802.11n enabler issue

Hi,
1st time MAc user after 15 years of PC. So forgive me for any terminology screw ups. Got a Mac Book Pro, 2.33 Ghz Duo 2 Core. So I tried downloading the enabler and it give me the incorrect hardware error message. I guess how do I double check that I have a core 2 duo? My box says it, the Apple website says it when I put in serial #, but when I go to "About this Mac" it just says "Processor 2.16 GHZ Intel Core Duo" in that section. So did I get jacked (bought from a reseller) or will it not say Duo 2 Core in the about this mac section?

Sorry, but you have a "Core Duo"... not a "Core 2 Duo".

802.11n Enabler does not work!

I have a MacBookPro with Core Duo. I bought an AirportExtreme Basestation and installed the software... it showed me that it also installed the 802.11n Enabler. BUT: when I go to the network utility program and select "en1" it still only shows a/b/g compatibility. I re-installed a few time, but it wouldn't change.
This, of course, has also the effect that when selecting the 5GHz 802.11n at the basestation, my computer wouldn't find the basestation at all (have to reset it afterwards).

The 802.11n enabler works in Macs with the Core 2 Duo processors, not the Core Duo. I understand that you can upgrade the wireless card by buying a replacement from Apple.
There are other threads here that describe doing this.

802.11n* Enabler will not install

hey guys.
I have purchased my copy of the 802.11n* Enabler for my 20" iMac Core 2 Duo 2GHz, but I keep getting a message saying "Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update.".
My iMac meets all of the requirments as far as I know (Leopard 15.5)
I also tried installing it on my Macbook (Tiger 14.9) but I get the same message.
any thoughts as to why this is and how I can fix it??

Airport Extreme refers to my wireless card build it right, and not my router (which is not an airport, but is an "n").
Apple uses the term "AirPort Extreme" for the built-in wireless on the newer Macs so it tends to get confusing when they use the same term for their base stations. In this case, the "n" enabler is a firmware update to the built-in AirPort Extreme in your iMac. Similarly the "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002" is a software update for this same built-in device. All firmware updates to the base station itself are done through the AirPort Utility.
I'm not sure why you are having difficulty updating your iMac as it appears, according to your description, to be eligible. To double-check, that it may already be installed take a look at this Apple article: How to tell if 802.11n-enabling software is installed

802.11n enabler not installing on Leopard

MACBOOK PRO getting error (after re-purchasing the 2 dollar 802.11n enabler) on Leopard
Tried to install and it tells me cannot install on this hard drive

If you have Leopard installed, the enabler must be included in the install because I followed the directions listed on that page...
+Before purchasing the 802.11n Enabler software, please check to make sure that your Mac does not already have the 802.11n enabler already installed.+
+Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder)+
+Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1)+
+In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed.+
I looked and mine says a/b/g/n so its already installed and I didn't download that enabler. You may way want to try uninstalling it. Hope that helps, good luck

802.11n Enabler for MacBook Pro not included

Apple's page about the Airport Extreme Base Station says, "Most new Mac computers ship with built-in 802.11n wireless support that can be easily enabled with the installation of enabler software included with new AirPort Extreme wireless base station (see sidebar)."
Yesterday I purchased the Airport Extreme 802.11n WiFi Wireless Base Station (Model MB053ZA/A A1143). I have installed it OK and it is running fine. But I now want to "enable" 802.11n on my MacBook Pro but can not figure out how to do it.
I have searched everywhere through the box and looked everywhere on the one install disk (disk version 2.1 2Z681-6107-A) but I can not find anything that looks like enabler software for the WiFi network card in my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. The en1 page in Network Utility shows Model: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g).
How is the enabler normally shipped in the AirPort Extreme wireless base station package? On a separate disk? On the install disk? As a free download?

There were several MacBook Pro models with 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo processors. Your computer must be have a Core 2 Duo processor to qualify for the enabler.

There is only a single installation disk that is provided with the base station. The enabler software is located within the AirPort.mpkg package. There is a download, but it is not free. (ref: AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler for Mac)

802.11n Enabler Doesn't Want To Install

I have a new MacBook 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and when I downloaded the new Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler it tells me that my computer doesn't have the correct hardware. I am missing something here? Everything I have read tells me that this should work and this hardware should be built in. Let me know if you have any insights...thanks

Are you certain that your MacBook has the 'Core 2 Duo'? There are 2 different 2 GHz MacBooks. One has a 'Core Duo' processor and the other has a 'Core 2 Duo' processor.
Go to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac". It will tell you what type of processor your MacBook has.
If your MacBook does have a 'Core 2 Duo' processor, ensure that you have installed the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001.

Aiport extrem 802.11n enabler doesn't work

Hi everybody
I purchased a belkin N1 Wireless router. This allows the n connection and therefore I also purchased the 802.11n enabler.
The problem is, that this enabler says that I doesn't have the required hardware.
I have a MacBook Pro (Intel CoreDuo). What did I wrong?
Can anybody help me there?

MacBooks with Core 2 Duo processors are eligible for the 802.11n update, but not the earlier MacBooks with the Core Duo processors.

