Find your nearest apple service centre which you can find under the support link and give them a ring ,i did after my 80gb ipod went wrong all of a sudden after a month, they said bring it in we will try to fix it and if we cant we will get you a new one which they did and it took 2 days ,I had spent the previous 2 weeks trying various solutions from this forum untill it eventually fell into a continuous loop of "needs to be restored",warranty covers you for a year from purchase

  • Ipod needs to but wont reformate

I have a 30 Gb ipod that is corrupted and needs to be Reformatted. Whenever i go through itunes I try the restore option but it says there is an error and stops.
I decided to try and reformat my ipod by going through my computer and going to the drive that it was in but it always stops about 4 minutes into the process and says "windows is unable to restore."
I have no other ideas on how to my ipod. My warranty had already expired and i cannot afford to fix it right now. Thank you for all replies

try reinstalling your itunes completely, and then it might update, i have the same issue, this only helps if you want to get new songs on. right now if i wanna update my ipod i have to reinstall itunes to do so, and i think my ipod is fine but theres some sort of error in itunes that keeps reoccuring, so yeah try reinstalling and updating and lets see what happens.

  • Upgrade to iOS4, now needs Restored but wont let me restore! (Err 21?)

    Hi there,
I hope someone can help as the Apple line is closed and I am travelling with my 7 week old son to Ireland tomorrow and at present have no phone!
I started to Sync my iPhone 3GS as usual and was asked to update to iOS4. No problem. Downloaded then iTunes started to do its thing with my iPhone. A few mins later an error message arrived that a duplicate file existed.
Tried to sync again but this time it would only let me press Restore. In my summary page on iTunes all note of my serial number, phone number etc were coming up as N/A.
On pressing restore, it tries extracting software, verifying with Apple, prepares ihone to restore then says:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error ocurred(21).
From here it just takes me to a link saying update itunes if necessary, restart pc etc. baasically your usual options which have not helped.
I travel in 10 hours, cannot get to an Apple store before this and will have to fly without a phone to another country. Can anyone help with this problem? Many thanks

Maybe try this. Check this thread or search with keyword "duplicate file" under iphone.

i have the new iPod nano? but wont sync to my home pc? it connected then tells me i have to disconect then also re connect after?
    but never gets any further?

If you mean that iTunes does not see your iPod:
    - Did you try everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - Try another cable
    - Try another computer
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • ICloud   Restoring my ipod question. I just restored my ipod touch for the first time because it was unreadable in itunes, and I had manually backed up my ipod to iCloud prior. The ipod is restored, but cloud not downloading my messages, pictures?

iCloud + Restoring my ipod question.
I just restored my ipod touch for the first time because it was unreadable in itunes, and I had manually backed up my ipod to iCloud prior.
The ipod is restored, but cloud not downloading any of my messages and pictures, and the other files that iCloud claims to back up?
How do I put these on my restored itouch?
    Thanks everyone

What messages? What app? The backup includes Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS),
What photos? How did the photos get on the iPod
The backup only includes photos in the iPod's camera roll album.

  • Tried to Update but now iPod needs restore.. but it won't restore!!

I connected my iPod touch 2G to my mac to add Monopoly on. When I initially connected the iPod, iTunes prompted me to update my iPod software. I duly downloaded this. When it tried to install it got almost to the end and then gave me an unknown error. I tried to do the install again but it said my iPod needed to be restored... great, but everything is backed up so not too much of an issue. Click 'restore', again, almost gets to the end of the process then gives an error (14, I think?)
I have tried also to reset my iPod but to no avail, when it switches on it just gives me the screen saying it's connected to iTunes via USB
What can I do? Is there any other way to restore the iPod without using iTunes? Couldn't find anything on the support page for if the reset or restore didn't work

    Thank you for the response.
At this time if the iPod Touch is still within warranty you may wish to book an appointment at your local Apple Retail Store for further assistance and service exchange options.
You can also contact your local iPod Touch Technical Support group for further assistance.
If you purchased your iPod for another store other then Apple you may wish to also check with them for exchange assistance as well.

