800w keyguard, is there a better one?

The keyguard is too easily defeated. I keep mine in my pocket and frequently find that the phone is off in some menu, making unintended changes. Two presses of the biggest button on the thing is not a good way; can it be switched to require a different key for the second press?

I use a belt case because otherwise lint gets in all the crevices.
Take a look at Slide 2 Unlock 2 (S2U2), a program that adds a graphical finger slider to unlock the phone, akin to the one on the iPhone. I think that would be pretty difficult to trigger accidentally in your pocket. I don't know whether it runs on the less common 320x320 screen on the Treo 800w/Pro, but Samsung also is using that resolution now, so hopefully the program has been updated to handle it.

    I went to my local Apple store last weekend with a similar issue on my 2007 C2D MBP and they quoted me a price of around £60 (excluding VAT) to replace the optical drive. That's about the same price as the external optical drive a bought for my RMBP.
    Alternatively you could just buy a 3rd party external drive if you want to save cash but note that the external Apple superdrive is not compatible with MacBooks with built in optical drives.

  • Arris NVG589 Modem: ATTs Best?? OR is there a better one on the Market??

    To start, Im not a total tech saavy person but i know enough to b dangerous.  I currently have the Arris NVG589 and we have wireless signal problems and also pixelation on our TV service on ALL of our TVs (Wireless or ethernet).  I have read that there is such a problem between these modems and picture quality on this board.  We have had ATT here numerous times and they have replaced lines did this or did that to improve signal and picture quality to no avail.  Ive also had the main board replaced (Not cheap but, under warranty) on my 65" Toshiba tv initially thinking it was a tv problem and only related to that tv, only to find out it was ALL our Tvs in the house, and all are less than 2 years old. So it goes back to the "Modem" issue again and replacement.   Is the Arris NVG589 the most current model that ATT offers?  Is there a better one on the market that could possibly alleviate these problems?  Oh, I have a 1200 square ft. house, so coverage area for wireless isnt the problem because its so small.  Thank you so much for any anticipated help in solving this mystery.

    I would send a PM to and ask for them to send you a new modem. If you're lucky, you'll get a NVG599, but it will probably be another NVG589.

  • Spell checker is really dated. Isn't there a better one available?

    Spellcheckers for the BlackBerrys for example are a lot more intelligent than the ones found in the Office suite. Is there not an add-in or something?

    Those are apostrophes, not hyphens.
    This is a function of the grammar checker which is related to the spelling checker but is not the same tool. Check which rules you are using for your grammar checker in Word.
    Word picks up youre as a spelling problem, as does this forum. It does not presume to know whether you mean you're or your, though. If you use your when you should have you're, though, my grammar check will pick that up.
    Could you give an example where the computer should know from context that you want "we'll" rather than "well?" I especially would be interested in one that your Blackberry picks up.
    I've seen what contextual auto-correction does on my smart phone, and it is scary, not in a good way. I consider it dangerous. AutoCorrect errors have been the subject of many a humorous post on Facebook.

  • Is the codec I'm using OK or is there a better one?

    I put together a weekly sports program that is very popular in our area. Been doing this for over 21 years on local cable. I just started putting it on the web. I am using an iWeb template for the site for ease of use so go easy on me. The video looks OK but could it look better? I shoot 720p 60, edit ProRes LT and then export using the iPhone preset. I would like the video to be a little larger but I am sure the files will be too large to stream. Any thoughts? If you would take just a few minutes to check out the website I would really appreciate it. www.northcoastgameoftheweek.com Thanks again to everyone on the forums.

  • Is there a routine one can use to shift the column of data by one each time the loop index increments? In other words, increment the columns that the data is being saved by using the index?

    The device, an Ocean Optics spectrometer in columns of about 9000 cells.I'm saving this as a lvm file using the "write to measurement file.vi". But it doesn't give me the flexibility as far as I can tell.
    I need to move the column by the index of the for loop, so that when i = n, the data will take up the n+1 column. (the 1st column is used for wavelength). How do I use the "write to spreadsheet file.vi" to do this? Also, if I use the "write to spreadsheet file.vi", is there a way one can increment the file name, so that the data isn't written over. I like what "write to measurement file.vi" does.
    I'd really appreciate any help someone can give me. I'm a novice at this, so the greater the detail, the better. Thanks!!!

    You cannot write one column at a time to a spreadsheet file, because a file is arranged linearly and adding a column would need to move (=read and rewwrite elsewhere) almost all existing elements to interlace the new data. You can only append new rows without having to touch the already written data.
    Fields typically don't have fixed width. An exception would be binary files that are pre-allocated at the final size. In this case you can write columns by setting the file positions for each element. It still will be very inefficient.
    What you could do is append rows until all data is written, the read, transpose, and write back the final file.
    What you also could to is build the final array in a shift register and write the entire things to file at once after all data is present.