802.11n enabler (AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001/2007-001 update)

I'm thinking of getting time capsule and then getting the 802.11n enabler.
On the UK apple store(http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=17BDE0AD&fnode= home/shopmac/mac_accessories/airportwireless&nplm=D4141) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001, but I can't find it.
On the US store (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?find=en abler) it states i need the AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 update. I found that one and downloaded it but when trying to install it says "This volume does not meet the requirements for this update".
What do I need to to get this update??
Do I already have it??
Am I even able to get 802.11n??
Any help will be welcomed
For clarification these are my specs taken from system profiler.
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB

So it looks like I can't get 802.11n on my mac then. Oh well, good excuse for a new mac.
The apple store is quite misleading then it says you need either:
MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo
MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme option
iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (except the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac)
I have the latter iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (2.16Ghz), will probably get time capsule anyway though.

802.11n enabler won't install on 10.5.3

Greetings,
I just did a system re-install (upgraded my HD) today. When I was still running Tiger, I bought and installed the 802.11n enabler. Today, the enabler won't install. I am now running OS 10.5.3. I made sure the appropriate Airport Extreme updates are applied.
The error message I get is "You cannot install AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Any ideas?

Installing 802.11n enabler?

I have just purchased a new Airport Extreme (802.11n) and installed the Airport Utility included on the accompanying CD. The installation process said it was also installing the 802.11n enabler software. However when I run Network Utility, my network interface is still listed as "Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g)".
I noticed that the installer DID install a file called "AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler.pkg" on my hard drive. But when I launch this manually I get the error: "Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update".
My machine is a 15" MacBook Pro with a Core Duo 1.83GHz processor. My understanding is that this should be compatible with the "n" enabler (I believe apple's specs say all MacBook Pros are compatible). Why isn't it being enabled correctly? Is it not compatible for some reason?

Sorry, but your MacBook Pro must have the Intel Core 2 Duo chip to be eligible for the "n" enabler.

Can't perform 802.11n enabler upgrade on MacBook!

I wonder if anybody could help?!
I've just bought the 802.11n enabler software for my 2Ghz MacBook. I have installed all updates suggested by Software Update, and when I run the 802.11n enabler it says that my hardware is not compatible with the upgrade.
I tried to manually install the 2007-002 and 2007-003 Airport Extreme updates, but when I run these I am not able to use them because it says the hard disc is not a valid volume.
Is there something I am missing?

I think you'll find that your MacBook is not compatible.
The only hardware that works are Macs that shipped with the 802.11n hardware already installed.
The compatible hardware were all MacPros and iMacs and laptops with Core 2 Duos. The Core Duo machines were earlier models.

802.11n Enabler Software on an Older iMac

I hope someone will help me here. I have a 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac and it is apparently only supports 802.11g, accoding to the Network Utility and accordinat to this on the Apple Store site which explains that you can enable certain Macs to support 802.11n with their Enabler software.
Here's the thing. Like an idiot I paid for and downloaded the Enabler software and...you guessed it...it wouldn't load (saying my hardware wasn't correct for the software.
Yet, I have a Gigabit Netgear Switch which reports with a green light when it is negotiating at a Gig and an orange light when negoitating lower than a Gig. My Mac is negotiating at a Gig, according to the green light on the Gigabit Netgear Switch.
Can anyone tell me if this Mac is really enabled for a Gig negotiation (802.11n) or is my switch not reporting correctly?
Here is the quote from the Apple Store for the Enabler software.
"If you have a Mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (except the 17-inch, 1.83GHz iMac) or a Mac Pro with AirPort Extreme, you can enable it to access an 802.11n wireless network using the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler software."
If someone could shed some light on this, I truly would be appreciative.

That really helps me out. Do you know if I were to purchase the newest Airport Base Station Extreme, would it show up as a Gigabit device if I connected to my home network via an ethernet cable? I only need it for a hub in a remote part of my home, and I can easily get an ethernet cable to it.
It's a related question to my first question, since I'm really trying to understand the speed differences in wired versus wireless networks.

I have a 2nd Gen Touch with the latest updated software. I use Airport to connect to the internet on my new iMac 24". Will the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler software now offered in the Apple store($1.99) for Mac improve communications between the Touch and my iMac?

Nope. Your touch is still limited to b/g mode wireless. In fact, if you have an all n network, your touch won't even know that it exists.
Most of your Mac to iPod communication is via the USB cable unless you are using Remote or other applications that can move files on and off.
BTW, that software is to enable early intel Macs to use N wireless. If your Mac is relatively new, you won't need it.

Down loaded 802.11n enabler now loading pages are at a crawl? Have a Linksys wrt160n what should be my settings to get speeds at least back to before the down load.
Now at WAP personal, mixed, 20-40 on the Linksys

Question about 802.11n enabler

Hey folks. I just purchased the 802.11n enabler, however, i don't see any improvement in terms of speed or connection stablity. I checked network ulity, and it says it's installed, so.. what's the deal?

You are right. 802.11n works only when there is a network of the devices that support 802.11n, whether they are Macs, PCs, or AppleTV. For the Internet connection in the US, not in South Korea, the speed of 802.11g is more than enough, except that 802.11n has a longer range than 802.11g.
