8.1 free update fails on my Pavilion 20

Ok so the update on my Pavilion 20 all-in-one PC currently running windows 8 fails at the 90% stage, everything goes through ok downloads installs restarts, go through the system check and all that wonderful stuff and when it gets to checking PC settings at 90% my computer restarts and oops there was an error on you PC and then it reverts back to previous version.  All my stuff is up to date, so I just do not understand why it keeps failing to update

Geoff, welcome to the forum.
I suggest that you run Windows Update again to assure that Win 8.0 is fully up to date.  This is normally the reason that it fails.  Although, the upate is usually not avilable from the store if Win 8.0 is not up to date.

  • Bios update failed on my pavilion dv6917cl

I was updating the bios on my dv6917cl  pavilion notebook, when it shutdown it just gave me a black screen after rebooting. I'm trying to get the bios recovery, I already have the recovery disk created but the Bios updates have 2 .wph files so I don't know which one to pick.
    I'm waiting for your answer.
    Thank you.

Ok, I already tried with both of the files. I already changed the .wph file name to Bios and it didn't work. I tried with the phoenix recovery tool. I was thinking on trying with the hp tool. I don't know if that is the problem.

  • 10.4.8 update failed, I now have mac os with serial number, no version

Tried to update my iBook G3 700MHz to 10.4.8 but the update failed. Software update told me that I could try running the updater again from the Trash which did not work (even after moving the file from the Trash and running it from the desktop).
If I try running the updater (delta or combo, downloaded from apple.com) I only get a message telling me that there was some kind of JavaScript error and that the package cannot be installed.
According to apple > About this computer I don't have any version of Mac os, there is just a serial number there that I have never seen before. The serial number is where 10.4.8 would normally be.
At the bottom of the popup it only says "(c) & tm", I believe it should read "c & tm Apple Computer".
Disc Utility cannot repair permissions on my start-up drive because the button is greyed out. It seems as if Disc utility cannot find any version of Mac os on my single partition. I have no other harddrives or partitions attached to the ibook btw.
The iBook starts up just fine and Mac os works though. I'm using the iBook now. All programs that do not check the OS version work fine too, but BBEdit does not start since it "requires mac os 10.3.5 or later" and Disc utility does not want to repair permissions since it thinks I have no mac os installed.
Any idea how to reset or repair the version number except reinstalling mac os?
I did an update on my G5 powermac and that worked just fine so I can probably copy files from there if I only knew which ones to copy.

    Hi-
Sorry you're having problems. Me too, but not quite as severe as yours. Was running 10.4.7 on a TiBook 800, 37 GB free space. Ran from the autoinstaller and it failed the same way yours did and suggested I run the package that was in the trash. I pulled that out and first ran disk utility. It fixed some permissions but I was unable to run the 'repair' as it was greyed out (the 'verify' came up w/ errors and said the disk needed repaired). I started up in single user mode and ran fsck -fy. This was able to fix the disk and resolve all (disk) errors.
Reran the updater by double-clicking on the package but it fails the same way. My info under the blue apple icon is unchanged from before I ran the updater (not as severe as your problem). But I'm just waiting for more info or a new release from Apple. I don't want to find a way to force this update and end up in worse trouble.
This is not the stock disk that came from Apple, I've upgraded it. I haven't noticed any other problems w/ the computer's behavior.
Good luck and let me know if you find a fix.

  • Photoshop cs4 11.0.2 update fails windows 7 64 bit

    Hello..
I finally got upgraded to windows 7 64 bit and and installed the cs4 download I got awhile back and it installed cs4 11.0 no problems. I got every update to install but the 11.0.2 update fails and I get this message
    "Adobe Setup has stopped working"
I have tried every thing I read, run as admin, move stuff out of appdat folder, reinstall.... reboot 39 times , I have no windowd defender or AV running at all everything I can find on here does not work and I get this error..... I read everyone gets this error except a darn few lucky souls..... so I tried compatibilty modes, it does the same error from win 98 all the way to win 7, xp same error vista same error it don't matter what version of windows this update seems to just stop working, so I did a troubleshooter on it and it determined that this program is incompatible with windows... I tried downloading it from Adobe and tried that... same error everytime.... don't matter if its through adobe updater or direct download this update fails and I decided to try 11.0.1 and it does the same so I guess PS CS4 11.0 is really not updatable to 11.0.2. and adobe suggests you to go cs5 to solve this problem. Except their updates fail to it looks like on this forum....
This is the problem details I get if it helps, because it does not leave a log for some reason.

