80gig Ipod paper weight

I dropped my 80 gig ipod and the screen cracked so i took it to apple and told them its my fault i'll pay for the cost of the screen they told me just buy a new ipod it will cost you $350 dollars to fix. my ipod is less then a week old.
I dont know what to do now, but i cant see it costing $350 dollars to fix, i asked what if I had the 30gig thats only $250 dollars would it still cost me $350 dollars to fix.. After that they through me out of the apple repair center.
So now I am stuck with a 80 gig ipod with a cracked screen, and no way to fix it.
my question is what to do now??

When they girl told me there was nothing I can do to fix my 1 week old ipod i asked to speak to the manager, she told me that the manager was not there, the guy beside me told me he just spoke to the manager 1 min before. At that point i got a bit louder, the manager came up and said listen nothing we can do anymore questions, at that point my blood began to boil and i got a little loud, thats when i was told to leave the repair center.
The biggest problem i have now is Im from canada and my ipod was bought there, I am now ion china full time for work, all this took place in Hong Kong, so im thinking im Fubar.
the screen in the new 80gig ipod is much brighter then the old 30-60 gigs so I need a good source to fix it with the new bright screen. sending it back to the states to fix is going to cost me an arm and a leg.
there needs to be a fix here in hong kong, so far the service i got from apple blows chunks. If anyone who i can call in HK or China please do let me know (I need my IPOD)
Thanks in advance
Gary

Are you willing to buy a newer iPod? How about the 4g @ 16gb for $199* usd or the 5g @ 32gb for $299*.

  • 1st gen iPod became a paper weight after last update

For the last couple of months, I've posted and read all posts, visited the Apple store three times to check in with the Geniuses, have emailed Apple with feedback, have upgraded and downgraded systems with different OSX versions, have tried 8 different Apple computers including desktops, powerbooks, and mac minis, have tried several PCs as well, have followed pretty much every direction posted here as suggestions to make my 1st generation iPod (5Gb) appear on my desktop. So far, I've been unsuccessful making my iPod one very expensive paper weight.
Apple, please acknowledge there is a problem... I've been to the Apple store geniuses (three different Apple stores) and they have failed to even recognize this as a problem, at some points even hinting I should just exchange it for a newer model... my iPod worked fine before the last iPod updater... and it works fine with the information it has stored now... but all the functionality I bought it for is gone... no transfers to iTunes, no updating my music, no disk mode, no file storage, etc. etc.
I've been an Apple user since the Apple II, have had innumerable apple systems, have recommended whole colleges and universities and other institutions in the US and abroad to switch to Apple... but now... I am starting to ask myself if Apple pays attention when there's a class action lawsuit at their door. I am starting to believe, unfortunately, that this may be the only (and last) resort left for a loyal customer to at least be heard...
As I have found out, I am not alone in this problem. Many users have in fact reported similar problems (just look at the many posts here). I don't expect magical solutions... but at least Apple should acknowledge a problem to its customers through it support channels... these forums, genius bars, etc... And of course, I only want to restore the original functionality of the machine. No one has ever talked about upgrading the iPod in any way or form... but when you go back as far back as OSX 10.0 and OS 8, going through all the different systems in between, all different iPod updater versions, and it still fails to mount then you have to ask what was in that last software update that completely made this iPod unrecognizable. I am aware that different users may have had different experiences with this problem, but I have also found that there are many that share this frustration.
    Apple... please help. Please.

