80gb ipod classic is skipping songs and...

My ipod is not playing full songs sometimes.
It might play a few seconds of it then it skips to the next one.
I'm noticing that all the new music i have downloaded recently are the ones that are being skipped more often.
Also, when i actually want to skip to the next song [after i press the 'next' or 'back' buttons on the ipod] it stays playing the same song for awhile before it actually skips and plays the next song.
I looked at the discussion boards and noticed that a lot of people are having the same problems. They are saying it might be the latest itunes that is causing this. Can someone please help me out here?
[oh and all the songs are working perfectly in itunes on my computer...all the problems are only occurring in my ipod]
-Cris-

Can you be more specific regarding the noise it is making?
I'm having problems with this and not sure if this is normal for this size storage space - I have the 80gb and used to have the 30gb.

  • IPod classic 160GB skipping songs

I bought a new 160GB iPod only four days ago. I've noticed a couple of problems:
    1) When playing a playlist, the iPod will sometimes skip a song. For example, when song 1 is finished, it will play song 3. It skips only some songs, but they are always the same ones. The songs played perfectly on my 80GB 5.5G. Unless I manually select them, they won't play along in the playlist. I've tried restoring and I updated to 1.0.1 but it didn't help.
    2) I noticed the battery meter jumps all over the place when selecting different things on the iPod, especially videos. One second it was 3/4 full, the next it was 1/4, then back to half, thten it goes back to normal. Maybe it was doing that because it's a new battery, but I did calibrate it last night (fully discharge and fully charge) so maybe that fixed it. Haven't tried it yet. But has anyone else encountered this?

My iPod Classic 80G is doing something similar. At times it will not play the selected song from the list. For example, I am in the podcast directory for a video podcast and I select the Sept. 19, 2007 episode. The iPod queues up and plays the Sept. 18,2007 instead. I exit out and go back to the directory and reselect the Sept. 19, 2007 episode; Sept. 18, 2007 episode plays again. I normally have to restart the iPod in order for the desired podcast episode to play.
This also occurs with music. I select Track One and track three begins to play. Reselect track One and track three plays again.
I am running iPod Classic software 1.0.1

My daughter's 80G iPod Classic has started skipping songs on playlists, any idea why?

  • IPod Classic 160GB skipping songs after a few minutes play

I've got an annoying problem with my iPod Classic 160GB.  It gets to about 3 minutes or so into a song (sometimes more sometimes less then just skips to the next one.  It's about a couple of years old (I got it as a replacement when the battery of my 120GB Classic failed) and has been excellent.
It doesn't just do it when I'm walking along - I've put it on my desk now for experimental purposes and it's the same thing.  They all play fine in iTunes.
Most of my iTunes recordings are now Apple Lossless - the lower bitrate songs and podcasts seem to play through fine.  I've hard-reset and restored the machine.
I have heard some noises coming from the hard disc - could the HDD be failing?  Very disappointed if so - and what else can be done short of converting my large iTunes library to a lower bitrate?  But that defeats the object of having the Classic's high capacity which is the ability to store and play higher quality recordings. It never did this in the past - nor on my original 120GB

I've done the iPod diagnostic tests on the HDD (select-menu then select-back) and it comes up with no errors or bad sectors.  Hmm

  • 160GB Classic is skipping songs and entier albums, sometimes locking up for no reason.

I newly purchased a 160GB iPod classic to replace my 3-year+ old 16GB touch. I found myself wanting more storrage to music and less of games and apps, so it was a no brainer. Anyway, there have been many problem to come with this item and now I'm not sure if I want the pain and agervation that comes with the classic.
Just today I noticed tracks in my playlist would skip. Sometimes the song would never play or the song would get 30-50 seconds in and just skip to the nest. All these problems are on a full-album scale: if one track has this problem, then they all do. Also, mor recently, the iPod has been locking up on me. Even when I just go to connect it to my PC with the USB cable, it will lock-up right when connection is made which will force me to do a device reset. I know the classic is HDD based and not flash memory, but, I can assure you, I've been very careful with it. I always am with my stuff.
I tried to remody these issues with a factory reset thorugh iTunes but this just seemed to make it worse. I've even had iTunes to my iPod is corrucpt and needs to be factory reset.
Should I just take it back while I still can and exchange it for a (maybe?) working version?
    Thanks!

