8.1.7 installation fails on Suse Linux 7.0 with libjox8oracle_jpub_c.so error

I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Suse Linux 7.0 (with glibc 2.1.3).
However, while runnning universal installer, I get the following error messages:
"Error in writing to file /opt/oracle/product/8.1.7/javavm/admin/libjox8oracle_jpub_c.so"
and (later):
"I/O error in file /opt/oracle/product/8.1.7/jis/install/ncomp_so_full_orb.jar"
When trying to link the Oracle components, the installer produces:
"Error in invoking target utilities of makefile /opt/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
After installation is finished, some Oracle utilities can't be started.
E.g., svrmgrl fails and I can't create a database instance.
What's going wrong here? I tried to reinstall Oracle several times, but this
behaviour is reproducible. Yes, I unset LANG, and set all necessary environment
variables. Any ideas would be really helpful!

Hi:
I am experiencing the same problem. I followed the installation instructions to the dot, but found that the universal installer (UI) (java based) fails at the very beginning.
I'm still trying to install. However, as per the installation instructions, I didn't install Java. So the UI is only running on the runtime version that comes with the CD.
If I make any progress these days, I will post the solution...

    Dear Rajasekhar,
    this error simply comes, because the architecture of your computer is not the same as the one from the test drive. As I'm not sure, which architecture the N4S test drive uses, we simply have one of the following situations here. Either
    your machine is x86_64 and the N4S is i386 or
    your machine is i386 and the N4S is x86_64.
    Please check!
    Thanks,

  • Oracle9i Rel2 installation fails on Redhat linux 7.3

    Hello there.
    My m/c is Pentium III 500MHz m/c with 320MB physical RAM and it has Redhat Linux 7.3 installed.
    I'm trying to install oracle 9i and it fails in DB creation. The "dbca" shows an error message
    "ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment" when it is at 51% through.
    I have configured 1.9GB of swap space. The "ipcs" command do show some shared memory allocation under "oracle" user id with "0777" permission. I can't really figure where to start in analysing this problem. Your inputs are very much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Vimala.

    You need to know that while installing Oracle software itself you must not invoke any wizard like adjusting Oracle network or creating databases , just finish of the Installation , restart machine and start configuring the network and databases , this approach was very successfull with Servers who have less than 1 G Ram.
    I have installed 9i R2 over 256M ram over Redhat 7.3 , no Problem JUST , if this problems happens after installing the Oracle software itself , it is reported by Oracle that it has bug in this version that happens for instance when you open a shell window , startup a database and exit SQL+ , when trying to shut it down from the same window it returns the same stated error before , I managed to solve it by ( from inside SQL+ ) giving :
    !ipcs oracle
    Then
    !ipcrm ****
    **** = the id numbers of Oracle processes for shared memory realm.
    Then exit SQl+ , open another shell window , start SQL+ and we are back on business again.
    This is all instead of resatrting the server.

  • Path and installation Problem in suse linux

    i have installed jdk1.3 in suse linux.
    when i give /usr/lib/jdk1.3/java or javac it runs the class or compiles the .java file as expected.
    But the problem is if i give /usr/lib/java/bin/java
    /usr/lib/java/bin/javac
    /usr/lib/java/bin/javap
    it runs only the java .
    what can i do.

    Hi,
    It could be because different versions of java are installed on your Suse machine. If you type java -fullversion or java -version (it might be double -) , this will give you a clearer picture on the versions of java installed.
    Also which java or which -java can help.
    best,
    kev

    /usr/java/jdk1.6.0/bin is not a suitable Java interpreter
    Enter a path to a Java 2 SDK (For example: /user/jdk1.4/bin). You can type "exit" to cancel installation.
    There is somebody for helping me? Thank you!!!

    Have you tried to use an older version of the JDK? Maybe the rather old WTK 2.2 is not working with the latest JDK. I use it with JDK 5.0 (or 1.5.0). Perhaps you should give it a try.

  • Jdk 1.5.0_04 and Eclipse with SuSE Linux - startup problems with Eclipse

    Hi,
    I have SuSE Linux 9.3 and just downloaded Jdk 1.5.0_04 and Eclipse IDE 3.1 for Linux.
    I have sucessfully installed Java in the following directory under Linux:
    '/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_04'
    And I also have downloaded Eclipse IDE 3.1 for Linux. I have unzipped it into the following directory:
    '/home/juergenkemeter/bin/eclipse/eclipse
    I have chosen the upper Java JRE in the Eclipse preferences.
    Now to my problem:
    Sometimes it happens that when I startup Eclipse or try to runa java program, Eclipse is shut down with a) no comment at all, or b) with an error message "JVM terminated. Exit code = 1 (...)". I can send the picture of the whole screenshot of the error message if it helps.
    Now I think that this is due to wrong installation paths of the Jdk and Eclipse?! Perhaps there are some conflicts regarding user rights (admin and the normal user 'juergenkemeter'.
    If anyone has suggestions, that would be helpful. Its nasty when Eclipse shuts down while programming...
    cheers,
    Jrgen

