802.11a Radios down after conversion to LWAPP

Code version is 5.2.193. I converted some 1130 series access points to LWAPP. All of the newer access points worked fine, but the A radios in the older access points are not coming up. I assume there was a hardware change someplace along the line. If I try to manually disable the interface I get the following error:
Failed to Set Admin Status of AP
Error in Setting Antenna TypeError in Setting Antenna Diversity
The b/g radios work fine. Has anyone seen this?

Thanks for the rating.
As a matter of fact, I have a number of "-A" (1240) that our supplier sold us by mistake and we suppose to use "-N".

  • Need to admin disable 802.11a radio from a few light weight access points

    Hi team,
I need help to admin disable the 802.11a radio interface from a few lightweight APs. The operational status of these radio interfaces is down, so I am getting the following error when I try to disable them from the wireless LAN controller.
    (Cisco Controller) config>802.11a disable wds2.hyd.shaw.net
This slot is not operational because Regulatory Domain Check has failed! Unable to disable the Cisco AP.
Could you please let me know how I can administratively disable the 802.11a radios on these APs? Please let me know if you need more details here.
    Regards,
    Swati

The two previous posts are correct: the regulatory domain is probably not allowing radio a to be enabled.
To be sure about this you can go to GUI of the wireless LAN controller > Wireless > Country. Here your country (or region) should be selected. Then depending on the access points that you have they may or may not join or turn on the radio. Per example if you have an access point from Europe (like AIR-AP1131AG-E-K9) then you will have a conflict if only the “America” regulatory domain (-A) is selected.
Here is a link with a list of products and their regulatory domain that might help:
    http://tools.cisco.com/squish/648C8
What you can do here is to simply allow the regulatory domain that the access point needs and you should not have any problems.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you change the regulatory domain and use an access point that transmit at certain channels and frequencies that are not allowed (illegal) in your country (region) you may have legal implications.
I hope this information helps you with your concern.

  • Unstable Wireless Bridge Connection via 802.11a(Radio 1) of Aironet 1242

    Hi,
I'm going to setup up an AP 1242 in a remote area to support b/g client via a 802.11a bridge link (all using AP 1242).
Before the deployment, I tested the configuration in a lab environment. However, I found the bridge link will come up a while and suddenly gone. Resetting the root AP or the non-root AP cannot bring the connection up again. Sometimes, when I shutdown the b/g radio (radio 0) of the remote AP, the bridge link will be established again. Following is the log from the root AP.
    Thanks!

Thanks dmantill for reminding me to revisit the antenna and related stuff.
As the setup is in a lab environment, the APs are put on a work bench next to each other, therefore, the radio output power was lowered.
After adjusting the output powers, it works as expected.
    Thanks Surendra and dmantill.

  • All of the 802.11a performed down so many time

    Hi all:
I encounter a problem on mesh wireless system. All of the 802.11a on RAP are "administritivity down" after few hrs or mins of startup.
After i check the "show controller Dot11radio 1"  it shows "Last radio rest code : 49"
Could some one help me on this?   My country code is Saudi arabia.  And Both 802.11a/n and 802.11 b/g/n

    1. I found there are 2 frequencies wild in the list, 20hz and 40 hz, which one is better ?
    > 40mhz will combine two adjacent 20mhz channels, so in your case maybe 20mhz
    2. I check the country code from the list, that Saudi is in -E zone, how to move to -M ?
    > YOu can add a country code on the WLC, but you can't change an access point contry code
    3. In 802.11a TPC option, i found 2 options. one is coverage optimize V1 , another is interference optimize V2.  Base on my current situation, which one is better ?
    > DO not use v2
    4. I found some channels have heavy radar signal interference, how can i exclude them to channel list.

  • Empty .csv file (after conversion to LWAPP)

has anyone encountered the above-mentioned? Flashing the AP from autonomous to lightweight generates the .csv file but it's empty.

I have seen this happen. usually it happens when I convert an AP, while connected to the network. It seems the conversion tool, will add the AP to the auth-list on the controller, but only seems to store a local .csv if it is not connected to the network.

This is the reason why your AP's 802.11a radio is permanently disabled.  Unfortunately, the Wireless LAN Compliance Status (06 October 2014) doesn't list old-model APs.  And this doesn't help anyone.
You may need to contact your vendor and ask them politely if it's possible for you to replace your AP with the ones with the correct Regulatory Domain.

    3 Thu Feb 7 01:59:36 2008 AP Associated. Base Radio MAC: 00:0b:85:8e:ba:80
    what is the problem ?

    Hi Okan,
The problem is that there are 2 different Country Codes being used "The regulatory domain configured on it '-E' does not match the controller's country code: Turkey"
A mismatch in Country Codes will cause this issue :(
    You will need to use at least WLC code 4.1 version or change out the AP. Have a look;
Note Controllers running software release 4.0 or earlier do not have the ability to control access points in more than one regulatory domain.
    Configuring Country Codes
Controllers and access points are designed for use in many countries with varying regulatory requirements. The radios within the access points are assigned to a specific regulatory domain at the factory (such as -E for Europe), but the country code enables you to specify a particular country of operation (such as FR for France or ES for Spain). Configuring a country code ensures that each radio's broadcast frequency bands, interfaces, channels, and transmit power levels are compliant with country-specific regulations.
Generally, you configure one country code per controller, the one matching the physical location of the controller and its access points. However, controller software release 4.1 allows you to configure up to 20 country codes per controller. This multiple-country support enables you to manage access points in various countries from a single controller.
Guidelines for Configuring Multiple Country Codes
Follow these guidelines when configuring multiple country codes:
The multiple-country feature is not supported for use with Cisco Aironet mesh access points. If a mesh access point is already connected to the controller, multiple-country configuration is rejected. If multiple-country support is configured, mesh access points are not permitted to join the controller.
When the multiple-country feature is being used, all controllers intended to join the same RF group must be configured with the same set of countries, configured in the same order.
When multiple countries are configured and the radio resource management (RRM) auto-RF feature is enabled, the auto-RF feature is limited to only the channels that are legal in all configured countries and to the lowest power level common to all configured countries. The access points are always able to use all legal frequencies, but non-common channels can only be assigned manually.
Note If an access point was already set to a higher legal power level or is configured manually, the power level is limited only by the particular country to which that access point is assigned.
When multiple countries are configured, the 802.11a network is disabled for all countries if any country does not support the 802.11a radio or there are no common channels on the 802.11a radio.
You can configure country codes through the controller GUI or CLI.
    Here's how;

