80GB IPOD to TV

I am using the 5 wire conector and getting audio only. I have tried setting tv out in all positions, on, off and ask, no video. I use my friends IPOD Touch and I get it all, great video and audio. What should I do?

I am assuming that by "5 wire" you mean some sort of cable that plugs into the port you plug your headphones into.
I recommend that you set the setting to 'ask' because it will ask you if you want to watch it on tv or the ipod when you want to play a video.
You will need to know that if you are using a non apple cable, the pins have been switched to the following:
-Plug the red RCA plug into your TV's yellow RCA jack.
-Plug the yellow RCA plug into your TV's white RCA jack.
-Plug the white RCA plug into your TV's red RCA jack.
I am also curious to know more about that ipod touch video out though. I thought it wasn't compatible.

I have an iphone 4 connected to my imac/itunes account using its own designated email address. However, I also have an 80gb ipod classic which is connected to my general email address. How can I delete this and transfer the ipod to the same account as the iphone 4. Thankyou

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID.  So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account.  Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

  • Movies on a new 80gb ipod

does anyone know when i can download movies on my new 80gb ipod. The uk website says it not available yet, the american website won't let me
    Any ideas?

they haven't opened the UK movie store yet.. i think i heard its coming around christmas maybe even later? somebody will have to clarify that though..
so for now you'll only be able to get things you already own on dvd and rip them to your computer.. or you can find them somewhere else online, but then you will probably have to convert them to mp4..

  • My classic 80GB ipod wont turn on, wont restore, it says it may be corrupted and all it does is constantly beep when I attach to my laptop! Windows Vista, 32bit, new version of itunes, etc.. WHAT the ****!? What do I do!?

My 80gb ipod classic is dead! It wont power on, it wont restore, it constantly beeps and shows the apple logo then my laptop says ipod in recovery mode, may have to restore. I read all the other problems and they are similar to mine but have not found anyone saying the screen does not power on except to show logo and do not disconnect. The annoying beeping sound stops after a while, then absolutely nothing! Is the battery removable, what do I do?

I did that and then tried to log onto the Itunes again and a prompt came up and siad the Itunes file wasn't properly installed and it might be corrupted and I should retry it again.
Let's try a repair install of iTunes.
    Restart the PC first.
If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair".
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", and click "Change". Select "Repair" and click "Next" as per the following screenshot:
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • ITunes crashes when I plug in 80GB iPod classic

My 80GB iPod classic had been working flawlessly with my MacBook Pro until yesterday afternoon, when I plugged it in to sync and iTunes crashed with this error:
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000014
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, deleting my iTunes library file, and using another computer to restore my iPod to the factory settings all with the same result. I can sync my Nano to this computer still, and I can sync my Classic to other computers. This particular computer/iPod combo has gone wonky on me. I've wracked my brain trying to come up with any system changes prior to the sudden failure and I can't think of any.
This is a work machine and I have FileVault turned on per company policy. I can't take the machine to a Genius Bar since it's not mine, and while IT looks the other way on the matter of personal music on the work machine, I can't ask them for support since it's not a business necessity. Any ideas on how to solve? Am I out of luck on getting a replacement iPod since it syncs with other machines?

    RevDoddy,
If iTunes is crashing, why don't you send a crash log to those lazy Apple engineers.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log" If there's already a file there, it most likely has multiple crash logs in it (new crash logs are just appended to the end of the file). So, delete this file. This will make sure you're not sending extra information I don't need. These crash logs are text files, so you can open them in notepad or whatever to see what information you're sending.
So, get the machine setup to collect crash logs, do the thing that makes iTunes crash. You need to send that file to our buddy Roy. Make sure that you include:
    (1) the drwtsn32.log file.
    (2) the link to this thread.
    (3) a one line description of your problem, i.e. "iTunes crashes on launch".
    (4) the username that you're using here in the discussion boards.
    (5) the link to this thread.
    (6) tell him Toonz sent ya.
Roy is getting a little swamped with messages and needs to make sure he gets all the information. And if he doesn't get all this information, the message is just going to get dropped on the floor.

  • I am getting an 'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted" message from my 80GB iPod Classic.

I am getting an 'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted" message from my 80GB iPod Classic. It plays music fine and has 2.5 GB of space left. I get the message on multiple PC's and USB ports. I have tried resetting it and using Disk Mode. Any advice?

    In my Computer folder
    Right Click the iPod
    Select properties->tools->error check
tick both fix filesystem error and surface scan.
    Press  OK
May take about 2 hours to complete.
PS: dont be in a hurry to disconnect your iPod, as future recurrence will come, as the HD is almost full, do back up your iTunes library, before your iPod HD gives the dreaded fatal Red X sign.
    Good Luck!

