808 Pureview - Camera & Phone Problems

I have a few problems with my 808.
Id love to hear from people with the same issues so i can confirm if my phone is faulty or if they all do this.
Camera problem (similar or maybe the same as discussed here - http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/808-Pureview-Bug-High-ISO-purple-tin... ), i get a strange red/purple colour on the right hand side of some of my pictures, low light without flash is very bad.
And the other day i discovered the same thing when taking pics in the snow using scenes with 'snow' selected, some kind of digital noise on the right side of the picture which makes the snow darker.
And more recently and far more worrying is the problem i suffer EVERY time im on the phone for over 2 hours, maybe heat related but im not sure. I play ps3 online a lot with my mates but i dont use the ps3 headset as it makes the games lag more, so i phone my mate and switch loud speaker on so we can talk about what we are doing in the game. Somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 hours the phone will freeze completely and i have to take the battery out to fix it. Its strange because although the phone freezes im still able to speak and hear my mate, i just cant hang up or do anything else, and the phone gets pretty hot as well.
So are all 808 as bad as mine or should i take it back and try a replcement?

hi mate,
have you checked via Nokia Suite if there are any firmware updates available for your device? if there are any, please update to the latest version offered. Failing that, you can try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite.
As for the phone over-heating, this may be an issue with the phone and its software. I cant remember the last time I was on the phone for over two hours, but in some cases my phone has turned off, but in some cases it has also stayed on. it is normal for the phone to generate that amount of heat after being used for a prolonged period of time. that isn't an issue in itself

  • Nokia 808 Pureview camera issues: ISO and shutter ...

    Hello,
From time to time I have experienced some issues with the 808. I am not really concerned with the hang and reboots but it is irritating when the camera does not work as you expect it to
    1) Random hang and reboots: Can' really reproduce on demand but have seen it happen when you are using the camera and an SMS comes. I have seen more often when I am getting loads of messages on Whatsapp at once when camera is also on. The notifications keep popping up at the top and the entire phone goes for a toss. The screen might just go blank and only option is to reboot. Also at times the screen goes blank and you see the scrolling dots at the bottom just like when the phone boots.
It may be a whatsapp issue but I have also seen the phone hang reboot when not using whatsapp
    2) Dark pictures when adjusting ISO:
->Pictures(1 & 2) of the cat were taken at SAME ISO settings. You can clearly see how one picture is bright like you would expect but the second pic is totally dark. Why this difference with the same exact settings?
NOTE: If you check the properties of these 2 images, the ISO is the same but the Exposure time on the bright picture is 2.9 seconds wheras the dark one is 1/3 seconds.
->The second set of picture(3 & 4) was taken outside in daylight. The bright picture is taken at ISo-50. It came out as expected. Then I increased it to ISO-800. As you can see the picture is completely dark in broad daylight.
Note: Image properties of the bright picture shows exposure 1/143 seconds and the dark picture shows 1/2146 seconds ??? Now thats a very fast shutter speed
-> SLOW automatic shutter speed: As mentioned in http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Several-severe-Issues-with-the-Nokia...
Pictures of objects in motion are always blurry. Also I assure you my hand isn't shaky. Even i think the auto shutter speed is very low because almost every moving object i click is blurred. Dont expect it from this camera.
Check out picture number 5. It was taken in Creative mode with everything set to AUTO. There is sufficient light however you can see the face on the right is blurred. As you can see, a perfectly good moment could not be captured perfectly because of this blur. The head wasnt too fast to cause such a level of blur. Its almost impossible to take sharp live action shots because of this.
-> Shutter sound lag: Again from:http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Several-severe-Issues-with-the-Nokia...
When clicking with low ISO settings, the shutter takes more that 2-3 seconds but the shutter sound comes as soon as you click. Because of the sound the subject things that picture has been clicked and moves causing blurred pics. Can you make the sound come only AFTER the picture has been completely clicked.?

