802.1x Authentication with Windows and MAC

Hello Team;
I have one SSID configured with 802.1x . The clients with Mac machines can directly join to the network by just entering the AD usrename and password. For the windows machines we need to do some configuration in the clients machines to work with the SSID.
Could you please clarify ? Whether the windows machines will just work like the Mac or the preconfiguration is mandatory to work windows with 802.1x.

Hello Sreejith,
As per your query i can suggest you the following steps-
No, the preconfiguration is not mandatory to work windows with 802.1x.To enable 802.1x authntication on wireless follow the steps-
1.Open Manage Wireless Networks by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then, in the left pane, clicking Manage wireless networks.
2.Right-click the network that you want to enable 802.1X authentication for, and then click Properties.
3.Click the Security tab, and then, in the Security Type list, click 802.1X.
4.In the Encryption Type list, click the encryption type you want to use.
On wireless networks, 802.1X can be used with Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi‑Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption.
5.In the Choose a network authentication method list, click the method you want to use.
To configure additional settings, click Settings.
Hope this will help you.

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.

  • Working with windows and mac

I have a TC 500GB is it possible to back up windows and mac in same time. Please help.

DdeGannes many thanks for this.  Would it be a simple case of backing up by external drive, formatting and then putting the files back?  Also in the unlikely event that I have a video file more than 4GB am I likley to encounter any problems with this?
    Thanks

  • Portable Hard drive formating for use with windows and mac operating system

Just bought a verbatim sure fire 500g 800 firewire portable hard drive for my new macbook pro. I have not did bootcamp yet because I am deciding on wether to use Vista or the new windows 7 that will be coming out soon. The drive is already formated HFS+, how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it. Help!!!

how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it.
Either format it to MS-DOS from the DIsk Utility, or install a tool such as MacDrive into Windows and keep the drive in its current format, or install the NTFS-3G driver into Mac OS X and format the drive to NTFS in Windows.

  • Radius 802.1x authentication with computer AND users.

    Hi !
I don't know if what I trying to do is possible so please excuse me if this sounds silly :)
    I have a Cisco Wireless lan manager where I've configure 2 differents SSID's : COMPANY and COMPANY_mobiles.
What I want is to create a policy to restrict the access to the COMPANY SSID to only my company laptops with authenticaded users (both groups exists in the AD).
Therefore I created a new policy with the following conditons :
    - NAS Port Type : Wireless
    - Client IPv4 Address : <my cisco ip>
    - Called Station ID : ^AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF:COMPANY$
    - Users Groups : EUROPE\MY_USER_GROUP
    - Machine Groups : EUROPE\Domain Computers
When trying to connect a notebook on windows 7 to that COMPANY ssid, I'm beeing rejected with the following error :
    User:
        Security ID:            EUROPE\HOSTNAME$
        Account Name:            host/HOSTNAME.my.server.com
        Account Domain:            EUROPE
        Fully Qualified Account Name:    EUROPE\HOSTNAME$
    Authentication Details:
Connection Request Policy Name:    Secure Wireless Connections
Network Policy Name:        Connections to other access servers
        Authentication Provider:        Windows
        Authentication Server:       My.radius.server.com
        Authentication Type:        EAP
        EAP Type:            -
        Account Session Identifier:        -
Logging Results:            Accounting information was written to the local log file.
        Reason Code:            65
Reason:                The Network Access Permission setting in the dial-in properties of the user account in Active Directory is set to Deny access to the user. To change the Network
Access Permission setting to either Allow access or Control access through NPS Network Policy, obtain the properties of the user account in Active Directory Users and Computers, click the Dial-in tab, and change Network Access Permission.
It therefore seems that it doesn't match my network policy and falls bacj to the default one.
If I remove the user rule, and let the computer rule : Connection OK
If I remove the computer rule, and let the user rule : Connection OK
    but if I put both, i can't connect :s
Can someone help me with this issue ?
    Thanks a lot !
    Geoffrey

    Hi Geoffrey,
I would like to know if
EAP-TLS wireless authentication has been used since it uses user and computer certificates to authenticate wireless access clients.
Please try to use NPS wizard to configure 802.1x wireless connection,
    and
    you will find that it
creates new connection request policy and network policy. Network policy NAS Port type will be "Wireless -Other OR Wireless -IEEE 802.11".If
    you
need filter by user and computer account, the log should show both authenticate user and machine account name.

  • IPod formatting with windows and mac

    alright fellas,
I have a problem! i recently got a mac and i already had a nano, not the ones with the video; the long thin one, with photos (i think its a 3rd generation).
So i do alot of transfering files between a windows computer and mac, my main computer is a mac but everywhere else i use pc's. i have got the problem that i want to be able to sync my iPod on my mac but use it to take my files into uni, so it needs to work with pc's
at the moment its formatted to mac so it doesent show up when its connected to a pc
if i format it on a pc then when i reconnect it ill just have to format it again to sync with my library? arghhhh!
maybe im missing something really obvious, any help would be appericated! thanks alot

*if i format it on a pc then when i reconnect it ill just have to format it again to sync with my library? arghhhh!*
Macs can read Windows formatting so you should have no problem connecting your iPod to your Mac once it's been restored and reformatted on a PC. One proviso is that up until now Apple has only fully supported using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac (unless the range has been expanded to include the iPhone and the iPod Touch which I've no experience of). What this means effectively is that if you need to apply a firmware update for your iPod and you wanted to maintain the Windows format you would have to do it on a PC. If you were to try and update a Windows based iPod on a Mac it would be restored and reformatted to the Mac file system and have the Mac firmware installed.
One other thing, if you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Desktop publishing software compatible with windows and mac?

