with my media on and the other with a backup of said media. The backup is simply a copy which uses the modified date to determine if a newer version needs to be copied. The problem I have is that when I add a tv episode file to iTunes, it is automatically classed as a movie and I must manually set it to a TV episode. If I remove and re-add the file, it is once again marked as a movie and must be changed again.
This is more of an annoyance but the real problem is that when changing it, iTunes accesses the file and, although it is still identical, the modified date is changed. Obviously when I had to re-add all 1TB of series it was annoying that I had to wait 24 hours for it to be backed up again. Is this typical behaviour and is there a way to stop it? If I make the files read only, I am unable to change it from movie to TV episode.

I just tried changing the video kind through a visual basic script (a VBS file), and it turns out that this also messes with the original video file, as you described in your original post. There was a chance that changing the video kind through scripting may have left the original video file untouched, but alas it doesn't. I even tried restoring file attributes after changing the video kind, and some of those attributes are read-only (through both iTunes.Application as well as Scripting.FileSystemObject).
A long winded way of saying, I can't help.

  • Pressing on Tab marks a field and not moves between fields

    Hi,
I have an MVC app with some fields on the screen.
The issue is that when I press the TAB key the data in the field is marked and the marker does not move to the next field.
I had the same page in a not MVC BSP and I did not have this issue.
    This is in Firefox.
    Any clues?
    thanks,
    Itay

    Hi Raja,
Thanks for your help but that is not the solution for my problem.
I found the error, I had a field and a text for it and while doing some mass changes I put the model field reference in the text description by mistake.
After I removed it, the tab is working good again and the cursor is moving among all other fields.
    Thanks,
    Itay

  • Why does not my servo motor work?

    Hello all,
I can work my servo motors, so I have two questions.
Firstly, I'm using PXI-7340 & UMI 7764 to control AC motor on servo motor (TAMAGAWA SEIKI co.),
But in MAX, motor doesn't work with servo type. And there is no signal between AnalogOutput and AnalogOutputGround.
Can I connect UMI to the motor correctly?
Now, I connect encorder signals with changing differential line driver (motor driver) to TTL (UMI) using quadruple differential line receiver.
    Is it right?
If it is right, why does the motor work?
Secondarily, when I use stepper type in MAX, the motor work with open-loop. But when I use stepper type in MAX, the motor doesn't work with cloosed-loop.Why?
Polarities of encorders(A, B, Index) make matches my servo motors by setting in MAX.
    Why?
    Thanks,
    megumi

    Thank you for your reply.
The "does not work" means that the motor doesn't move with servo type.
In MAX, there is no error when a target position is less than 999 in 1-D Interactive, but doesn't move. When the target position is more than 1000 and I click "Apply" and "Start", error ramps of "Motor off" and "Following error occurred" are red. And the motor doesn't move.
I thought that firstly signals of encorder have been wrong because the motor have not moved with stepper mode of closed-loop and feedback of encorder.
So I would connect correctly wiring of encorders, but the motor doesn't move.
Wiring of all is "STEP", "DIR", "AO", "ENC A, B and Index bar" respectively. In MAX, type is servo mode, feedback is encorder, kinds of limit switch are not used.
I supply it if you need the other setup of wiring or information.

  • Has anyone solved the "all mail marked as junk" problem?

Mail marks almost all incoming mail and all sent mail as junk. I've found some inconclusive posts on this but no solution. Can anyone explain (or, better) fix this problem?

    Hi
have you read this thread? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=292113&tstart=100
esp about disabling junk filter & quitting mail.
You're using junk filter in automatic mode?
anyhow - blank field spam does seem to figure in breaking mail's junk filtering. Are you able to create a rule using the applescript linked to in my previous post?. If so - create one & put it at the top of the rule list to weed out any blank subject mail.
    Still a problem?
quit & restart mail - make sure junk filtering is enabled
    delete/empty the junk folder.
Find the mail in your inbox that's marked as junk & move it to the junk folder ( select them all & drag , or messages-move from the menu )
In the junk box, pick one of the moved messages & click 'not junk' - does it get moved back to the inbox? is it still marked as junk (assuming it did move back...)
If clicking 'not junk' isn't behaving - select all the messages & move/drag them back to the inbox. Are they still marked as junk? (hopefully not)
Repeat above with the 'sent' mailbox.
Disable junk filtering in mail prefs
quit mail & open it again
    re-enable junk filtering
    Any better?.....
If you're still having problems - make a note of all your rules ( you 'might' have to re-enter them)
    Quit mail
find the folder ~/library/Mail & drag a copy of the folder to the desktop (mouse + Alt) . Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/library/preferences/ & drag a copy of that to the desktop too.
These copies enable you to restore your mail to exactly as it is now - in case anything went wrong in the next stage. NOT that I expect it to, having tried all these things on my own mail installation......
Make sure mail is not running.
go into the original ~/library/Mail/ folder & trash these two files - LSMMap2 and MessageRules.plist
start Mail , go to prefs & make sure that junk filter is enabled for your account(s)
Send a message & see if it's marked as junk.
If you had a lot of rules & don't want to re-enter them manually - you can try quitting mail, replacing the MessageRules.plist file in the real Mail folder with the one from the copy made earlier & re-starting Mail.
If sent/junk is fixed - remember it may break again with a blank field email.
Sorry to write so much - but remember, I don't have the problem- so I can't test to see exactly what might fix it & just tell you the good bits.

