802.11N in Aironet?s Products

Hello Everybody
I?m already designing a Unified Wireless Solution for a customer... but my customer tell me that cabletron solution work with 802.11N standard. I was wondering why Aironet?s products doesn?t work with 802.11N
I found that Linksys already works with 802.11N... but do you know good arguments to avoid this standard on Cisco Aironet?

Hi, 802.11n it not yet official. Any product on the market are pre-draft and nothing guaranty they are compatible with each other.
According to the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Project Timelines, the estimated 802.11n publish date is now May 2009.
As for Cisco, they usually release a product a few month after the standard is out. The might release a product 802.11n upgradeable before may2009 like they did for 802.11G.

    Hi Simon Yee
There may be several reasons that may cause the problem,
    1) your ISP has assigned you a network address (ip) dynamics, and this changed unexpectedly, you can call your ISP and change it to static.
    2) your DVR settings were altered by any third person who had access to the device, to fix this you should contact a technician in IP Cameras
    3) The website has blocked your DNS mapping for this you should contact the site and ask for your camera Surv website
    4) The password or user of the site is incorrect, for this you must reset your device with the reset option
    5) there is some port blocked by your modem or your router, so here's this link where you can see a user configuration

  • Aironet 1252 bridge and 802.11n

    Hi,
I have two Cisco Aironet 1252  that I want to configure as a point-2-point bridge. Now I want to know if this configuration supports the 802.11n protocol.
    Regards,
    Screech

    Scott,
I found the following statemen in the release note of IOS 12.4 (25d) (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/ios/release/notes/12_4_25d._JArn.html#wp291685)
802.11n HT Rates Apply Only to No Encryption or WPA2/AES Encryption
The 802.11n HT rates apply only to no encryption or WPA2/AES encryption. They do not apply to WEP or WPA encryption. If WEP or TKIP encryption is used, the 1250 series access points and any 802.11n Draft 2.0 clients will not transmit at the HT rates. Legacy rates (802.11a/b/g) will be used for any clients using WEP or TKIP encryption
Given this statement how do I configure AES encryption on the aironets 1252 that are configured in bridge mode as I do not see this option. If possible please provide steps using the web interface.

  • Aironet 1252 / 802.11n / Outdoor Use over 2.7 km (1.7 miles)

    Hi There,
We are planning to use two Aironet's 1252 over an 2.7 km point to point link.
One of the options we have it to install three HyperLink Parabolig Grid 5.8 MHz 27 dBi antennas in parallel for every 1252.
I have some concerns because those antennas are not supported by Cisco. In fact, the most gain of Cisco supported antennas is 10 dBi Yagui for 2.4 GHz and 6 dB Omni for 5.8 GHz.
The question is if the 3x 27 dBi antenna array on each side will work without self interferences and what would be the required separation of antennas to get 300 Mbps over the link.
Has anyone tried something like this with the 1252's?
Thanks in advance for any information.
    BR,
    Igor Sotelo.

    Hi Steve,
I have seen the Q&A section for the Aironet 1250:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5678/ps6973/ps8382/prod_qas0900aecd806b7c82_ps6973_Products_Q_and_A_Item.html
states that both root and non-root bridge modes are supported.
About that, may I ask if that means that the bridging can work over 802.11n, but is not supported for regulatory reasons. Or the bridging basically only functions in 802.11 a and g modes.
    Thanks for the information.
    BR,
    Igor Sotelo.

  • Aironet Autonomous 1252 CLI command 802.11n disable

    hi,
I am using Aironet Autonomous 1252 AP. The version used is:
Cisco IOS Software, C1260 Software (AP3G1-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(25d)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
I want to disable 802.11n on 2.4GHz interface. Please tell the CLI command to do this.
    Thanks in advance.
    uv.

