8 hours straight on Logic 8.0.1

I've just done 8 hours straight on Logic 8.0.1 and have had no problems at all.
Just to put this into context, I've been marking student projects all day, created on a variety of machines with some very bizarre projects, including video, audio, whacky sound treatments, the lot. OK, no comping and no score and bear in mind I haven't been creating these projects, only opening up and messing around, playing back (watching CPU & HD activity). The sources were mainly varieties of Logic 7 but some L8.
I, too, want Apple to be a customer centric company and hate the fact that they censor us, make it hard to report problems, provide no feedback, don't bother telling us what's in an upgrade etc, etc, etc. However, 8.0.1 has been rock solid all day on this subset of activities.
My tuppenyworth...
Pete

No, I can honestly say Apple didn't pay me. In fact, I wouldn't call my relationship with Apple particularly good...
You may notice from the icons on the forum front page that I didn't post this thread as a question (forum posts can either be questions or comments - I can't give starfish now, since I didn't make this a question).
I just felt there were a lot of emotions flying around and wanted a little bit of balance. As you'll see from my final paragraph in the OP, I have many criticisms of Apple and, since I'm in a happy mood today (my second child is due in a week or so), I'll take your slur as nothing more than a tongue-in-cheek joke. However, I am prepared to meet you behind the bike sheds with handbags at the ready, should you slander my escutcheon again.
I'm as white as the driven snow; as pure as it gets; as incorruptible as, well, an incorruptible thing. I'm not saying you don't have problems but I have had none today. Tomorrow, who knows...

  • 8 hours to install Logic Studio?

i just bought a 2.4Ghz 15" unibody macbook pro. i also installed 4 gigs of RAM and I opted for the 250Gb 7200RPM drive.
i am now installing Logic Studio and i chose to have everything installed.
i am really surprised to see the Logic Studio installer said it will take 8 hours to install! right now, it's at 7 hours and 17 minutes.
i installed this same copy/version of Logic Studio on my Dual 2.0 G5 (that only had about 1.5Gigs of RAM) about a year ago and i remember it taking only 2 - 3 hours to install.
why is it taking much longer to install on a much faster machine?

Hahahaha... I went into 'panic mode' when I first started to install Logic. Said something like 5 hours and it was already 9 at night. It (Logic) was completely loaded by 11:15 so as I'm sure you've found by now, don't worry about what your screenshot says. Hope this helps anyone else who has yet to install the program. ~King

  • I have been working on this for seven hours straight.  And I am cranky.

It is now 3am and I am in tears because I just wasted $240 on a piece of metal that may as well be a flipping coaster. I am running Vista Premium 64-bit. I've installed three different version of iTunes trying to resolve this problem. The only one I could get to even open after installation was supposedly successful is a 7.x version, but even then, my new coaster will not register as an option to sync.
I have scoured these forums and the internet and I did everything I feel comfortable doing. I don't understand what the flipping problem is.....I should be able to download the software that is packaged for my OS and hit the ground running. I don't understand what the heck could be the problem. On my latest install, the drivers aren't even on my system. I'm so frazzled I can't even think what to do next but to uninstall, scrub my registry, and start over again. And when it happens again, what then?
Why isn't iTunes installing the drivers? Why won't it OPEN? Why doesn't Apple seem to give a crap about their PC using customers? I'll be damned if I will ever switch to a Mac after having this horrible Apple experience-if this crap is what they subject us to, why the heck would I ever put my computing needs in their hands?

The device is not showing up in My Computer, though it does show up under the USB device panel, and the drivers claim to be working properly. It will charge when plugged in; not sure if that means anything at all.
I did try the steps in that article anyway to be sure, and there is no drive letter to change since the device is not in the list of discs. Thanks for your suggestion, though.
My task manager does show that the process is running, but I am unable to access it-the window does not appear, and I've let the laptop sit for hours on the off chance that launch was simply delayed. When I try to end the process it appears to hang and sometimes will not close at all.
I've reinstalled and attempted to launch without my firewall/antivirus running. I've tried running in compatibility mode and switched it back, with worse results in comp. mode and back to square one when switched back. I've made sure SmartCard is as it should be, thought I don't know what it actually does, lol. I've checked that Quicktime works, and I believe it does, but it says loading forever-however I am still able to browse to media files and open them while it says loading.
It's all so very odd. I'm off to uninstall/reinstall again I suppose. shrug Hopefully at some point they will put out an iTunes for Vista 64-bit that will work without a Herculean effort on their customers' parts.