  • 802.11a Mesh Outdoors with 5500 controller

    Hi
I am working on a project that will involve 5500 controllers managing 1260 series N rate A/Ps. There may be a requirement for MESH but my previous experience using Motorola 802.11a radios is that random, intermittent radio detections resulted in the MESH network having to keep re-forming resulting in less than 100% availability.
What's peoples experience in the UK is 802.11a outdoors?
Ideally i would prefer to use 2.4GHz and repeater access points for those areas not serviced with data connection but I cant find any info' so far on how whether the 5500 controller is able to manage repeater access points.
Any guidance or experiences much appreciated
    Steve

I don't live or have done work in the UK so can't answer your first question, but for your other question... The wlc does not manage any APs configured as a repeater.

  • 802.11a/n interface in AP1141n

    Happy New Year everyone.
Just added some 1141n APs to our already running wireless infrastructure of all 1142n APs and on the WCS, I can see that the 1141s haven't got  802.11a interfaces unlike the 1142s. Is this a feature of the hardware? Has it been left to the admin to enable the interface if required and how?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Happy new year to you too.
What you are seeing is an expected behavior. 1141 hardware doesn't support 802.11a radio at all and it supports only g/n while 1142s have a/g/n
You can see the same from data seets :

  • WLC 802.11a/n Radio Regulatory Domain Issue

    Dear All
We are facing an issue with a customer where a Cisco 4400 Series controller is blocking the 802.11a/n Radio Interface of a 1250 AP. The radio shows as down on the controller GUI. The error message on the GUI is that the 'Regulatory Domain' is not supported. This can be seen from the attached screenshot. Also relevant parts of the WLC configs are attached.
    WLC: Cisco 4402  Wireless
    WLC Country: SA
Device: Cisco Lightweight Access Point 1250 (LAP) is controlled through the 4402 Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC)
The operating system version of the LAP: c1250-k9w8-mx.124-18a.JA version of the WLC: Software Version 5.2.178.0
The problem is that the controller shows that the 802.11a/n Radio Interface in Radio Slot # 1 is always down ,  the customer tried to manually 'no shut' the AP interface from the console and it worked , but obviously this solution would not work as the configuration cannot be saved (LW AP).
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Farrukh

    Hello
This is sort of like a testbed setup, so can you tell me which country/reg domain I can set on my controller in order to make our access point work. There is only one AP connected to this controller.
    LAP:  AIR-AP1252AG-N-K9
Also as per the guide, we can configure the country on a per-AP basis, would this be a viable option?

  • 802.1x what happens after EAPOL logoff if Port does not go down

    Hi all,
we are using 802.1x machine-authentication with EAP-TLS and dynamic VLAN-assignment.
lets say a device is successful authenticated and VLAN DATA is assigned.
After a time the Device is sending EAPOL logoff for any reason, and is silent from this moment on ( does not send any packet).
So the auth Session is cleared and the VLAN Assigment is removed ( looks like Port is assigned to VLAN0)
So the problem is if the MAC is unauthenticated and POrt has no VLAN assigment it is impossible to send WOL Magig packet or similar staff ( INtel AMT)
What will happen from here on? Does the Switch to try to initiate Authentication by sending an EAP Request periodic for ever until it receives EAP Response or EAPOL Start, or do we have to wait that Client ist starting EAP process
    thxin Advance
    Hubert

You need to configure the following:
    dot1x guest-vlan supplicant
It's a global knob to address this type of use-case. What'll happen when you configure the above is not only will the session be torn down after EAPOL-Logoff processing; the switch will continue to send EAPOL-Id-Requests out on the same port, but based on the lack of response to just this new set of requests can put the port into the Guest-VLAN since the client isn't answering.
NOTE: I assume you know what you're getting into here with VLANs, since you might be changing the subnet and the machine may need to release/renew for an address. The Guest-VLAN could be the same as the existing ones though, so up to you.

Al that is left are the standard fixes:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Apple TV radio shuts down after 10 minutes.  Can not find out why.  Could version 7.0 be the problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Seems to be an issue for a large number of users, probably need to wait for a fix.

  • RRM misconfiguration on 802.11a/n radio

I am working on tunneling a wireless network with the following components:

    wlan-controller-14-2 impa-wireless2 --> AIR-WLC2106-K

    10 AIR-LAP1252AG-T-K9
They are geographically distributed on four floors in the same building.
Controllers and APs have the same sw version respectively.
    I have configured RRM feature on both 802.11 a/n and 802.11 b/g/n
RRM feature on 802.11 b/g/n is working fine.
RRM feature on 802.11 a/n is unable to set different values for power conveniently.
All 1252 APs have been set to power equal 1.
Six Aps have been set to channel 149 even if they are neighbors (same floor or on correspondent position on other floors)