Just thought I should post what I have tried so far with no luck...
    - Deleted the ktext file, as noted elsewhere.
    - Reset the iPod, many times, the menu + play option
    - Also reset the iPod through the following (undocumented, I believe) key strokes... same menu + play, and then immediately press back(left) arrow, forward(right) arrow and select button... this will launch a diagnostics routine... where you can run many different tests... including a Firewire port test (which it passed), a reset, screen, etc... (Use at own risk...)
    - Charged the iPod via the external charger (not the firewire ports of computer) before resetting, and plugging in the computer.
    - Used a Firewire Cardbus controller card on three different PowerBooks instead of (and in addition to) the Firewire port in those computers... this could have been a solution, since the Cardbus card I have is not capable of providing bus power and it has two Firewire ports... but no luck either.
    - Have tried many different iPod updaters, but in none of them the iPod even mounts or is seen, and the menu items update or restore are greyed out. (this includes all 2003, 2004, and 2005 iPod updaters supplied by Apple, including the one introuduced in November 2005)
    - Left computers without connecting the power plug, in some cases overnight, and certainly more than 30 minutes.. .for PowerBooks, also took the batteries off... as stated in other posts... no luck either.
    - Have tried all these in many different Macs... including: PowerMac 8500 with firewire card running OS9.1, OSX 10.2. Quicksilver 733 running 10.3, Gigabit Ethernet Dual 450 running OSX10.3, Gigabit Ethernet Dual 500 upgraded to Dual 1.2 Sonnet running 10.4.3, (downgraded to 10.0, and then through all updates up to 10.4.3 with no luck in neither of those OSXs), eMac running 10.2, iMac G4 running 10.3.9, PowerBook G3 Lombard running OS9.2.2 and OSX 10.2, PowerBook Pismo running OS 9.2.2 and OSX 10.3, PowerBook G4 Ti 1Ghz, running OSX 10.4.3, PowerBook Al 12" 1.3Ghz running 10.3.9 and upgraded to 10.4.3, PowerBook Al 15 1.67Ghz running 10.4.3. I also tested it on two Pcs, one running XP SP2, and the other running XP.
    - Tried 8 different FireWire cables, including 4 bought at Apple stores.
    - Can't get the iPod to go to disk mode either
Due to the different configurations of systems, software, and hardware, it is very unlikely that it is a problem outside of the iPod itself. This problem, in my case, started after I installed an update to the iPod in combination with iTunes 5.01. That leads me to believe that there is something in the code of the update that disabled the Firewire port (not completely, since it seems to charge over firewire, but no software or harddisk utility supplied by Apple or third party vendors "sees" the iPod when its connected via Firewire).
The fact that the iPod still works and plays the music I had then, (although I am not sure if the files other than music that I had stored there, which are the ones I really need to get out of it now, are still there, since I can't get it to go to disk mode) discards many other hardware failures such as a bad hard drive, etc.
If that update that disabled the Firewire ports in some iPods was only intended for the newer machines (which incidentally don't have FireWire ports - and I mention this because some users have had some success when connecting their iPods via USB, not Firewire, a luxury older iPods don't have) - it was never stated. In fact, even the new iPod updater released on November 2005 states (pretty much the same as all others) that it includes changes for certain iPods but for all others it just installs some older version of the firmware with no changes...
Sooo.... Apple ... .I know this is a tricky one, otherwise you would've already come up with a fix... .but please, acknowledge the problem, and state us if you're working on a solution or if we have to start planning on buying a new iPod... (which of course we shouldn't be forced to... )

  • Paper weight specs for HPLaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw

I have been trying (without success) to find the paper weight specs for my HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw printer. Both the user manual and the online help only offer useless, non-specified info, such as : Use only heavy paper that is approved for use in laser printers and meets the weight specifications for this product. Tried to search for the paper weight specs for this product - no luck! I want to print on 200gsm (laser friendly paper), but don't want to damage my printer. PLEASE help?

I will provide a link to a page that should be able to help out. Once you have the page pulled up click on the drop down titled “Paper-handling Specifications” then click on “Paper Tray Capacities”. That will open a chart that gives chart that list the paper, Paper weight, and the Capacity. I hope that this helps. Here is the link: http://goo.gl/xBtGF.

  • Maximum paper weight for printing with a photosmart 5520 printer needed. Table gives sizes only

    Hi,
I am trying to find out if my printer can print 350 gsm  canvas style A4 photopaper. There is an older post with a link but the links only give the paper size .
There is also a 320 gsm version of this paper.
What is the maximum paper weight?