Hi - I am the proud new owner of a 80GB ipod and i have also purchased the AV connection kit so that i can use the ipod with my tv and home sound system. In the kit are several docks stations but none say that they are compatable with the 80GB model - can anyone help me before i start taking the packaging apart

The iPod Nano and the Fifth Generation iPods have a feature called hibernation. • Itunes playlists no longer showing up in my 5th Gen 80GB ipod

Ok, my ipod 5th Gen 80GB ipod works fine, all of my music is in there, and I can successfully sync with the latest version of itunes. The problem is: I can see my playlists in itunes on my laptop, I can sync my ipod successfully, but the playlists do not show up on my ipod. I have already tried resetting my ipod and restarting my computer.
    I'm stumped on this one

    Hello steelydan0613,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How do you have your iPod set up to sync music? Manually or automatically? If you sync automatically, how do you have your iPod set up to sync music from under its Music tab in iTunes? You may want to double check these settings.

  • 80GB iPod Classic looks to have deleted all my songs after iTunes update - please help!!!

I know there have been topics about this in the past, but I haven't found a solution to my particular case in any of them. So I'm sorry that this topic may seem redundant, but I really need help.
I have an 80GB iPod classic I bought 5+ years ago. It has been running fine for months. After I downloaded and installed the new iTunes upgrade however, when I connected the iPod it gave me the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of .... iPod. Please restore etc". I really don't want to have to restore it and lose my music, as it is almost full of music, much of which is hard to find. I don't often back up my library (I know, I know), but I have one from a few months ago I can use if I really have to (it'll be better than starting completely over), but I don't know where that would be saved on my computer. My music isn't saved in another folder so simply restoring and putting the music back into my iPod isn't an option either.
I am running Windows XP home edition if that helps with solutions.
Please help me, I really don't want to have to start my music collection from scratch.

    I did a mistake

  • I have a 80GB Ipod and it is not recognized by itunes. It seems to have occured after upgrading to itunes 10.

I have a 80GB Ipod. Its been working fine for the past couple years, unitl now. I haven't downloaded any new music on to the Ipod in months. So I usually charged it directly from an outlet. I updated the itunes just recently, so I think it maybe the itunes itself.  I plugged the Ipod onto my computer like always and it read connected, but it never opened up the Itunes like it usually does. Opened Itunes manually and my Ipod didn't show up on the device tab or anywhere else. Tried to reset it...that didn't work. Re-downloaded Itunes, that didn't work either. Once it showed up on Itunes, so tried restoring, but it said that it could not work, because it showed the Ipod as being used somewhere else? At that time it showed up on my computer as a device with a removable storage. Not sure what else to do. Do anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks But all those options assume that my IPOD is being seen by windows.
I get this error when I connect and the software is trying to install the drivers

  • Genius Bar Response to 80gb iPod Classic not syncing to iTunes 9.0

Ok so basically I have been having the same problems as every other 80gb iPod classic owner that has been on this discussion board. Ever since I downloaded the new iTunes update, my ipod has been unable to sync to my computer. Now I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting steps (uninstall, restore, reset, different computer, etc) and NOTHING works. Basically when I connect my ipod I get the clicking noise it makes when it connects, however that is quickly followed by the annoying disconnect sound. My ipod does in fact show up in My Computer, but as far as iTunes is concerned, all I get is a window to pop up in the upper left hand of the screen saying "Verifying files". After that toggles through for about 5 min, I get the error message in the bottom right corner saying something along the lines of E: Ipod control could not be saved, etc.
I finally got so frustrated that I made a genius bar appt. To my dismay, I got the exact response that I was expecting. The, otherwise friendly assistant, had no clue what the problem was with my Ipod. I described all my issues and he even tried restoring the ipod, tried a different computer, etc and after about 30 minutes all he could say was that he didn't know what the problem was. His worthless excuse was simply that it looked like I had some corrosion on the bottom of my ipod and so that might have fried a circuit or something. However my ipod was working completely fine before the new itunes update. In fact when I disconnect from my computer, my ipod seems to be working properly (i.e. it responds to my touch, it cycles through the menus, etc), but unfortunatly all my music is gone.
As I'm sure is the case with most Classic owners, I have had mine for about 2 years and so I was of course out of warranty. My only options at this point are to pay ~ $140 to replace the same 80gb ipod or just buck up and pay $300 for the new iPod Touch. Considering I'm still convinced this is Apple's shady business tactic of phasing out the older gen ipods, I think my best bet is to go with the Touch.
God I hate when they get shady like this.
    Good luck to anyone else.

