802.1x auth via ACS through unknown user policy - multiple directories?

A customer has an LDAP directory as well as a Novell NDS directory.
MAC clients authenticate to IPlanet LDAP.
Windows users authenticate to Novell NDS.
Is there any way to use multiple SSIDs and the unknown user policy to authenticate users against their appropriate directories?
Thanks,
Tim

Actually, you can. You can manually add users to the ACS database and specify which external database to use. Take a look at the URL below. It is on adding users to the ACS database using the CSUtil.exe program on the ACS server. The import file that is read allows you to specify which external database type to query for the users authentication.

  • ACS issue - External unknown user policy database

    HI all,
Is there any way I can get back information from an external user database into ACS:
I have 2 ssids, both on seperate IP address ranges. I have an external unknown user policy to pass username and passwords to. In the database there are flags which distinguish between two different types of users. Can I pass this 'flag' back to ACS somehow. When a user tries to logon to one SSID I want ACS to somehow check this flag and decide if that user can  access that SSID.
    Any ideas ??

    What is your external database?

  • EAP-TLS & Unknown User Policy

I setting up an WLC with the client using EAP-TLS (machine authentication only). We are using ACS 3.2 which is part of AD. The problem is that the ACS is being used to authorize users for Internet Access also.
So if I enable the Unknown User Policy to AD for EAP-TLS machine authentication, this will break what is being done for Internet Access.
Any ideas that don't include entering every machine and user name in the local database? I was wondering if I could setup a wildcard user of host/* that points to AD.
Is there a way to make this work without configuring the Unknown user policy to point to AD?
    Thank you!

Log onto the ACS server itself as the local administrator.
Browse to the Bin directory in the ACS program directory.
Run the program there called CSSupport.
Select "Run Wizard" and click Next.
Check all the boxes and create the file for last 3 days and clickNext.
    Again click Next.
Select "Set Diagnostic Log Verbosity to Maximum." and click Next.
    Click Next, then click Finish.
In an environment where there is more than one global catalog server for the domain, ACS will not search for the secondary" catalog server if the "primary" goes down.
Condition: ACS is installed on a domain member server.
Workaround: Re-start csauth.exe.Let me know if restarting CSAuth makes any difference

  • Big IP Auth via ACS 5.1

    Does
anyone have a working example of using ACS 5.1 to authenticate
BigIP LTM GUI users?  I have found a couple of discussion in the F5 dev
site but nothing using ACS, only generic TACACS+ implementations.

Doesn't look like many people have problems with BigIP and ACS 5.x...must just be me :)
I ended up getting some help from TAC and this is what I had to do.
Create the External Group on the F5, this includes the custom attribute that the F5 witll expect back from the F5:
    b remoterole role info Netadm '{
    attribute "F5-LTM-User-Info-1=Netadm"
    role administrator
    user partition all
    console enable
    deny disable
    line order 2
Create the custom attribute in the Device Admin Shell Profile:
    F5-LTM-User-Info-1 Mandatory Netadm
At this point it should work with no problems but somehow Single Connect got turned on in the Device Config section of ACS, which I didnt find until i did some packet captures.  After I turned off Single Connect everything worked like a champ.
BTW, I am using ACS to forward LDAP requests to our DC's for authentication.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • TACACS "fail unknown users" after upgrade to ACS 3.3

    Basic config issue is :
    1) User Account is added to ACS 3.3
    2) User Account is added to Group with correct Privilege Levels
    3) User Password Authentication: is listed as "Windows Database"
    4) TACACS+ Enable Control: is set to user group settings
    5) And TACACS+ Enable is also set to "Windows Database"
In External DB all windows Domains are listed (but not down to specific group mapping)
Here is the problem, every thing works fine.
Users can log onto router in User mode (using domain password) & change to EN mode (using domain password)
As long as the "Unknown user policy" is set to check against "Windows". this works.
But if it is set to "fail Unknown users" then no one can gain access

    Hi Michael,
    We opened a TAC case ans was given the following info;
    CSCef84196
    First Found-in Version 3.3(1)
    Symptom:
users created on acs but mapped to external DB manually fail authentication
    Condition:
-this happens when unkown user policy is set to fail authentication attempt.
    Workaround:
    - set unkown policy to check external database.
if dynamic users aren't desired to authenticate, you can map the external DB to a disabled group.
and put the manually mapped users in an enabled group.
Ther is no fix available yet!

  • ACS Unknown User Discovery

    All,
Can ACS send an event/snmp trap when it discovers unknown users?
How will ACS administrators get notified when ACS discovers unknown users?
    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,
Unfortunately there is no way to do this ACS use SNMP only for logging.
ACS does not have this kind of alert. I will suggest to contact your account manager and open a new feature request.