  • Is there a better option than spark VideoDisplay with AV syncing capabilities

    We have developed an AIR application that involves syncing multiple audio tracks with a video track.  We are using the Spark VideoDisplay component for video and the Flash SoundChannel object for audio.  We are having trouble keeping the audio synced with the video.  Is there a better component to use for this?  Is there some technique to keeping audio and video synced in Flash/AIR?

    Andrea,
    Your sample does not look like being »foot-intensive«, I only find two footnotes. And those will not be a problem for FrameMaker.
    For 2-column text layout FrameMaker (as InDesign) gives you the option to create one text frame set to have two columns, or create two connected text frames, each of them one column. To keep the footnote in the original column, you would use the latter method. More information can be found in the online help:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/WS6C3D24E6-2965-48bb-B6CF-50D1439AEB01.html
    Regarding other elements of the sample pages I don’t see any stumbling blocks. Just be aware that the general approach to layout, and especially when using XML-structured documents, is completely different from InDesign. With InDesign you just move all the frames wherever and whenever you want. With FrameMaker you plan ahead, create master pages and paragraph styles and then follow this original design. Creating layout changes »on the fly« is just not the way you work in FrameMaker. But this limitation is the reason for a higher layout consistency.

I went down to my closest apple store and the floor assistant informed me that there was no one there to help me with me problem, what a waste of time, money and fuel, now i have had the problem nealry 5 months and am relutant to go back to be turned away again, i dont even know if i am covered to get it fixed? Is there a more simple way i can sent my ipod away to get fix? but then again thats more money wasted on postage!can someone please advise the best thing to do?

  • Is There a Better Way to Work in the Marker List Window?

    Is there a better way to sequentially listen to phrases one-by-one in the Marker List window? What I'm doing is Auto-Marking one single long file to break out 271 bits and save each as their own file. It's WAY faster than copying and pasting bits into new files and "saving as" 217 times.
    BUT, after Auto-Marking, I have 300-400 phrases to listen to, deleting the non-keepers as I go, until I'm left with my "keeper" 271 marked phrases. But it's so tedious to move from phrase-to-phase. I have to double-click each one before I can hear it (you can move the cursor with the down-arrow, but it won't actually select the audio). So I have to use the mouse (unless I'm missing something) and double-click each of the hundreds of phrases. Then whenever I delete one (which I'll have to do about a hundred times or more to get rid of bad takes, alternates, etc.), inexplicably the cursor jumps way up the list so you have to scroll back down dozens of files to get to where you were. It took me 35 minutes to do it this last time.
    Contrast that with Reaper's audition/preview functionality (which, ironically, AA has also, but only for files already saved into a folder). Once I had all the files saved into a folder, I QC'd all 217 files in Reaper and MAN what a difference! All I had to do was use the "down" arrow to advance to the next file AND have it play automatically (Audition can do the same thing with the "Open File" feature). It literally took me 5 minutes to check all 217 files that way. If AA could add that kind of functionality to the Marker List window, or if I'm just completely missing something (very possible) I would REALLY be happy.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks again! Happy New Years again!
    Ken

    Wild Duck,
    That doesn't quite do what I need. My end-product is 271 (used to be 116) separate files created from one large file. That large one is made up of WAY more than 271 (the VO actor records different versions of some commands, makes mistakes, etc.).
    So I need the ability to listen to each marker, and then be able to delete it if need be.
    The Playlist makes this impossible in two ways. It only has 2 options for hearing each marker, and neither option allows me to delete that marker after I've heard it. It either plays them all back-to-back without stopping, or it plays each as you click the "Move Down" button. That last one would be great if showed me which marker was playing! But it doesn't, so there is no way for me to know which marker number I just heard, nor can I delete that marker after I hear it.
    Sigh.
    Thanks for the tip though:).

  • Is there a better way to do this projection/aggregate query?