I am only to be able to help you on the pictures part.
1 and 2. I do notice that the picture 1 is brighter compared to the picture 2. It is hard to say that the sky was focused on the picture 2 as the sky is blurred, which means the cat is right in focus. But, you can make them brighter by increasing the exposure value and the ISO. Another possibility is you're focusing on the sky but it is out of focus.
For number 3 and 4, try it again, just to make sure. It shouldn't work like that.
For picture 5, try increase the exposure value as this may decrease the shutter lag. Another way to frezze the moving objects is by using the Xenon flash.
    Hope this helps.
If I have helped you in any way, give me a kudos!

  • ISO problem for 808 pureview

For the last 22 months, I have been using 808 pureview & the thing I love the most is it's 41 mega pixel camera.
Everything was fine until my phone's WIfi module failed to work. I gave the phone for repair & now what I got back is a sodding piece of **bleep**. Now it's better to call the phone 808 **bleep**view.
Now whenever I take photos....a lot of light is being added to it. I think the problem is with ISO. ISO is not adjusting properly in automatic & scenes mode. Creative mode looks completly **bleep**ed up now.
Can you tell me what is the problem or how can I resolve this problem??
I will show you some sample picturs that I took recently.

Sometimes repairments are not done correctly or harm other components. Did you consider to bring it back for repair? If you have run the Nokia Software Recovery Tool on a Windows computer, you did everything you can do (officially).

  • Problems Emailing to Web Gallery From Camera Phone

I have a Sony Ericcson camera phone that has a mail client which I have set up to use GMail for both incoming and outgoing mail. I can't seem to get Web Gallery to accept the picture emails I send from the phone. The only thing I can conclude is that the server accepting the emails has problems parsing the message. I can use my desktop computer to send the image to Web Gallery, so it's there's nothing wrong with the image itself. I've also tried configuring my phone to use an AT&T mail server to send the picture, but have the same problems, so it's not the mail servers. I've also sent a full sized image (2 megapixels) as well as a small version (640x480) to see if it's related to file size, but they fail as well. Interestingly enough, I can send videos that I take from my phone to Web Gallery and it gets posted, so I figure it's not the phone.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I've included the failure notice email I get back from the Web Gallery mail servers below if it can help diagnose the problem. Thanks.

After many trial and errors, I figured out that the web gallery mail servers were choking because the filenames my phone gives photos have capital ".JPG" extensions. If I change them to lowercase, the pictures get posted. Unfortunately, I can't rename the files inside the phone and need to transfer them out to my mac via bluetooth before I can rename it. To solve the problem for myself, I created an email address on another hosted website that pipes mail to a script that rewrites the problematic portions before sending it to my web gallery. It's somewhat of a roundabout way of doing it, but it works for now.
Hopefully the web gallery mail servers will be corrected to handle this situation.

  • Help! Does non US variant 808 pureview support joi...

Hello everyone.  I bought my 808 PV from amazon in US as an upgrade to my n8.  Love it, however I miss my Joikuspot.  Has anyone out there used Joikuspot in a non US variant 808PV in the US with an at&t sim card successfully?  According to Joikusoft Support, It should work fine in US, but they didn't know for sure.  I am considering returning my phone to Amazon and buying a non US variant phone.  I am willing to let go of my warranty in trade for Joikuspot again.  Would like some confirmation that it will work before I go through the exchange.  Thanks!

vlado3g,, check the text in green.... and yes, the N8 was sold before the FCC imposed those restrictions, to the best of my knowledge they came into effect 2011.
    /Craig
    Hi all,
This post is about using the third party application JoikuSpot in USA (and other FCC governed countries) and is copied to the following threads:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Phone-Applications/Joikuspot-not-working-on-brand-new-Nokia-808/m-p/...