  • I just got my new Macbok 15" Retina with Superdrive. It is taken over 4 hours to install Logic Pro and I still have 5 discs to go. What is going on here!?!?

Anyone know what is going on here? Why does a brand new product work so slow, even slower than my year old Macbook Pro 15" ?
It's a faster Ghz and more Ram with SSD...is there something wrong with the Superdrive?

wow I just inserted the 3rd disc, 77 hours estimated!
Does that thing work on hardturm? I was trying it but didn't get it to work, I will have to try some more
is it safe for the computer?
anyone else know of a fix?

  • HT5848 Have downloaded iTunes Radio in my iPhone. I want to know the data plan consumption for playing iTunes for an hour straight.

    Hi,
Somebody kindly help me to understand the usage of 3G data plan while playing iTunes Radio for an hour continuously.

First, there is no "iTunes support line". The iTunes Store does not have phone support, and unlesst things have changed very recently, the normal Apple tech support lines cannot help with iTunes Store issues.
Anyway, what do you mean by "won't let you"? Have you followed the procedure outlined in this support article?

  • Logic Pro 9.1.7 + Imac 2010 + 10.7.4 + Firewire = Audio Error and Solution.

    Hi all,
This post is the end of a weeks long hair pulling, to save other people the pain of my past week, here is a quick rundown of the issue and the solution that for us at least worked.
All the software is legit and fully updated btw, before people ask.
Logic Pro 9.1.7 on 2010 Imac on 10.6.x, Refx Nexus, Sylenth plus many other VST's and Au's, Mackie Pro + Extender, 2 Midi Keyboards (Oxygen 49 and Alexis 49)  and with a M-Audio 410 external soundcard running 10.1.3 driver, all working.. only issue we had was when copying midi between tracks into differing plugins the midi would corrupt the plugin requiring a restart of Logic.
This error we later discovered was due to midi automation for plugins being copied over, but that is not this issue.
Updated OS from 10.6 to 10.7.4 by way of 10.7.4 Combi Update. Removed M-Audio Drivers and then installed 10.7.4,
Installed brand new GRAID 4TB external disk (Raid 0 at 64kb block sixe) and connected M-Audio 410 via daisy chain.
Installed M-Audio Drivers, all ok.. at first..
Graid is 800, M-Audio is 400.. Connected as Imac -> GRaid -> Maudio
At first, its good, no issues.
Copied over a whopping 550GB off Imac onto external..  then later on, rebooted mac and started working on music.
Ran Logic Pro  (64bit mode), whilst using Midi with Nexus we discovered the Audio at first was ok, but quickly over time degraded to where the sounds started becoming distorted, the more we went on, the more the distortion increased, after a while the midi notes were just sounding awful.
    Rebooted mac
Started using Logic again, not 1 minute in, External drive and M-Audio disconnected themselves from the Mac.
    Rebooted
Hard drive now seen, no M-Audio.
Now though, even using Itunes or Quicktime or VLC on any mp3 via internal soundcard, quality was.. well terrible. Within 2 seconds of hitting play, you knew it was bad.
Shutdown, removed external drive from chain, rebooted Mac -> M-Audio
M-Audio now seen, sound quality dreadful, shutdown Mac, rebooted without M-Audio, sound still awful just on Internal audio.
Time passes, I smoke too much, prod and poke and eventually reach for the install media
(Lots of shutdowns and restarts in next bit, after each line, also carefully reset and tested every Audio setting.)
    Removed M-Audio driver
    Installed 10.7.4
    Installed M-Audio
    All good again.
Later, as a test, connected External drive on its own, no M-Audio
    All good.
Second test, added External Drive plus chain to M-Audio
Not good, M-Audio seen but even though sound bars showing on M-Audio software, no sound out to mixer
Removed External Drive from Chain, M-Audio now straight to Mac.
    All BAD; sound was terrible,
    Disconnected M-Audio
Playing any Mp3 via internal Audio, terrible..
Whatever happened, has thrown the entire Audio system into a mess, again!.
    Removed M-Audio driver.
    Reinstalled 10.7.4
    Reinstalled M-Audio Driver
All good, on internal or external Audio
    Disconnected M-Audio
    Reconnected External Drive Only
    Drive OK, Internal Sound OK.
    Removed External drive
    Reconnected M-Audio
    All ok, internal or External.
    Ok, Final conclusion.
When the M-Audio (400FW) is connected to Mac via External Drive (800) the Audio is knackered from that point onwards on 10.7.4, removing M-Audio drivers and re-installing makes no difference, even the Internal Sound is knackered.
Only solution at this point, remove M-Audio driver, reboot, reinstall 10.7.4, reboot, reinstall M-Audio Driver, reboot.
    Then its all good again.
My guess is this, and I am probably wrong but it is all I can think of.
When the M-Audio is daisychained the Mac changes a setting somewhere, probably to adjust for high latency, at this point it is written somewhere (either as a file or as DSP bios setting) that is not being reset.
This is why it is completely broken until 10.7.4 is re-installed at which point whatever setting it is that was changed, is reset.
This is all I can think of, I have posted this so that if someone else in the weeks ahead has a similar issue, it will save you the stress and late nights I had this past week.
    Take care all.

