802.1x log out hang
I've got our SL server running as a Radius server authenticating against our AD and all appears fine. Clients log in, get an IP and then let the user in. However when a user logs out the login window hangs with the spinning wheel until the machine is rebooted. The system log fills up with these messages:-
20/01/2010 14:18:17 kernel AFP_VFS afpfs_DoReconnect: sock_ioctl for new socket on /Network/Library failed 22.
20/01/2010 14:18:17 kernel AFP_VFS afpfs_DoReconnect: sleep for 10 seconds and then try again
That makes sense, when the user logs out the machine disconnects from the network and can't connect to the shares. The question is how do I stop it trying until another user logs in?
Some time it's happen. For configuration Help you can see the below link

Log Out is constantly hanging, forcing me to constantly force a shut down.
Any ideas?Hi papa-kostas,
Based on your post, it seems you are experiencing slow performance and freezing when logging out of your Mac. I have linked to an article that provides a series of potential fixes:
OS X Yosemite: If your Mac runs slowly
If you find your Mac is running slowly, there are a number of potential causes that you can check.
An app you’re using may require more memory than your computer has easily available. To see how much memory your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Memory. See the help that came with the app to see its system requirements.
To find out how to increase your computer’s memory, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, click Memory, then click Memory Upgrade Instructions in the lower-left corner. documentation that came with the app to its system requirements.
To see what processor your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Overview.
To see what graphics card your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Displays. The name of the graphics card in your computer is displayed in the middle of the window.
Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, move files to another disk, then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk.
Quit any apps you’re not using.
If you have problems with your disk, use Disk Utility to verify and try and fix any issues.
Use Activity Monitor to see if a particular app or activity is making a large demand on your Mac.

10.5.8 Hangs on Log-Out on iBook G4
Problem started using this strategy
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9952610#9952610
Problem occurs in 10.5.8 when I log-out/log-in between the two accounts on the machine. After going back and forth two or three times log-out hangs. Log-out usually goes to Log-in screen quickly when it doesn't hang.
I've been Googling for an hour and have seen a number of discussions re Leopard and this issue; however, no definitive solution.
To be clear: iBook G4 was running 10.4.11, upgraded to 10.5.6 using DVD then using the comboUpd dmg updated to 10.5.8. Note, I did repair permission before running the comboUpd.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.Do you have an external usb device connected when you logged out?
I had the same encounter. I had to cold restart my Macbook. But according to my Windows knowledge, I have figured that the external usb hard drive is the culprit. For a second time and with curiousity I logged out after I remove my usb hub with a hard drive to it. The log out seemed quite normal then. The usb mouse didn't cause any problem.
So my advice: remove the usb hard drive before you log out or sleep. -
KDEmod hangs when logging out, rebooting etc
Hello
I just did a reinstall of Arch, and decided to try KDEmod for the first time. Unfortunately when I try logging out, or rebooting, all that happens is that I get a black screen with a cursor and then it just hangs like that. Does anyone know what's happening?
Thankshi John, I was able to recreate the hanging InDesign when the Folio Panel is docked (as it is inside InDesign - Digital Publishing Workspace), and when I try the same logout process with the Folio Panel as a floating panel everythings works fine.
Hope you can fix this,

My Macbook Pro keeps crashing and logging out frequently, continuously
My Macbook Pro early 2011, memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, 2GHz intel Core i7, Mountain LIon 10.8.2
It keeps crashing and pushing me to "log-in" window. At first, it only happened mostly when I was using Google Chrome but then I removed Chrome and used Safari, it still happened and the times are more frequently.
I backed everything all up and reinstalled Mountain Lion and everything again. At the moment my Macbook Pro was upgraded the memory to 8GB of Corsair and it still crashed and loged me out. The Apple guy asked me to remove the 8GB memory and replace with the original one from Apple. I did and ir run smoothly for like 3 days and it happened AGAIN and since then it keeps crashing and logging out and hanging some softwares..
And today is the limit, my macbook Pro has kept crashing CONTINOUSLY and I had to restart and shut down like 5 times.
It is real annoying and affect to my works.
I just updated the latest from Apple (the java) today and I was wishing it would stop crashing but still.
The Crash Reports are most of WindowServer but today it is more: hidd and SecurityAgent and some softwares are hang like Skype, Adobe, iTune and VLC.