  • [solved] VSFTPD + Virtual Users + different home directories

    Hi All,
I've been trying to get VSFTPD setup to allow ftp access to some of my clients to access their web files. I've got VSFTPD up and running via the Wiki, but my virtual users can't log in. The only thing that I didn't do from the wiki was the "useradd virtual" as I didn't think it was needed. Also, the wiki only covers one directory for all users, I want to have each user to have access to their own web directory and nothing else.  I think I may just have something a little off in my vsftpd file. Thanks!

    Hi GravityGripp,
as posted at the beginning of the thread in /etc/vsftpd.conf the 'pam_service_name' option is 'vsftpd' but here you are referencing /etc/pam.d/ftp as PAM service name but in vsftpd.conf you told to use 'vsftpd' as PAM service for auth.
About your need to define different directory for each ftp virtual user in my installation I allow ftp access to virtual users (defined in MySQL and auth  via pam_mysql); to let users have access to their own ftp directory (with different auth read only / read-write) I used the user_config_dir option (see man vsftpd.conf).
Here an extract of my '/etc/vsftpd.conf':
    # This powerful option allows the override of any config option specified
    # in the manual page, on a per-user basis. Usage is simple, and is best
    # illustrated with an example. If you set user_config_dir to be /etc/vsftpd_user_conf
    # and then log on as the user "chris", then vsftpd will apply the settings
    # in the file /etc/vsftpd_user_conf/chris for the duration of the session.
    # Default: (none)
    user_config_dir=/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf
Each time I add a new ftp virtual user that need a personal ftp directory, under the dir '/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf' I create a file named as the username where I define the personal ftp directory and the auth on it (RO or RW).
Example for user 'test' (file '/etc/vsftpd/vsftpd-user-conf/test'):
    # vsftpd per-user basis config file (override of any config option specified
    # in the vsftpd server config file)
    # TEMPLATE
    # User test - Description for user test
    # Set local root
    local_root=/srv/vsftpd/test
    # Disable any form of FTP write command.
    # Allowed values: YES/NO
    write_enable=YES
Of course the dir must exist and have the right permissions to allow the user to connect.
Hope that this will be of help.
    bye

  • 802.1x with AD support via ACS 4

    Hello ,
I have been trying to configure 802.1x Authentication on a test switch . Authentication will be provided by the ACS server . This worked when I had the client setup for EAP-MD5 and had local user accounts on the ACS server . However this is impractical if we were to deploy this on a large scale. How can i configure 802.1X authentication to occur via the ACS with the ACS looking at the AD database . The trouble is AD does not support EAP-MD5. It supports PEAP but the problem I am having is "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake "
Has anyone here setup 802.1x with AD integration via ACS 4.0 . Please help.
    Thanks.
    Karthik

    Hi Karthik,
The SSL handshake will fail in our experience for any of the following reasons:
    - The supplicant cannot access the private key corresponding to it's certificate - check that the system a/c has pemissions over the private key found in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\crypto\rsa\machine keys
    - The ACS sever does not trust the Root Certificate for the PKI that issued the supplicants certificate - Is the Supplicants Root CA present in the ACS Certificate Trust List?
    - CRL checking is enabled and the CRL has expired or is inaccessible
If you up the logging levels to full and examine the csauth log closely you should get more detail as to the reason
    Hope that helps
    Andy

  • ANM device importing and config sync - user name authenticatiing via ACS

    Good day,
    We have the following issue:
Switches and ACE modules imported into ANM 3.2. Additional modules added and tried to import. Failed. Tried to sync and recieved the following message for Admin context:
    - Failed to import ACE configuration: Device discovery failed: cannot find the serial number.
All other contexts also fail to sync.
Thought this may be due fact that the user Id used for import is and AD account and this authenticates via ACS to AD and this has expired and changed since original import. Deleted chassis and re-impoted with same user Id and new password and all works fine.
Have checked the links below, however, I don't beleive these will resolve the issue:

I beleive this is occuring due the fact that we are authenticating via ACS to AD for all devices (switches and ACE modules) as well as ANM.
So is the only solution here to create a static user account in ACS and add to relevent NDG's for switches and ACE modules?
Also would we have to have the password never expire as I don't see a way to change/configure this password within ANM apart from when the devices are initially imported?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance.

  • AD SSO "unknown user" error

    Hi all,
I've been having trouble with AD SSO on NAC deployed in L2 OOB VG mode.
Users are getting a message that says:
    Unknown user
Please contact your administrator if the problem persists.
I check the event logs in the NAC Manager and it says "Unknown user via ADSSO, [MAC_ADDRESS ## IP_ADDRESS] user@DOMAIN"
The AS SSO service is shown as "started" for the NAC Server however, running the command "netstat -a | grep 8910" at the terminal returns nothing.
I also try an auth test to see if there was a problem with the agent but that shows up with the same "unknown user" error.
I tried creating an LDAP authentication server with the same options as the LDAP lookup server for AD SSO and I get the same error.
The AD SSO was working a few days ago and the System Admin says he hasn't changed anything in the domain controller. I haven't changed anything else in the NAC config except I started rolling it out to more users.
Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

