80G Ipod not syncing properly - keeps freezing

I have an 80G Ipod and have been trying to sync it (in the same way as always) with Itunes version 7.4.1(2). I've never had any troubles before. A week ago i purchased songs from itunes. When i went to sync it itunes gets stuck at random songs when syncing. I don't get any errors and the bar at the top of the screen keeps scrolling as if it were syncing, however it keeps saying that it's still syncing the same song. It gets stuck on different songs. I've checked all the names, artists etc.. for characters and have fixed these. i've plugged it into another mac and it syncs perfectly. I haven't got any extra devices etc attached to the mac.
The only way to get out of it is to disconnect the ipod and force quit itunes. I've spent hours on the phone to apple today and we've tried: reset, restore, deleting itunes, downloading and installing a new version of it, wiping the ipod harddrive completely and restoring the software (..6 hours later... still no luck). I've just phoned apple again and apparently their having technical difficulties of their own and can't help me at the moment.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix it?

ok... i think i finally found the problem. There is a card reader attached to our imac. It's been connected for months and has never caused a problem. However, when i unplug the card reader and printer from the usb points my ipod syncs perfectly. There's no problem with the apple keyboard and external harddrive connected via firewire. Just the card reader and printer connected via USB.
Perhaps some changes made by apple in the last itunes update?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Cover Flow on iTunes and iPod not syncing properly...help!

When I add an album to my iTunes library, it works fine (i.e. it's grouped properly) in Cover Flow, but when I sync it to my iPod, it doesn't show up properly on my iPod's cover flow. How do I fix this?
I guess I should add that the album has an Album Artist because there are three tracks with different artists. Get my drift? PLEASE HELP!

It will probably help if we know what it does do.
    Is it:
    1. you turn the iPod to landscape so that covers display, but there is a problem here?
    2. while in portarit mode, the cover is displayed - but in your case - what?
    3. something else?
Oh, and by the way, 21 views (from other users, not trained Apple staff) in 1 hour and four minutes - probably not from everywhere in the world! (Take note of where I am.) It can take a day or two before someone who knows the answer reads your post - usually after they have finished work, getting home, eating, etc etc.

  • ITunes and iPod not syncing properly...please help

When i sync my 60GB video iPod with iTunes it starts to work, a few files or podcasts are copied then it seems to get "stuck" then an error message appears:
attempting to copy to the disk "My Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
Ipod software and itunes are the latest versions.
I've restored the ipod without success, in fact this was a pain as all my music was wiped from the ipod and can only be put back on a gig at at time. I synced with itunes on my other laptop PC and this worked fine so i think the ipod itself is ok.
see below for the diagnostics report for the ipod:
Also iTunes is also having some problems closing down properly and can be a huge resource hog (50% CPU) sometimes, this was never a problem before. Should i remove and then re-install itunes? The only other thought i had was some kind of problem with album art which i have attached to music files using itunes art importer. I did this ages ago and it has never been a problem before.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance....

Re: conflicting software. I'm not sure what would conflict with iTunes. no new antivirus/spyware or firewall software installed.
hmmmm. let's follow up on that anyway. firewalls typically have to generate a new set of rules for iTunes (and QuickTime, and some of the itunes background processes) when you install a new version of itunes.
try the techniques described in the following document (but leave your ipod service enabled):

  • Ipod Not syncing properly

I have my ipod set to manually manage, so I can sync it with both my home and work computers, but on the work computer it doesn't show all the music on the ipod and after I sync, it doesn't show the music or podcasts from the work computer on the ipod.

Is the work PC an XP box too, Pac? If so, is it still back at Service Pack 2?
If so, you might be getting a Windows drive letter confusion there, as per:
[Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493]
(The hotfix that repaired the issue on XP boxes was included in SP3, so if the work PCs are at SP3, something different must be afoot.)

  • ICal not syncing properly w/ iPod Touch

I believe this is an iCal problem, not an iPod issue:
My new iPod Touch is not syncing properly with my iCal calendars. I notice after syncing "All Calendars" that some of my appointments in iCal were showing up, but most were not. And some events on my iPod were not on my laptop. I tried the "Replace Information" option under Info in iTunes, but it didn't help. Then I noticed something even weirder -- the list of Calendars that appears in the "Selected Calendars" list in iTunes is NOT my current set of calendars. The iTunes list includes some calendars that I have deleted or renamed, and is missing some new ones. So I guess I'm not surprised by the events being out of sync, but how can this be? How can iTunes be picking up an obsolete set of calendars and events?
I tried a backup within iCal, then deleted every calendar one-by-one, leaving just a new calender named "empty". I quit iCal and iTunes, and also deleted four files in my Prefs folder and the iCal folder in Application support. Then I did restored from my iCal backup, and quit and restarted both iCal and iTunes. After all that, iTunes still shows the old list of calendars.
I'll also mention that iCal itself has been very squirrelly for quite a long time. Every so often it will just "run away", chewing up CPU and memory until I force-quit. Haven't solved that one, yet, either.
    Any suggestions?