Why you want to disable 802.11n data rates ?
There are few other ways as well. For 802.11n you should have following
    1. WMM enable
    2. either Open Authentication or WPA2/AES
So if you are not using 1 & 2 both, you won't get 802.11n data rates. Refer this

  • Cisco Aironet AIR-SAP2602I-E-K9 WAP -ERROR: VLAN 1000 doesn't exist on 'Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ' (see Services VLAN)

    Hey guys,
I'm configuring my access points with two SSID's through the GUI. The first is a corporate SSID and the second a guest SSID. The corporate SSID needs to be attached to native VLAN 1000. The guest SSID needs to be attached to VLAN 1234. Both SSID's / VLAN's are to use WPAv2 AES CCMP with a PSK. Although I'm getting an error message indicating that my VLAN's don't exist on ‘Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ’ .  Here are steps I take from start to error...
Create SSID’s with no security. CORP not to broadcast. Set CORP to use native VLAN 1000. Set guest to use VLAN1234.
Within security encryption manager > Set encryption mode cipher to AES CCMP on both VLAN 1000 and VLAN1234.
Within services > VLAN check that both VLAN’s have Radio0-802.11N 2.4GHZ and Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ selected. They do.
Within Security > SSID Manager – set client authenticated key management to mandatory, enable WPA – WPAv2. Set pre-shared key. Hit apply > “ERROR: VLAN 1000 doesn’t exist on ‘Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ’ (see Services > VLAN).
I get the same error for both SSID’s. Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ is "checked" against both VLAN's. Am I missing something? Both Radio0-802.11N 2.4GHZ and Radio1-802.11N 5GHZ are enable interfaces and are "up".
I'm pretty customed to switch and router IOS although have absolutely no exposure to WAP CLI.
    Any assistance appreciated.

I've resolved this myself. The GUI is basically terrible and very buggy. I used the CLI and was able to add WPA through the CLI.

  • ASK THE EXPERTS - Update on 802.11n with Fred Niehaus

Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to get an update on 802.11n with Cisco expert Fred Niehaus. Fred is a Technical Marketing Engineer for the Wireless Networking Business Unit at Cisco, where he is responsible for developing and marketing enterprise wireless solutions using Cisco Aironet and Airespace wireless LAN products. In addition to his participation in major deployments, Fred has served as technical editor for several Cisco Press books including the "Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Reference Guide" and "The Business Case for Enterprise-Class Wireless LANs." Prior to joining Cisco with the acquisition of Aironet, Fred was a support engineer for Telxon Corporation, supporting some of the very first wireless implementations for major corporate customers. Fred has been in the data communications and networking industry for more than 20 years and holds a Radio Amateur (Ham) License "N8CPI."

Remember that you can continue the conversation on the Other Mobility Subjects discussion forum shortly after the event. This event lasts through March 25, 2011. So there are two parts of this question, the latter part I cannot address as it is a future question.  Cisco does not comment on products that have not been released or on the strategy of next generation products.
That said, Cisco was first to market with an 802.11n Access Point and well (we didn't all go on vacation after we did that)
So let's talk a little about spatial streams in general and how it relates to what customers are doing today.
The Cisco 1040, 1140, 1250, 1260 and 3500 Series Access Points are all two spatial streams (2SS).
As of the time of this writing, a critical mass of 3SS and 4SS compatible clients have yet to be deployed, and the vast majority of WiFi clients that will be deployed over the next 18 months will be 1SS and 2SS clients.
The higher SS clients are likely only show up in some higher end notebooks -- Why? well it is a given that smartphones and tablets are likely to continue to be 1SS and in some rare cases 2SS.
This is because additional radios used in this technology consume battery life, add to the physical size of the device and increase the cost. Also many devices leverage the same single antenna for cellular as well as WiFi.  Therefore, it is my opinion that 3SS Access Points provide little if any performance benefit for smartphones or tablets in the enterprise today, and any real throughput gain is likely to occur with high end notebooks in close proximity to the Access Point and those are rolling out very slowly and we are monitoring this.
Now we get to my favorite part of this..  I get to ask myself a question and then answer it..
So Fred are you saying that there is no value in 3SS and 4SS?
Of course not, 3SS performs similar to 2SS beyond a short distance, and with any multi-SS product RF interference must be addressed to capture the performance benefits of higher SS Access Points. Actual throughput in any WiFi environment is highly dependent on the presence of interferers and obstacles.
Without the ability to mitigate the impact of interference, 3SS solutions will "downshift" to 2SS of 1SS and lose all the performance benefits anyway IMHO.
I don't want to sound like a commercial, but you really do need Cisco cleanair technology in the AP and Cisco innovations deliver more and will go beyond the simple 3SS aspects of the 802.11n standard.
IMHO it's more about CleanAir, good RF system design, and what we put into the AP with regard to performance "in the environment" and not what is on some spec sheet today.

