8.1 Mini Player drops searches

Just upgraded to 8.1 for windows. When I do a basic search in my music library (say for an artist) and then start playing and put iTunes in Mini Player mode, after a couple of tracks, it drops the search. It especially does this when I jump back out of mini player.
Anyone else see this? Any way to downgrade?

Same issue here. I know I've done this in the past without issue so it must be an 8.1 issue.
I can do a search in the library, play with shuffle on and press "next" hundreds of times never leaving the search results. But after switching to mini mode and pressing "next" only a few times iTunes plays random songs from the library which no longer fit under the searched term(s). After restoring the iTunes window I can see that the search field has been cleared.
Hope they fix this in an update soon.

Controlling within mini-player clears search field - annoying bug

I've come across this annoying (repeatable) bug with iTunes 9... when I listen to music, I like to put an artist's name in the search field, then just let it play on shuffle from those search results. Typically no big deal, however, if I switch to the mini-player, then use any of the controls (play, forward, back) on the mini-player, the search field gets cleared out and it's just playing through the entire library. It's annoying to have to re-enter what was in the search field when it clears like this.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to fix it? So far I'm just being careful not to touch the controls in the mini-player while listening to a selection narrowed down from the library with the search field.

As a work-around, there is a freeware program that allows full iTunes control from the OS X menu bar which will avoid the need for using the mini player. You can close the iTunes window while leaving the program running and your search will remain intact. Get it here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/ipod_itunes/youcontroltunes.html

ITunes 9 Mini-Player and search option

Before I downloaded iTunes 9 and was running all my music through iTunes 8, I was able to search for keywords and that became the playlist. I switched to Mini-Player and it continued endlessly through this selected search. I am not able to do that with iTunes 9, I search for songs, switch to Mini-Player and the search somehow escapes itself and starts playing my whole Music listing of songs.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I have this issue, both on my computer, and on my girlfriend's Macbook Pro. Prior versions of iTunes would constrain its Shuffle to within my search results when using the Search function in the upper right corner of iTunes. 9.x basically ignores the search results, and shuffles within my entire library. There doesn't seem to be any way to fix it, as there are very limited "shuffle" options in the Controls menu.

Mini Player Clears Search Results

If I perform a search in iTunes (e.g. for an artist), and then switch to the mini player, iTunes will continue to play music only from my search results.
If I press the Next or Previous buttons on the Mini Player, the first time I press the button, the song will also be from the search results. Each press after that (or if I allow iTunes to finish the track) will bring songs NOT from the search results, but from my whole library.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does any one know a way to resolve the issue?

After you search for the artist, *Ctrl click* the arrow after the artist name to see all items by that artist in yoru library, then play and open the mini player.
Better yet, instead of search, simply turn on the browser (iTunes menu View -> Column browser) then select the Artist to see everything by that artist.

ITunes forgetting or erasin text in search field when in mini-player modus

Hi,
there has been an annoying bug in iTunes since version 8 where iTunes doesn't seem to remember the text typed in the search field when it's in mini-player modus.
Concrete example:
I type in the search field The Beatles. I get the list with all music from The Beatles. I start playing the music, put iTunes in mini-player modus via the green plus sign.
Before iTunes 8 this gave me the chance of selecting which album or artist or song I wanted to hear, without needing to make a seperate playlist for it.
But I still see which song is playing in the mini-player.
Now, since iTunes 8 after a couple of songs in the mini-player it just plays other music as well. If I enlarge the player again, I see that the text in the search field is just gone.
I don't want to make seperate playlist every time I just want to hear this or that artist or album, and this worked fine untill iTunes 8.
I'm not the only one with the problem (after a check on a Mac-forum in Belgium). But after 2 bug reports to Apple and a couple of updates (now iTunes 8.2) the bugg is still there.
Does anyone know if there is any way to get this back? (Terminal commando or something, don't know...)

Your solution is fine if you're browsing. But if you're playing back specific material that does not fit into that filter, then you're up the creek.

How can I search PDF's with iTunes mini player search?

I have been storeing PDF's in iTunes books becuase its so simple to use. The new mini player in iTunes 11 mini player is amazing and provides some very nice looking searchs.
However I can't search PDF's via the mini player. Does anyone know how to make this work on a windows install of iTunes?

I've had the same problem as first posted. Tried the suggested solutions and none of them worked. I finally have found somethng that does work.
In iTunes v.11.0.1.12, I needed to get to the following screen before DELETE would work:
In the uppper LEFT corner select Books.
Then highlight/select the PDF file you wish to delete, and right click to get the menu to pop up.
Now, select DELETE from the menu.

Lost search function on mini player

i've lost my search funtion on my mini player, along with what's playing next playlist, any suggestions? Thanks

Click the Loupe icon to show the search field, and the list icon to show "Up next", or use the command "Show up Next" from the "View" menu.
Are these icons missing in your Mini Player?

Search Disappears from Menu (after expanding Mini Player)

Hi there I'm on Android 4.3 mobile using Spotify version 3.1.0.1113. The Search option disappears from the main top left menu every time I use the app. I have narrowed it down to happening right after expanding the mini-player from the bottom of the screen. I can open the app and use it normally, but once I click the new mini-player (the new version that allows swiping to change songs) to bring up the main player screen, Search will disappear from the top left menu, leaving just Browse/Activity/Radio/etc. I can bring back Search by closing the app and reopening it. I have tried other 3.1 versions, including Betas, and this always happens. Any ideas? Thanks

The search function and up next option on mini player has dissapeared?