    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Help-Does-non-US-variant-808-purevie...
    1) It doesn't matter where you get your Nokia 808 PureView from, ie it doesn't matter if it's a US, Singapore or Finnish variant.. If you are using that device on a network/carrier in the US, the device recognises this and is not going to allow you to make Ad-Hoc wlan connections, as per the regulations set out by the FCC.
    2) I understand (this I am not certain on) that the FCC regulations came into force in 2011. Therefore for any device manufacturer since then, the device is not allowed to create Ad-Hoc networks otherwise the device manufacturer wouldn't get FCC approval.
    3) The FCC restrictons are in this case technically talking about Ad-Hoc networks, not 'wifi direct' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct) networks that are used for example in Lumia 610/710/800/900.
    4) I understand the US Variants of Nokia 808 PureView do not have JoikuSpot preinstalled.
    5) I understand that US customers are not able to purchase JoikuSpot from Nokia Store.
    6) JoikuSoft should be aware of this as they are making the software to create the Ad-Hoc networks. I will find someone to talk to JoikuSoft, failing that I will do it myself. I noticed a post from 'greentoy' claiming "According to Joikusoft Support, It should work fine in US, but they didn't know for sure.". Greentoy, if you're reading this please post me the JoikuSoft contact you had so I can sort this out with them.
It goes without saying, if you have Nokia 808 PureView in the US, and are using JoikuSpot successfully, then I am happy for you and don't want to cause problems for you, but I suspect the FCC would be happy to tell you about their feelings..
Are there any other questions I should be aware of using JoikuSpot in the US before I try to get in touch with JoikuSoft?

Are you doing that via the Finder or Terminal? If so, that's not the way to delete backups. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
And now I'm getting an error in time machine. "Files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read only"". I do get info on the disk, and my account has Read & Write privleges, but it say "You can only read" above that".
The Finder or Terminal deletions may have corrupted your backups. Repair them, per #A5 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

I'm doing the deletion through Time Machine (I go into Time Machine, find the folder in the backup, and ask Time machine to delete all backups of that folder).
I did find the tip of unmounting the disk, rebooting, and remounting it. That Stopped messages about the disk being read only. However, the folder still doesn't delete. I'm also a bit worried about these being symptoms of some other problem...

  • 808 Pureview gallery app start-up very slow

On my 808 pureview whenever I try to open the gallery app it takes at least 5-6 seconds and sometimes up to 10 seconds for the app to start and display my pictures. I don't think it's due to the amount of pictures as I regularly drop my pictures on to my computer so as to not have too much on the phone at once. Possible to speed this time up?

Unfortunately you have loaded down your iMac with a lot of useless software, primarily CleanmyMac and Avast antivirus. Both applications are not only unnecessary and in the CleanmyMac case it is considered malware. OS X is not like MS Windows that relies on third party tools to keep itself running well. OS X is extremely secure and does not require any antivirus, cleaning, performance enhancing etc. types of apps. In most case all of these tend to create more problems than they solve as is your case.
I strongly recommend locating the developers instructions for both and uninstall them.

No Insatagram,or any other photo editing program !

So Nokia please MORE APPS !
Sorry for spelling mistakes ,english its not my first language !
    PEACE !

Well, what apps are you looking for? I think this entire thing about "more apps!" is crazy. Ive had my N8 for soon 1,5 years, and its been a total of 2 apps that I've missed. One for my bank, but I can just use the internet for that instead. And then something similar to Instagram, cause Molome is abit bugged on my phone.
Other then that I love nokia maps, the fm-transmitter and the camera. There isnt any phone out there that can compete with it, except 808 that I've recently ordered, just waiting for it to get stocked and shipped

Hello. I just wanted to ask if my problem with the proximity sensor on my brand new Nokia 808 PureView not locking my phone when in a call even if my ear or my finger blocks the sensor is a Firmware/Software-related or a Hardware-related problem? It's not a big issue but i just wanted to know.
PS: It has no screen protector covering the sensor.
Please I need your expert advice. So that if it's really a hardware-related I can send it to the Nokia Care Center. And if its a software/firmware-related then I'll just wait for the update.
And thank you for having the time reading my post/query and answering.

  • The future Nokia OS update for Nokia 808 PureView ...