    Hi Tony,
    On the right side:
HP Brochure Paper and HP Professional Paper
    180gsm
HP Premium Presentation120gsm Paper and HP
    Professional Paper 120gsm

Google is our friend for this sort of conversion / measurement.
Most American made paper is sold by Pound measurement which might be shown on the front of the package.
A chart might be useful to determine what the average home printer uses.
Pounds to GSM Paper Weight Conversion Chart
I am unsure the extent of what you require for this -- the printer may be able to handle the extra weight paper or not.  If the job is one for which you may not need to use the printer again, you might consider using a professional service and not risk your home equipment that may not be suited to this heavy duty service.
    Good Luck!

  • Is my iphone 5 "paper weight"?

Owing old bill, want to unlock...(not my bill). It's not on that new plan that was issued in 2013 where you can unlock after 90 days etc... phone is on an older plan.
Question is, is this $300+ phone just paper weight? What can I do with this?  I'm willing to pay the $50 unlock fee but I'm no way going to pay the ex owners old bill!
    Stuck on Rogers!
Why is it so dam complicated to unlock these things? I mean I couldn't care less about the owing bill to Rogers, it's not mine to owe!
What can I do with this phone?

    Bandit76 wrote:
I knew he had a owing balance, but again not my prob.
As you've discovered, you were wrong. It IS your problem, especially if you want to use it as a phone.
If the phone was originally subsidised by the carrier, and the original purchaser skipped out on thier contract without paying it off or paying the ETF, then technically, it's stolen property. It belongs to the carrier. Just like you can't stop paying off the loan for your car and expect to keep it.
The difference is, most carriers won't bother to pursue that. Instead, they will blacklist the phone and ensure that the person who skipped on the contract can't get service with them, and often with any other carrier, until they pay off the debt. Not to mention reporting it to the credit agencies.

  • Adobe Form (standard) how to set paper weight?

We realized an Adobe Form related to deliveries. The form is printed on a paper with the weight of 160g (which is the double of a normal paper).
When the printer settings are put correctly to 160g the print out releases an error message.
Apparently the form message does commit a paper weight parameter to the printer. The missmatch (form: "normal" paper / printer: 160g) does release an error message. Where does the parameter for the paper weight in the Adobe Form can be found? Where can we change it?
When we change the printer settings to normal paper the form is printed. But with a low printing quality due to the false settings.
Printer is a RICOH Aficio SPC430DN.

    Hi Claudine,
in the form itself you are able to set the specific paper. You should change it here to A4 Special and afterwards modify your XDC-File to this special output-format. To do this you may need someone of the basis-guys also.
Paperformat must be located somewhere when you click on masterpage in your tree. I do not got a system available at the moment

  • Two Aironet AP340 that I use as paper weights!!!

I think it was either the late 90's or early 2000's, I received 2 ap340 devices, didn't know what they were and what to do with them.  I was in a program for beta testing through a company that would send items from various businesses, think that is where they came from.  Anyway, fast forward to 2012, I want to use them for what they are.  I would like to upgrade them to a firmware version that has better wireless security.  That is the problem, I seem to keep hitting a brick wall, don't know where to go to get help but here.  What are my options with these 2 AP's, besides using them as paper weights?  Also I have a USB to serial cable and try to connect to AP's using telnet, I thinik I bricked one!  Don't really know what to do, other then spending many hours trying to do a factory reset, only to waste many hours trying to getting it connected.

For the one with a styling problem, see what you have for View > Page Style
the normal style is default and "No Style" would wipe out styling but in this area it would apply to all pages.
I don't know of an extension that would selectively turn page styling or off, but look at your extensions.
Both problems could be caused by filters added to "Adblock Plus" extension.
Bring up "Open blockable items [Ctrl+Shift+V]" in ADP by right-clicking on the toolbar/addons bar icon or in the add-on's options. See what is being blocked and the filter that is blocking it. You can easily test filters there and turn them on/off and retest. You can see the filter that is blocking an item, you can use the mouse to see where that filter came from. Choices of what columns to display can be made with the little icon to the right of the column headings in the list.
Attached is a picture of blockable items I see for the www.mobileread.com page. To view a page that you need to view or use, you can try modifying your filters or toggling the "State" column (preferred). You can disable Adblock Plus from the extensions options but that defeats the protection it offers.
If seems that the problem would be an extension, or a style, or theme.