Skipping songs are due to corrupted MP3 tag headers, so no point in getting a new iPod, you just need to get your music in your iTunes library fixed by a free 3rd Party software called MP3 validator.
Google it and run for all your music in the library.
    Good Luck!

  • My 80gb IPOD classic will connect to and then immediately disconnect from the USB port in my BMW 528i.  My wife's works fine in the same car. I can't se any difference.

  • 80GB iPod Classic stops adding songs at 2599.

I can't add any more songs to my ipod- it stops at 2500-3000 songs and I haven't even used 1/4th of the disk. I thought it might have been my computer, so I tried it on another but to no avail. Anyone heard of this problem?

Can't help you, I'm afraid, just want to let you know I have exactly the same problem with my 160gb, and I've now synched my ipod 7 times now trying different things each time. Nothing works. And each time it takes about 2 hours beofre the synch stops (around a third capacity) and freezes iTunes and Windows. It has never stopped on the same song, so that can't be the problem.
On a few occasions I have noticed something peculiar. When synching stops it shows around 36gb "Audio" and 200mb "Other" synched. However, when I reconnect it it shows that around 1.2gb Audio and 35gb "Other" had been synched!
Why does that happen and what "Other" takes up 35 gb? I only use my iPod for music, nothing else. Cd artwork would not use anywhere near that much.
This is the message I posted a while back. No-one answered.
My iPod 160gb partially synched (around 30%)then iTunes froze. On 2nd attempt after downloading latest version of iTunes, restoring iPod and getting Windows updates it synched around 40% then a window appeared where it stated that a certain track could not be synched. I clicked OK and I was told my synch was complete, but of course it wasn't. On connecting again the iPod itself stated it was synchronising, and then almost immediately it stated it was ejecting. This time it was at no time recognised by iTunes or my computer. I tried again with various USB ports and got the same result.
This is the first time I've synched in at least 6 months. I have never had a problem like this before. I've read that quite a few have experienced freezing issues recently, but didn't see any with the same partial synch thing. Any ideas anyone?

  • How do i fix my ipod touch from skipping songs ? shuffle is shut off

my ipod touch is skipping songs and shuffle is off . how do i fix this ?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync and resync all music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • How can I delete all songs and data from my 80GB ipod classic without opening itunes?

I have an older 80GB ipod classic that works but will not play any songs. I'm trying to delete all songs and data from the hard drive to see if that will fix the problem, however, it will not appear in my itunes. I've tried various ways to help it appear in my itunes but I do not want to delete my itunes because I have another ipod that has all those songs on it.
I was wondering if there was a way to restore my ipod back to the beginning without having to go through itunes. Thanks!

It might, but I wouldn't bet much on it.  Either way, give it a shot.
Otherwise, if appears in Windows an external hard disk, try a low level reformat of the device's hard drive.  See here for instructions on how to do this.

  • I was given an 80gb ipod classic formated with mac os. Is there any way to connect it to my windows pc so I can transfer the song to my library?

I was given an 80gb ipod classic formatted with mac os. Is there any way to connect it to my windows pc so I can transfer the song to my library? When I try to connect to my pc I get a message asking me if I want to format the drive. I want to try to save the 15000 songs that are already on the ipod. Any suggestions?

The iPod and iTunes are designed so that you cannot transfer music on an iPod to another iTunes Library. This is because the 15,000 songs do not belong to you and you have no legal right to keep them.

  • 80GB iPod Classic looks to have deleted all my songs after iTunes update - please help!!!

