802.1x authentication on Macbooks running Lion..

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with 802.1x authentication on their Cisco Wifi network using Macbook Pro/Airs running Lion.
We have..
2x Controllers with WiSMs running 7.0.116.0
A mixture of 1131 and 1142 APs..  ( APs mainly in HREAP mode with some APs located on the same local network as the Controller in Local Mode )
Macbook Airs/ Pro running Lion
The symptoms we are experiencing are very similar to those described in this thread.. https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3485552
In summary, we are finding that when our MacBooks are coming out of sleep/standby or roaming between APs, the devices get stuck during the 802.1x authentication process and will either get the self assigned 169 address or continuously try to authenticate.
This can occasionally be solved by turning the wifi interface off and on or manually stopping and starting the 802.1x process on the Mac
From reading various online forums, we have tried the following to resolve this..
- Disabled WPA across our wifi network as we don't use it anymore.. We now just use WPA2 with AES and Dot1x authentication.
- Disabled Client Load Balancing on the SSID configuration… this does not seem to have made things any better or worse although we are seeing more Load Profile threshold notification alerts for some of our APs which are used heavily.
- The 802.1x time out is currently set at 20secs.
- Some APs which are in Local mode ( due to them being on the same local network as our wifi controllers ) have been changed to HREAP mode and assigned a static IP address.. We found that this was required at our spoke sites where we were originally experiencing issues with our old Windows based devices.. Incidentally, we have not experienced any of these delayed authentication issues with our Window laptops, all our problems seem to be with our MacBooks running Lion..
As I mentioned earlier, there seems to be many discussions online regarding problems with the Lion OS and 802.1x authentication..
Has anyone experienced these problems in the past on there Cisco Aps and successfully managed to resolve it.. ?
Any ideas would be appreciated..
Many thanks.
Jon.

Ran across this old post while researching this same issue. For us, the problem appears to be with the Mac's trying to request an IPv6 address if set to Automatically or Link-local only for Configure IPv6 under the TCP/IP tab. When we changed this to Manually and set a manual link local address, the problem went away and could reconnect after roaming between APs or coming out of sleep/standby.
Enjoy,
Wayne
UPDATE 1: This 'fix' did not solve the issue. After a day, we're still seeing the problem.
UPDATE 2: Found the solution to my problem. It was the cert chain of trust and CRL lookup. The link below describes the problem, but basically the Mac's were unable to check the certs and causing a time out. No network = no CRL lookup = no network......

  • IPad2 and a new MacBook running Lion, Both Devices use the same Apple ID which is a Hotmail eMail id. Can I create a new iCloud eMail Id and use iCloud eMail and continue to use my Hotmail Id for my Apple Id and use it for iTunes, iCloud

I have an iPad2 and a new MacBook running Mountain Lion. Both Devices use the same Apple ID which is a Hotmail eMail id. Can I create a new iCloud eMail Id and use iCloud eMail and continue to use my current Hotmail Id for my Apple Id for iTunes, iCloud.
Note, I will use both Hotmail and iCloud eMail.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

  • Will Macbook running Lion get me into iCloud?

I have a Powerbook G4 (tough machine ) running Leopard but I can not access the iCloud.
Is there any way to access the iCloud with the G4?
Apparantley I Have to be able to run Lion.
I actually want to get a Macbook Pro but they are $7  (used) and the Macbook is $3. (used)
So many choices but lots of time.

No MacBook has an i7 processor. They were discontinued before those came out. The MacBooks had a Core Duo (in the early 2006 model 1,1) and Core 2 Duo (in the Late 2006 model 2,1 through the last MacBook the Mid 2010 model 7,1). Only the MacBook Pros had the i5 and i7 processors.

A1181 refers to 17 different MacBooks. It's is simply the white or black case that was used for MacBooks from 2006 through 2009. And 8 MacBooks had a 2.0Ghz processor.