Warm regards to the Nokia family and all members out here!
Ive been a Nokia fanboy for the last 5 years, and have bought most of the smartphones produced by our very own Nokia. India is a very good market for Nokia, but since the past few years, people are just moving towards other platforms for some reason(s)..
Having said that, I would like to inform you that I bought the Nokia 808 PureView Cameraphone recently, and im enjoying the overall experience, though, I would like to give some of my suggestions for the future Nokia (Symbian) OS with a view to better it as a complete smartphone OS and lessen the number of unsatisfied customers. So, without wasting any more time, I'll come to the point straight away. Below are my opinions that ive summarized-
1.) For a better visual experience:
         - Horizontal scrolling in menu is highly recommended as its simply more practical and easy-to-use.
         - An option for changing wallpapers while changing HS (homescreen) or setting a single widescreen wallpaper that scrolls in every HS would be a welcome addition.
         - Size of icons in menu should be reduced to around half of the current size in FP1.
         - Simpler and faster theme effects.
         - The pop up menu (when 'options' is pressed) while being in the landscape screen orientation (in any app) should be  worked upon so that it populates more options while covering a lesser part of the screen.
         - The bounce back effect of tkinetic scrolling in some apps, like browser for instance, shold be reduced or disabled.
2.) For better apps and overall experience:
         - App open and close delay should be minimized
         - App installation time (specially QT apps) needs a reduction..
         - the browser needs a major update with full support of flash and improvements in pan & zoom functionality.
         - Im satisfied with the number of apps available, so this is not an issue with me
         - The qwerty keyboard responsiveness and key positioning needs an improvement. Ive compared it to other OSes myself and found out that I made less errors on those..
As im short of time, thats it for now. Hope you guys at nokia take this as a positive feedback and work towards improving the overall experience of THE BEST CAMERAPHONE ON PLANET, ie, THE NOKIA 808 PUREVIEW (and other capable hardware phones).
    Thanx,
    Varun Paul

Hello…I own an 808 PureView device. At the outset, I must congratulate you for creating such a marvelous device. It’s in all dimensions a brilliant Smartphone and has no major lags except a few which I would like to mention as suggestions to improve the general smoothness and usefulness of its User Interface (henceforth-UI).
The in-built gallery lacks ‘mark multiple items’ option which, if integrated, can be fruitfully used to delete or send multiple items though Bluetooth. Also, the in-built gallery lacks ‘renaming’ function which would otherwise be helpful in organizing the gallery items, and in giving custom names which are easy to remember and deal with.
The generic MUSIC PLAYER lacks the track/music search function from within the music player, and so, to search a song out of the vast collection, the user has to use the generic SEARCH application by exiting or minimizing the music player, which in itself is a cumbersome exercise. The search function, if integrated into the music player, will help a great deal in making the music experience really customized and precise as also time saving.
The in-built VIDEO editing options available in the video viewing dashboard are relatively much naïve and rudimentary as compared to PureView’s lesser predecessor, the N8. Now, since 808 is a full-fledged camera Smartphone, it is bit logical on part of the user to expect the video editing dashboard to be as efficient and complete as the photo editing dashboard of the same is.  Advance options like adding music clip can be added to the video editing console to mitigate the need of using any third party application to do so, and thus, it will further enhance the utility drawn from the cell-phone UI in terms of video editing and viewing.
The generic MESSAGING application has the default view as CONVERSATIONS view and manual selection every time is required to switch the view to FOLDERS mode. If there had been an option to make a choice in setting the folders view or the conversations view as default as per users convenience, it would have been again a smooth messaging experience.
To end up, the generic CONTACT application lacks the facility to edit the contact labels unlike the one which was available in S60 V3 devices (I owned N79 prior to owing 808 PureView and so I am well aware of this utility). Facility to edit the contact labels makes it easy to differentiate between multiple contact numbers of the same contact so as to have an ease of remembrance and clarity of use.
I earnestly hope that Nokia will incorporate some or all of these suggestions in the next-to-come firmware upgrade for Belle FP1 devices. These modifications/additions, if done and made, will make the Belle OS fully competent with its various other contemporaries as it just lacks these things but otherwise is a fluid and extremely useful OS. I request you to kindly pay due heed and consideration to my observations and work towards making the Belle OS an all-encompassing mobile platform. Thanking You.

  • Nokia 808 Pureview- No downloading from Nokia Musi...

