802.11n doesn't work

Hey,
I've bought an Time Capsule and I like it, but my 802.11n won't work. My 802.11n laptop always takes 802.11g, even if only n is enabled on the time capsule..
Does anyone know what the problem is? I have restored the firmware, restored all settings, rebooted it and nothing works. What should I do?
Denni(s)

Hello iDenni. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It may be possible that the 802.11n draft implemented on your Dell laptop is not 100% compatible with that of the Time Capsule (TC). Are you able to connect any other 802.11n devices to this TC?

  • Question: why the 802.11n doesn't work on my brand new MacBook?

    dear sirs,
I've just found out that the 802.11n upgrade doesn't work for my MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core Duo. How come? Is it possible? What should I do to have it talk to my also new AirPort Extreme 802.11n at the same rate?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Tomaso

Also on http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/performance.html it states:Most currently shipping Mac systems support the next-generation 802.11n technology in the new AirPort Extreme Base Station.2
    2. All Mac computers with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Xeon processors except the 17-inch iMac with 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor support the 802.11n technology in AirPort Extreme. These 802.11n-compatible Mac systems require enabler software that is included on the AirPort Extreme CD.

  • 802.11n doesn't work for WLAN created using WCS templates

But works when enabled on the controller
    WLC 5508 - 7.0.116.0
    WCS - running firmware 7.0.172.0
Clean Air AP used  for testing -LAP 3500
    Anyone aware of this issue?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing that template.. Now can you take a snapshot of Security and QOS and Advanced tab.
ON WCS by default wmm = disabled and on WLC it is enabled by default.
Check 802.11n to see what needs to be enabled to get it to work.

  • Why doesn't my "Airport Express 802.11n wi-fi" work?

I have bought an "Airport Express 802.11n wi-fi" last year. It was working up to last week, but it doesn't work now. I have reset to factory setting but my Airport utility was unable to find my airport wireless.

Try temporarily connecting your computer directly to the AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable. Then try accessing it with the AirPort Utility.

  • Any idea on how 802.11n software updater work?

    Hi,
I have PB-G4 and just read on macworld that apple has released a 802.11n software updater. This enables 802.11n wireless network on your macbook pro or imacs, basically hardware with intel dual core. Does anyone knows if I how this upgrade works? Can I use this updater on PB-G4?
    Best regards,
    Brilty

This updater works by adding computer code to the machine which enables the use of 802.11n functions that are already present in the hardware. It cannot be used on your PowerBook or with any Mac that doesn't have the hardware components needed to use 802.11n on the built-in card.

  • MacBook Air:     Will 802.11n Wi-Fi  work in a 'remote' location.

Hello, could I seek some guidance from Macbook Air users?
    Brief Background:
I live in a small town in Thailand some 320 kms south of Bangkok. This is not at the end of the world and technology is slowly catching up e.g. but no 3G here.
There is Wifi here around the centre of town but I do not think it covers the whole surrounding area also WiFi does is not always seem to be available 24 hours.
I have a Nokia mobile that sometimes 'pick-ups' a WLANs and finds a signal named 'SMC".
The phone says I am connected to 'SMC' and the display show the Wi-Fi icon (not encrypted).
I need a notebook that does not need to be connected to the Internet via Ethernet.
    My question:
Apple tech specs state  802.11n Wi-Fi wireless networking built into the MBA.
Will a MBA be able to connect to the 'outside world' using this technology when you consider my location?
Do I need Airport Express Base Station in my house if I had a MBA?
Does Airport Express amplify a signal or search for one?
Would appreciates it if someone can give me some opinions.
    Thank you.

Simply set up a Wi-Fi router that the ATV and iPhone can connect to, if this device has Internet access that is best, then both devices will be able to connect via AirPlay.
If the router does not have Internet access, neither device will be able to stream Internet content. They will only be able to play the content that exists on the devices.

  • 802.11n enabler not working

I have the 2.16 Intel Duo Mac Book Pro. I researched the forums and, happy, happy, joy, joy, my dream machine should be able to run at the higher standard. I paid my buck 99 to Steve Jobs and Co., downloaded the enabler and I get a message saysing, "Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update."
    Any help would be appreciated.

You must have a Core 2 Duo machine in order to activate 802.11n. According to your hardware info you have a Core Duo machine. You would have to replace the Airport card with one used in the Core 2 Duo models in order to use 802.11n. That is why you get the hardware error message.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler not working

Hello, I just installed the Time Capsule software onto my 1st gen MacBook. I saw that it installed the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler, but after looking at the network utility. All that show up is: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g), it does not give the little 'n.' I ran the installer twice, but no joy. Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

ursina, Welcome to the discussion area!
Go to the Apple menu and select about this Mac. Does it say "Intel Core Duo" or "Intel Core 2 Duo"?
Only the Macs with "Intel Core 2 Duo" processors have the 802.11n hardware. If you Mac book has the "Intel Core Duo" processor the enabler is useless.

  • Compatible 802.11N cards that work in the 5Ghz range?

I want to upgrade the card in my fiance's laptop so that it can be N-capable. However, I also want it to operate in 5Ghz mode like my macbook.
I picked up a Belkin card today but it would not connect in 5 Ghz mode, but could in 2.4-N mode fine.
Anyone else with PC-laptops using N-wireless cards and the 5 Ghz range? What do you recommend? Preferrably on a budget. Thanks!

  • Airport Express, WPS, 802.11n and 7.5.2 firmware - can this work?!