    I only used the getSystemResource because it is slightly more convenient. The
    getResource version requires a "/" in front of the filename, as in:
    java.net.URL imageURL = getClass().getResource("/" + imageName);
    System.out.println("Loading icon: " + imageName);
    for (int i = 0; i < 32000; i++)
    System.out.println(i);
    icon = new ImageIcon(imageURL);
    Unfortunately, this still deadlocks after a few thousand hits.
    Of course, I don't need thousands of icons in my application, but the real-world issue is that the program locks up every few times it is started, which is a real drag for the customers!
    I suppose the InputStream way would work, though it is not very elegant compared to loading the resource in the usual manner. I'll try it if there are no other suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    But when i don't give the oracle user all rights, it isn't possible to proceed with theinstallation
    But if you give that rights then it's a security hole. According to your words I guess you have similar enviroment settings:
    ORACLE_BASE=/
    ORACLE_HOME=/<directory_name>
    Why you not installing on deeper directory such as /opt or some your own directory? For example
    ORACLE_BASE=/myoracledir
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/<directory_name>
    Then chown -R oracle:dba /myoracledir.
    Then oracle will be owner just for /myoracle directory and all its subdirectories.
    i just could look at the error details, but they didn't described the erroranyway.
    That's not so true. Error log you could find in /tmp/OraInstallYYYY-MM-DD_HH_MI_SS..

  • Installation fails on Application Install DVD included with Macbook Pro

    Not sure if this is the appropriate forum... please move/advise if there is a better one.
    I'm restoring my Macbook Pro to the factory default settings using the supplied DVDs and the installation instructions provided on the OS X Install DVD.
    The Application Install DVD fails about 2/3 of the way through the installation process. The error simply says Installation Failed in big, bold mocking letters.
    I'm assuming the DVD is damaged... I don't know what else it could be considering it's a clean install and I have no problems installing the OS.
    Apple is sending a new DVD, but my real question is this:
    Is the DVD that comes with the Macbook Pro more or less the same as purchasing iLife? In other words, can I continue configuring my system, installing other applications, moving over backed up media, etc., and then install the Applications DVD when it arrives - or - is it best to install both the OS and Applications DVD on a clean system?

    OK--and my bad for not answering the question you actually asked.
    I checked my original system discs for my MBP, and did not find a separate iLife disc. So I would assume that the iLife applications would be on the disc that won't install, although I cannot be 100% certain of your situation since I am not sure exactly what Mac you have and how the software was originally shipped. I know my iBook had a separate iLife disc. The MBP system discs seem to be dual layer DVD's, so they would hold much more than the CD's that originally came with my iBook.
    I think you would want to have the application installed and updated before transferring any files that depend on that application. For example, if you have a lot of photos, you would want to have iPhoto or some other photo application installed before moving your photography files. You can check in Finder to see what you have, and you can directly download some applications like iTunes. So you can probably transfer the files that you have the application for, and wait on any that will have to be installed from your DVD that is coming.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • Oracle 8.1.6 Installation fail on RedHat Linux 6.1

    The machine was running 8.1.5 on RedHat 6.1 (Sure, the installation was painful at that time, I downloaded jre1.6.5 & linux_81501patch_ee.tgz to make it works).
    The problem now, is upgrading 8.1.5 to 8.1.6. Since so many people told migration is painful, so I decided to export database, remove 8.1.5, install 8.1.6 and import database.

  • Installation (configuration) fails on SuSE 10.1

    Installing Java EE SDK 5 under SuSE Linux 10.1 will get an error:
    INFO - Start core server configuration.
    ERROR - default domain creation returned following exception: java.io.IOException: /home/bantunes/SUNWappserver/v5/bin/asadmin: cannot execute
    The file asadmin has however the correct permissions:
    ls -la /home/bantunes/SUNWappserver/v5/bin/asadmin
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 bantunes users 938 2006-07-06 17:10 /home/bantunes/SUNWappserver/v5/bin/asadmi
    Bruno Antunes,
    Java Software Engineer

    I presume that /home/bantunes is your home directory and it is on NFS mounted file system? If so, we have seen this problem happening intermittently if network is being slow - it seems that invocation of asadmin command from installer JVM times out if home directory is not readily accessible.
    If this was the only error reported in installation log file (sounds like it), you should be able to get complete installation if you simply create the domain manually using 'asadmin create-domain' command from shell. To do that, delete <installdir>/domains/domain1 directory, and run following command:
    asadmin create-domain adminport 4848 adminuser admin domain1
    (if you used admin port and username different than the default ones, provide same values as those you entered in installer). Enter the same password you used in installer when prompted.
    Once this is done, start the domain using 'asadmin start-domain' command.