    Hi,
    Summary:
    Can anyone offer advice on how best to use JDO to perform
    projection/aggregate queries? Is there a better way of doing what is
    described below?
    Details:
    The web application I'm developing includes a GUI for ad-hoc reports on
    JDO's. Unlike 3rd party tools that go straight to the database we can
    implement business rules that restrict access to objects (by adding extra
    predicates) and provide extra calculated fields (by adding extra get methods
    to our JDO's - no expression language yet). We're pleased with the results
    so far.
    Now I want to make it produce reports with aggregates and projections
    without instantiating JDO instances. Here is an example of the sort of thing
    I want it to be capable of doing:
    Each asset has one associated t.description and zero or one associated
    d.description.
    For every distinct combination of t.description and d.description (skip
    those for which there are no assets)
    calculate some aggregates over all the assets with these values.
    and here it is in SQL:
    select t.description type, d.description description, count(*) count,
    sum(a.purch_price) sumPurchPrice
    from assets a
    left outer join asset_descriptions d
    on a.adesc_no = d.adesc_no,
    asset_types t
    where a.atype_no = t.atype_no
    group by t.description, d.description
    order by t.description, d.description
    it takes <100ms to produce 5300 rows from 83000 assets.
    The nearest I have managed with JDO is (pseodo code):
    perform projection query to get t.description, d.description for every asset
    loop on results
    if this is first time we've had this combination of t.description,
    d.description
    perform aggregate query to get aggregates for this combination
    The java code is below. It takes about 16000ms (with debug/trace logging
    off, c.f. 100ms for SQL).
    If the inner query is commented out it takes about 1600ms (so the inner
    query is responsible for 9/10ths of the elapsed time).
    Timings exclude startup overheads like PersistenceManagerFactory creation
    and checking the meta data against the database (by looping 5 times and
    averaging only the last 4) but include PersistenceManager creation (which
    happens inside the loop).
    It would be too big a job for us to directly generate SQL from our generic
    ad-hoc report GUI, so that is not really an option.
    KodoQuery q1 = (KodoQuery) pm.newQuery(Asset.class);
    q1.setResult(
    "assetType.description, assetDescription.description");
    q1.setOrdering(
    "assetType.description ascending,
    assetDescription.description ascending");
    KodoQuery q2 = (KodoQuery) pm.newQuery(Asset.class);
    q2.setResult("count(purchPrice), sum(purchPrice)");
    q2.declareParameters(
    "String myAssetType, String myAssetDescription");
    q2.setFilter(
    "assetType.description == myAssetType &&
    assetDescription.description == myAssetDescription");
    q2.compile();
    Collection results = (Collection) q1.execute();
    Set distinct = new HashSet();
    for (Iterator i = results.iterator(); i.hasNext();) {
    Object[] cols = (Object[]) i.next();
    String assetType = (String) cols[0];
    String assetDescription = (String) cols[1];
    String type_description =
    assetDescription != null
    ? assetType + "~" + assetDescription
    : assetType;
    if (distinct.add(type_description)) {
    Object[] cols2 =
    (Object[]) q2.execute(assetType,
    assetDescription);
    // System.out.println(
    // "type "
    // + assetType
    // + ", description "
    // + assetDescription
    // + ", count "
    // + cols2[0]
    // + ", sum "
    // + cols2[1]);
    q2.closeAll();
    q1.closeAll();

    Neil,
    It sounds like the problem that you're running into is that Kodo doesn't
    yet support the JDO2 grouping constructs, so you're doing your own
    grouping in the Java code. Is that accurate?
    We do plan on adding direct grouping support to our aggregate/projection
    capabilities in the near future, but as you've noticed, those
    capabilities are not there yet.

  • Flash Player 10.1 vs 10.2 - there is a one global problem

    Hello,
    I'm writing here because of possibly global problem associated with update Flash Player from v 10.1 to v 10.2.
    Just after upgrading it, I've notified graphics inconveniences.
    FPS in my program from 30/30 in v 10.1 comes down to 12/30 in v 10.2, which makes it useless.
    All the 90 people which I was talking about that, told me that's not only in here. They've notify the same problem.
    There was few low CPU clock's (1.2GHz), but the problem appears with the better ones too (~3.2GHz).
    Hardware acceleration doesn't make any different.
    I've finally just downgrade Flash Player to v 10.1 so I can work with it normally.
    There's a question: Will it be fixed in version 10.3? Have you seen that kind of reports, do you know what could be wrong?
    Maybe my program needs change to fit with the new version of Flash player? What should I do?
    Greetings.
    PS: I'm sorry for my punctuation in English!

    We have the same bug in our flash media app. Our customer service area is
    getting lots of people complaining about the problem.
    If anyone gets a solution please pm me or post in here as this is getting urgent.

    I've lost iWeb and thus my web design.  I must start from scratch.  Should I reinstall iWeb 09 and use that, or is there a better way?

    The file you really need is named Domain.sites2 which resides in your   Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb foldler.  It's independent from the iWeb application. If it's not in there do you have a backup of your hard drive from an earlier time?
    Resinatll iWeb 3 from the iLife 09 disk or wherever you got it from originally and then try what's described below:
    In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Is there a better free video conversion program than handbrake?

    I wanna be able to make videos into the iphone format or convert .flv files to a watchable format and I usually use handbrake but lately it seems to only successfully finish converting 1 in 50 files I attempt, so is there a better, more reliable and most importantly free way to convert file types?

    No, there is not.
    There are other ways to rip homemade DVD's and convert, but not an all in one universal converter.
    Are you using the most current version of handbrake?
    Have you gone to the handbrake forums, posted your problem with an activity log?

    The implementation details depend on the API you are going to use, of course...

    from B to C 4 min
    from A to C 9 min
    this information is redundant, the third info should be omitted. <nit-picking>
    No it's not - What if there's a special, more direct route from A to C? Also, getting from A to B to C will usually take more time than the time from A to B plus the time from B to C. The trains have to stop at B, don't they?
    </nit-picking>
    Maybe this approach is more complex, but it solves the problem Have I understood correctly - isn't what you describe just another way to implement a graph?
