  • Email account problem 8220 pearl flip

    Hi there,
Don't know if anyone can help. I recently bought 8220 pearl flip, but can't register my email account!. On the device when I get to the email setup page, it comes up with "Select an email setup option, but it only gives me one option, "Iwant to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server". There are no other choices. I don't want to do this, I just want my personal account on it.
How do I get to do this? It was simple on my Sony ericcson....
Many thanks for any help in advance.
    Regards, Bill.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will then have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.

  • Nothing gets updated on my 8220 Pearl Flip

    Hey
I am trying to update my App World and my BBM to BBM 6 but they never get updated even after rebooting my phone several times. I tried installing them through all the possible ways. Through my phone, through the mail that the website sends and USB but nothing seems to be working. My device is listed in the supporting devices.
What seems to be the problem?
Any help would be appreciated immensely.
    Thank you!

    Hello Yashvi,
    Welcome to the forums.
The reason you are not able to update these applications is most likely do to the version of BlackBerry® device software that is running on your BlackBerry® Pearl™ Flip 8220 smartphone.
Have a look below for the system requirements for the BlackBerry App World™ storefront
BlackBerry App World 2.1 requires BlackBerry® Device Software v4.5 or higher. BlackBerry App World 3.1 requires BlackBerry® Device Software v5.0 or higher (Click "options", then "about" from your smartphone to check your version).
A trackpad, trackball or touch screen
A service plan that includes access to the BlackBerry® Browser
Have a look below for the system requirements for BlackBerry® Messenger
At least 4.0 MB of available application storage
BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0 or later
    A wireless service data plan
You can check your wireless service provider download sit here:http://bbry.lv/ad7CII to see if there is a software update available for your device.
    Hope this helps.

  • On my third BB 8220 Pearl flip and this one has problems

I've had the 8220 for about 6 months now and I'm on my third replacement.  I actually bought two of them originally one for me and one for the wife.  Both of the original phones had calling out problems.  If you started entering a phone number the phone would convert the numbers to letters and say it could not find a contact.  It was very frustrating to say the least.  Sometimes you could call out after four or five trys and other times you had to enter the contact info and call from that.  T-Mobile replaced both phones.
The phone I received as a replacement started turning itself off for no apparent reason and would only come back on after the battery was removed and re-inserted.  T-Mobile had me update the software and fiddle around with other settings, but that did not cure the problem and they replaced that phone.
The new replacement which I've had for three days also has problems.  In bedside mode it will lock up sometime during the night.  The outside screen will be locked on say 10:45 PM and the inside screen will be black.  Again the only way to get it to re-boot is to pull the battery.  If that is not bad enough this one also has intermittent calling out problems.  It's doing just like the first one - start dialing a number and the phone converts the numbers to letters and says it can't find a contact. GRRR.  It does not do it every time, but often enough that I'm about ready to flush the thing down the drain.

Here's a little update.  In addition to the problems I mentioned above now this phone will receive and make calls only intermitently.  My wife tried to call several times while she was out and got a little upset with me because she thought I had turned off my phone. I showed her I had received any calls or voice mails and she tried to call me again and the phone never rang.  I tried to call her and her phone never rang.  So I pulled the battery and the sim card waited a few seconds put them back in and the phone worked again.
So T-Mobile is sending out phone number four.  I'm beginning to think RIM should re-call all the 8220s.  They are not dependable.

  • BB 8220 Pearl Flip drops WiFi calls when synch music with Windows Media Player

I noticed the 8220 crashes or drops calls if I synchronize a playlist of songs with Windows Media Player.  Strangely, if I simply shuffle the songs with no playlist, then I encounter less problems.  Is this because I don't have enough room on the media card after synchronization?  (I set a playlist and sychronize it as there are certain songs I do not wish to place on my phone.)
I'm using: Windows XP, Windows Media Player version 11, Blackberry Desktop Manager version 5.0.1.

I'll try to answer to some of your questions.
The Media Card is according to the OS verison on the BlackBerry. The model doesn't really matter.
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx".
    Maximum capacities:
BlackBerry Device Software Media Card Size Limit
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 -- Up to 2 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 -- Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 -- Up to 4 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 -- Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 -- Up to 8 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above -- Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 -- Up to 32 GB