  • 802.11n (CISCO?) client adapter

    Hello,
after the release of the 1250AP, I was wondering if the 802.11n compatible client adapters were planed or close to release, and if anyone had an information about that.
I was also wondering if this AP had any particular CISCO features (like there was in some previous versions) that could require such an adapter to work properly?
    Regards,
    Laurent

Cisco's 1250 series APs have been selected as the test hardware for all 802.11n Draft 2.0 client adapters. That means that for any Draft 2.0 compliant hardware to be certified, it must inter-operate with the 1250 series AP. There are some additional features that Cisco makes availible to client adapters (CCX, for example), but any Draft 2.0 certified client adapter should work with the 1250 without any problem, regardless of CCX version support.
Below is from the Cisco Aironet 1250 Series Access Point Q&A:
    Q. What is the status of the Draft 802.11n version 2.0 standard?
    A. The IEEE 802.11n working group has passed letter ballot, and this is what is known as 802.11 Draft 2.0. Subsequently, the Wi-Fi Alliance commenced compatibility testing in June 2007 to ensure interoperability of products adhering to the 802.11n draft 2.0 standard. The Cisco Aironet 1250 Series Access Point was selected as the reference platform for the Wi-Fi Alliance test bed. All products receiving Wi-Fi Alliance draft 2.0 certification must be tested with the Cisco Aironet 1250 Series Access Point.

  • Cisco 802.11n Outdoor Access Point

I have to propose to a client a 802.11n outdoor Acess point with external antenna, tha gain must be >8 dbi.
Which cisco model should i use ?

I have to propose to a client a 802.11n outdoor Acess point with external antenna, tha gain must be >8 dbi.
DO NOT, under any circumstances, use 1260 or 3500e if you plan to use antennas > 6 dBi.  These two models DO NOT SUPPORT antenna gain higher than 6 dBi.  The only two 802.11n-capable WAP that can support high-gain antenna of > 6 dBi are the 1250 and the 3500p.
Antenna Product Portfolio for Cisco Aironet 802.11n Access Points
The 1250 is End-of-Sale (End-of-Sale Date:  12 January 2012) and requires 20.0w of PoE.  The 1250 can support antenna gain > 6 dBi.
The 3500p was released around mid-2011 because people were howling/screaming about the lack of high-gain antenna support, thus the 3500p was developed alongside the AIR-ANT25137NP-R.
Cisco recommends that the installation of the AIR-ANT25137NP-R should be done with proper sight-survey.

  • New Macbook Air will not connect to 802.11n, but my old 2011 model will

I have just bought a new MBA 13", i7, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD.
When I connect to my home network I see it as a 802.11n network, but as soon as I log on, I only have 802.11g connection. I still have my old 2011 MBA, and it connects to the n-standard just fine.
I went to the local Apple reseller to have them look at it, but the problem was not present when connecting to their airport extremes.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem, and is there a known fix?
    Casper

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership. If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to  exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different.

  • Does Mixing 802.11n with .11g Devices Slow the Whole Network?

    Hi all,
I'm considering buying the new Airport Extreme as I also have a new Macbook Pro that supports 802.11n. I also have a couple Airport Expresses on my network, and my question is this:
Will the presence of the Airport Express units (which are 802.11g) drag the whole network into .11g speeds? I ask this because of this note on the Airport Extreme page:
Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network.
    Thanks for any guidance.

I did this the same way....
I connected my cable modem directly to the WAN port of my new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. I have selected 'n' only (5GHz). I call this network Saturn.
There are 3 ethernet ports on this new base station. Wired to one of these ports is my 802.11g Snow Airport Extreme Base Station. This base station will handle any 'g' services (like my friends who are using MacBooks/iBooks/PCs). I have 2 AirPort Express base stations that I use to play music on remote speakers, and wireless printing. It also has 2 Linksys wireless USB 'b' devices that connect to it, which 2 of my TiVos use to get their daily updates. I wanted to keep all of this stuff off the 'n' network since I heard it would slow it down. I call this 'g' network Zodiak. I can see both networks in my AirPort menu, and can select either.
In addition, I have an xBox that I connected directly to one of the wired ethernet ports on the 'n' base station, and I have a Linksys switch that is wired to the 'g' base station.
My only complaint is that I can't get to all of this stuff that is on the 'g' network. Which means, if I want to print something, I need to change my network, if I want to play iTunes out of my stereo speakers, I need to change the network, and if I want to use my TiVo to display photos, I need to change networks. I was hoping I'd still be able to get to that stuff since the 'g' network is hard wired into the ethernet port of the 'n' network. Oh well. I'm only on a 6MB Comcast service, so perhaps I'll try mixing the 'g' network in and seeing how bad it affects performance.
I'm getting 2.5 mb/sec on a hard drive transfer...can't imagine that being much worse on 'g'.

