80gb Video iPod Stuck in Shuffle...

I have an issue where my iPod seems to be stuck in shuffle mode no matter what I do. I have set Shuffle to Off in the settings and whenever I go into an album or artist it still shuffles everything and if the album is less than a certain amount of songs it just goes back to album selection screen after scanning through.
Anyone else have any issues like this?
Thanks.

Haven't tried to reset yet..as my main pc is at home and I am not...
But here is what I think is happening..if anyone knows this for a fact please let me know:
My iPod has the same settings for a playlist as in iTunes..so if in iTunes the playlist is set to shuffle...no matter what you set on the iPod it will shuffle that playlist.
Least that is what I can think of for my situation right now..as I have one playlist that is behaving properly...but others still shuffle...and just by selecting an album in Music causes shuffle too...so maybe they are related in some aspect with iTunes settings.

  • 80GB Video iPod - Shuffling playlist?

    I have 2 iPods,
8GB nano shuffles tracks inside a playlist by default.
I'm still having trouble figuring out how to shuffle "playlist" on 80GB video iPod.
    Please help.

    Hello.
I have found a temporary work around the iPod playlists not recognizing videos. I too think this a really big problem. I just did not realize just how bit it was!
I use mine to pass thew time whil I workout at the Gym.
This is my temeporary soulution util apple fixes the problem.
I used a video editing software Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 because I am just descovering QuickTime.
I have copied my desired videos into the Adobe program.
I then export the one video made up of many videos using MPEG4.
I Then use the quick Time Player Pro to convert the MPEG4 video to iPod.
I then Sync my iPod to my computer.
I create the lenght of the video time I desire for my workout which is between 45 minutes to one hour.
    I have created various videos.
This is in no way as good as the playlist but it is certainly much better than the present sintuation.
PS: I hope Apple fixes this problem soon!
If anyone needs some help with this you can email me at [email protected]
    Thank you.

  • Error message when connecting 80GB Video iPod

I'm getting this error message when trying to connect my 80GB Video iPod:
"The iPod (name) cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-48)."
    Never seen this one before.
I haven't synced this iPod for a few weeks but it always behaved fine before, taking a few seconds to appear in iTunes (v7.5) then syncing perfectly when I hit the Sync button (I have it set to manually sync only because sometimes I want to change the contents or only sync music).
Before syncing on this occasion, I did an iPod software update via iTunes - iTunes said there was a newer version (1.2.3). After the update, I disconnected the iPod for a few minutes (somehting I wanted to check content before syncing), then reconnected it. At first iPod took about a minute to show up in iTunes - way too long. I Reset the iPod and tried again but still LONG delay to appear in iTunes (again about 1 minute). I did another Reset - same result. Then I did a complete Restore, after which syncing to restore the contents gave problems - it refused to finish the sync. I had to disconnect and start again, syncing the data one section per sync session - Contacts, music, videos, iCal - which seemed to work fine. Then I disconnected, waited a few minutes then reconnected the iPod to check. It wouldn't connect at all. Did a Reset, tried o connect again and it did connect but then proceeded to resync all my contacts taking almost 30 minutes (way too long) to do so (I had made NO changes in Address Book since that data was put in there). I tried to reconnect again but then got the error message (above). Did another total Restore and the same shenannigans happened. Now, I have an iPod with data on it and works fine, but iTunes won't recognise it - just gives this error message every time.
By the way, my 8GB Nano (software 1.1.3) seems to sync fine on the same system, same computer.
Could this be the 1.2.3 iPod software giving issues? I appreciate any help because I also use this iPod for recording for my work, which getting a little urgent now.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

  • Cheapest way to purchase Movies & Games to the 80GB Video IPod

I just purchased this Video Ipod for my son and now he keeps hitting me up to purchase Movies & Games for it. Is there a cheap way of doing this? Like a all day pass? or unlimited downloads for a certain period of time? Can any one help me? He is going to bust the bank soon.

The iTunes Store has fixed pricing per download. There is no subscription service or "one-day pass" type downloads.

  • Is the 80GB Video Ipod more fragile than the 30GB one?

I plan to get an IPOD video, and my concern here is whether the 80GB one might have a more fragile HD since it is denser

I doubt there is any difference. The future terrabyte model might be a different story.

  • New 80GB Video Ipod having all sorts of problems!!!