Can't believe this hasn't happened to anyone else, but I can't find a relevant thread.
I have a Time Capsule and an Airport Express base station. The Time Capsule was configured as a WDS base station, and the Express as a WDS Relay. The Express is less than a year old, ie 802.11n.
Everything worked beautifully until firmware upgrade 7.5.2 which self-installed on the Time Capsule just as you would expect - except the relay stopped working.
I've tried everything I can imagine, but I can't get the two devices to communicate with each other any more (even with the new firmware on the Express). I have read somewhere on the Apple site that WDS "doesn't work" with 802.11n, but this doesn't fully explain how it did work with 802.11n up until the time of the firmware upgrade to put it mildly. And releasing a firmware "upgrade" that stops existing configurations working, without warning, is not really an Apple thing to do.
One thing I haven't tried is to revert to older firmware; do I really have to do that? Or is there something wrong here please, Apple? Or did I just imagine, for those 9 months, that the relay was working sweetly?!
Don't know if this is related, but Airport Utility almost consistently fails to see both devices if they are both switched on, but can only see one or the other. Is it possible that the Express has developed a fault?
Please help; I have an old house and I can't penetrate most of it without my WDS!!

    Might this apply?

  • Airport Express 802.11g as a repeater of Airport Express 802.11n

I have an Airport network with Airport Extreme 5th generation (802.11n) and it works OK. Also, I have and old Airport Express firmware v6.3 just 802.11g.  I want to enhance the network to achieve places with no coverage but I can not configure it as a repeater.  Aparently all is working, but it is not repeating.
The Airport Extreme is configured to allow the expansion of the network. Everything looks OK. Maybe it doesn`t work because the Extreme is 802.11n and  Express is 802.11g.
To setup the airport express I am using Airport Utility  version 5.6. It doesn't have support with the last version.
    Thanks
    Sandra Perez

Maybe it doesn`t work because the Extreme is 802.11n and  Express is 802.11g
    Correct. You nailed it.
The older "b/g" Express does not have a setting to "Extend a wireless network"....which only appears on newer "n" AirPorts.
You will need a new AirPort Express for that capability. You can keep the older Express and use it for AirTunes or to connect a remote printer.

  • Will USB 802.11n wireless card improve video streaming on older iBook?

On my older G4 iBook, I'm accessing the internet through the AirPort Time Capsule as my wireless router. The video on my MacBook Pro is stunning, the iBook is terrible, useless really. Would a USB 802.11n video card work better than the AirPort card in the computer?

Duane, I meant a USB wireless adapter. The general consensus is that it would improve at least marginally, but no one seems to know for sure. Simple enough to find out, just haven't gotten around to buying one yet. I'll just need to make sure I can return it if there is no improvement.

  • SOLUTION:  802.11n - Vista Getting IP Address but no Connectivity

I noticed a few threads in which folks mentioned their 802.11n adapters not working in Vista. Specifically cases in which you could get an IP address from DHCP but can not actually connect to anything.
I've found that the Linksys WPC300N drivers work fine.
    You can find them at:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=LCASupportC2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859844332&packedargs=sku%3D1144763513196&pa gename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=4433213196B03&displaypage=download# versiondetail
... or just search their site for WPC300N Version 1.0 drivers.
After running the exe, it will create a folder named c:\Linksys Driver.
You will then want to go into Computer / System Properties / Device Manager, select the Broadcom 802.11n device, and then 'Update Driver'.
Hit 'Browse for driver software on my Computer' and then select, 'Let me pick from a list...'.
Then 'Have Disk' and browse to C:\Linksys Driver\WPC300N_20071105\Driver\VISTA (or wherever you put it).
Finally, select the WPC300N from the list provided.
Follow through with the prompts, and you should be good to go.

This did not fix the problem for wireless N networks. I could get an IP address before(and now), but not 300Mb/s connection speeds. It connects at first as 54Mb/s but then slows to a 5.5Mb/s. These drivers don't fix the problem. Are there any drivers that are not branded as Linksys that will work?

  • Airport Express 802.11n Wi-Fi alternating green amber light

Apparent power surge causes AirPort Express 802.11n to not work correctly. Has alternating Green, Green, Amber light. How do I restore notmal functions?

As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset to see if that might help.
Power off the Express for a minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it for another 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Express
Release the reset  button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
At this point, you want to see a slow, blinking amber light, which is an indicatation that the Express has been reset and can now be reconfigured.
If after a few tries with the Factory Default Reset the Express still displays an alternating amber and green light, the Express has been damaged and will need to be replaced.

  • Airport Express 802.11n does not support 5 ghz range

I have a Airport Extreme and a Airport Express both are 802.11n. I have the Airport Extreme setup to 802.11n (5ghz only). The Airport Express 802.11n will not work in the 5ghz range no matter what I do.
If I change the Extreme to 802.11n (2.4 ghz only), and set the Express to 802.11n 2.4ghz, it works fine.
Both systems have been upgraded to the 5.3.1 firmware.
Apple claims the Express works in the 5ghz range. The unit I have does not..so what is the deal?
    Steve

I finally got this to work at 5ghz.
    BUT,
The Airport Utility that supports the Express is less then great. There is no manual option to set the Express at 5ghz as a client. I assume that Apple will fix this soon.
I also had the problem described in several places in this Discussion group, that the Express becomes un-available after changing the config. I finally just restored it to the default, unplugged it and let it sit overnight. Then I reprogrammed it, saved it, verified it works, then let it sit all day with out unplugging it. I then unplugged it and moved it to the location I wanted it at so I could stream music, and it worked fine at 802.11n/5ghz.
