7GB TS_Folder, burn to a dual-layered DVD

Hello: I want to burn a 7GB TS_Folder that is on my hard-drive to a dual-layered DVD. If I bypass the "Project Mode" and just try to "Format then Burn", DVD Studio Pro 4 says I need to set a "Break-Point". Is there an easy way to do this without converting the VOB files ... to a DVD Studio compatible format then create a whole project ? I just want to Burn to the dual-layered DVD. I did not find the manual helpful in this case. Thank-You, MLR

You will need to go back to your original project in DVD SP to set markers that will work for a breakpoint, sounds like you may have deleted something along the way (.lay file or other)
Some threads with answers and also links to other threads all discussing how to set breaks

Did you have a proper break point before when you authored the project?

  • 8.5GB Dual-layered DVD

    Hello all,
I want to back up some files to a DVD, however one of the files is 5.12GB after compression so I can't fit it on a regular 4.7GB DVD. I was wondering if I get some 8.5GB dual-layered DVD, does my iMac support these types of DVD? Will I be able to burn my file onto the DVD successfully and open it easily in the future?
    Thanks,
    Martin

Are you saying you don't see anything like this? It should list the media types down below where it says DVD-Write, as in the link.
EDIT Maybe system profiler is different in Panther, but I don't think it should be. Anyway, looking at the specs page, I don't think you do have a dual layer burner unless maybe you've had the drive replaced.

  • Building a Dual Layered DVD

We need to create a DVD that will ultimately be formatted for a Dual Layered DVD. Our department dosen't have a Dual Layered Burner, but we have to create 2 DVDs that will go to another house so THEY can build the Dual Layered DVD.
The book says that when we format it will prompt us to put in another disc for the opposite layer, BUT when we go to format it, it tells us that the "disc size is too big and it is going to make the image to the maximum allowed size and leave the image incomplete".
HOW do we get it to format to 2 discs correctly???????
    Thanks.

Are you going to eventually want a DVD+R DL disc or a 2 DLT's.
Do you have your project set to a 2 layer project (DVD9)?
When you set your Destination in the Format window, what are your setting it to? Your burner? or Harddrive?
Set it to harrdrive and ddp 2.0.
Then you can have a file that you can use Toast to burn with.
After your build the files to your harddrive with ddp2.0, then open toast and select Data, then DVD-ROM (UDF).
Then burn each layer to a DVD-R.
Then a replicator can use these DVD-R's for each layer.
Sorry if that wasn't what you wanted done, but try and write back to let us know how it goes.

  • IDVD with Dual layered DVD

I burned kids movies etc to my Imac in Imovie . It was like 4 1/2 hours with final editing and graphics and logo's etc.. I then downloaded this to IDVD and tried burning it.. After many hours I received an error and it said that the memory or video was too long... Not sure what it exactly said as it was a few weeks ago... How do i burn it to a dual layered dvd that holds 8 gigs..? Apple employee said something about compressing the file prior to exprt to IDVD?  Im not sure and think maybe it gets to technical here .. Please advise?

iDVD limits you to about 240 minutes with a dual-layer disc.
Roxio's Toast has a compress to fit option.  The Toast menus aren't as fancy, but if you need to squeezed things on a disc, it's what you need.

  • When i'm building dual layered dvds, the layer break is causing the dvd to skip to the beginning of the next chapter.

I would echo everything John just said - especially (and this is really important) that part about setting burn speeds to the minimum.
Do not worry about doing this as IMGburn will automatically adjust upwards to the minimum burn speed actually supported by the media/burner combination.
    @danielrow.
How are you currently setting your layer break please, and what OS are you running?
If on a PC there is a fantastic tool called PGCEdit that is a swiss army knife and moreover something no authoring house should be without.......

  • I recently put a dual layered DVD in my iBook G4, by mistake.  Now I can't eject it by any of the proven methods.  My iBook doesn't recognise its presence, so I can't eject it in the usual way.  Any solutions?  Is it easy to open up the CD drive?

I put a dual layered DVD in my iBook by mistake and iBook can't read it.   now I can't eject it.  It isn't recognised by the computer, so I can't eject it in the normal way, using Disc Utility or Terminal or whatever.  Any suggestions?  Is it easy to open up the CD drive on an iBook G4?  Any help gratefully received.

So if baltwo's suggestion doesn't work there is a similiar command in open firmware.
"It's Cmd-Opt-O-F to get into Open Firmware. Type "eject cd" once you get in."
    That's from nermal here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-176460.html
They also talk about the optical cable and that might be worth checking out.
Exactly which iBook is this? Speed and size?
The service manual for the 1.2 GHz 12" describes the procedure for removing a stuck drive. It involves removing the drive and opening it up (4 screws).
To remove the drive the preliminary steps are:
    remove the following:
    • Battery
    • Keyboard and RAM shield
    • AirPort Extreme Card
    • Memory card
    • Bottom case
    • Bottom shield
    • DC-in board
    • Top case
    • Top shield"
The reason I ask about the speed is that it's possible the earlier drives are different. In the PowerBooks there was a release on the right side of the slot. It was a small bar you pressed with the proper tool.

  • Dual layered DVD .

I have put a movie from Imovie onto a dual layered DVD 8.5 and it reads through quicktime on my computer but does not read on a regular DVD player.
Is there something I am missing? Its saved as .mov.

