802.1ac Client Issue

I have the new Apple Airport Time Capsule as my router, being fed from a Comcast cable modem. As you know, the Apple TC is dual band capable and can provide 802.1ac wireless connectivity. I also have an Apple Airport Express located upstairs that does a good job of extending my network, providing excellent wireless n coverage throughout the second story of the house.
I purchased a TrendNet AC1200 Dual Band Wireless Media Bridge that is 802.1ac capable. To the Media Bridge I have wired Ethernet connections my DirecTV HD DVR, my AppleTV and my Roku box. When the TrendNet Media Bridge is wirelessly connected to the TC, all is well in that I get the speeds I would expect (500-800 Mb/s) from having an 802.1ac client wirelessly connected to a 802.1ac router.
My problem is that the TrendNet Wireless Media Bridge will often connect on its own to the Airport Express upstairs which is 802.1n, and only give me throughput speeds of ~270 Mb/s. I want the TrendNet to always stay wirelessly attached to the Time Capsule obviously, in order to give me ac-to-ac connectivity.
What I thought was the solution was to assign the TrendNet a static IP address (10.0.1.21) and make the default gateway setting on it the IP address of the Time Capsule (10.0.1.1). However, even with this setting, the TrendNet will regularly connect to the Airport Express upstairs. I should also say that the Time Capsule and Airport Express are about the same distance from the TrendNet.
So, how can I force the TrendNet Media Bridge to stay connected only to the Airport Time Capsule? I assume Apple will eventually ship a 802.1ac Airport Express, which would solve the problem. But until then?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

So, how can I force the TrendNet Media Bridge to stay connected only to the Airport Time Capsule?
It would seem that this is really a question for TrendNet support.
There is nothing on the Apple devices that would tell the TrendNet device what to do.
I suggest that you ask TrendNet if it is possible to force the Media Bridge to pick up a signal from a specific device.
I imagine that the TrendNet, like the Apple, is simply looking for the strongest signal....not the fastest signal... and I doubt that you can change that....but if it is possible, the "how to" is a question for TrendNet support.
I assume Apple will eventually ship a 802.1ac Airport Express, which would solve the problem.
An 802.11ac AirPort Extreme would likely solve the problem right now.

What is the recommended way to ensure 802.11n clients are evenly split between 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz frequencies?

What is the recommended way to ensure 802.11n clients are evenly split between 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz frequencies?
The "best" way is to configure the clients to associate to the correct radio of your choice.  Doing this will cause issues in the near future.  For example, you have configured a client to associate to the "a" radio.  However, if the client goes beyond the "a" radio range ...
The "easiest" way is to let the client/wireless NIC make the decision themselves.

  • Disabling 802.11b, what issues to coverage?

    Hi All
I want to soon disable 802.11b support on our AP 1231 with B/G cards. I want this because I don't like to have 802.11b clients connecting and taking down the speed.
The question now is, how would our signal coverage change if I put 'power local cck 1' on the device?
Or I would only allow theese rates:
    6.0 9.0 12.0 18.0 24.0 36.0 48.0 54.0 which are only supported by 802.11g cards.
Would that change the signal range a lot? Or do you have better ideas to disable 802.11b support?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
    Here is some info related to disabling 802.11b;
    Q. How can I set the AP so that only IEEE 802.11g clients can connect? I do not want the IEEE 802.11b clients to connect and slow down the wireless network. There is a second, parallel 802.11b network for unsecured clients.
    A. In order for the AP to receive only 802.11g clients, complete these steps in the GUI:
Go to the Network Interfaces section and click Radio 0-802.11G.
Click the Settings tab at the top of the Radio 0-802.11G window.
Choose Disable for these data rates:
    1.0
    2.0
    5.5
    11.0
Choose Require for all the other data rates. These other data rates are:
    6.0
    9.0
    12.0
    18.0
    24.0
    36.0
    48.0
    54.0
Click Apply at the bottom of the window.
    From this good doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a008009483e.shtml
As for coverage; A fundamental rule is that as data rates increase, range decreases. 802.11b uses DSSS to support data rates of 11, 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps each, with correspondingly longer ranges as the data rates decrease. 802.11g uses OFDM to support data rates of 54, 48, 36, 24, 18, 12, 9, and 6 Mbps each, with correspondingly longer ranges as the data rates decrease. The higher data rates supported by 802.11g result in shorter range than the range supported by the maximum 802.11b data rate. Still, OFDM is a more efficient means of transmission than is DSSS, meaning that at a given range, higher OFDM-based data rates will be supported than DSSS-based data rates (all other things being held constant). That being said your range difference should not be too drastic
    From this superior Cisco doc (Have a look at Table 4 for some good Range approximations);