I just got the 80GB for christmas and I have had nothing but problems. I actually haven't gotten it to play continuously without freezing:
-It freezes often and I have to let the battery completely die and recharge it in order for it to respond.
-I fully charge the battery and then when I turn it on it says that the battery is really low.
-Sometimes my computer recognizes it and sometimes it doesn't?
Last night i charged it for over four hours. When I went to turn it on today, it turned on and then immediately froze on the main menu. I managed to reset it but the battery is at only 50% after fully charging it last night and not using it?
Did I get a lemon or is everyone else having these problems? Having a brand new ipod freeze on an 8 hour plane flight is a real drag.
    Thanks,

As far as freezing up....have you tried restoring your iPod to resolve this issue? Where is your music from.....CD? iTunes Music Store?
Do note that if your computer is set to go to to sleep then it will not pass a charge to your iPod. Although you think it is charging all night long, really it's not. So check System Preferences > Energy Saver for your sleep settings and turn sleep off.
A good tip about charging. When you are done charging and disconnect the iPod from the power source you should reset it..Hold the Menu+Select button for about 5-10 seconds and it will restart. Upon restart the iPod goes thru certain checks with one of those being to update the battery icon. Sometimes you just aren't really seeing the proper battery status. So just reset it next time and see what it shows then.

  • Updated My 80gb Video ipod and now messed up.

I updated my ipod 80gb the other day and now the music and movies will not show on my ipod but will show them in my itunes on my ipod. Is there anyway to fix that but keeping all my music and movies on my ipod that were on there.

  • This is a question for Someone with a UK 80gb video ipod, NOT A CLASSIC

Can someone please tell me if this works
    Open itunes, connect pod
Select all in ipod (not itunes library , while connected)
    Get info
Slide the vol slider all the way to 100
Wait a few moments for the magic to happen
Then is the output louder, like it makes it on my 60gb ipod
Not just full volume half way as some suggest, but LOUDER
plugging into a recording device and watching the meter go up more is proof that my ears are not lying
My 2nd and 5th gen ipods do this but it has no effect on a classic
I would say around 60gb of my music is barely audible (Ripped vinyls so they are not as loud as CDs)
which is why Im after a 80gb 5.5 gen but dont fancy wasting more money after the fiasco called a classic ipod
    Many thanks

    Why aren't they?
I've watched your previous threads on this subject with the same trepidation as Meg St. Clair, deggie, Jeff Bryan and Zevoneer (all of whom have a lot of knowledge and earn my respect for it), but I have hesitated to respond for obvious reasons. Until now.
You mention ripped vinyl being quieter than CDs. Perhaps you should get the level right on the ripped vinyl before importing it into iTunes. Then it would be (almost) the same as CDs.
I use Audacity to rip vinyl to .mp3 for importing to iTunes. Whatever programme you use (if it's any good) should have similar feature to the one I'm about to describe. Once recorded into Audacity and trimmed to length, select all (of the file) and click on Effect/Amplify . A dialogue box comes up which tells you how much amplification will be applied and the new peak amplitude (dB). You should not go above the 0dB mark, nor should you "allow clipping" because you will introduce distortion and/or "clip off" the loudest sounds which will sound dreadful. (I actually amplify to a new peak of -0.3dB, that's my safety margin.)
I mentioned before that the file would now be almost the same as a CD. A CD has a wider dynamic range than vinyl (the difference between the softest and loudest sounds) and many recent CDs also have far more bass than vinyl, which was limited in this respect due to the technology available at the time. Consequently, your ripped vinyl-to-mp3 will probably never be as "punchy" as CD, but at least there will be less difference if the dB level is similar. You could also boost the bass in Audacity - before amplifying - but be very cautious because it's a crude adjustment and if you over-do it, the result will be very tiring when you listen to the song more than once! I speak from experience!
If you use the "boost" feature in iTunes *and it actually does something", it will probably introduce distortion, especially if you simply "blanket boost" all your mp3s by the same amount. It's a very crude method of achieving very little. it should be used selectively and with caution.
By the way, I have a 5th gen late model UK iPod and a 160GB Classic! Whether or not it, or they both have a volume cap - live with it!

  • 80GB VIDEO IPOD STARTED MALFUNCTIONING IN 6 VERY UNUSUAL WAYS! PLEASE HELP!