I don't know what I've clicked, or maybe not touched anything but in the last few weeks the search function and up next playlist has disappeared on the mini player. I'm using OS Mavericks, anyone else having this problem or know what to do? Thanks

With the exception of the occasional Russian and German questions that appear here... If the manual is written in English, and the questions posted here are predominantly written in English, I'm not convinced that language is therefore the problem.
I think it kind of works like this... When newbs come here, they:
1) have no prior experience to realize how often a similar question's been posted
2a) aren't familiar with the "etiquette" of searching for similar questions befor posting
2b) aren't familiar the lameness of the search engine on this forum in order to even get answers; or, they've tried it and come up with years' worth of posts to sift through and quickly move to...
3) ...posting a question because they want a quick fix -- they're probably excited about getting up and running quickly with Logic
I have always had problems with the readability of the Logic manual, and I still find it difficult to comprehend because it's really poorly written (IMO). Most, sentences in, it read, like, this. And there's a wont of illustrations (pictures are worth...).
I think some questions are so basic that they don't behoove a response moreso than "spend some time with the manual first". Occasionally I've indulged a total newb (not to single anyone out). It's maybe 75/25 that I felt like I had actually made a difference to their understanding, the poor ratio due to the fact that they simply needed to read the manual first.
Yes, it's frustrating to see newb posts dominate for a while and push more serious questions to the bottom. The occasional OT post is OK, IMO, but what bugs me more is when they predominate.
BTW, can anyone recommend some good strings for a 3-string backpack-style dulcimer?

Itunes mini player in keynote

After searching through the forums I haven't really stumbled upon an answer to this...
Is there a way to see the itunes mini player in your keynote presentation screen? I have my macbook set up to a projector and I need to play music throughout the presentation. I would love to be able to control itunes without having to leave the presenter screen so there's no interruption in my presentation. You can customize a lot of options for your presenter screen but the itunes mini player is not one of them. Is there a workaround that anyone has found?

If you search the Keynote forums for "Dashboard" and "Widget", you will find a technique for having widgets float above Keynote presentations (and there are plenty of iTunes controller widgets). I have not tested this in Snow Leopard, however.

Replacing low res album artwork in mini player

Here's a slightly neurotic question for the iTunes album art lover community....
I like the new miniplayer in iTunes 11.04 very much. The problem I've discovered is that much of the album artwork I once added to iTunes 10 and which looked fine in the defunct cover-flow, now is too low res in miniplayer.
I've gone back and chosen the artwork over again - usually on the fly when a song comes up in the mini-player - I drop the new artwork onto the miniplayer pane, and bing - the album artwork now looks great.
The problem is that the artwork only seems to be replaced for the one track of the album. All other tracks of the same album have the same low res artwork associated with them. Wouldn't it make sense for the artwork to replace for the entire album with this simple move?
Does anyone know why this is or if there is a good workaround for it that does not involve me stopping my workflow and right clicking to "get info" on the track and replacing artwork for the entire album?

Full iTunes window pops open when in mini-player mode?

I've noticed with the most recent version of iTunes in mini-player mode on my iMac, when I hover my mouse pointer downwards towards the dock, the full window springs open.
I'm not hovering near the iTunes icon, and the pointer doesn't hit the mini-player, so not sure why this is happening? No big issue, but it is pretty annoying! It's bit random, but seems to happen mainly with that downward motion of the mouse pointer.
Anyone else noticed this?? I'm on iTunes 11.0.4, OSX 10.6.8 on an iMac.

Judy, I searched around and found the post I pasted below; you can use your Spotlight searcher and see if you have the Quartz Composer Visualizer plugin in my 'internet plugins' in the library folder.

I had Repaired Permissions and Backed Up, not resorted to external booting.
The problem was found to be 2 iTunes plug-ins:
1. LEDSpectrumAnalyser.bundle
2. Quartz Composer Visualizer.bundle }}

Mini Player settings

I don't like iTunes as CD Player or anything else except Radio. This is the ONLY reason I use it. Usually I choose one station and minimize iTunes to tray or switch to Mini Player. And this is EXTREMELY annoying to do it each time I launch iTunes.
Are there any switches in iTunes shortcut or hidden settings that allow to launch iTunes in Mini Player mode by default?
It would also be great if it had "Make default" option for every playing mode like Radio, Videos or else. It'd be very useful for those who use iTunes just for playing CDs or Radio - you launch player in Mini Player Mode and it remembers your last station and starts playing it.
P.S.: And in general iTunes interface is just awfull. Very unfriendly. Sorry to admit that.

I went to Advance settings to switch to mini player and its not there anymore. Then I went into Preferences and didn't find any options to turn on the mini player. Where did it go in in v8?

Mini Player Location

Ever since the last new version of iTunes, the miniplayer has been moving on me. Every time I open/close something, switch it back to full view then back to mini player, or anything it moves the the middle of the screen instead of staying where it originally was. Anyway to set it to a fixed location and have it stop moving?

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
I suspect you're trying to place the mini-player right up to edges of your desktop. As long as I leave a gap of a few pixels between the player & the edge it will take the old position, otherwise it re-centers. One ought to be able to dock it against the edge so I reckon you should drop a line into iTunes Feedback...