  • Airport Express 802.11n and 802.11g clients?

    Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask this question.
    Setup:
    1. At this time I have a main AE 802.11g base for wireless surfing.
    2. I have a second AE 802.11g connected to the hi-fi system. This second AE station is connceted as a client into the wireless network of the main AE base.
Question: could I keep this setup after replacing 1. with an AE 802.11n base (and keep the AE 802.11g client for streaming)?
    Thanks you,
    Andre

I would still have one more question.
    Are theses assumptions correct?
    1. If the AE 802.11g client is switched off, the network will work at full speed (802.11n)
    2. Turning on the AE 802.11g client would slow down the network at 802.11g level
    3. switching the AE 802.11g client off again would lead to a recovery to full speed 802.11n
I am asking this because I do the music streaming only occasionally, must of the time I am using my MBP for work,
    Thank you,
    Andre

  • ConsoleOne on Windows 7 GW client 802 TopDown Rebuild issue

Does anyone seen this issue before? Recently (3 months ago) we have migrated to GW 8. We are using Windows 7 64 bit and consoleOne 1.3.6h.
We have done topdown rebuild on all Domains and PO's. While logged in to ConsoleOne >Tools>Groupwise System Operations> Pending transactions. It does shows me 3-5 domains in "Modify" operations.
We checked the DB and rebuild agian and it shows same. Can't add or change password for the objects in consoleone too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems no one installed such configuration and never had any issue. Please let me know what to do in case if you resolve this in future...:-)

  • Eap-tls wired 802.1x - certificate issue?

I have configured ACS 4.0 and an 2003 Enterprise root CA on the same server, successfully applied the GPO to auto-enroll machines with Computer certificates, and then enabled 802.1x security on Catalyst 3750s. Note this is for wired 802.1x.
If I reboot the machine, the EAP packets go through and you can see a successful authentication in the "Passed Authentications" log. However, if you disconnect the wire and then plug it back in, Windows gets stuck in "Validatiny Identity", and eventually a balloon pops up saying: "Windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on". Doing a 'sh dot1x interface ...' shows it is CONNECTING until the auth timeout is reached then it dumps the workstation into the guest vlan. Nothing is logged to Passed Authentications or Failed Attempts on the ACS server.
Basically, the only time the EAP-TLS machine authentication works is when you reboot the machine. And if you change the state of the port either by diabling/enabling from the workstation or switch, or unplug the cable and plug it back in, Windows does not seem to pass the certificate information along to the PAE.
This does not seem to happen when a user/client certificate is issued, only when it is a machine/computer certificate
Has anybody seen this before and have any solutions why Windows cannot recogonize the machine certificate properly?

We solved our WIRELESS problem by editing the following entrees. I sure this can be applied to the wired side somehow.
The information about the correct settings can be found in this Microsoft document:
    http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/8e74974f-c951-48ce-8235-02f4ed8e74921033.mspx?mfr=true
The areas of interest are the SupplicantMode (EAPOL-Start Message) and AuthMode (what type of authentication to use) registry entries. These can be configured manually in the registry or applied via Group Policy.
This allows just the machine to authenticate (using a Cert all ready on the Machine) then we use our ACS server to auth the user via AD.
I am doing this wirelessly and using as long as you are using a WDS the following will be the result.
Roaming AP to AP I only lost 1 packet.
Roaming from Vlan to other Vlan I lost 5 packets (Different ip address)
Shutting the wireless off and back on I only lost 8 packets.
I thought this was a very good result. We will be launching our lab with 35 plus laptops in a classroom with 2 radios.