I was seeing the same problem... I'm a new Logic user, switching from DP, and so it was a minty fresh install of Logic Pro 9.1.7 under ML.
It turned out to be a third party graphics driver that was screwing up some internal process:  specifically, the dirver for AirDisplay, an iOS app that lets you use an iPad as a portable monitor.  When I removed the driver, the problem cleared up instantly, and I have done 9 hour sessions in Logic since then without a single hiccup.
If you're running a third party driver, remove it, repair permissions and see if the problem clears up.

  • Logic Pro, Apple Loops, and Restoring from Time Machine

I recently had to restore my Mac from a Time Machine backup, and like most things touched by Apple, the restoration worked flawlessly for all my stuff, with a few exceptions. Some 3rd party apps I use had problems with file permissions but most of it was quickly sorted out in under half an hour.
However, Logic Pro refuses to see the Apple Loops I have installed on my system. My Loops are stored in two folders at the following locations:
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Soundtrack/
    /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro/
GarageBand has no problem seeing these, but Logic Pro can't find them, and won't let me show it where they are. The Apple Loop Utility found them alright, although I did have to show it where the files were kept. Any idea what's wrong?

You may need to rebuild the loops index.
Open up Logic and display the Loops Browser
Open up FInder and locate the folder containing the loops as you describe
Drag the loops folders onto the Loops Browser
That will rebuild the index and all should be well.
    Pete

  • Logic crashes / won't open a specific project I'm trying to open.

Hi, I was just working on a track an hour ago till Logic crashed unexpectedly. Since then I've been able to start a new project and open new ones, but whenever I go to open this specific file it just crashes.
I'm hoping if someone could help me identify the problem and possibly a solution, if possible. I would really appreciate it. My Mac is perfectly fine and have no problems with my ram or anything to be honest, below I've attached the crash log. Thanks for you help, before any one also asks I have searched the forum and couldn't find anything. If someone could point me into the right direction, it would be a massive help.

What were you doing just before the crash happened? Did you insert a new plugin?
You could try opening the project with coreaudio disabled (hold ctrl key while Logic is starting up). If it opens, go to the undo list, take one step back, save, initialize coreaudio and watch what happens. Crash again? Repeat the procedure but go two steps back in the undo list - etc until it doesn't crash anymore.
If you have no undo list, try opening projects from the project file backup folder, starting with the most recent, and if need be, going back until you find the most recent one that didn't crash. With both methods you get your working project back, and a chance to find out what the cause was.
Do you use Reason/Rewire? Make sure that it is up to date and compatible, there are some versions that crash Logic - though since it is not mentioned in the crashed thread, it may well be 'innocent' in this case. If you do not use it, uninstall it.

  • Correct way bounce a master mix from Logic?

I've been trying to bounce a master mix straight from Logic using AdLimiter (and in some cases multipressor) in the master output. I must be doing something wrong, because I always end up with totally mashed, pumping and overdriven bounced mixes, even with just a 2-3 dB AdLimiter gains.
I've previously used setup on PC where I bounced a dry mix, loaded the bounced mix to Soundforge (or similar editor), normalized to 0dB, then added Waves C4 and L1 (in that order) and used maybe 5dB gain with L1. Then render.. and that way I got a nice loud "master mix".
I now don't have access to waves plugins nor an external wave editor. So I figured I could do pretty much the same in Logic, if I monitor the mix, so that the master output doesn't clip, but peaks stays at around -0.5dB, so that I don't really need to normalize. Then I add Multipressor and AdLimiter in that order and start tweaking. But I'm not doing something right here, because now I get a very quiet (and limited?) signal, because I have previously had to lower the master output volume to prevent clipping. Any gain over 1dB I do to AdLimiter makes the mix sound like crap. Plus the whole mix is now -6dB or so, because of the previous volume limiting to prevent clipping.
That was a bit of a long story, but I hope someone understands the question I tried to ask.
But in short, I'd like to bounce a nice mix which is compressed and limited to be around -5 to -7 dB louder than the original mix. What is the correct way to do this?
    Thanks!