I just got an 80GB iPod yesterday, and it's already giving me trouble. It's cutting off, giving me "sad faces", not turning on/off, making weird beeping noises and a few minutes ago it picked up a popular local radio station completly on it's own. As well as it is skipping and songs are only playing backwards and they start on they're own, even when it's turned off it turns it's self back on. It has not been abused or mistreated and has recieved perfect care. Please help!

check this out. u received the ipod yesterday, which means u have a 14-day grace period to exchange it 4 a new one! : )
it would be easiest done thru an apple store. so make sure 2 bring ur receipt and the original ipod box with everything in it.
i tell u that cuz the apple store told me the same thing tonight. haha.
    good luck! : )

  • Error 1418 on BRAND NEW Video ipod - Only 48 hours old!

    Hi,
Just upgraded from a click wheel ipod to a new 80GB video Ipod. Installed itunes 7.02 and everything worked fine. Last night got the message saying an update was avaliable for my ipod so I clicked update and since then I get the following messages
    1. The ipod could not be read from or written to.
    2. The ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored
    3. Unknown error - 1418
    I have tried
    1. 5r's
    2. Reformat through windows
The ipod now says it is corrupt and needs to be restored through itunes but itunes only returns the 1418 message.
I have googled this to death and there seems to be alot of issues with the new firmware. I am really annoyed as I havent even had chance to listen to my music yet and ive spent alot of money on it.
Any one have any ideas please, any other Video users had a similar problem after the firmware update?
    Thanks

The link works for me. However, here's the post.
iTunes7 & 5th gen iPod updating - is this possible solution? (winXP)

Downloaded iTunes 7 and you've gone through the 5 R's until your red in the face?
    * This probable solution 'stumbled upon' using a 60GB video. I have no idea if the process will work the same for nano. But if your desperate and have backed up your library... full steam ahead.
If you've noticed that your iPod does not show up in My Computer, but shows up in iTunes, and the new Update or Restore option within iTunes (Summary tab of a recognized iPod) doesn't work (choosing 'Update' gives you error 1417 and 'Restore' gives you error 1418 - whatever they mean) then give this a try:
    1. Restart your computer - just to make sure we're all on the same page
    2. Start up/Load iTunes
    3. Connect your iPod to your computer - it may take a little time for iTunes to connect to your device
    4. When the dialogue box pops up telling you that a new version of firmware (ver. 1.2) is available choose: INSTALL
    5. As iTunes shows you a progressive bar of 'installing' (the bar scrolls across again and again) use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option in your taskbar and stop "Apple iPod USB Device". The computer will then tell you that the device can now be removed
    6. "Installing" continues... plug in/connect iPod again. The "Install" continues like nothing's happened. Weird, huh?
    7. Apple logo and Update status bar should now appear on your dimmed iPod screen (because of no backlight)
    8. At this point, dialogue box pops up on computer to tell you that updating continues
    9. "Do Not Disconnect" symbol will then show on your iPod
    10. Process finishes after a time, and now the Summary tab says the iPod has been updated.
HA!!! If this is all that troubles you - HUZZAH! And I hope this helped.
Now that we've come this far... I've found that when I normally open iTunes and plug in my iPod to aunto-sync, I now get ERROR (-50) -> Mac needs to get a database online or something to tell me what these 'errors' mean so I don't freak out when I get one...
    1. Go BACK to the Summary tab or your recognized deive in iTunes. Now choose RESTORE. Make sure whatever is on your iPod can be replaced
    2. This part takes time
    3. Computer will pop with dialogue box saying that iPod is restored and being changed to factory settings
    4. Prompt then pops up for you to name your little iPod. At this stage you can choose to 'Auto-sync songs and vids when connected' or 'Auto-sync photos' and from which directory. It's up to you.
    5. iTunes will then thank you for registering your iPod. From this point, the files are copied to your device. Depending on how large your library is affects how long this process takes.

  • New 80GB Video Problems-TV Shows

My wife got me an 80GB Video Ipod for Christmas. I bought the entire season of the Office from Itunes. After I watch a specific episode, it seems to not be on the TV Show menu on my Ipod anymore. If I sync up to Itunes, it doesn't get replaced on my Ipod.
Any idea why my shows are disappearing?
    Thanks

Make sure the episodes you wish to sync have checkmarks.
Also make sure your iPod (click in iTunes) says sync only checked.
