80GB Classic not syncing to iTunes 9 on New MacBook Pro

I have owned my new 15" MacBook Pro for one whole week since my previous iBook screen display went out on me a few months ago. Extremely excited about my new purchase I carefully transferred items from an older external hard drive to a new external hard drive. I then decided it was time to update my iPod. Little did I know the mistake I was about to make.
After a bit of finagling I was able to transfer my old playlists into my new iTunes 9.0.3. Once I had double checked everything, I was ready to sync my 80GB iPod Classic (approx 2.5 years old.) I plugged in my iPod and hit Sync.
The process seemed to speed along even faster than it had on my old computer. With a music collection nearing 10,000 songs, my iPod had sync'd nearly 2/3rds of the files in just under an hour. While the new computer sat alone with the external hard drive and iPod attached, my iPod randomly ejected itself.
"Odd," I thought, "I was nowhere near my computer." I clicked okay on the 2 or 3 random error screens that followed only to have iTunes tell me my iPod was now corrupted. "Maybe it's the new computer and I just need to Restore my older iPod." I clicked Restore and a few minutes later everything appeared to be okay.
With a few more attempts, my iPod syncing was going nowhere fast (or slow I should say.) Rather than become completely frustrated, I disconnected everything and waited a few hours before trying to sync again.
36 hours ago I began the sync process again. When I left the house this morning, I had about 3,100 files sync'd to my iPod. Now it's only transferring between 100-150 files over an 8 hour duration. I am now becoming concerned for my hard drives and wondering if there will be any hope that my iPod will actually finish syncing.
Can anyone give me any advice? Should I stop the sync process? Should I find another program to run my iPod? Should I just use my iPod as an overpriced paper weight?
I have been a loyal Apple customer for years and have never seen this many people have a problem with no response from Apple. I am becoming very disappointed in a company I have trusted with my digital world for about 10 years. An immediate fix would be greatly appreciated.

1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
Retracts: 861
Reallocs: 12
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 2097
Starts/Stops: 856
Temp: Current 29C
Temp: Min 10C
Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.

  • ICal not syncing from existing iPhone to new macbook pro hard drive

    Hi everyone,
Can anyone help? I have just had the Hard drive on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009) replaced and I have then restored all previous hard drive content and settings from my time machine. Everything transferred across with no problem except that when I came to sync my iPhone with my computer, everything else will sync except for iCal.
iCal on my computer currently has the same calenders but with nothing in them. I want to be able to sync my iPhone calenders with my Macbook calenders so that the information gets transferred accross to my Macbook.
I have tried adjusting the sync settings in itunes and I have tried backing up and restoring my iphone to see if I could force the computer into recognising my iPhone ical files but to no avail. I am now stuck and could really do with some advice.....
    Thanks
    SiBB

Connect to the MacBook. It will ask you if you want to sync with the MacBook. It should then ask if you want to save what is on the iPad. Tell it yes, and it should do so. You should have your iPad apps backed up anyway, but I am pretty sure that you do not lose anything by transferring to another machine. The iPad does not care if it was a Mac or PC that it is synced with, it is not in either format. You do need to go and authorize your Macbook on your iTunes account.
Besides there is a step by step instruction on [How to transfer or sync iPad contents to Mac|http://www.softwarebbs.com/wiki/Howto_transfer_or_sync_iPad_contents_toMac].
Hope it can do you a favor.

  • Since Mavericks update my iPhone and iPad calendars are NOT syncing with the calendar on my MacBook Pro

Since Mavericks update my iPhone and iPad calendars
are NOT syncing with the calendar on my MacBook Pro.
I used to use iTunes but don't see the options now.
Does anyone know how to set up a sync.?

I have temporarily solved the sync problem by using an older MBAir running snow leopard, I exported
both calendar and contacts and imported them in the MBA and synced normally.
Since I'm not about to send my data on the cloud, or setup a server to just sync my iphone,
I think this is a good workaround ! BTW I stopped updating my contacts and calendar on the MB, I only
update the iphone until a permanent solution is found !
And they better come up with one soon, because I'll just switch to an Android phone and Ubuntu linux for my MBP, Apple should make our lives easier, not harder !
I'm sure Samsung is having a ball ever since the sync issue was made public !
Hopefully Apple is listening and will make things right again !

  • HT1766 How do you sync an iphone with itunes on a new MacBook Pro without deleting everything on your iPhone?  It is the iPhone 4.

How do you sync an iphone 4 with itunes on a new MacBook Pro without deleting everything on your iPhone 4 if it was previously syned on a PC?

Follow the steps listed here under the section titled "External Drive".  Once you find the location of the iTunes Media folder you can transfer it over a netork connection, rather than using an external drive.

  • HT1329 My large iTunes library is on an external hard drive. Can I set up iTunes on my new Macbook Pro and copy the library to it or are there any pitfalls?

I have my large iTunes library on an external hard drive. Can I set up ITunes on my new Macbook Pro and transfer/copy this library to the internal hard drive or are there any problems I should be aware of?