    1. Your drive will retain the "dirty" status until it has been successfully scanned by a disk check utility.
    2. While there are a number of threads concerning this issue, which I've not personally experienced, I suspect that in comparison to the number of users this represents a tiny fraction of the overall user base. This is not to diminish your right to be frustated, but to point out that, while the problem is readily apparent to you, it may not be sufficently widespread to have come to the attention of Apple's iTunes team or present with enough regularity for them to determine the cause and hence begin the process of creating a fix.
Between our family, for example, we have 3 iPod classics, (1 two years old, 2 brand new), a Nano & a 30Gb ipod Video all of which sync fine. Assuming you get no joy with the steps I outlined earlier it might still be worth checking the status of your iPod's hard drive to eliminate that as a possible cause of problems.
Press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod then press *SELECT & REWIND* to enter the diagnostics screen. Select *Manual Tests > IO > HardDrive > HDD > HDDSMARTData*.
For comparison here are my results:
    Retracts: 861
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2097
    Starts/Stops: 856
    Temp: Current 29C
    Temp: Min 10C
    Temp: Max 50C
When finished press SELECT & MENU for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again. If you have any pending secorts that might indicate that there is a fundemental problem with your iPod's hard drive that, while not preventing you using the menus, is hampering iTunes when it tries to update the iPod.

  • 80gb iPod Classic Not Syncing Correctly, -50 Error

Okay so, I restored my 80gb iPod Classic last night because my music videos were acting screwed up. This one video kept getting half graphics from a video I had watched before it, and other graphics just depicted a pink outline, and other stuff. So I restored it. Today, only 16 out of 281 songs/music videos will sync onto my iPod, when it says it has 166ish songs synced. Then when it gets to that point, it gives me the -50 error. I dont know whats wrong with it or how to fix it. I looked at that article this website has with the .dll registery files, I did that and it didnt work. I havent made any other changes to this laptop either.

    Okay, some new things.
I just switched my entire iPod library to my desktop computer, instead of my mom's.
I thought maybe it'd fix my classic iPod. I was wrong <_<.
Now I've been getting errors, in order, -69, -50, and now disc cannot be found.
What the heck is up with my classic. My nano is working fine, but I love my classic because my nano is almost filled because of all the songs I have.

  • Dying to use my 80GB iPod, but iTunes won't cooperate... Please help!

I've had my new 80GB iPod for over a week, and I'm getting no use out of it because of iTunes.
I first installed iTunes 7 right after getting my new iPod. It took several tries to install it. After I thought it worked, it ended up not working because QuickTime hadn't installed properly. I uninstalled iTunes, installed an older standalone version of QuickTime and then upgraded with the iTunes 7 installer. When I plugged my iPod in, the Setup Assistant never ran because iTunes wouldn't detect my iPod. One day, the Setup Assistant spontaneously decided to run, and I assumed everything would be working.
After that one occasion, iTunes would no longer detect my iPod unless I went through the process of turning off the iPod service, plugging the iPod in, restarting the service and manually opening iTunes. I was able to sync only a fragment of my iTunes library because iTunes just stops detecting my iPod within a few moments -- I'm good for 2 minutes or LESS. If this happens, I have to close iTunes and repeat the process of stopping/restarting the iPod Service all over again.
I updated iTunes yesterday, and it's even more difficult to get iTunes to detect my iPod. Simply stopping/restarting the iPod Service doesn't always work, and I ofter have to restart the computer and then go through the iPod Service routine. It detects the iPod less than half of the time, and still loses it after only a few moments of recognizing it. I wanted to restore the iPod and start from scratch, but I can't because iTunes stops detecting the iPod before the restore process begins.
I've completely removed iTunes/QuickTime several times and have done everything suggested in the support articles, but nothing works... I'd really appreciate any suggestions because this is driving me absolutely crazy.
      Windows XP

excellent news. glad you're up and running again.
yes, it would be nice if it was easier to find this one. it might be good, for example, if there were links from some of our other main troubleshooting documents to it. like this one:
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
(if you have the time and the inclination, please feel free to send in feedback on the difficulties involved in finding it. the links at the right of each KB article in the "did this article help you?" box go straight through to feedback forms.)
as to why having Terminal Services enabled is so important with 7 ... i'm not precisely sure. one of my first thoughts (when i found out about this one) was "so, what is Terminal Services?"
from what i was able to track down at MS:
Terminal Services Service Appears in All Versions of Windows XP
... it seems plausible that some of the new functionality we get with ipods in itunes 7 depends on Windows components that rely on Terminal Services. but i'd be guessing if i tried to say what functionality and what Windows components were involved.