  • Macbook running Lion not connecting to internet

Alright this is a problem that just came up recently, for me and the other macbook user in the house (Macbook pro running leopard)
The internet would fail to connect, after inputting the correct password it would display "connection timeout" and act as if the network password was wrong.
I also can't connect to the internet via the ethernet cable either.
The internet is working via ethernet to the main PC in the house and via wireless to my smartphone, but the two macbooks can't connect. There wasn't anything that's changed recently that could have caused the problem, I upgraded to Lion months ago, and have used the internet without difficulty until now.
So far I have deleted and re created the wireless settings on my computer and deleted the keychain information for the network, reset the network encryption and reset the router/modem various times, and so far nothing has worked.
I would be thankful for any help that you could offer.

As an update, I managed to connect via Ethernet. Still no luck with Wi-Fi though.

  • I recently updated to FF 9.0.1. I am on a macbook running lion. Since the update, I can no longer type just mozilla or cnn without having to type the whole address. How do I fix this?

I was able to fix this issue on the last update of FF in the console of FF. Now I am unable to find the command that allows the browser to automatically find the address I am looking for. I know it is not "Autofill". What happens is, I type just "mozilla" or "cnn" and it takes me to my isp's search. Instead of taking me to the most likely site.
Here is where it takes me - http://dnssearch.rr.com/index.php?origURL=http%3A//mozilla/&r=
    Can anyone help?

That "fix" may not work completely or all the time. Road Runner has been re-directing failed DNS requests for almost 3 years now.

  • Just bought a MacBook 11" Running Lion, Where did the Audio Input Selector go?

    Hello,
I'm a digital performance artist, and I'm preparing a new 11" MacBook Air for use as my main computer in the desert at this year's BurningMan. My software must use the built in line input to process an audio signal. On my 13" MacBook running Snow Leopard, in the audio preferences, I am able to choose to "use the 1/8" audio jack for:" input or output. On the new 11" MacBook Running Lion, I do not have that featurte yet the Audio input is mentioned in the documentation I read before acquiring it. How do I enable the audio input? If it is a Lion issue, is it possible to downgrade to Snow Leopard until Audio Line In is supported?
Any help would be great. I'm looking for something like "defaults write com.apple.xxx.AudoInputSelector -bool YES"
    Thanks!
    Sid

Free upgrades to Mountain Lion already ended, so now you have to pay to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. I recommend you to return the MacBook Pro and get another one with Mountain Lion if you want. Another option is to wait until Apple launches Mavericks and upgrade to that version

  • Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS

My Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS. I thought this might be because I'd used a lot of disk space but I've now reduced that - I'm only using 40 of the 320 gb available. I have no games and I've unchecked the "re-open windows" option on shutdown. The rest of the preformance (once in) remains good.

41 seconds is actually a little faster then normal. Boot from completely off is normally around 45-50 seconds.
Your computer never ever came on almost instantaneously from completely off. You are confusing waking up from sleep mode and booting the computer from completely off.

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
Not sure, I'll have to check them.
I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

  • I have a Macbook which is running Snow Leopard. I back up using time machine to an external drive. If I purchase a new Apple Macbook pro running Lion if I use the backup to this will I be able to use Leopard on the new computer

I have a Macbook running Snow Leopard which I back up to an external drive using time machine.  If I purchase a new MacBook pro and transfer backup from time maching to MacBook Pro will it also transfer Snow Leopard as its is my preferred O.S.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If the new computer did not originally ship with Snow Leopard installed, no, you will not be able to go back from Lion. Snow Leopard lacks the necessary drivers required for newer hardware.

  • My Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7 will no longer connect to either my HP or Epson printers. Both printers report that they are connected to the correct wireless network and until 2 weeks ago work perfectly.

My Macbook pro running Lion 10.7 will not connect via a wireless network to either of my printers, Epson and HP. Both printers report an excellent connection to the correct network. The Macbook reports "printer not found"
Until 2 weeks ago all worked well. Both printers makes me think some setting in the computer must have changed.
    Any suggestions?

System Preferences>Fax & Scan. Delete the printers and re-add them back in.