  • Z10 802.1x Authentication Issue

I am a network administrator. I have found Z10 cannot connect to our corporate's PEAP 802.1X SSID. All other devices can connect without problem. Z10 can connect to our open authentication SSID.  Any ideas? Thanks.

We ran into the same situation from time to time. We implemented 802.1x authentication using the Cisco Secure Services Client (SSC) on the windows hosts.
At the beginning we were completly unable to logon on the maschines where no locally stored windows profile exists. After change to timeout to authenticate at the network in the SSC options we are able to logon to the network and also be authenticated by the domain controller.
Sadly this works out often as a timing issue. Most times the user needs to try a couple of times. At the moment, I'm also very interessted in a good way to avoid this (as it seems to be) racecondition.
Hope that someone else has any clue?

  • Express 802.11n Heat Issue

I have been using an AirPort Extreme, and two AirPort Expresses (b/g's) since 2003. One of the Expresses died a week or so ago....RIP. It served me well.
I bought a new Express, 802.11n, and hooked it up... all is OK, but it runs extremely hot. The book says 94 degrees max which was the spec for the earlier b/g's.
I hooked up a type k thermocouple to it via a Omegaette HH303 digital thermometer and with the ambient temp at 85.7 f degrees it hovered at 112.9 f. It is on a book shelf with plenty of air space. My Extreme or my older Express doesn't run this hot although this time of year they really push the 94 f ceiling ....What's up??
As a quick and dirty countermeasure I attached a 3" DC 12v turbo whisper fan to it (ugly, ugly) and I am able to keep the temp around 92 f ~ 93.8 f.
The book says that the "n's" are bigger, stronger, faster, more powerful,,,,, So, do the "n's" make more heat???
I live in Baja California Sur, (Mexico), and for the next couple of months the temps will run between 85 ~ 90 f then the temp drops back down to mid 70's until next July.
I think that the AirPorts dislike heat,,, they look durn good, but can not adequately dissipate heat. And don't say I should run Air Conditioning,,, I should, but can't here... My stereo's and TV don't mind the temps.... heck my car DVD/radio gets hotter and still works...
So now I have to "fan cool" my new AirPort Express along with monthly disassemblies to clean the scroll ball on my "Mighty Mouse".... thanks Apple..
Does anybody notice more heat from their n-Expresses???

Silent, had similar issues, but finally got it to work. Here's my settings:
On Extreme Base Station WPS tab, select WPS Main for WDS mode, check "allow wireless client", put in the Airport ID of your WDS remote (Express). Under Wireless Tab select "Participate in WDS network" for Wireless mode.
On the Express under WDS tab select "WDS remote" for WDS mode, check "allow wireless client", under WDS main put in the ID of the Extreme Base Station. Under Wireless tab select "Participate in a WDS network"
Also is important to reset everything then start up the utility program. I tried copying the settings from my old base station and that did not work. Hope this helps.

