8.3 Tutorials P6 user Productivity Kit (UPK)

Hi,
Where are the P6 Tutorials (P6 user Productivity Kit (UPK)) for EPPM 8.3? I remember it was part of the 8.2 install but in 8.3 this seems not to be included in the installer. The media pack for 8.3 mentions P6 Tutorials.

This is what I found in the P6r8.2 documentation for the Oracle hosted UPK.

I'd recommend using the Oracle hosted UPK URL's that are listed in the documentation unless you need to host the UPK locally for appending to or editing.

What exactly does the KContentUser do with regards to UPK? It appears to act as a database user, which I found in Support article 1399963.1, but what other functions does it take part in? Do end users use this or do they connect anonymously to the UPK content?

HI Winston,
The KContentUser is an application user created on the web server side (IIS) during the application installation. It does not have to do much with the database.
The KContentUser is used as identity to run certain application pools in IIS and it requires special permissions. It is not mandatory to use this user to run the application pools. you may run the app pools under 'Network Services' user and make sure you assign correct permissions to NetworkServices user as per the installation guide.

Hi All,
I've used User Productivity Kit (UPK) for Order Management, Service Contracts, Account Receivables and other financial products of E-Business Suite. Now that I've switched over to CRM, I'm looking for UPK or similar resources for learning CRM.
Have Zeroed down on the following topics to get started with CRM but since I don't have access to e-Business instance from home, I'm finding it difficult to learn them without UPK. Request you help me get UPK(if available) or similar resources to get some hands-on training.

RoboHelp vs. Oracle User Productivity Kit

I have always used RoboHelp to create help files, but now my
company is exploring using Oracle's User Productivity Kit. Does
anyone know of Oracle UPK, and how or even if it compares? Does
anyone know if Oracle UPK only works with Oracle apps? Help I need
some good answers.

Welcome to the forum.
I haven't used Oracle's UPK but I am guessing it will be much
like the Sun Java Kit. See my site for a topic on that.
Both will produce a help file and other documentation. But
see what I say about JavaHelp.
Neither of those tools are high on the list of tools used by
authors.

UPK - Sharing Content between users of local UPK Developer

Hi!
We have two people using UPK Developer (2.7.4) who need to share content. Both are using locally installed, licensed, versions of the Developer. The instructions on how to merge content seems to be missing a few steps - such as where/how to upload the content files to a shared space (drive, website, etc).
The PDF references *.tpc files but neither person has these file types anywhere on their drives. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A *.tpc file is the file type that is generated when you select Standalone Topic when you publish content.
If user A publishes a topic as a standalone file, and then sends it to user B in an email, or copies it to a shared drive, then user B can import it by clicking Tools --> Import Topic. Be sure that when you import you are on the topic level in the outline and you are importing where you want the topic to display, although you can move it after you import it but why make extra work for yourself? :)
When user A publishes, a box displays that asks if you want to open the folder where the file published. Select that choice, and then right click the file, and user A can send the file using email immediately using the Send To from the shortcut menu. Easy.

This helps me SOMEWHAT.
The mentioned package gives me System.Windows.Interactivity for net 4.5.
But I also need Microsoft.Expression.Interactions and Microsoft.Expression.Drawing which USED to be in the Blend SDK. Why not any more?
I did find the right Drawing and I managed to install it (http://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Expression.Drawing).
That leaves me with finding the right Interactions. Then I got to the very frustrating aspect of NuGet I have seen before.
I DO find a package description on the NuGet site, which COULD be right (it does not state a .net version there, nor on the project site). http://www.nuget.org/packages/XperiAndri.Expression.Interactions
But it is NOT findable in the NuGet management tool. (Which has a pretty murky find functionality anyway.)
And it also does NOT install by the Nuget Management Console using the direct command mentioned on the NuGet site. It responds with "Unable to find package".
WTF?
Now the only option seems to be to download the source code from GitHub and compile it myself. But what am I getting anyway? I just might try that.
I am astounded that a seemingly important framework like Prism is left on its own and is no longer properly supported.

The closest solution I could fine is:

Which says to give full control access to everyone across the entire disk.
Well it didn't help my issue. After searching various websites, it appears quite a number of people were experiencing the same issue, but no solution were posted or documented.
Tested IIS and it showed it was working OK. Can see default page with big flashy IIS7 logo. Made sure oracle database and connections are ok.
One guy from another forum said he had to resort back to installing it on Windows 2003 32 bit.
Well I gave that a try, and still experiencing the same issue.
For a full week I couldn't work out what's going on, until I tested IIS on the Windows 2003.
The localhost default page was displaying access denied. Squid (Proxy server) was complaining about security issue.
Then it hit me. This is an issue relating to the proxy server.
My company have serveral proxy servers, therefore the server I was setting up UPK on, its Internet browser proxy setting was set to autodetect.
After ensuring no proxy has been set and the autodetect option is not selected, UPK server installation ran without an issue.
So if you have a similar issue as me give it a try.
Sorry the post is quite long, but I wanted to give a good details on what the issue was and what worked for me.
Hopefully I could save time or frustration for someone.

UPK 3.6.1 silent install not working

Trying to install UPK 3.6.1 in a corporate environment using Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Office 2003.
I ran the install and created a response file as per the installation notes, accepting all the program defaults.
Now when I try to perform a silent installation that uses the setup.iss file, the setup log returns "ResultCode=-3" and the app does not install.
Wondering if anyone can suggest what to try next.

Hi Jason,
A couple questions:
1. Have you tried installing on more than one machine, and is this happening always, or just in some instances?
2. Are you trying to perform the silent install on other XP SP2 machines, or are these different OSes? The response file should be made for identical OSes.
The ResultCode=-3 is saying that "Required data not found in the Setup.iss file." I have a feeling that the environment where you recorded the response file had all the necessary third party applications installed, so that dialog was skipped during that "recorded" installation. It would have been a dialog after you selected the installation option (it's not listed in the dialog list in your response file, so that's why I'm figuring that machine was up to date).
So, when you installed on the next machine with the response file, the setup.exe was now looking for this particular dialog in the response file, but it's not there. For that response file to work, you need to make sure the environment where you are using it has all the third party apps installed before running the silent install. If you look at the main installer location (where the setup.exe is) there is a "Third Party Files" subfolder, with all the third party apps UPK uses. Install those on these machines before running the silent installation.
If any of these are not already installed, install them:
.NET Framework 3.5 (in DOTNET folder)
MS Visual C++ 2008 Runtime Library (in MS_Visual_C++_2008_Redist folder)
MSXML 4.0 (in MSXML_4.0 folder)
MS Primary Interop Assemblies 2005 (in Primary_Interoperability_Assemblies_2005 folder)
Web Service Enhancements 3.0 (in Web_Services_Enhancements folder)

While assisting a customer to install UPK 11.1 I encountered an issue and a Libraryloader log was generated

Would it be possible to have a SQL/IIS configuration plan that we can share with a customer and have in this plan the minimum requiremnts regarding settings and autorisations?
I suspect there is something wrong with their SQL or IIS settings however I didn't succeed to determine that.
Or if their is a possibility to share their settings here and get feedback on that to solve the issue?

The "Method Not Allowed" message is a very common message, meaning that there are problems in GET/POST actions.
To answer your question about teh basic IIS configuration:
The Roles must include IIS default features and under IIS Authentication you must enable Windows Based authentication if you plan to use this. If you plan to use forms authenticaton you don't need this option under the IIS Role. In that case the basic authentication is fine.
Under Features I recommend also to set teh option on for ASP.NET and especially the option for WCF activation. Without it might also work, but this installs the .Net framework properly. Then install UPK 11 and let UPK install .Net framework 4.
If you installed .Net framework 4 manually, make sure it is registered properly, for example with the command: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -ir

Dynamic TOC

Greetings,
I had a meeting with a client, who demoed Oracle's User Productivity Kit (UPK).
One of the interesting features is displaying a TOC based on the user role. The user selects a role and the TOC displays the topics based on the selected role.
I would like to mimic this feature within RoboHelp. My plan is:
1. Create a button on the Toolbar - User Roles.
2. List of roles display, user clicks the appropriate role.
3. How can I display the required TOC based on the click?

I see your point about using Conditional Build Tags, but nothing was said about certain topics not needing to be excluded.
Can you expound on your suggestion of using the Mini TOC? I'm having a real mental struggle with trying to even understand how that would come into play to address the issue. Mini TOC appears in the Topics and has no bearing on the primary TOC. I assumed the initial post was asking about how to influence the primary TOC, hence my confusion.