  • IPod touch full but wont show music or videos

I just downloaded itunes 10 and threw a bunch of movies onto my ipod. I went to go watch them today at work and it says there is no video and no music on my ipod. but when i look at General>About> there are no songs no videos but there is only 178 mb avail on a 16gb ipod. so the Ipod is full but nothing is showing up. any ideas?

Here's what I've noticed with my 2nd generations iPod Touch since upgrading to iOS 4.
I'll download some new content, a couple of podcasts let's say. iTunes shows that I have nine (9) unplayed podcasts. I'll manually tell iTunes to sync the changes to my iPod but when that process completes, I'll notice that the iPod only shows eight (8) podcast present on the device. So I manually tell iTunes to sync again, this time the missing podcast gets transferred to the device and now iTunes and the iPod Touch both show that they have nine (9) podcasts.
But there's a problem. Before manually sync'ing the first time, iTunes says that there is .19 GB of "Other" content on my iPod Touch. After manually sync'ing the second time however, that number grows to .29 GB.
So here's what I think is happening. The podcast that didn't sync the first time gets trapped on the device as "other" content because its transfer during the first sync process fails. Now that space isn't recovered on the iPod Touch device unless you "restore" your device. Not good! I think a bug needs a killing.

  • Iphone 3gs in recovery; needs restore; but gets error code

    I have a new 3gs Iphone.
I installed the newest version of ITUNES- 9.something.
I start the SETUP IPHONE PROCESS.
I am told that I need to upgrade to new Iphone OS.
It takes 2 hours to download.
    I get an error
I try to reconnect the iphone - GET MESSAGE that the phone is in recovery and needs to be restored.
I start restore - i get an error. I start again. It shows all the green bars as completed but then freezes. I restart the computer.
ITUNES tells me again that Iphone is in recovery and needs restore.
I start restore. I get a message: The Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (14).
I don't know what to do.

I have had this same problem, and you'll find out it will eventually work, but then after that your phone wont even start up and wont be able to connect to your computer! it's only allowing me to make Emergency Calls
This new update has really peeved me, i need my phone for work.
Try another computer, updating itunes, or different ports, restarting computer. Only thing i can think of sorry.

  • Nano needs restore, but invisible to iTunes!

I have a nano that needs to be restored, but apparently the only way to restore it is through iTunes. Unfortunately, the nano is not recognized by iTunes, but it does show up on Windows as a removable drive. Catch-22! What do I do?
All the troubleshooting articles on apple.com are from the point-of-view that there's something wrong with the computer, but my other nano is recognized by iTunes and works just fine. There really needs to be a way to restore right from the nano menu, otherwise I have to send it back to China for service.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi mplseric,
With your iPod first disconnected from your computer, have you tried forcing your iPod into disk mode? For instructions, see this Knowledge Base article:
    Putting iPod into disk mode
With the iPod in disk mode, try connecting it to your computer. See if you can get it recognized in iTunes for a restore, by connecting it in disk mode.
Can you get your iPod recognized in iTunes, or not?
If not, then you might want to try finding a Mac computer, and restore your iPod through iTunes on there, since it just might be recongized better on a Mac.
You can always go to an Apple Store, if one is near you, or to some place else, like CompUSA, that should have Mac computers on display.

  • Just replaced ipod classic battery but wont recharge after it went dead??

Oringinal battery was dead so i replaced the battery, when i replaced the battery the new battery had some charge to it and would charge but only half way, so i let it die so i could recharge it to calibrate the battery but it wont recharge it just says charging, please weight. Is it possible that i got a defetive battery?? or somthing wrong with the main board??

Thank you, I just read a forum reponse that spoke about charging as it related to use of an iHome charge and the disconnecting of that iPod at:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/734757?start=0&tstart=0
I believe this answered my question as well, especially talking about the new Lithium-ion batteries as are found in the 6th generation iPod.
Helpful and thanks - more discussion continuing might be helpful as well.

  • Ipod said it needs restored but Itunes or windows won't recognize

I have an 80 gb classic and it said one day (after being fully charged) that it needed to be restored. So I plug it in and Itunes won't recognize it and windows shows it as a removeable disk but there's no info there either. I have the latest version of Itunes and have tried everything. I plugged my wifes 80 gb in and it syncs fine. I'm just hoping I don't have to get a new one. Any ideas would be helpful, thanks.