  • Historical Reporting Client issues

    Hi,
Cisco Unified CCX Administration  - HA Setup
    System version: 8.0.2.11002-3
    Supervisor PC:
    Windows XP SP3
I've client facing some issue with HRC. He seems duplicate entries for few of the agents. He can recall those entries were earlier added/deleted from UCCX but still sees it in HRC.
For example: Agent1 has two entries in HRC. AGENT1 and Agent1. The valid entry is Agent1 as configured in CUCM. The other entry (AGENT1) is not visible anywhere in CUCM or UCCX (Active/Inactive agents).
There are 4 HRC users and they all see the duplicate agent entries.
Another issue is that while running Agent summary or some other report for one of those duplicate agents, HRC throws following error. We've tried putting Agent1 and AGENT1 both entries in HRC but same issue. We know the Agent1 is taking regular calls and there should be reports for that agent. The error is:
"There were no report data to view in the data range selected. Please select a different date/time and try again"
Same agent, when trying to pull in the Agent Summary or some other report for March 2011, HRC throws the follwoing error:
"A runtime error occurred while executing the query. Please check log for more details"
I was suspecting Bug CSCtc79010 but as per the release notes for UCCX version client is running this bug is fixed in that version.
Not sure if Bug CSCtj88620 is causing some issue. The problem description in the bug doesn't match exactly.
I've already done the following but all the above mentioned issues remain there:
    1) I've verified the configuration in CUCM and UCCX. The Agent1 is only visible, there is no entry for AGENT1.
    2) Disabled/Enabled the UCCX DB Synchronization.
    3) Un-installed the HRC on a PC, deleted the HRC folder in Program files and re-installed by downloading the file from UCCX Server directly.
FYI, all other agent reports are being run fine, not suspecting any admin rights/services issue in Supervisor PC.
Would appreciate if anyone can give some more pointers what else can I check?
    Thanks in advance,
    inner_silence

My issue is on UCCX v7.0.
HRC shows duplicate entries for few agents.
There are duplicate agents, due to changes made in its number or its name. (view image).
There is some file in the server UCCX to save the information to agents after being modified or deleted?
    Thanks a lot.

  • IP address Assignment for 802.1x Client

Working on a Wireless deployment using 802.1x and a question has come up regarding Address Assignment.
The design requires wireless vlan assignment based on username and Active Directory group assignment.
The simplest way to provide dynamic addressing would obviously be multiple DHCP Scopes on a server and use ip helper functionally to provide relay servers.
Another option (I think) would be to create IP address pools in the ACS server based on ACS group and have ACS pass it back as part of the authentication process. I'm wondering if this is even a valid option with 802.1x authentication. It seems to me that it would cut down on alot of the traffic assoiciated with a DHCP discovery/request/offer conversation as the number of wireless clients start to grow.

Err, no. There is no provision in EAP-TLS, PEAP (CHAP), or even basic EAP to provide network information (eg IP address/mask/gateway/DNS/etc).
There is also no provision in Windows 2k or XP interface management software to accept IP details for interface configuration via any wireless authentication protocol.

  • Multithreaded client issues

I have a multithreaded client that maintains a pool of connections to the Oracle server. Each thread grabs a connection to issue selects, updates and inserts to the DBMS. Under Win 2000, an access violation occurs in msvcrt.dll when the second or third thread exits (during the OS call to _endthreadex). This problem does not occur under WIn NT 4.0.
Are there any multithreaded issues related to development on 2000 vs NT? Where can I read more about writing multithreaded OCI clients in general?
The Win 2000 box is current on Windows 2000 service packs, Visual Studio SPs, and the MS SDK. I'm using OCI V8.
    Thanks,
    Ben

if your question is the same as another post up in this thread, you just need a single environment handle. OCI will automatically manage the thread safety across multiple threads.

Update Rollup 8 For Exchange 2010 SP3 (KB2986475) was applied to our Exchange server last night.
All appears to be fine, but users are having all kind of trouble using the Outlook Client to connect to their mailboxes.
Randomly they can't view certain folders (Inbox/Sent Items). Can no longer save to their Calendars. Errors relating to permissions and Outlook notifications?!?!?!?!

The following has been posted onto the Exchange team site:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/12/09/exchange-releases-december-2014.aspx
    Update 12/10/2014:
An issue has been identified in the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 8. The update has been recalled and is no longer available on the download center pending a new RU8 release. Customers should not proceed with deployments of this update until the
new RU8 version is made available. Customers who have already started deployment of RU8 should rollback this update.
The issue impacts the ability of Outlook to connect to Exchange, thus we are taking the action to recall the RU8 to resolve this problem. We will deliver a revised RU8 package as soon as the issue can be isolated, corrected, and validated. We will publish
further updates to this blog post regarding RU8.
This issue only impacts the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU8 update, the other updates remain valid and customers can continue with deployment of these packages.