I know there have been topics about this in the past, but I haven't found a solution to my particular case in any of them. So I'm sorry that this topic may seem redundant, but I really need help.
I have an 80GB iPod classic I bought 5+ years ago. It has been running fine for months. After I downloaded and installed the new iTunes upgrade however, when I connected the iPod it gave me the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of .... iPod. Please restore etc". I really don't want to have to restore it and lose my music, as it is almost full of music, much of which is hard to find. I don't often back up my library (I know, I know), but I have one from a few months ago I can use if I really have to (it'll be better than starting completely over), but I don't know where that would be saved on my computer. My music isn't saved in another folder so simply restoring and putting the music back into my iPod isn't an option either.
I am running Windows XP home edition if that helps with solutions.
Please help me, I really don't want to have to start my music collection from scratch.

    I did a mistake

  • If your ipod freezes, skips songs, and wont load, read this

ok, i have a 4th gen 40gb ipod which worked fine until i upgraded to itunes 5. now my ipod shows a folder with !, songs skip, and it freezes after 5 songs.disk mode didnt help either, as it didnt show up on my computer even though the ipod displayed do not disconnect. I found a fix for it. it sounds dangerous and crude, but it worked for me, and some other people. plug your ipod into your computer and it will say dont disconnect, and your comp probably will be locked up like normal until ipod loads, then take your ipod, and hit it on its side on a hard surface. do it while you hear the Hard drive spinning. NO JOKE. my ipod started working right after. however, the sound is really crappy now, but i was at least able to backup my files, and i'm going to use my warrenty to get a new one. the reason this works is beacuse somehoew the hd pin is out of place, and you can hear it clicking. hitting it will get it back in place. i know this sounds crazy, but trust me, it will stop skipping songs and freezing, and will appear on your computer. I warn you however, if you break your ipod doing this, dont blame me, i'm just saying this because it worked for me. give it a try if nothing else works. hope this helps. itunes 5 was really bad. anyone know where to get itunes 4.9, that was fine for me, and i had a separate podcasting program anyway.

    Hi Mark,
I tried entering the serial number onto the apple website, but it says my iPod had not been registered (although I have registered it!).
Anyway, I phoned apple support and they told me to go to depot.info.apple.com/ipod and fill in a service request. Unfortunately it said that my iPod is out of warranty, so I had to phone again to get them to update their records about the and they are sending out a service box in the next few days
I think I'm definately going to take out the applecare service now!

  • My iPod classic has stop working and when ever i try to synch it there is a alert saying that do not disconnect it and there are some songs which when i try to play the iPod re-starts again so please tell me what is the issue

my iPod classic has stop working and when ever i try to synch it there is a alert saying that do not disconnect it and there are some songs which when i try to play the iPod re-starts again so please tell me what is the issue and some sound is comming from the back pannel .
so please do something about it and give me the solution
    thank you,
    Saajan jain

To give you something, I need something too, like
How old is the Ipod? (if it is still under warranty, then send it to Apple service shop)
Are you running Windows iTunes or Mac iTunes?
What do you see on the iPod screen?
My guess is, your iPod classic is more than 2 years old and out of warranty, and the hardisk has gone kaput! and need to be replaced.
    Have a nice day!

  • Groan... iPod skipping songs and other things..

    Greetings,
My iPOD is a year old today,I have the "old and archaic" 20GB iPods. Recently i've noticed that my iPod has started skipping songs, that is I select a song to be played and the song features comes up, but then it skips forward to the song ahead. Also this past weekend, when I tried to play my IPOD and I turned it on.. I got an message that says www.apple.com/ipod/support...Also for some reason when I press play the pause sign and the lock feature is still on my iPOD.
This is only recently, after I got the last iPOD update that I seem to be having problems. A bit ironic, I think.
Anyway, i'd be greatful for some help.
    Thanks

Hi! Had problems on the iTunes. My iPod didnt show up and the technical help person from the phone service told me to restore it. That was just a week after I bought it... It's the first time I have an iPod. Just don't know what's normal or not. Can't imagine why I have all the problems if I'm following the "rules" if you know what I mean. Love the iPod but I'm kind of disappointed by all the problems...