    Hi huicab,
The problem was that the LDAP user in the AD was in the wrong OU. I'm not the sys admin so I'm just telling you what he told me lol.
We sniffed the port of the AD server and he realised that the credentials were being denied by AD even though no failed login attempts were logged in the system (weird =/). So he did some stuff on the user, double checked the password and all the other values and it started working. I have no clue how come it stopped working though. Now that you mention it, it was probably a security patch in the domain controller that stops users in a certian OU or outside of a certain OU from doing certain stuff. I dunno I'm really not a Windows guy but I'd recommend using Wireshark to sniff the Domain Controller's NIC at the time of the AD SSO login attempts to see what packets it gets and what reply it sends out, then you can take action from there.
    Hope this helps!
    ~ Xavier

  • ACS support Kerberos User Database?

    Hi,
I've a customer currently having kerberos user database. I proposed to him to implement ACS to enable 802.1x on wireless client. Can ACS support or integrate with Kerberos User Database? If yes, any user guide which list out the steps on doing so?
I searched through Cisco website but failed to find any info related to the integration of ACS with Kerberos User Database.
    Thank.
    Delon

For network users who are authenticated by a Windows user database, Cisco Secure ACS supports user-changeable passwords upon password expiration. You can enable this feature in the MS-CHAP Settings and Windows EAP Settings tables on the Windows User Database Configuration page in the External User Databases section.

  • Airport Takeover by Unknown User

I need some help, please: since a couple of hours an unknown user has taken over my airport network (probably one of my neighbors has installed a new WiFi system) . His/her name appears in the "Network" selection, but is password-protected, while mine, using the 802.11b protocol has disappeared. The result of all this is that I cannot connect to the internet by airport (right now I am using Ethernet directly to my Comcast box).
My Airport Admin Utility is 4.2.3. (I know, it's dated). I have no idea, however, how to and where to change the settings to take control again, so you would have to walk me through this step-by-step, please.

All right, it looks like we are hitting our first snag:
If I open airport utility, it doesn't even see my base station. After clicking on the "Other" tab, I get this:
"The AirPort Admin Utility was unable to read the configuration of the selected base station". "An error occurred while reading the configuration".
okay, try a +factory restore+ of the unit. pull it from power, stick a pointy object into the reset button at the back of the unit and keep pressing while you re-connect to power until the status light flashes rapidly (5-10 seconds). this will erase all settings but as things stand it don't make much difference.
launch keychaine access, click on passwords and delete every entry pertaining to your old network name and base station passwords.
turn off airport on your machine and connect extreme and Mac by ethernet cable. launch airport utility and, after a little while, the extreme should show up in the left part of the window.
try uploading the firmware you downloaded earlier now. click upload and navigate to the download. click update. if it won't let you before setting the extreme up, we'll get to that later.
click configure and in the airport tab, give your extreme a new name and click on +change password+. you can safely use your old password.
click on +change wireless security+ and see if you can set it to WPA personal. choose a non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers.
click on +bases station options+. i gave my old extreme to my mom some time ago so i can't recall exactly what will come up here but i believe you will be able to +limit access+ to the extreme in here. i think there will be a little + sign and if you click on it, you will be able to add +this computer+. if you hit okay the MAC address of your Mac will be added to the list. now only your Mac (or devices which MAC addresses you add manually) will be able to connect to this base station.
now comes the point where you choose on which channel your extreme will broadcast. see the notes you made from using iStumbler. if your neighbor is broadcasting on e.g. channel 1, you'll want 11 or something like that.
in the internet tab, you will have to enter the login details provided by your ISP.
Hier ist es auch kalt! Wie kriege ich screen snapshots in diese message serie? Dann braeuchte ich nicht immer alles per hand aufzuschreiben, was ich in den dialogfenstern sehe?
easy. you will have to take screen shots and upload those to a web server. google +upload picture+.
use +img src=*paste image address here*+ and put < before image and > at the end. paste the complete thing in your post.
    i'd be especially interested in the +base station options+ and +wireless options+

  • Unknown user name or bad password issue while creating AD accounts

    Hi All,
While creating accounts on AD through IdM, I am getting below error. Sometimes I don't see this error while sometimes I do. What could be the actual reason ?
com.waveset.util.WavesetException: Error opening object 'LDAP://cn=ut9778ug,ou=Employee USA,ou=Users,ou=CorpHQ,dc=corpz,dc=utcz,dc=com': ADsOpenObject(): 0X8007052E: , , Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
    Please help me out.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I just faced the same problem while provisionning account on AD through Sun Identity Manager Gateway. (I'm in Oracle Waveset 8 patch 6)
When I test configuration on the configuration page of my AD resource, everything was ok, but when i tried to create / update account on AD, i had the same error. (when i forced a bad password for example, the test configuration was in error, so i know that was ok)
I resolved the problem using IP address in "LDAP Server Name" instead of url or host name. I don't understand because 'ping' on url and test configuration on resource were ok.
I hope it will be usefull for you
    Nicolas