But in short, I'd like to bounce a nice mix which is

louder than the original mix. What is the correct way
    to do this?
You might want to check out other mastering plugins. I'm not a big fan of the AdLimiter. Universal Audio's UAD1 (http://www.uaudio.com/) with the Precision Limiter gives very nice results. There are also some nice compressors available for the UAD1. Another possibility is buying the waves L3 to do the limiting, but this plugin is relatively expensive. Both options aren't cheap, though, but they will give better results than the Adlimiter.
by the way: Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is a nice freeware audio editor. Nothing fancy, but it works.

  • Recording audio into logic?

hello, how can you record audio straight into logic express 7,i have an audio interface, just dont know how to control logic to do this.i know how to record it onto my hard drive, but just thought you might be able to record it into logic ,like you would recording midi, into a track etc..thats if you can do it at all ?
    hope this makes sense.
    thanx

When you record the track segment you are creating is saved on your hard drive. It is not data that is saved as part the song file itself. It is more like a link. Each segment is separate so you are going to create a new one each time you record a part of your song. Logic wants to place them into a common folder.
Logic needs to have a path to those files so it can access them for playback. It is best to have them in the song file folder rather than somewhere else on your hard drive. When you follow through with setting the audio path Logic will create the necessary folders for the different types of files it will need to access.
When you create a new song file it does not have that audio path. So, you either set up the link/path after you create a new song file, or when you try to record your first track segment, Logic will ask you to set that path before recording.
    Hope that helps.

  • 10 hour long video session a possibility?

    Hi to all.
I currently use iMovie 4 in an older Powerbook G4 and need to get a new computer so that I can record 10 hours straight of DV into a hard drive per session. ( I plan to video the sky all night for meteors and fireballs and extract the meteors I capture during the night.)
Presently I can record video from an analog camera that sends its signal into a Canopus ADVC110 converter which converts the video camera signal into DV and then into my old Powerbook via firewire. The system works well with my Powerbook but I can only record about 1/2 hour of DV before the Powerbook's free 10 Gigabyte of hard drive space is used up.
So I am looking to get a new iMac with a very large hard drive. Will iMovie '08 record 10 hours straight of DV through the night without glitching? Right now my iMovie 4 records consecutive 9 minute long files and works very well. Will iMovie '08 do this?
Thank you in advance for your replies and or suggestions. If my question isn't clear enough then please ask me for clarification.
    Thanks! - Tom

I don't think you'll find many people that have ever tried to capture 10 hours of DV video straight from a camera! You might have to experiment a bit yourself.
As Winston already calculated, 10 hours of DV video will produce a single 130 GB file! That's quite a big file. I'd look around for a capture application that makes a set of smaller files instead. Like start a new file every hour or so. Ten 13 GB files are a lot more manageable than a single 130 GB file. Could you work with timelapse recordings? That would be another way to greatly reduce the file size.
iMovie '08 creates a thumbnail file of your imported or captured movies. That's basically a H.264 encoded low resolution version of your movie. That can take a couple of hours for a 10 hour DV file, during which time you cannot use iMovie '08 for anything else. iMovie '06 doesn't do this, and your video is viewable and editable immediately after you stop capturing. If you buy a new Mac, iMovie '08 is included, and iMovie '06 is a free download. So you can give both applications a try.
Another Mac application that can capture video is Quicktime Pro.

  • URGENT! - Final bounce - Logic 8 + Waveburner (CD + MP3)

Sorry in advance if i don't make sense.
Whats the best way to bounce a track to get it at its highest quality and on a CD?
I have Waveburner but no idea what to do with it, so normally just stick to bouncing straight from Logic Pro. Is Waveburner essential?
Also, if i want to upload a track to myspace, would it be best to Rip an MP3 from the high quality CD file or do a separate MP3 bounce from Logic?
Like, would you lose any sound quality by bouncing as WAV to CD, then ripping an MP3 from that?