ITs an old Iomega 100gb external HD that has about 90gb of music on it. The Macbook has a 500gb HD. I would like to put the iTunes library on the internal HD so I have room to expand.
    Phil0124 wrote:
You can copy it to the internal hard drive as long as it fits on it. How big is your library, and how big is your internal HD?
The only thing you do not want to do is over-stuff the internal hard drive. The OS needs some space to operate correctly, so if your iTunes library uses up more than say 80 to 85% of the internal HD's available space it may not be a good idea to transfer it over.
With that said, the internal HD will provide slightly faster access to the library than the external would, but other than that, you can point iTunes to the external drive just fine.

  • How to get my itunes on my new macBook pro

Howw do I get my itunes on my new MacBook Pro?

The application should be pre-installed.  If you mean transfer a library:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

  • HT1414 having bought a new MacBook, I wanted to Sync my iPhone4 to it, but it insists the only method to do so is to "Erase and Sync" or "Cancel" which leaves no option to just use iTunes on the new MacBook Pro - how annoying is that???

I have had the iphone4 for 2 years now and I bought a new MacBook Pro, opened iTunes and it knew I already had other machines with iTunes sync'ed with it but it still insisted on offering one option or sync'ing with new MacBook - "Erase and Sync", which means deleting EVERYTHING on the iphone. What if I want my iPhone to dictate and get iTunes on the Macbook to match up with the iPhone??? Or at least get iTunes to relate to what my iTunes account obviously has on it and update that way. Come on Apple, as per usual, very pretty but not very practical!!!

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Gmail is not syncing on my iPhone 6 or macbook pro

Gmail is not "loading" or "syncing" on my iPhone 6 or macbook pro
I can access gmail through safari and I receive email from my other email accounts (that are not gmail)
    Internet connection is good
I have reset, rebooted, deleted, the gmail account from both the macbook pro and iPhone, then added them back I've also reset the gmail password several times.
    Suggestions?

I tried a few times like most of the users on this post without any luck syncing Iphone 6 IOS 8.1.2 with an old exchange server 2003 but now I sync EVERYTHING without any problems, and this steps are for my friends in the airport IT group (They know who they are, I appreciate their help always).
BE SURE THAT EXCHANGE HAS IMAP4 up and running.
    The steps to configure:
    1. Delete any exchange account configured previously.
    2. Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts and Calendar>Add Account>Exchange and add [email protected] and Password then Next.
At first It wont find anything and goes to next screen where asks for
    3. Server: mail.domain.com, Leave domain is optional, Your User: user, Your Password: password. *****Then It says impossible to verify account***** but now you have the SAVE option. Touch on SAVE.
    4. ON on everything you want to SYNC and touch SAVE again.
    5. It says account added but now you have to reconfigure. NOW it appears the name EXCHANGE on Account inside Settings>Mail,Contacts and Calendar
    6. Touch on it and on the Exchange menu touch on Account>Advanced Settings> Here TURN OFF SSL. Then return back to ACCOUNT and OK. You are supposed to see the check marks on all boxes the Voilá Exchange is UP. If not RESTART your iphone. Tricky but it worked for me, hope work for you guys.

I am trying to sync my iphone 4s with my new macbook pro and it says that i need to erase the content because i am connected to another itunes store, which i am but i dont know if i want to erase my content.... any sugustions???

"would it work if i backed up or restored my iphone on my macbook? "
    No.
"The computer it is synced to is a dell"
So, copy everything from the Dell to the Mac.
Your iphone will be erased and the content replaced with the content from the new computer.  You need to amke sure that everything is on the new computer.

  • Copied my iTunes library to new MacBook Pro, why are my iPhone apps greyed out?

    Hi,
Rather than migrate from an iMac that I sold, I decided to just start fresh on a new Macbook Pro. I did back up my iTunes library and copied it over to the new Macbook. I synced my iPhone and iPad 2 on the new Macbook but the apps are greyed out. When I click the sync apps box all but a few of the apps (I'm assuming the ones that are default with the iPhone and iPad) dissappear.
I'd like the ability to arrange my apps with the Macbook at times and like the idea that I have a backup of all my apps on my computer. I realize I'm backing them up in iCloud, but just sayin'.
    Thanks,
    Bo

Do I purchase an external hard-drive and transfer? Or should I just go and get a 32 GB Flashdrive? Anyone have any tips for doing this stuff?
assuming all your media files are in the default location, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
So how can I turn off the library on my iMac and just make it two?
    you can't.
you'll have to wait until you reach the limit of five machines. then you can use the deauthorize all option, following which you can reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.

  • Syncing an iPhone4 into a new macbook pro

Hi, I've recently gotten a new macbook pro and tried to sync the stuffs that I got in my phone but failed. I tried to follow suggestions like ' transferring purchases from xc31's iPhone ( which is the name of my iPhone ) , but they said some of the purchased items couldn't be transferred to your iTunes because you're not authorised for them on this computer. There're suggestions to go to Preferences tab and reset warning, i tried going to the Devices tab under the Preference tab but it was just BLANK. I couldn't find any way to so-called 'reset warning' or whatsoever, could anybody help me with this cos I'm stucked for days. Thanks a million to anyone who could provide me an answer feasible

I have a pre-intel tower mac that the iphone and ipad are currently synced to.
I want to sync them both now to my new macbook pro. I am unsure about syncing in general as I haven't done it myself yet.