PROBLEM SOLVED: I backed up my iCal data (from within iCal); quit; deleted all prefs, iCal cache files, and the whole Calendars folder in my Library; then relaunched iCal and Restored from my backup file. iTunes then showed the correct list of calendars when I connected my iPod touch, and I got a proper sync. Who knows, maybe this will also fix the frequent runaway crashes I've been having.

  • My ipod touch is not syncing properly.

My Ipod touch is not syncing properly.  I download podcasts and it will not allow me to delete some shows after they have been listened to.  It is a neverending cycle of deleting unwanted podcast episodes from itunes on the computer, plugging in my ipod, syncing, and then it always takes the already listened to episodes, and puts them back into itunes on the comp.  I then delete them on the comp again, sync the ipod, and it again pulls them over from the ipod.  I have it set up to only sync unlistened to episodes, and beyond that, only checked things, but it does not seem to matter.  The only thing I can do to get the episodes off the ipod for good is to do a factory reset, and that absolutely should not be necessary!  Any ideas for something I am not seeing that is allowing this to continually happen?  This just started happening a couple of months ago.  Not sure what changed, but would like it fixed!  Thanks for any ideas in advance!

I have a similar problem, all since the ios update i think, my podcasts do not seem to sync, I have a song purchase via the ipod which no longer plays (just sits on the screen) this also doesnt sync back to itunes.
Its a complete mess. Seems everytime Apple push out an update my ipod becomes less useable.

  • My iPod Touch 5th Generation will not sync properly

I plug on my iPod Touch like normal and its backs up all the files, but every time I try to "sync" it, it will not sync properly. I added a few songs (not boughten off of iTunes) and they will not sync on my iPod. My iTunes is up to date and so is my iPod Touch. What is going on?

Music does not sync properly when updated to latest version.  Can see on computer but can't play from ipod.

    Hope this helps...
I was having the same problem where only 1.7GB of 10GB of selected music would sync so I decided to start fresh.  The following steps worked for me:
    1.  Open itunes and connect iphone 5 if not already.  Uncheck all playlists, artists, etc. till nothing is checked to sync.  Then uncheck the sync music box so that all music will be removed from the phone.  Sync iphone
    2.  Eject device. Quit itunes (don't just close). unplug iphone.
    3.  Restart imac, macbook, or PC.
    4.  Restart iphone.
    5.  Now after power up, restart itunes then plug in iphone, check sync music and select music to sync.  Sync iphone
    6.  It worked for me!!!  Good luck.

  • I updated to new ios and now it is not syncing properly.  How can i revert back to the previous installed version?

I updated to new ios and now it is not syncing properly.  New songs are not showing up on the ipod display but when I view the device on my computer, they are in the playlist but there is a dashed circle beside the missing songs.  It previously synced perfectly before the IOS update.  How can i revert back to the previous installed version?

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.

  • The reminders app in my iPhone and the reminders in Mac are not syncing properly

I use the Reminders app and Notes app extensively to keep track in both my Mac and iPhone. However the reminders app in my phone does not immediately sync when i made changes in my Mac and later when i make a change in my iphone Reminders, it over writes the reminders in Mac. Please help so that my work syncs smoothly from Mac to iPhone and vice versa without any loss of information, just as Apple advertises and takes pride in being able to do so.

There are a couple threads out there with this issue.  I had the same problem. Try this link for the answer...

At the bottom - one person has the answer...On your iPhone remove your iCloud account.  Then add it back.  It's not as painful as it sounds it only took me less than 5min to add everything back

  • ICloud Not Syncing Properly on One Device

So I have an iPad, iPhone, iMac, and Macbook Pro.
I use iCloud syncing for one program, Notability and for whatever reason, things do not get synced to the Macbook Pro. In order to retrieve all the documents in the cloud, I have to uncheck 'iCloud Drive' in System Preferences and then recheck it. (Also of note is that the reading list in Safari does not sync properly, but contacts does). This only happens with the Macbook Pro. I have tried signing in and out of iCloud but it occurs again. I am using the same e-mail address with all devices. Anybody have any clue what could be the issue?

It's important to realise that there is only one copy of your Contacts and Calendars, it lives at iCloud.com and your devices (all of them) get the same thing. If your calendars are gone from iCloud.com you're going to need a backup copy.
? Do the calendars exist on any device? Do you backup your Mac?
On each device verify the iCloud calendar and contacts are set as the default (if you do not have any accounts other than iCloud this does not apply)
iTunes likewise has one Library, the iTunes library, quite separate from any iCloud connection. Again, you should keep a backup of it. You can download all tunes purchased from iTunes whenever you want, if you use iTunes Match you can download all the music in your iTunes library regardless of how it got there.
In iTunes, ensure that 'Show Music in the Cloud' is checked. (View Menu)

Why does my aol mail not sync properly with the Droid Razr? Never had the problem with blackberry but now I deal with a great deal of spam & duplicating tasks

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?
