80GB Classic gone black while updating firmware
Hopefully someone can help, while upgrading my 80GB Classic, the iPod completely stopped functioning. iTunes will not recognize the iPod and it will not turn on at all. I have tried and tried to reset it but to no avail.
Is there a fix or do I have to bring it in to Apple?
This same thing happened to my iPod Classic after the most recent firmware upgrade. Took it to the Apple Store, and was told that the updates were causing the iPods' battery to drain completely.
Apple Store plugged the iPod into a wall charger for about 30 minutes, and it came back, and has been fine since. They told me that plugging the iPod in to a USB port does not provide enough current to bring the iPod back to life, and that they only way to correct it was to plug it into the wall charger (not provided with iPod, of course).

80GB Classic won't take updates or Sync.
I have had my I-Pod for about 1 month now and it never had a problem before today.
When I plugged my I-pod into my computer tonight asked me to upgrade to firmware 1.1.1 I clicked yes and it seemingly worked, but when it completed the update and restarted I was back to square 1 and it asked my to update again like nothing had happened.
If I choose not to update I then run into one of two sync errors. I am either told that "The iPod "Name of iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)." Or "The iPod "Name of iPod" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found.
I have tried restoring the iPod and in much the same way as the update install, it seems to restore the iPod, both when it restarts and connects with the computer it is not restored and still contains all the files and data that were on it to begin with.
I have read through similar problems and have tried the trick of clicking "enable disk use" and using the device manager to "scan for hardware changes" but this does nothing.
I am suspicious that "enable disk mode" isn't taking since when I disconnect and then reconnect the iPod the box is no longer checked.
Does anybody have any ideas that might help me?I had this very problem.
It turned out to be a problem with a bad keyword in iPhoto (one I didn't even know of because the picture was e-mailed to me).
Here is my suggestion: look for the file AlbumData.xml (in Pictures/iPhoto Library) and open it in your browser (for instance Safari). You may have an error message saying your file is incorrect at line x. If such is the case, open AlbumData.xml with an editor and look at that line. It will give you an indication of what went wrong (an unclosed tag with a keyword in my case). Open iPhoto and remove the offending keyword. At this point reboot your computer and your iPod for good measure. Resync.

about a day or 2 ago i had bought the blackberry 8220, my cousin said i should update it today i had uploaded all my music gotten my friends contacts and had all pictures stored on, now i updated as i was supposed to and after it finnished updating everything was gone!!!!!!!!!!! this REALLY pissed me off because i was supposed to text my girlfriend but everything is gone is there anyway i can back up all my info without having to go to around my school getting numbers going all over the internet getting my music and pictures, i am back in hi school now i DONT have time to go around get my music back and get my contacts. I am REALLY REALLY REALLY pissed if someone can help i will be really gratefull i am super desprate.

How, exactly, did you conduct the update? Under some methods, it provides the opportunity to do a backup before the update...
If you updated on a PC using the RIM desktop software, this would have been offered to you. If you did not cancel it (I've no idea what "step 9" is), then that backup would have produced a file with an ipd extension...search your entire hard drive for *.ipd. Inspect the results (date/time of the files mainly) and choose the appropraite one. Then, use the RIM software to restore:

If, on the other hand, you did not use a method of updating that conducted a backup and/or you canceled the backup step (if it was step 9, for instance), then I am sorry for your loss and you have some work ahead of you.

ITouch Malfunction While Updating Firmware
I was in the process of updating the firmware in a 16GB ITouch I just purchased. Up to that point everything seemed to be going well. The iTouch was working. Somehow during the firmware update I get a message on the computer indicating a device had malfunctioned and the iTouch went blank. The iTouch will not even turn on now. Any suggestions? I would hate to get a replacement and have the same thing happen. Thanks in advance.

The screen on my iPhone has gone black while I was using it. It just "shut off". The phone is still working as I can hear/see it when it plugs into the computer, but the screen just wont turn on. I've tried the soft reset "holding down home and lock screen" and i've tried to restore settings. I went to the apple store and they said I had to send it to my provider (in another country) but my phone contract has run out.
Is there a way to fix this?
If not, is there some way apple can replace the phone? It's less than 2 years old. Surely the screen shouldn't just give out like that.

Can't update firmware on *80GB Classic
I was prompted to install firmware update 1.1.1 for my 80GB Classic but I keep getting the message that the request has been timed out. On the downloads section of Itunes the estimated download time is showing as up to 3 hours, depsite me being on a fast broadband connection. Previous updates have gone fine.Purchases from Music Store go fine.
I have tried reinstalling Itunes and resetting Ipod but to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? I am on Windows XP Home.No you don't need to update the firmware.. but if you have forgotten the password you need to reset the TC.. it will then become available to the network.
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Soft Reset to get around passwords.
To actually get around the password all you need to do is press the reset button for between 1-4sec seconds.. do not exceed that..
The passwords will then disappear for 5min reverting to default.. ie nothing on wireless and public for main access.
That allows you time to do the setup. Then try again with your ipad etc.
Otherwise find someone with a pc with windows and use the 5.6 utility on that or use an older Mac OS.. yosemite is hopeless. -
I am getting error (-1) while updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1. The phone has gone into a recovery mode. Restore fails every time at "restoring the firmware" stage. Striped bar remains for a long time, then shows "error (-1)" and the restore fails. I have been doing it for last 12 hours. Help!
Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

While updating the firmware Update, i disrubted the download and now my macbook won't start up! Any suggestions on how to fix it? i only see a black screen and when i press the power button i hear the noise that it would make if it was going to start up. But i only see black.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

While updating iphone software to 5.0.1, I am getting error that Iphone could not be updated because the firmware file not compatible.

First did a full back up of iphone using iTunes
Put iphone into Recovery Mode ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 ). Erases all user data and settings!
Disconnected USB cable from iphone
Powered off iphone by holding down Sleep/Off button until slider appeared, slid to off, waited until screen dark
Pressed and kept holding Home button while plugging cable back into phone
I still saw the graphic on the iphone that said to plug into iTunes, so I unplugged and re-plugged cable. (I may have released the Home button too soon)
Recovery Mode alert came up in iTunes.
Followed all iTunes prompts to restore phone - it downloaded and sucessfully installed iOS 5.0.1
iphone did not appear in iTunes due to missing pairing file (that made me nervous)
iphone was now at factory settings. I followed prompts on iphone screen to start reactivation process
Eventually the iphone asked if I wanted to restore from a back-up (whew!)
A window opened in iTunes and I was able to select my previous back-up file for the restore
A full restore from back-up then occured
I also allowed a carrier settings update to occur when prompted (not sure that happens in all cases)
When the restore was done I had to re-enter some passwords, but everything was there
iOS is now 5.0.1 (9A406). The whole process took about an hour. -

My new macbook pro has gone black on me three days in a row. is this a chronic problem?
The only way to get it back is a hard reset or let the battery die and then plug in the charger. The brightness is up and the power stays on while screen is black.
This is the second macbook pro i have owned in the past two weeks. I am ready to return it for good if this is a chronic issue. Please help if you have had this same issue.Try a SMC reset:

You can try putting the iPhone into DFU mode and see if that will let you restore and remove the jailbreak:

Some jailbreaks cannot be removed and in some cases will permanently disable your iPhone. If that happens to you, then you will have to buy a new iPhone; Apple will provide no support, warranty or out-of-warranty, for a jailbroken iPhone.