I have tried run as admin, same error pops up, I tried giving myself ownership and special permissions and everything to the PS folder since the exe is read only thinking thats why it wont update... I ran the clean script and reinstalled and tried every trick known to man ( well this forum and several others found on google) and nothing seems to work, the 11.0.2 update itself crashes, so I am just going to assume its windows fault because it does seem to work for other people....but it does seem to crash on mac I have read too... I have UAC disabled and no AV installed trying this so I installed my trend micro AV and checked and the puter is virus free so am not sure why I can not use the update but here is the screen shots I get....
I run setup.exe as admin I get this
then when I click on next, with 2 seconds I get this popping up, count 1,2 bam their it is..
so no matter what I do I get this error on 11.0.1 or 11.0.2 updates in every mode or permissions you can give...

  • "thinkpad video features" update fails and breaks machine. Anyone else got this?

The update is "thinkpad video features [...Quadro 1000M/2000M Optimus] for Windows 7 64" version 8.17.12.7593/8.15.10.2538.
It failed (gave an error message during install allong the lines of "update failed").
After this, I could not play any Direct-X games.
It also killed my color-munki profiler, so the colours are now completely off. I resinstalled the color-munki, reprofiled and im more or less back to where I started, but without the update.
Does anyone know one rolls back, or re-applies an upate?  The failed update is no-longer appearing in the new upate list.
I was hoping the update would fix some of the external monitor problems, where it randomly will not expand to a second monitor, or the internal monitors reoslution gets stuck at some low res for no apparent reason, wakeup "loses" the monitor and switches back to internal only etc.

I've had that software installed for a long time (it was released back in November), and it is trouble-free.
If you have only recently attempted to install it, go to 'Control Panel', select 'System', at the upper left corner of the screen click on 'System Protection', then roll back the system state to a date and time prior to when you installed the driver.
In the future, I recommend that you use ONLY the Lenovo System Update application to fetch and install updates.  You have created too many problems for yourself over the past couple of months trying to install drivers on your own.

You are right. There are a lot more self-support tools available in Windows

The upgrade is not the 11.0.06, but that is an update. The upgrade is what
you can purchase if you had a previous version of Acrobat (at least AA 9).
The upgrade is substantially less in price than the full product. With the
upgrade you also have to have the SN of the previous product available for
the install. That is why I asked about the upgrade. Once you install AA XI,
then going to 11.0.06 is a free update (updates are changes in the
sub-version and are done quarterly or when there is a critical security
issue).  You can often fix installations by running a repair. In Windows
that is done either from Help>Repair or from the Control Panel. I do not
know the equivalent of the Control panel in the MAC. In any case I am glad
    you got it fixed.

  • CS5 updates fail to install

In the process of updating to Windows 8.1, I've started with a fresh install of CS5 and LR. CS5 installs without problems, but fails to update. It appears to be downloading the updates, but gives the error : "Some updates failed to install", providing a list of all components of CS5. Each component reports "There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later". Having tried several times, each with the same result, I contacted adobe customer support using the link provided: Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product" | CS6, CS5.5, CS5"
Adobe support confirmed that there was no problem with the serial or license, and referred me to the forum. The forums do not appear to have a clear solution to this issue. Some updates are available for manual download, but it appears not all of them. I'm not sure why the product update installer is included in CS5 if it is not functional. This seems like a possible case of a broken link for the installer, but there does not seem to be a way to update the installer itself.

I was just referred to the forum as well for the same issue. My serial numbers are verified and registered. I see here that this is the place to go for unanswered questions. I think the main issue here is that Adobe doesn't want to offer support for older products. Likely, Adobe is trying to force us into purchasing the upgraded software. If anyone has found a solution, please feel free to share it with me as well as I have an identical situation.
Adobe offered that I call tech support. Last time I tried to contact adobe via telephone, it took more than a half an hour just to get a rep on the phone and of course their solution was to buy cs6.
    Best of luck to ya.

Windows 8 Windows Update fails with error 80244FFF

    Hi @SURAJITsaha ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 14-b049tu Sleekbook and issues with a Windows update.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase.
Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues.
Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.
You might have to temporarily disable your virus protection.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Update failed. this patch is not applicable to you

    I can't open After Effects CS6 in OS 10.10.1.
Adobe says to download the update.
The update says: Update Failed: This patch is not available to you.I can't add an update from the Help menu if I can't open the App.
    Blah.

I think it was CC 13.2 ? Or similar. I was following the directions of what it said I should do,
as others couldn’t open After Effects when they upgraded their OS X.
However I went to Adobe and am now downloading what seems to be free versions.
All I wanted to use After Effects for, was to touch up super-8 film that I was editing in FCP.
However I discovered that I can do it in Photoshop, so I’m trying that.
But maybe this download will work..

  • Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 update failed to install

Received an automatic update. When I clicked to install, the update returned this message:
    Installation Incomplete
Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 update failed to install
The update cannot be applied to the product.
    Say what?
I'm at Illustrator CS3 13.0.1. First time an CS3 update dug in its heels and sneered back at me.
Anybody got a clue about this? Bad update?