Yes, it will write to both. Your preference should be what you intend to play the discs in. Some DVD players support and some support and some support both. Here is what my MP says about supported DVD formats:
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW

Thank you, that is exactly what I was thinking but now completly sure.
I did run the Intel test and it says yes next to this.

    Hi
I am having problem in burning the dual layer DVDs through Studio Pro. So what steps should I take to burn the DVDs.

It would help greatly if you would elaborate on the specifics of your problem. Just saying you have a problem doesn't really tell us anything at all ... and most of us aren't mind readers.

  • Burning to a dual layer DVD

    Hello,
I've just finished a project that I want to take to a facility to have copies made. I've been told in the past that using a DVD-R can create problems with the copies when used in certain DVD players. I'm running DVD SP2 and I can't seem to get the program to accept anything but a DVD-R. Is this a preferences issue or should I take the actual Video and Audio TS and burn it straight to the dual layer DVD? Would appreciate any help?
    John
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It could be a hardware and/or software problem.
As far as Dual-Layer disks go ... I don't think they were around in the DVDSP 2 days... that's too long ago for me to know (without searching, and searching is your friend in this case).
Also your G4 might only have a DVD-R drive and that might be why DVD SP is only accepting DVD-R's. You most likely don't even have a Dual-Layer DVD drive unless you installed one later on in your G4.
How large is the Video_TS folder? You'd only need to burn it to a Dual Layer if it's >4.7gigs and even if it is you need to create a Dual-Layer break point in DVDSP to tell the disk when to switch over to the other layer on the disk. Or if it's just over 4.7 gigs (approx.) you can try and re-compress it and see if you can fit it onto one disk (which may be better for compatability issues, something you seem to be concerned about) - you may end up having more problems w/ Dual-Layers and players compared to DVD-R's and players.
    Good Luck

  • IDVD ejects disc during burning process of Dual Layer DVD

    Hi,
I am trying to burn a 3hr iMovie project of a recent holiday trip. Due to its size, it therefore needs to go on a Dual Disc DVD. I intend to burn 8 copies, one for each member of the holiday.
I successfully burned the first disc in iDVD, however since then, the disc prematurely ejects at the "Multiplexing and Burning" stage, (At the 'Writing Lead In' stage within this) ,usually with 31mins remaining
I am burning at 4x , I have 27GB free space and I am using AONE Plus DVDs. I have read many discussions on here about buying Verbatim DVD-R's which i can do, but with the first dvd burning successfully, I would prefer to try other options before I commit to purchase..
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me
    Max

    Hi again,
I purchased a pack of Verbatim DVD-R DL Discs, tried the iDVD route and it ejected at the burning and multiplexing stage again. Not only this, but after burning and trying that same failed disc again, it actually contains part of the project, so this disc is now unusable.
After this I went the Disc Utility option as you advised and successfully got to the end until the 'closing session' section. Here, it continues to load and says it is 'closing the session' and i can hear my Disc drive spinning away, stopping, then starting to spin again (this continues to happen forever and ever)
Any suggestions at this stage would be great as i'm truly at a lost cause now..
    Thanks
    Max

  • Unable to Burn Anything to Dual Layer DVD

    Greetings,
I have a new Memorex MRX-530LE dual layer burner, and I have verified that I do have the latest firmware from the manufacturer.
I am able to burn dual-layer DVDs with no difficulty using NERO. I am unable to burn a dual-layer DVD backup with iTunes 8. I have verified this with two different brands of DVD+R9 (DL) media, and I have verified that I am easily able to burn backups using single-layer DVD-5 media.
Can anyone verify whether iTunes 8 supports dual-layer at all? I have searched the forum and find nothing more recent than 2006, and am hoping that others have now experienced my situation, since DL media and burners are common today.
Best regards and thanks in advance,
    Scott

Hi. I am having the same problem. I have already done one backup and I want to do an incremental backup, but when I insert the DL+ disc it tells me that I will need 14 disc. My itunes is only 6.5 gigs?
    I think it's a bug.

  • Dual-Layered DVD not playing in DVD players

The final file of my recently completed DVD came out to about 5 GBS, so I decided to burn the content onto a dual-layer DVD (approx. 8.5 GBS). Unfortunately, while the DVD works fine on my Mac 10.5, when I insert it into a PC laptop or a conventional DVD player, the drives are unable to read the DVD. Because conventional players can easily accomodate dual-layer DVD's, I am absolutely stumped as to what the problem could be.
I'm curious if this is an encoding issue where I need to substantially lower the mbps bit rate, however by doing so, I worry I may be sacrificing quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bit rate I was using was 6 mbps. I heard one shouldn't go above 8 mbps because older players can't read them.
When I pop the DVD in conventional players the message "CANNOT READ DISC" appears. And when I place it in a laptop drive nothing happens at all.
I'm using Sony DL DVD-R's. Could my problem be because of the type of disc I'm using? Or perhaps there's a formatting issue I've missed.?

  • Dual Layered DVDs

I'm trying to burn a Dual Layer Disc project using 2 DVDs but a "Layer 0 is too large" ERROR keeps coming up during the muxing process. Since then I have shortened the video on the first track (1st Side) 2 times, but it still gives me the error. This may be a silly question but do you need a DUAL LAYER DVD BURNER in order to do this? We were under the impression that during the burn process we would be prompted to put in another DVD for the second layer.
    Thanks.

You will need a dual layer burner
Your issue is (not related to not having a DL Drive), basically there has to be more on Layer 0 than Layer 1 based on where the break point iss set, so inother words you should be able to build this without an error, but will not be able to write it (format)
