80 GB Ipod Classic does not show up in itunes or Win Vista Machine

Hi, I recently updated my itunes software with ver.8 and since then my 80 GB Classic ipod does not show up in itunes or in my computer. Hence, I am not able to sync my itunes. When I connect my ipod it just shows "Connected - Eject before disconnecting" and just freezes there. Pls help?

This problem is bizarre! I cannot find anyone who actually has a solution for this problem! Apples standard answer is for me to reinstall my drivers or update itunes or windows. Done it. No solution yet.

Ive googled this problem and so many ipod classic owners have asked.. solutions ive tried: the 5r's, updating drivers, It managed to connect once, but now it wont. My ipod normally works fine on my PC, XBOX, laptop and Mac.. but sometimes, unpredictably, it wont be recognized by anything apart from the mac. For a month it would not connect at all and I took it in to an Apple store where they told me it works fine. Its not my PC.. its up to date, and theres no reason why it doesnt work on my XBOX because some times it does.. last night it did, today its broken again, I suspect tomorrow it may work. This is SO frustrating!!
I have alot of experience in PC's and normally I can solve a problem by process of elimination, updating and reinstalling, but in this case.. everything seems fine. My only idea is that maybe its my Sync cable?? Which also makes no sense because it generally connects fine on the mac - and, why would a sync cable be unpredictable.. surely it either works or it doesnt. HELP PLEASE!!

IPod classic does not show up in iTunes or on imac desktop

I have a 80gb Classic Ipod. 2 days ago it stopped showing up in iTues or on my desktop when I connected it to the mac. On the iPod it shows "connected" and every so often the display on the ipod shows moves to indicate it is syncing but nothing happens on the mac or itunes. The only place the iPod shows is under Disk Utility.
I have used different ports and usb cables.
Help... I can't get my lovely new tunes on my iPod ....
p.s. I have an iPhone 4 and it connects and syncs with no problem.

IPod Classic Does Not Show Up in iTunes...

I have an iPod classic and a Macbook, and whenever I plug in my iPod it is not recognized in iTunes, in the Finder, or on the desktop.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and that works - but only temporarily. Currently I am having to uninstall/reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, which is not exactly ideal!
I have also tried using a different USB cord, which makes no difference. However, my iPod is recognized on my friend's Dell laptop.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem once and for all?

Make sure you are running the latest version of itunes and quicktime. thats all i can say, hope it works.

1st generation iPod shuffle does not show up in iTunes on my Windows 7 PC (but shows up in my computer). Tried all the Apple trouble-shooting steps (some several times). It used to work with Windows 7 on this PC. Are there other steps I can try?

I'm not sure what "all" means, unless you state them, so if you have not done so already, you should use this procedure to reset the iPod shuffle

Then, shut down your computer (power off) and start it up, with iPod shuffle NOT connected. Run iTunes. Then, try connecting the iPod shuffle again.
Since this is a first gen iPod shuffle that IS recognized by the computer (so it's probably not a bad USB connector), you can also try using the iPod Reset Utility

like a say though, not showing up in itunes still
before it recently had this failure, it had shown up as corrupted and that it needed restoring (but i was holding off, as i manually managed all music and was hoping for a way to back it all up, to no avail)
first time posting here, would appreciate a quick answer because tempted to just click the 'restore device defaults' option

I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I've had my Ipod classic 80GB for about 5 years. Yesterday for the first time, I encountered a major problem. My Ipod does not appear in either Itunes or My computer when connected by USB to my laptop.
The I pod just displays the message 'connected - eject before disconnecting'. Also my Itunes and internet explorer freezes while the I pod is connected.
I've researched the problem online all day and still no solution. Have already reset the Ipod to factory settings, performed diagnostics both on i tunes and disk mode on the ipod itself. The latter displays the information 'Reallocs 0 and Pending Sectors 2, which from my research indicates that the disk drive on the ipod itself is still ok.
Is there something I'm missing here? Or is it time to get a new Ipod classic?
Would be extemely grateful for any advice.

Do you have an administrator account on your computer? If you are not logged in as administrator, do so before attempting to change the to manual. However, I myself am having the same problems with my own ipod..

Ipod 160gb does not show up in itunes or in windows explorer

I bought an ipod classic a month ago and transferred my 40 gb of music from my old ipod (same model) over to it. There were no problems until yesterday all the sudden the classic decided to stop working. it plays songs but only when it feels like it and does not show up in windows explorer or itunes. i spent hours on apple looking through the troubleshooting stuff but nothing worked. All i see under my device manager is WPD Filesystem Volume Driver with a yellow box and an exclamation point. My old ipod classic connects to itunes just fine. What do i need to do to fix this? also the broken classic does charge on the computer and say "connected - eject before disconnecting". Please help.

Edit: It is actually showing up in win explorer as a Removeable Drive but if i try to click on it to browse the files it freezes completely. It still doesn't show up in itunes.

Okay. I'm sure this has been posted somewhere before, but I don't have time to surf through all those posts, so here's my problem. I had an old MacBook with an iTunes account and my iPod Classic would sync up to it just fine. Now I am using someone else's iMac and my iPod will not show up in iTunes. The iMac recognizes my iPod; the icon for it will show up on the desktop. iTunes also somehow recognizes my iPod, because when I hook it to the usb, iTunes automatically opens up. I have tried uninstalling iTunes and re-installing it (twice) via the steps you get from Apple support. I've also tried misc. other tips apple gives you, and to no avail. I'm tired of trying the same old thing- nothing ever works!! Any suggestions???? Thanks!

Ipod icon does not show up in ITUNES...EVER!

Someone please help me...
the ipod icon that used to be in the itunes menu no longer shows up. i can no longer update my ipod or view the songs that are already on my ipod in itunes.
i have already removed the entire program from my computer and reinstalled it twice. that did not help. i used different usb ports... that has also not helped. i even installed the software on a different computer with the same results. i have downloaded the new updates for both itunes and the ipod updater and still nothing. i have looked under "my computer" to see if it's recognized... it's not. i have done just about everything short of resetting my nano. i really don't want to do this because if it doesn't work, then i won't have any use of my nano.
it is still able to charge and i can still play the music already on it.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I have the same problem with my computer at home. I bought 2 Ipod nanos, 1 for me and 1 for my husband. I have my nano on my computer at work with no problems. Now I have a Dell computer at home, and that where I had the problem with my husband. I was working fine yesterday, we down loaded some music, then last night he got back on to download, and it would not recongize the ipod. The itunes no long would update anything, and the Do Not Remove stayed on forever. It ended up wiping out and resetting his ipod to the original form. Now the itunes will not bring up his ipod anymore. We have uninstalled everything, and reinstalled everything and the it still wont recongize the ipod. I dont know what to do or what I am doing wrong. It is driving me crazy. Can I attact his Ipod to my computer at work? Or Can an Ipod get a worm or virus? Maybe that what his has?