I am trying to help the kids at my daughter's school produce their own newspaper.
Apart from Word (which I can't get to do what I want!) is there anything out there compatible with both operating systems. The school PCs have MS Publisher 2003 installed. I am working on a mac using Quark and InDesign. I created the last newspaper for them but I'd like the kids to get more involved if possible and enable them to have some input when it comes to creating it. Other than having to do it myself or even worse invite 60 kids into my home is there anything out there?!!!

    Hi Grace,
if you use QuarkXPress 7 or 8, you can actually legally install/activate *the same* license *on two* machines, even cross-platform. You are just allowed to use one installation concurrently.
So you could test it on Windows and if the student like it, a student copy is extremely cheap.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Matthias

  • IPod working simultaneously with windows and mac

Isn't there any way to get an iPod (from a mac) to work with windows without having to format the iPod? It's sad because I always had macs, and I have one at home- source of my iPod, and I work with windows during the day and all I wanted was to ear my music at the office...
Hope there is a solution for this one without erasing my iPod...

    --- It doesn't work.
iPod is compatible either with Macs and PCs, but you can choose only one... or working in several PCs, or working in several Macs...

  • Best format for external HDD for compatibility with Windows and Mac?

I have a couple of USB HDDs formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32)  which I use on both my iMac and Toshiba laptop  .
This week I discovered that I could have used  exFAT  which would have avoided the 4GB file limitation.
Apart from this, are there any other pros or cons associated with  exFAT  and would it be advisable to use this formatting in future?

I am cross using extern HDD and USB Stick's. Win7 64 and OSX 10.9. I had the best results when i format the drive with OSX (best cluster size by automatic). I am using small 16GB USB Stick's and large 2TB HDD.
Some Windows Programs does not work if they are not installed on NTFS and you also have no security on both systems in filesystem because exFat has no security. Could be also a bad idea to use a exFat drive for iPhoto Library but not tested.
I use exFat for Data like Music, Pictures, and Movies. To share home made things with friends and family.
If you use "active" Files like programs or databases use the "OS Native" filesystem, you have less problems :-)

  • External Hard Drive to be used with windows and Mac

    I shall paint the picture;
I have a very nice mobile hard drive on it's way to me, and I shall be upgrading to leopard at some point soon after receiving it, my MBP has a 120gb internal HDD and the external on it's way is 160gb .
I will be using it as a time machine HD , but will also be using it to transfer from my mac to college/university PCs.
So, do any of ya'l out there know a good way of going about it? My thoughts are along the lines of creating a separate windows/mac partition because Time Machine I assume uses HFS+ and as far as I am aware, windows is unable to use this.
I am not 100% sure on this so any help or corrections or indeed alternate solutions are welcome.
Only requirements are that it's with my MBP and G-Tech G-Drive mini only, no extra bits and bobs.
    Thank you in advance

A 160 GB drive may be a bit small to use to back up a 120GB drive with TimeMachine... and have a separate partition to use for Windows files. While your MacBook Pro's 120GB drive may not be close to full yet... it will likely continue to grow in time. TimeMachine keeps multiple copies of files that you change allowing you to go "back in time" to various points. It will use as much space as is available on the drive. You may want to keep a larger external desktop drive for your TimeMachine backup... or dedicate your entire 160GB to it.

  • Dual formatting with windows and mac

ive just bought a mac book and want to use my i pod photo but its windows formatted how can i reformat to mac(or both mac and windows)without losing all my songs and photos (i know you can erase etc but ill lose all my songs etc -can i sync with my windows pc???

Macs can read Windows formatting but Windows can't read Mac formatting so unless you are getting an error message asking you to restore, you should be able to use your iPod as it is. Officially Apple currently only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. However, what this means effectively is that if you need to apply a firmware update for your iPod and you wanted to maintain the Windows format you would have to do it on a PC. If you were to try and update a Windows based iPod on a Mac it would be restored and reformatted to the Mac file system and have the Mac firmware installed. The only other thing you'll need to do is to set your iPod to manual update. You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.

I have a emachine PC. And I just purchase a ibook G4. My concern is: I am about to connect to the internet witn MSN. Can i used the same with both, Mac and Windows? I mean, the same internet connection?

All you'll need is a router. You can get a wireless one or a wired one. They're pretty cheap.

  • Lightroom: Working with Windows and Mac OS

Previously I have been using MS Windows forever.  Now I have seen the light and bought a MacBook Pro.  My problem is that I cannot open my Lightroom Catalog on the MBP.  I believe this is to do with the file system the drive is formatted to (NTFS not FAT32?).
I store my catalog AND original raw files on the external drive.  I understand this is not best practice however I have a notebook for mobile work and a desktop PC with a calibrated screen for heavier work.  The notebook is a MBP and the desktop is a Windows PC.
My question is, is there a way of formatting the external hard disk so it can be used by both systems?  If so, would simply moving all the content to another drive, formatting and then moving back be sufficient ?  Also I have no idea how to format a disk from Mac! (I am new to apple)
    Many thanks for any advice.