    Hi,
a mp3 bounce is a PCM bounce which is then converted to mp3 (and the PCM file is automatically deleted afterwards), so wether you burn a PCM (WAV; AIF) to CD and then rip it to mp3 or bounce it directly to mp3 will be no significant difference. The difference is that a redbook CD has a 16-bit, 44.1 kHz PCM file written to it and the mp3 bounce usually occurs in 24-bit depth. Maybe the first dithering down to 16-bit will add some subtle changes if you rip the mp3 from this CD file. But i am almost sure you won't hear the difference because mp3 is less quality either way.
But i would recommend to try for yourself: Do you really hear the differences? No? I don't hear them, either, like 99.9 % of the people who will listen to your songs on myspace...

  • Logic Pro "not supported on this architecture"!!!

    Hello All,
I have been using Logic for a couple of years and in the last few months I upgraded from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio. It worked fine but.... I have just switched to a new iMac and installed the upgrade (with dongle from Pro 7) but after hours of installation Logic won't run reporting that it I can't open the application because it 'is not supported on this architecture'. Strangely Mainstage and Soundtrack Pro seem quite happy to open. Is this just a case of re-registering (in which case how do i unregister my old mac?) or is something else amiss.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am desperate to get up and running again.
    Many Thanks
    Nick

Do you know what you did to cause the problem?
I ask because my parents had a similar problem with both Mail and Address Book. I don't know what caused it, but I eventually had to reinstall those two apps with Pacifist.
My mother said she was deleting things that she thought she didn't need. My father thinks there was a short between the keyboard and chair. I tend to side with my father on this one.

  • "iTunes Accounts" System Service just used 1.1 GB of cellular data in 14 hours!

Ttitle sums it up. 14 hours ago I activated my new iPhone 6 on T-Mobile, porting my number from AT&T. In this time, even though my phone has been on WiFi for over half of it, the "iTunes Accounts" System Service (Settings>Cellular>System Services) has used 1.1 GB of data. As far as I can tell, after searching extensively, this appears to be a record. Something is broken here, no?
On my 5S (or 5, or 4S, or 4, or 3GS, etc... you get the idea) I averaged less than 1 GB of total cellular data usage per month.
Anyone have any clue what's going on here?

Following up... My carrier confirmed that this usage occurred within a 3 hour window, so it's even worse.
I spoke with a Senior Advisor at Apple. You could literally hear the guy shuffling papers and mashing his keyboard. He had no clue what the iTunes Accounts system service actually is. He guessed at about 5 different things that are iTunes related (like Match - which I haven't used since switching phones), but none of his guesses could explain why 1.1 GB of data would be used in 3 hours. 1.1 GB would be like playing music off of Match for around 19 hours straight (assuming 128 Kb/s).
I had to have been the victim of some sort of server side error on Apple's part. Something that probably only takes a few MBs to resolve, like my Match database (names of artists, albums, etc), probably got pushed a few hundred times. I can't think of any other explanation.
Still open to ideas and hoping this isn't a every day occurrence.

  • LabVIEW SignalExpress stops recording after 20 hours

    Hi,
I'm recording 8 channel voltage using SignalExpress 2010 with USB 6221 board. I have an 8-channel recording step, a 4-channel ToAscii step and another 4-channel ToAscii step. The ToAscii goes to a USB external hard drive. I've been trying to record for 72 hours straight. I've tried 3 computers with the following results:
Windows XP - 4GB- Core 2 Duo:  Computer is unresponsive after 48 hours. Have to force restart
Windows XP - 4GB- Core 2 Duo. Records for 20 hours then SignalExpress stops writing to disk. The traces on SignalExpress stop changing. But the External hard drive is still spinning.
Windows 7 - SI 2009: Same as the 2nd situation except after one hour.
I need it to be stable for 72 hours.

    Hello
    There,
    It
seems like you are encountering a bandwidth limitation and maybe over-utilizing
the USB bus network.  A good way to relieve some of the bandwidth usage is
to reduce the amount of communication/transfers on the USB network.  With
that said, can you use an internal hard drive instead of a USB external drive?
Try to specify the ASCII/LVM file in a local disk instead of an external
disk.  Regarding acquisition, what are the sampling rates for the analog
input channels?  Sampling at a considerably fast rate will cause your
system to crash if the USB bus cannot handle offloading the information in time.
You can reduce bandwidth by reducing the sampling rate of your
acquisition.  Note that the maximum transfer rate for USB 2.0 is about 480
MB/s and can fluctuate depending on various factors.   I would reference
the following link below to further troubleshoot:
