8 character password limit for root on 7x10

Hi,
is there any good reason why the Amber Road/Open Storage Appliances make use of crypt, when other encryption algorithms are available in Open Solaris? This means that only the first 8 characters of any local password are significant.
thanks
iain

To my knowledge, there is no way to do so, short of using external authentication.

    There is certainly no 5 character password limitaton for CIFS. What
    kind of passwords are you using for CIFS authentication? Simple password
    or universal password? How do you initially set your password?

  • Is there a character limit for a field in CrystalReports?

    Is there a character limit for a field in CrystalReports?
    Hello,
    I'm trying to display a long text (+100.000 characters) stored in a MySql database in CrystalReports but CR is not showing the complete text. Is this because there is a length limit for fields in CR?
    Thanks,
    Eddy G.

    This is not a great answer, but you can base your report on a SQL Command, then use something like this for the command(MS SQL):
    select
      case when length(table.field) > 65535
          then substring(table.field,1,65535)
          else table.field end as field_part1,
      case when length(table.field) > 65536+65535
          then substring(table.field,65536, 65535)
          when length(table.field) between 65536 and 65536+65535
          then substring(table.field,65536, length(table.field)-65535)
          else '' end as field_part2
    from table...
    Then in the report, display both fields where you want the BLOB data.

  • HT201991 What is the character limit for length for video or song reviews?

    What is the character limit for length for video or song review?

    One other thing I found... It was still doing the spinning clock and locking up, but it took a while after boot for the problem to crop up.
    I pulled the media card and found that there was a media sync folder under Blackberry\System that had some files in there that were pretty big.  The artwork file was over 150MB and some other files were largish.
    I deleted the entire media sync folder and now it seems to be behaving itself.  No more spinning clock and it seems to be slowly returning to normal.  (Besides all the messages it deleted during the whole process)
    If anyone else runs into this I would say you should clean the folder off the media card along with disabling the sync.  Seems the BB still reads that folder and processes it if present.

    Apart from the Standard charectors which SAP allows you can include up to 72 charectors in RSKC.

    The point of this thread was that you don't need to enter the root password at all. Not the first time, not ever.
    As far as I understand, it is supposed to work like this: When you first use shaman too install anything, it asks for the root password You can tick a "Do not ask me again"-box, so you don't have to enter the password again. If you tick the box and enter the password, shaman add the lines
    [auth]
    askforpwd=false
    to the users shaman.conf-file (~./config/shaman/shaman.conf) The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges (with some nifty setuuid root-thingy, I imagine) This is not the problem - this is the feature.
    The bug is this:
    the fact that any user can add the lines
    [auth]
    askforpwd=false
    to his own shaman.conf file, without ever entering the root password in shaman. The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges - even though the user has never entered the root password.
    This works for any unprivileged user on the system.
    If that is indeed a feature intended by any sane person, then I'm Mother Mary. And that can't be, seeing as I don't have breasts.

  • Character Limit for PDF Bookmark

    What is the maximum number of characters that Acrobat allows for a PDF bookmark?

    Please post what you find with BB10 re: the hard limit or character limit for Contact Notes. If BB10 simply carries over their existing limits to their new platform (which is very stingy), then this could be a deal breaker. I'd be VERY disappointed but definitely NOT surprised.
    By the way, I bought a 3rd party program that syncs BB with Outlook and any other program and it's called "CompanionLink" and it works with BB Desktop seamlessly. You don't even know it's running as you still sync using the native BB desktop. CompanionLink increases the hard limit that BB has set for Contact Notes, Tasks, etc. However, there is still a limit. So instead of getting maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 page of notes (on a word doc) you get almost a full page.

  • Bad entry in /etc/password for root

    I had a feeling that it wasn't a good idea to change the default shell for root. Tried it anyway because I know how to get myself back in on other Unix versions - Well I can't log in as root anymore. Can't even su to root (with or without '-'). b - s from the boot interpreter fails as well.
    What I'd like to try now is to boot in single user mode from CD and mount my hard drive and get to the /etc/passwd file.
    Does somebody has the exact procedure (or a better one)?
    Thanks
    Jim Theriault.

    This document outlines several methods to boot a Solaris 2.6/7 x86 system up to single-user mode. Most of these methods will work for earlier versions of Solaris x86 as well.
    Booting Single-User From CDROM Using the Device Configuration Assistant (DCA) on the Hard Drive:
    1). Power the system on.
    2). Insert the correct version Solaris Software cdrom for your system.
    OPTIONAL: If there is a boot loader in operation on your system, select the Solaris partition as the partition to boot from.
    3). After the "Solaris Secondary Boot Loader" and "Running Device Configuration Assistant" messages appear, hit the 'esc' key where prompted to do so.
    4). At the "DCA intro screen" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
    5). At the "list of devices found" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
    6). At the "list of available boot devices" select the CDROM as the device from which to boot a Solaris kernel.
    7). At the screen where you are prompted to select 1, 2, or 3 for what type of install you wish to do, enter 'b -s' instead of a number.
    This will bring the system up to single-user mode from the cdrom.
    Booting Single-User From the CDROM Using the Device Configuration Assistant (DCA) Floppy:
    1). With the power on, insert DCA floppy, then the correct version Solaris Software cdrom for your system.
    2). At the "DCA intro screen" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
    3). At the "list of devices found" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
    4). At the "list of available boot devices" select the CDROM as the device from which to boot a Solaris kernel.
    5). At the screen where you are prompted to select 1, 2, or 3 for what type of install you wish to do enter 'b -s' instead of a number.
    This will bring the system up to single-user mode from the cdrom. It should be noted that even though there are fewer steps, this normally takes much longer than running the DCA from the hard drive.
    You can then mount the root partition to /a (a standard mount point on the cdrom) and edit /a/etc/passwd

  • How to enable password request for restart and shutdown?

    Hi,
    I'm neither a Linux nor an Arch Linux newbie, but inexperienced regarding this particular issue.
    I want to enable password request for restart and shutdown and want to know if I'm mistaken, because trial and error might become to time-consuming while working on a project.
    I read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … o_shutdown.
    $ ls -hAl /usr/bin/shutdown
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Apr 22 03:02 /usr/bin/shutdown -> systemctl
    If I try to run $ shutdown -hP 28 or $ shutdown -c nothings happens, I need to run $ sudo shutdown -hP 28 and $ sudo shutdown -c and type a password. That's the way I want it.
    If I e.g. run $ shutdown -r now no password is needed. I want to disable this. It should behave the same way as shutdown -hP/-c behave. I want to type
    $ sudo shutdown -r now or $ sudo systemctl reboot etc. and then the password should be required.
    $ sudo grep -vn "#" /etc/sudoers | grep [[:blank:]]
    72:root ALL=(ALL) ALL
    73:rocketmouse ALL=(ALL) ALL
    The user "rocketmouse" should have all permissions after typing a password, but not without typing the password.
    IIUC what's written at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Polkit, I need to edit

  • Assigning Different database governance limit for on demand versus scheduled report in BOEXI release 1

    Post Author: Lucia Chan
    CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
    I'm trying to use connection overrides for universe to assign different CPU processing limit for different group members on the database side.  For those with low CPU limit setting, they would need to schedule their reports.  I'm trying to find out if there is any way for the database to know if the report is on demand or scheduled.  If scheduled, there should be no limit.  I did a preliminary test with both on demand and scheduled WebIntelligence reports and both passed the wiReportServer.exe instead of wiJobServer.exe on the database side as AppName.  Does anyone have any suggestion to look at that can differentiate the two?
    Thank you.

    All the mesages are dated "Aug 13" which is quite a few months ago ! I see no recent messages.
    You have two CREATE CONTROLFILE calls and one alter database character set INTERNAL_CONVERT ZHS16GBK call.
    Were these part of a Database Creation using DBCA (The Database Creation Assistant) ?

    Yeah, that's a known issue with the system tools. No bug report filed for it, though, I don't think. The buttons/services should work properly, though, if you were to try through a regular user and then unlocking after that.
