8.0.5 support going away

I heard that there will no longer be support for 8.0.5. Can anyone confirm this? And hard evidence would be good.

    A few minutes ago, in the upper right corner of my computer, there was a brief message that might have said something about no longer supporting the operating system on my computer. By brief, I mean maybe two seconds. I was reading something at the time and barely caught a few words on the message. What did I miss?

    Technically, it's no longer supported. From the AppleCare TOS:
    3.3 Technical Support
    During the Coverage Period, Apple will provide you with access to telephone and web-based technical support resources. Technical support may include assistance with installation, launch, configuration, troubleshooting, and recovery (except for data recovery), including storing, retrieving, and managing files; interpreting system error messages; and determining when hardware service is required. Apple will provide support for the then-current version of the supported software, and the prior Major Release. For purposes of this section, "Major Release" means a significant version of software that is commercially released by Apple in a release number format such as "1.0" or "2.0" and which is not in beta or pre-release form.   • Is support for iWeb going away with MobileMe?

    Is online support going away for iWeb? Do I need to go with a third party server now that MobileMe is dead? What server is the least obtrusive?

    What version of iWeb were you using?  V2 let you publish to MobileMe or a folder on the Dekstop (where it coulb be uploaded to an ftp server) and V3 had options for publishing directly to MMe, an ftp server or a folder on the Desktop.
    That being said it is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
    Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ RSS Feed Widget
    All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.
    There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

    However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
    I would imagine that iWeb and iDVD will be dropped from future boxed versions of iLife if there are boxed versions. However, there may be some copies of the boxed iLife 11 still on the shelves that would include iWeb and iDVD.  Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.

  • When I tap a photo in my iPhone photo gallery, the photo appears but there is always a "this movie format not supported" alert and then the alert goes away and the photo appears. These are photos I've taken with the iPhone and aren't even movies.

    It's very odd. I take photos with my iPhone and then later go to view the photos in the Photo Gallery on my iPhone. The photos to appear, but I keep getting "this movie format not supported" alerts, even though I am looking at photos taken by my iPhone. The alert appears briefly just after the photo appears and then the alert goes away and I can see the photo. They are just still photos and not movies. Why wouldn't the iPhone recognize the format of photos it is taking?

    That thread helped for a time.  But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again.  But, some of the jargon is over my head as well.  Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about.  But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again.  Thanks so much.

    Just to add this : iWeb -- the app itself -- is still supported,updated only months ago and as part of the ilife '11 DVDs still widely spread even though it is not sold on the AppStore it is official part of iLife. It runs in Lion and there is zero issues with the app. So a training makes sense, doesn't it ?.
    They would only to exclude the "publish to me.com" part to be up to date for courses and trainings :-≠

    Where will iWeb upload to after Mobile.Me goes away?  As a high school English teacher, I have developed thousand(s) of highly interactive pages of tutorials, tests, keys, lesson plans, etc., that my advanced and learning challenged students have come to rely on.  The last thing I want to do is develop these pages even more without first knowing what will become of my work:  thousands of hours of work.  Uploading to a non-Apple FTP is an option, but then the webpages lose password protection, blogging capabilities etc.  I need an Apple solution...which is what I have always relied on for over 25 years. Using Google.docs would be like retuning to the Stone Age.  Any viable solutions?  I have talked with the Apple Help center folks, but they have no answers to date.  Thanks.