Ok, guys. This is going to be a bit loose, but may help. It is how I got a failed CS3 update to install. I think but am not sure that the install initially failed due to inadequate free space on one of the relevant partitions. I then believe but am not sure that the retract procedure, which is pretty good in general, messed up the registry 'slightly'.
    - first, the 'this installation failed' was driving me insane, of course. So finally I tracked down that there are logs, and where they are. Translating from a German XP, you will find those logs in: C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\Applications Data\Adobe\PatcherLogs. There's one for each of your CS3 applications, and they are in text, so open the one matching your trouble.
    - these logs get huge, if you've made multiple tries, as they contain every detail. Search for the word ERROR and you will probably find the point of trouble. Time and date stamps may help to locate an episode. There is also a phrase "Patching fails, Rolling back the changes done by the patcher..." which you can look for, which shows just after the original ERROR. There's another message (improperly?) marked ERROR just after, which comments 'Set status to rollback'.
    - Ok, now you can see Adobe's idea why the patcher failed. In my case, it said: "Access denied to the registry key: DeviceCentral.advs\shell\Open\command".
    - Well, in Microspeak that is probably pretty clear, to someone. I went looking for that key using Regedit search, helped by the cue a few lines above in the log saying "Regsirty Hive: HKCR". Presumably they meant 'Registry'.
    - Obligatory message right now. If you have a log like this, and don't grok the Registry well, and know what you want to do about backups, etc., you should stop before even opening Regedit. Get someone who is very dependable and knowledgeable to do a fix for you. Have complete full reinstall backups. Etc.. Better safe than having to reinstall windows from a wiped disk, all your applications, recover all your precious data from right now where you crashed it, etc.. That valuable client project...
    - Anyway, you would know what to do about the one or two key permissions if you are qualified, so would do that. In my case it was two keys which had had their owner (me) permissions completely removed.
    - I mention and explain this detail so Adobe can explain it to their likely installer-builders, who seem somehow very likely to be outsourced and offshore. I have directed such groups, and don't envy the process. But something about the unwind procedure I think broke those permissions. And something about the patch procedure didn't preflight to assure there was enough disk space before getting in deep, which is the preventative side of the problem, or so I think. But I think both sides of the problem need to get fixed, unless the unwind failure might have been in an inability to write the registry.
    - I will refrain from comments I made at the time which show my length of service ;)
    - with all this buried under the layers of 'Automatic updater' activity which really hid any clues, I have to wonder why Adobe doesn't have some method for extracting the failure at least from logs, so this could be given to the support techs.
    - I am also wondering just when and if I will truncate that log. After 5 or so tries getting to the root of issue, I now have just one of the logs at the 33MB point...
    - all this was about something I will probably not use, or much besides prototyping something for a product design, Device Central. But it is very annoying, not to say concerning about futures of a big expensive and very useful package, CS3, to have repeated big failures in the update mechanism. Good to have run it to ground. And I don't do tech stuff for a long time, which shows the level of concern this caused.
    - So, Adobe, please make a better situation for your many and varied 'users'. Thank you.
A nice holiday season to all, long may it last you (into Asian new year).

  • [bug ?] Windows 7 update fails on Flash Player 32/64-bit plugin

    Hi!
Windows 7 (x32) update fails on
Adobe Flash Player 32-bit Plugin 11.0.1.152
Adobe Flash Player 64-bit Plugin 11.0.1.152
with error codes  6BA and 80070661.
Hangs in my update center since November 2011.
Feel free to ask for any details.

Update4: Most likely the problem is on our side, see  my post below.
Thanks, Jeromie, it has worked. [see update below]
However, it would be interesting to know what gone wrong and how could I prevent this.
Also, I don't know how Flash updates work, but it would certainly be good, if I could update from my Windows Update server.
Consider my company: most users (about 250) have weekly internet-traffic limit of about 50 MB (no problems with bandwidth, only to force people not to visit entertainment sites).
Hence, most users will ignore Flash Player updates, just to save few precious MBs.
    Update:
Errors have returned few hours later after reinstall [1].
I've noticed that update process passes "download" and "creating recovery point" phases,
and error occurs on about 30% of installation of 32-bit plugin update.
If you'll point me at some system log, I'll be happy to provide more info.
    Update3:
Maybe the problem is in our  Windows Update server ?
[1] I've unistalled both "Flash Player 11 Plugin" and "Flash Player 11 ActiveX",
maybe I should have also uninstalled AIR ?
Edit2 I've uninstalled both and then rebooted once. Maybe I should have rebooted
after each uninstall (i.e. 2 reboots in total)  ?

  • I had a itune update fail, now I get an error message (windows error 2). what do I need to do?

I had an itune update fail. now I get an error message. "windows error 2". I can not open itunes!

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