  • Help with focus on Canon 5d mark iii

the answer to my question is probably pitifully obvious so i acknowledge my limits
I'm having a terrible time focusing with my canon 5d mark iii.  i primarily use a 35mm 1.4L and an 85mm 1.2L, and use back button focus with ai servo mode.  i also usually manually select a single focus square.
its a bit bizarre, but there are days where i constantly nail focus, but then there are days when i miss on 85% of my shots, but i dont think anything is changing (settings) between the shots.  the problem arises across a broad aperture range (meaning its not only if shooting at 1.2 or 1.4i don't understand what is happening, and hope someone can help.
the problem arises with both stationary and moving targets.
i would greatly appreciate if someone could help me understand how to improve.  some questions include:
    1.  is it possible there's a flaw with the camera itself?
    2.  how do i best use back button focus?  should i, for exe, hold down the focus button constantly, or only depress it long enough to focus, release, then snap?  what about for moving subjects?
    3.  should i be using a different auto focus mode?
    greatly appreciate the help.

You should use "one shot" focus when your subject distance is not changing.  You should use "AI Servo" when your subject distance is changing.
Canon doesn't actually recommend just leaving the camera in "AI Servo" mode (it seems like it would be a good catch-all focus mode, but they claim it's not.)  The issue with "AI Servo" is that the camera actually expects that the subject actually is changing distance and it's trying to evaluate that in order to use predictive focus.  When it turns out the subject is not really moving, they claim it can throw the camera focus accuracy.
When using back-button focus you can press and release the button at will.  That's actually the point of it... it was created for situations when you're tracking a subject, suddenly a distancting object enters the frame and you do not want the camera to switch focus to that other object... but then the object passes out of frame and you want to resume focus on your original subject.  So you could press-and-hold... and when the distraction shows up in frame just let go... until it's passed and then you can press-and-hold again to resume AI servo focus.
The 5D III has an amazing focus system.
Canon does have a great guide explaining how it works and how to adjust settings and tune it in great detail.  You can find it here:  http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2012/1dx_guidebook.shtml
This same guide is titled for the 1D X but if you read the intro they explain that it's really for both the 1D X and the 5D III which have nearly identical focus systems.
There's a PDF in the lower-left area of that page that you'll want to download -- which is the 47 page guide on the focus system.

  • Projector that plays more than one movie

How can I make one projector play more than one movie? If the movies are protected, can the projector still play them? How can I link them? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Norman,
    I’ll elaborate on Sean’s reply.
As Sean mentioned you can use:
    _movie.go("markerName", "MovieName")
To jump to the marker named ‘Markername’ in a movie called ‘MovieName’.
I tend to still use the verbose syntax
go to "markerName" of movie "MovieName"
    If you had:
    go to movie "MovieName"
you’d jump to the start of the movie (frame 1)
    you could use:
    go to movie "MovieName.dir"
but the '.dir' is not needed and if you create a protected DXR or DCR, the statement (without the movie extension) would work.
Now, if you want to avoid writing a unique behavior for every link you’re creating, I’ve got a tutorial that describes how to do it at:
    http://www.deansdirectortutorials.com/Lingo/paramDialog.htm
The above uses property variables and a parameter dialog box. It does require some understanding of programming (not too much though).
If you have D11.5, in the Library Palette, in the ‘Controls’, category, there is a ‘Jump to Movie Button’ behavior. This behavior can be dragged and dropped onto a sprite and then you can type in the marker name and movie name in a parameter dialog box to set the link for the sprite. I say D11.5 because while earlier versions of Director have this behavior, there is a small error (easily fixed) that makes the marker jumping part non-functional. Anyway, my behavior in my tut site does the same thing.