After extended sleep mode, I cannot log out and computer will not shut down.
The first symptom of a problem that I noticed was that after waking from an extended sleep (i.e. overnight), the screen saver no longer worked and would not auto-start. I thought this was a problem with the screen saver and called Apple support. During the troubleshooting process, I was instructed to shut down the computer, but could not do so. I was forced to hold power button to force shut down. We ran disk utility and repair permission in an attempt to correct the screen saver issue. After rebooting the screen saver worked, but this issue remained a watch item.
The next day, after the computer awakened from auto sleep mode (overnight), same problem. Screen saver failed to start, I could not start it from the assigned hot corner, and I could not log out or shut down. When selecting log out or shut down, error messages would appear to the effect "log out timed out because Mail would not quit." The Mail program was not active in the dock, and when I tried to Force Quit, it would not display in the list of programs to force quit. I also noticed that Time Machine could not find the external drive. I had to hold down power button and reboot to resume normal operation.
I cannot resolve these problems.
Here is my configuration: Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz with 1GB memory. Upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. I have an Admin account & parental controlled account. Power save is set to sleep automatically after 1 hour, and screen saver is set to auto-start after 5 minutes. Computer wakes daily at 5:30 am. I have set a password for screen saver. Time Machine is set to "On" to backup to 250GB LaCie Firewire external hard drive. No content barrier software installed. I have removed all programs from Startup folder.
I plan to call Apple support again, but in the meantime, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.Hi there EEP1 - I have had the same problem with my Mac Mini for years and cannot solve it either. When my Mac comes awake from sleep Mail usually looks for new mail and hangs indefinitely. I try and quit or force quit and this will stay in the dock. I'm not sure whether Mail is the problem or not, but it seems to take out actions associated with file control in the Finder [saving, quitting, shutting down, force quitting etc.]. It's really frustrating and I'm sure it's not healthy to force restart each time it does this.
Did you manage to call Apple again? Or find any other soloutions? It's a tricky search term to define when looking for advice from forums!
Many thanks, Ben -
Automatic log-out after 20 minutes working in a layout
Hello
We have an automatic log-out of the layout after 20 minutes of work. The time out is set up at 58 minutes. Does anyone know of a paramater in a 3.0B that would trigger this log-out ? Something separate from the main time-out ?
Regards
FabriceIt is not different from main time-out as per my understanding.
As step 1, pls check your patch level to SEM. The current patch level is 12.
Step 2: The time-out/idle time parameters are set by the Basis consultant. Please explain to your Basis person and he/she will help you out.
Step 3: Have you checked that whether you are locked? whether your transactions take longer or longest time to excute? or hangs over? Then it may be a software bug. Please take-up with SAP OSS support.
PS: Please award suitable points if the answers provide direction and clue. -
Problem logging out from xmonad
Dear Everyone:
I updated my system on monday 3/11, and since then have had the following strange behavior: When I go to log out of my X session (by pressing super-shift-q, which sends the logout message through xmonad), my xdm login screen fails to appear as it should. Instead, everything just seems to hang. I have a blank screen, and hitting ctrl-alt-F2 (F3 or F4, etc. etc.) does not open a new terminal.
I was too busy to deal with this last week, and so updated again today, hoping the problem would be fixed. But the problem continues.
I realize this is a vague post. Could someone give me some guidance as to how I might go about diagnosing the problem. (I thought of dmesg -- but of course I can't run it right after I've logged out when the problem seems to occur.)
Thanks!
-StuThanks for the response .nz.
first of all, I've not been keeping good enough track of when this problem started relative to my updates to know where to look in my pacman logs. However, I can be pretty detailed about everything else:
Here is the current status of my system:
1) I've uninstalled xdm entirely.
2) I set the default target to multi-user (i.e. ran sudo systemctl enable multi-user.target)
here is my .xinitrc:
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
setxkbmap -option ctrl:swapcaps
xrdb -merge .Xresources
xsetroot -solid black
exec xmonad
and here is my xmonad.hs:
import XMonad
import XMonad.Hooks.ManageDocks -- imports stuff to keep bars/trays visible
import XMonad.Util.Run(spawnPipe) -- imports spawnPipe through which we start xmobar
import XMonad.Hooks.DynamicLog
import System.IO
main = do
spawn "trayer --edge top --align right --SetDockType true --SetPartialStrut true --expand true --width 10 --height 12"
spawn "dropboxd start"
spawn "xmobar"
xmonad $ defaultConfig
{ manageHook = manageDocks <+> myManageHook <+> manageHook defaultConfig
, layoutHook = avoidStruts $ layoutHook defaultConfig
, logHook = dynamicLogString defaultPP{ppCurrent = xmobarColor "blue" "gray", ppSep = "|", ppOrder = \(ws:_:t:_) -> [ws,t]} >>= xmonadPropLog
, borderWidth = 5
, terminal = "urxvt"
, normalBorderColor = "#3399cc"
, focusedBorderColor = "#33ff00"
, modMask = mod4Mask
, workspaces = ["1:shell","2:emacs","3:web","4:pdf","5:audio","6:draw","7","8"]
myManageHook = composeAll
[ className =? "Firefox" --> doShift "3:web"
, className =? "URxvt" --> doShift "1:shell"
, className =? "Emacs" --> doShift "2:emacs"
, className =? "Audacious" --> doShift "5:audio"
, className =? "Evince" --> doShift "4:pdf"
, className =? "Inkscape" --> doShift "6:draw"
Now, here is what I have done leading up to my current problem:
1) started up, which resulted in me reaching the multiuser target, and thus a login prompt in a terminal
2) logged in
3) ran 'sudo echo "" > /var/log/Xorg.0.log' to make sure that everything that was going into the log file in the subsequent steps was from the coming session of X
3) ran xinit. This resulting in a fully working X session with xmonad acting exactly as I want it to
4) hit super-shift-q (which is the key that is supposed to kill xmonad and the X server, and how I used to log out of my system when I was using xdm)
The problem is what happens at that point: The screen goes black, then I see a message on my screen that says "entering powersave mode". At that point, the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive -- no pressing of keys seems to wake my machine up. Ideally, I'd like this not to happen, and instead return to a login prompt after super-shift-q.
my video card is AMD ATI RV530GL
my video driver is xf86-video-ati
Here is the Xorg.0.log resulting after I rebooted my machine back to the multi-user target:

GDM cannot login after logging out.
I have configured autologin for my account. It works when I restart/startup. But when I logout, and try re-login (with my account configured for autologin), it "hangs" for awhile then goes back to use selection, just like described in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1211651. Then I try logging in using "Not listed", and enter my username, it gives "Invalid UTF-8"
Last edited by jiewmeng (2013-01-06 08:49:07)hmm. make sure the login window is using the correct keyboard layout. while logged in, go to system preferences->accounts->login options and check the box to show input menu at the login window. then log out and verify that the correct keyboard layout is being used. that's the only thing i can think of that could be causing something like this.

Log Message:
Bug: 2780176 - Logging and logging out multiple times in LCDS can cause duplicate session detected errors.
QA: Yes
Doc: No
Checkintests: Pass
Details: When a logout was followed by an immediate login, sometimes the server would throw duplicate session detected errors. This was because when logout happened, a fire-and-forget disconnect message was sent to the server that established a new session, and if the subsequent login happened before disconnect ACK returned from the server, that would establish another session and hence the error. The fix is to insert a slight delay between disconnect and ResultEvent dispatching. This way, disconnect has a chance to return before a login is performed.
Modified Paths:
flex/sdk/trunk/frameworks/projects/rpc/src/mx/messaging/ChannelSet.asYou've got an incompatible Logitech driver and java was incompletely uninstalled.
You may have a problem with the Wacom driver.
I don't know if fixing those things will help.
There also a few window server errors, but I don't know if they are causal.
If you can note the time of the hangs, that might help narrow it down in the logs. -

Kindly suggest why this happens.
I have also increased the memory size of the domain,but still am stuck with this error.
Thanks and Regards,
charanhi Barry,
what parameters in Secure Store do i need to check.
and one more thing i wanted to tell u....
i guess the problem started because of some changes that i did unknowingly in the settings of default login module stacks...
actually i was trying to explore visual admin tool's usage..and in that process i unknowingly changed the values of the default login module stacks provided by EP..
after that only the problem arose..
can u tell me how to restore the default settings for the login module stacks (j2ee engine,basic,client_cert,form,
digest,ticket,evaluation_assertion_ticket) so that the application starts working properly again
thanks in advance

We have set up individual users on our iMac, since I have installed Snow Leopard I find it does not go to the login screen when a user logs out, infact I have to manual shut down my Mac and restart it to get back in. It seems to hang up. any suggestions??
We have also set up individual accounts on our iMac, with parental controls on some. Logging out takes over 1 minute, with transition to screensaver followed by a new login screen more than 1 minute later. Did not happen before upgrading to SL. Any suggestions other than reloading the OS?

How to log out Apple Store in Firefox on Win Vista?
I managed my account on a Vista machine using Firefox and try to log out my account. But I can find log out button.
I called 1-800-my-apple, got transferred once and hang up. I killed firefox process. and deleted cookies....
Apple store still show I am logged in. When click on account link. you can change password, one click preference..That's crazy - a simple logout button will do everything, why is not there!Settings > Store > Sign Out then sign in with with new ID.
Before you do this, for what reason did you create a new Apple ID?
Keep in mind, content (media, apps, etc) are PERMANENTLY tied to the Apple ID they were acquired with. -
Domain user account will not authenticate once user logs out and logs back in
Greetings,
I am having difficulty resolving an issue with a Mac user on my domain. the user can log in no problem from the initial start up, however when the user logs out and trys to log back in, the domain account and the password doesn't authenticate. the only way the user can log back in is by shutting down completely.The guys around here who know anything about that hang out on Mac OS X Server forum. Many of them support mixed Server environments in their day jobs.