  • Speakers are dead paper weights.....

    Let me explain..
On June , 2004, i bought the creative labs Inspire T2900. It worked fine until september. The audio control pod was messing up. I'd have to twist it someway to get it to work. Late september the audio control pod does not produce sound out of the sub or speaker. I emailed Creative tech support and they said they can send me a part request.. that was in october... it is now March 2005... and i still don't have my audio control pod.. soo for the last 5 months my Inspire T2900 has been a huge paper weight.
Everything is connected ( i'm not dumb )
when i turn the knob to turn it on and to adjust the volume i get no sound out of the speakers... crank the bass and no bass comes out of the sub. The stereo jack works because i have an alternate set of speakers plugged into the stereo jack.
Soo.. i have 2 satelites and a sub acting as an extension cord for a stereo jack.
Creative tech support has not helped me one bit. They are like, Check the connection, make sure it's plugged in... i got 3 emails asking me if the connection is firmly pushed in... sooo the 4th person told me to send info about RMA... okay sent it in again... 5th person told me to check the connections.... 6th person told me to send info about RMA... 6th person replied that they will put in a parts request for me. ok..... waited till last week... emailed them and the 6th person said that they were not notified if my part request had failed or not... soo i email them back and they tell me to call creative support and check on the status of my parts request... how do i check the status if i wasn't given a part request number.. soo i emailed them back and i haven't heard since..
reason why i can't order another audio control pod from creative is because it costs 40 bucks US + shipping...
i bought the speakers for 52 Canadian.... why would i buy a part that costs the same as the entire system..... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You'd really have to get back in touch with Support and give them your reference number, so they can look into this for you. If you don't have any luck getting a response, post up your reference number and we'll see what we can do.

  • Is my iPod a paper weight???

Sorry if this post is too long...I'm trying to be specific in case someone can help.
I have a problem with my 2 weeks out-of-warranty 4G 40G iPod. I created a playlist to play songs that I have not heard in awhile. Some songs (artists beginning with the latter part of the alphabet) were playing for about 3-5 seconds than after about a 10 second pause, the next song would start, and the process would repeat. Since I have only filled 20G of 40G, I figured I’d restore and re-upload to my iPod from iTunes. I restored my iPod successfully and “docked” it to re-upload. Everything seemed fine; the iPod was updating successfully…since I have 3000+ songs, I went to bed assuming that my iPod would be ready in the morning. When I woke up, my iPod still said “Do not disconnect”! Now it is not recognized by iTunes or the iPod updater, and while I see it in Windows, I can’t access it. Oddly, if I look at the summary info on my iPod, the songs are there (based on capacity). However, the song total=0. When I try to access the device via Windows, I get an error message telling me that I have a Network or Hardware problem…there is no problem with my Firewire card. I bought the Firewire card because after 6 months my iPod quit working via USB 2.0 (USB 2.0 compatible...sure).
I have reinstalled iTunes & the Updater; I have reset/restored my iPod; I have tried all available connectors... Still not recognized.
When I run the self diagnostics, I get the following results:
    HDD Scan
    End Scan
    112
    RD Fail
    Scan NG
Any info/help would be appreciated since Apple chooses not to resond to my inquiries.
    Thanks!

Good suggestion, thanks. Didn't work though. I already changed the drive letter. When I did, I got a dialog box telling me that my iPod must be updated. Thought that I was getting somewhere...after running the updater, I received the error message "Can't Mount iPod"
    Any ideas anyone?

  • My IPOD is a paper weight

I have a four GB nano (1st gen)
I received a battery warning with what should have been about half a charge left. I immediatly Plugged the IPOD into the USB nad it didn't show up on the source screen in itunes. I left for a few hours thinking it just needed to charge but when I came back there was no change. Nothing displays on the screen. No Apple Logo or error message.
Have repeatedly tried the five Rs
I plugged an IPOD mini into the USB and it worked fine, so it can't be my Cable or software.
Its really dissapoining because I ponyed up extra money to buy the 4GB model thinking it would last me years. Had i known this would of happened, I would have bought the 1GB model for $99

You just bought it? It should still be under warranty.