  • 8220 Pearl Smart? Phone Major Device Issue

Ok, my turn... Here's my request for assistance then...
Blackberry 8220 Pearl Flip. Y'all know the story... the (expletitive of your choice) thing keeps shutting off then takes it's sweet time turning back on. Does this in the middle of calls, in the middle of sending text, in the middle of doing it's most useful job - as a paperweight.
It even does this if I shut off cell myself... A few minutes later I will look over and see it going through that startup sequence that takes about 5 minutes.
I have tried EVERYTHING on this forum. I spent about 6 hours reading and trying everything. Updated software - made it reset more often. Tried the business card between battery and cover, no help. Tried wiping the phone, no help. Tried leaving memory card out, no help. Thought of throwing it out of my truck at 80 mph, *probably* wouldnt help. Tried everything. No help no help no help.
    HELP!!!
    Auto on/off is disabled
Software update seems to be default answer on here... Kinda like Pilot Error anytime there's a plane-crash.
Battery drains completely in about 5 hours from resetting so much. Tried new battery. Drains just as quick.
Tried new SIM - no help
I realize this forum is staffed by volunteers - big surprise to me I must admit... But what can be done? Obviously by now, RIM must be aware of this problem... If they were into any kind of customer service, they'd offer a solution by now - replacement? Cheaper upgrade to phone that actually works? SOME kind of exchange or recall program?
I got my 8220 as a gift, so no receipts... Does this mean I'm screwed?
Provider is Rogers Canada and they are pretty much as useless as my 8220 right now, so please dont suggest going to provider - I have done that too. All they suggest is update software even when you tell them you just did 30 minutes previously. Plus, Rogers employees are definitely not the smartest peanut in the third. Paraphrasing here
I work for AT&T Customer Care and Tech Support, so I'm not a complete idgit when it comes to troubleshooting... I even tried the troubleshooting that is on my computer here. No help. Actually, the 8220 isn't listen in our computers.
I agree, there should be less bitching in the forums, understandable we are frustrated, but there should also be solutions. This is not a slam against the volunteers cuz I can see you guys are trying... But this many people complaining about the same problem, shouldnt that be a wake-up call for RIM???
So, after trying everything listen in the forums here, what else is there to try??? I am willing to try just about anything...
    Please help

There are some great people on this forum but because the 8220 is a LEMON it cannot be fixed. You would think out of the countless web sites that have 8220 talked about as defective that this offical blackberry site could help. The worst thing is that they still sell these phones every day wthout any warning. We reading this have a computer and internet access. What if someone cannot try the installing OS **bleep** the carriers tell you. How many people cannot call their carrier because their phone don't work. How about an emergency call that needs to be made. RIM looks like it pumps a new model phone out every month, so nice of them!

  • 8230 Pearl Flip Issues

I just activated my 4th Blackberry 8230 Pearl flip phone since last July... And, I am concerned that this trend is going to continue.  According to the most recent Verizon Tech person (at my local store), the 8230 has some design flaws that make it a very sensitive device.
My original phone failed to restart the Bluetooth functions after I had disabled it for a flight.  The first replacement phone, right out of the box, would not make any external sounds (ringer, speaker phone, etc.).  The second replacement phone was difficult to activate (this could have been more of a Verizon issue), but it the day after Christmas, it too stopped making external sounds.  Now, the 3rd replacement phone is up and running -- just activated it yesterday -- and I am wondering how long it will be before it malfunctions.
I have to say that Verizon is honoring their one-year warranty and replacing the phone as needed.  The sales people at the local store have stopped asking me "are you sure you tried...."  I am a fairly tech-savvy person and rarely experience problems of this nature.  I am frustrated at the extra time each replacement phone requires to restore my data and get it up and running.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues?  I cannot believe that I am the only one that has experienced these problems.  I am hoping that RIM is working on improving the 8230.  This is my first smartphone.  I choose it because it is a flip phone.   I will be patient and play their game a little while longer, but at this rate I will have 7 or 8 phones within the first year of my service contract.  How lame is that?

    Thanks for the feedback.
I have not made any headway with my local Verizon store... Their techs are encouraging me to continue to replace the phone on the chance -- emphasis on the word chance -- that I might get lucky and get a good one.  My chances, as I see them, are slim as they are sending remanufactured devices that have already failed.
Verizon will ALLOW me to purchase another model at the FULL RETAIL PRICE, which is a crock.  For now, I am going to play their game and keep replacing defective phones...

  • Pearl Flip 8220

    Hi All,
I just bought a Pearl Flip 8220. Received it two days ago and have been using it as a normal phone while waiting to register with my service provider. This morning for no apparent reason the phone blanked out and all I can get now is the red LED indicator light intermittent with the white background and (wait- loading) clock. I have tried taking the battery out and replacing to reset but to no avail. Any ideas?

Welcme to the cmmunity supprt frums
I would probably have them send me another one. Sounds like you may need to reload the OS.  It is something that can be done but if it is a new phone, I would want a new replacement.
Thats just me....  others will be here to give you direction as well! Glad you are here! Enjoy your stay ... and most of all enjoy that BlackBerry

  • Pearl Flip 8220 - unable to reload OS

    Dear all,
I am using a Pearl Flip 8220 (T-Mobile unlocked version) in INDIA.
Recently I gave the handset for OS reloading as I was getting a 'Call Failed' message frequently. None of the repair shops could resolve the issue & hence I decided to wipe the existing OS (on my own) and reload the latest one by downloading it from BB website for my carrier (Airtel). I wiped the existing OS using BBSAK and tried loading the OS.
But since then I have been facing issues and not able to do it. While trying to load the OS, the handset restarts automatically, for some reason, and the loading ends abruptly. I have observed that this happens while the applicaion tries to load 'net_rim_cldc.cod'.
I would be extremely grateful if somebody has come across the scenario and can help me resolve it. Am not very familiar with the installation, but did go through a few suggestions given by a members on CrackBerry & other forums.