    I don't think so.  Steve replied to an email saying that we would have to look elsewhere for hosting our sites. 
    You can use a 3rd party server and retain password protection on a site or page by page basis. 
    For what it's worth I signed up with HostExcellence several days ago with their Ultimate Business plan at $8/mo.  That's a wee bit less than MMe was but with that I get 3 free domain names , unlimited space and bandwidth, email addresses, subdomains and 24/7 ear-to-ear excellent customer support.
    Within a few hours I had my Demo and tutorial sites moved and up and running.  Pretty simple actually. I used Transmit to open my new server and my iDisk so I could drag and drop from the iDisk onto the HE server. Just like copying from one of my hard drives to another. 
    Each of the domain names can have an email address and several alias.  
    As far as a hit counter you'll need a 3rd party one.  I use StatCounter and that gives me so much more than just visitor counts. It gives me their location,  what site the visitor came from, what browser used, what system the visitor was running and lots more.  I've written a tutorial on how to install it: #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet.
    For many of my sites I've put them in my primary domain name account, oldtoad.net.  So the URL to my Demo_1 site would be oldtoad.net/Demo_1.  Same for my Toads Cellar website folder. Copied it into the oldtoad.net directory and the URL for the cellar became oldtoad.net/ToadsCellar, short and sweet. 
    I had been contemplating this move for quite a while now and the latest round of events and help from longtime HE user and friend, Roddy McKay, got me off my duff and started. Now I wish I had made the move earlier.
    Publishing to HE is no different that to MMe.  You can either publish directly with iWeb or to a folder on your hard drive and then use a 3rd party FTP client from there.   Since I optimize my sites with Website Maestro I publish to a folder and let WSM optimize and upload to the server.
    Since we have a year before MMe is history one can take time to move to the new server and get things straightened away before going live with the new sites.

    I tried this, but no luck. I went to Previous System>Users. There is nothing inside the "Users" folder, so I hit a dead end.
    I can find my new e-mails -- those that came in since I re-installed the system -- in my NEW system (which I did to see if I was correctly understanding the advice), by going to Users>Home>Library>Mail>POP account name>Inbox.
    Let me add a new question: I am running PhotoShop C3. It opens OK, and I can use it, but when it opens I get this message: "One or more files for Adobe Application Support folder are missing. Please re-run the PhotoShop installer."
    I don't like re-installing working programs if I can avoid it, because it always seems to lead to other issues. Any idea what files are missing, and where it/they might be in the Previous System folder?

    I've been experimenting with JMS clustering and foreign providers under WebLogic
    8.1. But I keep running into this problem: The JNDI tree goes away! When I right
    click the server and select JNDI tree, the new screen only shows the name of
    my
    server at the top. Rebooting the server does not fix the problem. Has anybody
    else run into this??

    This bug was acknowledged by BEA support, but I was able to fix it by putting the
    proper Sonic classes in my startWebLogic.sh script.

  • App Store notifications not going away - what to do?

    iPhone 3Gs.  App Store on the phone shows three apps in need of updating, but those apps have been updated in iTunes, and the phone has synched several times since then.  Why are the notifications not going away, and is ther a way to sort this out (without having to update the apps on the phone - they are on different accounts, and it is a pain to have to log in again for each app).

    Apple has had an issue earlier with the iTunes Store and various aspects of it's operation. It's mentioned here:

    It may take awhile for it to totally clear though.
    In the meantime, try the following: Shut down the App Store/ iTunes Store apps from the Multitasking bar:
    1.From the Home screen, double-tap the Home button, find the iTunes Store/App Store apps (drag the icons left/right) and swipe up on their respective screen captures, NOT on the icons at the bottom. This will close them.
    2. Wait about one minute for the apps to close off
    3. Reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
    After the reset, try to open the Apps Store and see if the updates notification has cleared.

    I have a 27" iMac mid 2011 2.7 GHz intel core i5 with OS 10.10.1.  For about the last month when I shut down I get a window that says "Continue the installation Choose abort if you wish to cancel the installation  ABORT   YES".   If I don't press anything or if I choose ABORT or Yes the message goes away and the computer shuts down.  But the next time I use the computer and then shut down the message is back.  I have looked to see if there are any downloads pending or if there are any updates trying to download.  I am very puzzled.

    Genieo Adware is installed.  Removing it will help.
    If you have another browser installed, use it.
    If not, launch App store and get another  browser for temporary use.
    Remove it afterwards.
    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here

        Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
        Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting

    In 15 years, I have never ported my code to a different platform, nor has anyone tried to port my code to a different platform.  While my case is not indicative of everyone's, the insistence of platform independence is widely overblown since I dare say most of us will never see code moved.
    What's easier - trying to figure out how to write your own code (especially if it is something you plan to reuse and especially if you are a more inexperienced programmer), or using a canned API function that is already ready to be dropped into your code, offers additional functionality that isn't easily available in LabVIEW?    Not to mention that the message box looks like every single message box a user is used to seeing on the platform.  It supports the standard Windows sounds for a message, the standard Windows icons can be included, and modality beyond LabVIEW is supported as well.