Guys, I just got a Nokia 808 Pureview about 20 days back after a fantastic 2 years with my N8 (on Anna).
Initially, I was downloading music fine. But one day, I tried downloading music from PC. I logged on to ovi.music.com using my Nokia ID, and tried downloading few songs from the site on my Laptop....
It asked me to download a software called "Ovi Music Downloader". I downloaded & installed it. But songs did not get downloaded even then, on my PC....
Now, the problem is that when I try downloading it in my mobile, it just pretends to download, but the download never fills up ... in other words, no song is getting downloaded now.
Kindly help me to get my mobile Music downloads working again... What should I do now?
Additional Details: I just checked on my PC: I am not logged into Nokia Ovi Music site. Also, my subscription has 340 days remaining.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Gaurav, Problem Solved! Problem Solved!! I got the solution. Read on... In your mobile:
    1. Open Nokia Music and Go to your "Download History", and sort by "Date"only (it is default).
    2. One by one from the top, click each song to open its window, and see if it is downloaded or not.
    * If it is downloaded, it will show a "Play" Icon on the right side of the song... Ignore it, exit this song by clicking "Back" and move on to the next song...
    * But, If it is not downloaded, it will show a "download arrow" icon... If it does show download icon, click on it to start the download, then "LONG PRESS/ HOLD AND PRESS" the same icon, till it shows you "Cancel Download? ".... Click "Yes" to cancel the download...
    3. Now move on to the next song in the List of "Download History", and do the same. If it downloaded, leave it.
But, if it is not downloaded, click on download icon and when download starts, long press on the same icon to stop download. Same thing.
    4. After doing this on 5-6 songs, exit Nokia Music and restart it... You should see smaller numbers now in the Blue box.
    5. When this "blue circle" number reaches 1, keep on searching and you will find a DOWNLOAD STUCK file... This file's download will be stuck... It should show half downloaded, but it won't download further...
Stop this download by long pressing the download/ play icon.... That's it.
Problem solved. Now you can download any song, even the same song which was stuck. Today, I just downloaded the entire Christmas Album which had a song which stuck, and few more other songs.
If you don't understand anything, then I'll add screenshots too.
NOTE: My problem maybe solved, but its sad that Nokia ignored such problems even on complaining to them. Yes, 5-6 days ago, I sent a mail to customer care, and I didn't get a reply as yet. Just because we got a dying platform doesn't mean that it is bad and will not be supported.

If possible, use the memory card instead of phone memory in the Camera application (select Options > Settings > Memory in use to define the memory where the images are stored). You can also use Nokia Suite to transfer images and video clips to your PC.

  • Please help! (808 PureView)

Anyone know where I find the old video and picture editor for the N8 and can I install it on my 808 PureView which have no editor worth mentioned???
Why why why why why is this new version of Belle so lite? Any Nokia mod that dare to answer? Why cant I mark several images and delete them at the same time? And why cant I watch my Gallery in lanscape mode?? It dont switch to landscape when I turn my phone! Why not?
And is there a software or app that allow the camera on the 808 to take pictures with higher shutterspeed(if its called that when taking photos on fast moving objects without any blurry picture). The old N8 camera took much sharper pictures on moving objects than this 808 I have...like waterdrops in splashing water.
And is it possible to take for ex. 12M pixel pics with this 808 with some app?? Now I can only take small 8 M pixel pics or huuge 34M pixel pics.....all or nothing!
And is there any way to uninstall the FP 2 IF I install it some day??

Whilst still possible to install original Photo & Video Editors it is beyond the remit of this manufacturer's sponsored forum as to do so would negate existing platform security so please do not ask for assistance here:

  • 808 Pureview image stabilization?

So it's been a bit since those who have purchased the 808 Pureview to have put it through tests and reviews and whatnot. The cameras pretty impressive (although I also feel that the lower res display screen allows for the camera to be super impressive - more so than it truly is).
Nonetheless, I have a quirk in my 808 when taking video of a roaring fire with image stabilization on. Has anyone else tried this? If the video mode is on automatic or scene and if the fire is the focal point, all is well, but if the fire becomes secondary point of reference in the shot, the stabilization goes crazy and causes the screen to violently shake even though my hand is quite still... Never have I ever experienced such a phenomenon and was curious as to whether or not this is true for all cameras/devices with digital image stabilization.
It's a great way to show a beautiful picture and instantaneously cause motion sickness in a matter of seconds!
thought I'd inquire to see if this is normal.