    Hi Sharan,
Try just following the steps here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...
If you still have problems, it may be necessary to reload the JVM on the device as well. To do that, go to the Start button on your computer and in the search box, type "cmd" (without the quotation marks). This will open the DOS command box. Type the following exactly as written below:
    cd c:\program files (x86)\common files\research in motion\apploader\
Press enter (note, if your computer runs a 32-bit version of Windows, do not include the (x86) part, so instead type "cd c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader", minus the quotation marks and press enter).
    Next, type:
    Loader.exe /nojvm
Press enter again. This will now open the Loader file in a way that will also reload the java virtual manager on the device, which should help.
If that still doesn't work, let us know. Good luck!
If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.
If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

  • BB Pearl Flip 8230 occasional red light. Phone will not turn on.

I am at a total loss as to what to do. As the title says, I get that red light coming on at the top of the phone like it is trying to come on, but never does. My phone has given me all kinds of trouble, with freezing, restarting on its own, wrong time and date, even the display on the front being upside down when i close my phone. I have put it on charge, tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and even tried another battery from another bb pearl flip 8230. Is there any hope of should I just take it to my provider?
Oh other things.... i get occasional messages that say app error in really tiny letters and ok below it. I can click it and it will restart. It has just been such a hassle for me..

More on this.  I had Alltel for a service provider.  AT&T took over Alltel in this area.  Alltel then would not even look at it because of this.  I still had a Motorola Razor and put that back into service in the interim (Alltel to AT&T takeover).  When I started using the Razor again I had it shut off and after about an hour it powered itself up.  Didn't think I had done this so I shut it off again.  About an hour went by again at which point the Razor powered itself up again.
I am certain at this point the BB Pearl Flip 8230 has been attacked and infected as I had my email going to it.  I willing to make a good size wager that there is an infection on the phone because as I said the Razor would power up and not shut off.
The phone I have been told can be flashed (reprogrammed) at the expense of losing all the information contained on it.  I see this as the only solution to this point.
Now that AT&T has taken over I am using an HTC Aria.  Not sending any emails from the email account to it either.  Be prepared for whatever smart phone is being used is at risk of being attacked.

  • Is the display on Pearl Flip 8220 sharper that the one on my 8310?

Does anyone know why the display on a Pearl Flip 8220 seems sharper than the one on my 8310?  Is it the 4.6 OS or the actual display?
    Man, I want a 8900......

  • Pearl flip unreliable phone

I'm really disappointed with the blackberry pearl flip. It's completely unreliable and will often cut out mid conversation and say SIM card error. Once it times out it gives me the clock for 20minutes and I can't use the phone.  The worst part is whe I explain this to distributers they know about the problem and say it's very common.
It's my first blackberry and it's given me a really negative view of the product line.
I was thinking about getting a Torch but am sort of against it since my first Blackberry was such a bad experience.

    Hello and welcome!
I am sorry to hear that you're experiencing problems with your BB, but no two phones are ever quite exactly the same, as there are sometimes a few bad apples in a batch; this occurs in manufacturing anything, not just phones.
Also, please keep in mind that these forums are user to user help forums, so we are volunteers helping others with their phones, so the likelihood of someone from RIM reading your post is quite slim, so if your intent was to send a message to RIM, it will not get there through these forums.
Now, for your issue ... have you tried another SIM card in there to see if it is indeed the phone or a SIM card issue. I have had defective SIM cards and SIM cards that were too old to properly work with the newer network technology, so this could be part of the problem you are experiencing. Just a thought!

  • Most durable case style for flip phone (LG Revere)?

    Hi,
I'd like to know what case style provides the best protection for flip phones like the LG Revere (particularly when dropped)? I'm looking for a case that does not need to be removed to use the phone. I'm choosing between the fitted case style like the leather Verizon Wireless fitted case (or Body Glove Soft Fitted Case ) and a rubberized plastic snap-on shield like this one. or if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.
I'd appreciate any advice you may have. thanks

I'm not sure which would be more durable or more protection - one comment I do have is that the fitted case will fit differently when the phone is open.  When I used a case similar on flip phone I had the leather would buckle when the phone was opened (on a call).  The hard case will not have that happen.  The hard case, on the other hand, does not have the belt clip - doesn't look like that's even an option, and if you like to carry it that way, the hard case won't work.
I guess it depends on YOU.  Do you carry it on your belt or in a pocket?  Do you mind if the leather buckles a bit when on a call?

  • Traditional chinese language support for pearl flip 8220?

I just got a pearl flip from T-Mobile.  I'm happy with most features, however, there is no Chinese language support whatsoever.  All the Chinese characters show up as black boxes.  Anyone know of any fixes so that I can read and input Chinese (traditional Chinese)?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your device OS does not support chinese symbols.
Ask your wireless provider for a multi-language device OS that supports chinese characters.
Otherwise - check a chinese wireless provider for device OS. But note that your wireless provider disfavor use of device os from another wireless providers.
If you decide to use OS from another wireless provider - use OS exactly for your device model.
Install OS package on your desktop computer. After that delete Vendor.xml file from installed files on your desktop PC.
Connect your device to the computer and update device OS via Blackberry Desktop Manager/Application Loader.