  • Apple TV refuses 802.11n

    Howdy folks...
Bad week for Apple products for me. I went through two iPhones and now my Apple TV has decided to downshift! In the middle of watching a movie, the screen went black and came back with "Your iTunes Library is unavailable, make sure *computer name* is on and iTunes is open". I went over to the main computer and sure enough, iTunes was on, open, there were computers showing up in the shared section, but the Apple TV was missing under Devices.
    I'll describe my setup:
I have a main file server in the house with the master iTunes library, it's the only library Apple TV syncs with. Connected to the server's ethernet port is an Airport Extreme N in bridge mode (one of its LAN ports), also, there is an 802.11 G "UFO" Airport connected to one of the spare LAN ports on the new Airport (this is the primary base station that is connected to my modem). I designed the network this way so that I can get the full 802.11n speed to my 802.11n devices (black MacBook and Apple TV), and other 802.11g devices would have their own portal into my file server. All Macs in the house run OS X 10.4.10 with iTunes 7.3.1 (I'm a freak about versioning)
I navigated to the Network section of Apple TV's settings where I noticed it was no longer connected to a wireless network, and in fact wouldn't scan or display ANY networks (there are about 25 within range of my apartment that I ALWAYS see), so there was no possibility of me rejoining my network, even manually. I realized the situation was crappier than I thought and would require some hard-resetting and restoring. Here's everything I did:
    Factory reset Apple TV
Factory reset BOTH Airport Extremes (G & N) and set them up with NO security
    Reinstalled iTunes, re-imported entire library
Turned Syncing off, then back on (I could only enter the pairing code when joined to 802.11G)
I discovered that after the restore, the Apple TV's Network utility on first boot would see my base stations! However, it would only join the 802.11G network, it continuously errored out when attempting to join the 802.11 N network (either -6, -3 or 0 as a code, which I couldn't find documentation for). Mind you, my MacBook can join my 802.11 N network with no problems at all, both before and after the factory reset of the base station. After I got the error code, and I went back to try and join my 802.11 G network, all the within-range networks were gone, and the scanning no longer worked as I described above. So I had to factory restore AGAIN. When the Apple TV came back up, I joined my 802.11G network with no issues, the Apple TV popped up in iTunes and began to sync. I cancelled the sync and ran the Software Update to get me to ATV 1.1. When it rebooted, I tried to switch networks and got the same loop of errors - try to join N network, fail, then no networks at all are displayed.
Does anyone have any further recommendations for troubleshooting, or is the wifi card in my Apple TV fubar? I'd imagine that would be covered under the 1 year warranty, but since I got the Apple TV on launch and more than 90 days has passed, AppleCare refuses to speak to me (an ex Apple employee, a current Apple certified technician, in the Apple Consultants Network, and Apple Store business liaison for small/medium business in the Bay Area....what nerve!) even though I never used my "one phonecall".
I've been really disappointed with their customer support as I've seen many of you on the boards have been as well, so hopefully we can help each other!

I know it's a lot of work, but you could try setting up your network and tv again, using entirely different criteria, ie new network names, device names and passwords. I'm not guaranteeing success, but I have seen networking devices behave as though they remembered passwords and names after a reset and have conflicted with a new set up using the same passwords/names etc.

  • After setting up my brand new Airport Express 802.11n and accidentally using it to connect my iMac to the network...my iMac no longer connects through Ethernet?  Any ideas...I have tried everything without success!!

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2.  I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works.  Unfortunately that stopped today.  I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool.  I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time.  Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable.  I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer.  I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday.  All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor.  Anybody who can help me???  Thanks

John, thanks for the email so quickly.
I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical.  I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar.  In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both.  I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail.  I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
    Thoughts???
