8220 Pearl Smart? Phone Major Device Issue

Ok, my turn... Here's my request for assistance then...
Blackberry 8220 Pearl Flip. Y'all know the story... the (expletitive of your choice) thing keeps shutting off then takes it's sweet time turning back on. Does this in the middle of calls, in the middle of sending text, in the middle of doing it's most useful job - as a paperweight.
It even does this if I shut off cell myself... A few minutes later I will look over and see it going through that startup sequence that takes about 5 minutes.
I have tried EVERYTHING on this forum. I spent about 6 hours reading and trying everything. Updated software - made it reset more often. Tried the business card between battery and cover, no help. Tried wiping the phone, no help. Tried leaving memory card out, no help. Thought of throwing it out of my truck at 80 mph, *probably* wouldnt help. Tried everything. No help no help no help.
HELP!!!
Auto on/off is disabled
Software update seems to be default answer on here... Kinda like Pilot Error anytime there's a plane-crash.
Battery drains completely in about 5 hours from resetting so much. Tried new battery. Drains just as quick.
Tried new SIM - no help
I realize this forum is staffed by volunteers - big surprise to me I must admit... But what can be done? Obviously by now, RIM must be aware of this problem... If they were into any kind of customer service, they'd offer a solution by now - replacement? Cheaper upgrade to phone that actually works? SOME kind of exchange or recall program?
I got my 8220 as a gift, so no receipts... Does this mean I'm screwed?
Provider is Rogers Canada and they are pretty much as useless as my 8220 right now, so please dont suggest going to provider - I have done that too. All they suggest is update software even when you tell them you just did 30 minutes previously. Plus, Rogers employees are definitely not the smartest peanut in the third. Paraphrasing here
I work for AT&T Customer Care and Tech Support, so I'm not a complete idgit when it comes to troubleshooting... I even tried the troubleshooting that is on my computer here. No help. Actually, the 8220 isn't listen in our computers.
I agree, there should be less bitching in the forums, understandable we are frustrated, but there should also be solutions. This is not a slam against the volunteers cuz I can see you guys are trying... But this many people complaining about the same problem, shouldnt that be a wake-up call for RIM???
So, after trying everything listen in the forums here, what else is there to try??? I am willing to try just about anything...

There are some great people on this forum but because the 8220 is a LEMON it cannot be fixed. You would think out of the countless web sites that have 8220 talked about as defective that this offical blackberry site could help. The worst thing is that they still sell these phones every day wthout any warning. We reading this have a computer and internet access. What if someone cannot try the installing OS **bleep** the carriers tell you. How many people cannot call their carrier because their phone don't work. How about an emergency call that needs to be made. RIM looks like it pumps a new model phone out every month, so nice of them!

After a Windows 8.1 automatic update yesterday my other wireless devices like smart phones, tablets, etc can't use my routers wireless signal unless my laptop is turned on

Hi guys, please help, I'm desperate.
After an automatic update to my windows 8.1 yesterday none of my other other wireless devices like smart phones, tablets, etc. can join my wireless network unless my laptop is turned on. If I turn my laptop off, after a couple of minutes my iphone,
my wife's iphone and my Galaxy Tab lose connection and are unable to join my router's network. When I turn my laptop back on, all the other devices are able to use my router's wireless internet without any problems. How can I fix this???

Hi,
First, I suggest to reset the router, meanwhile disable the network card and enable it again, because it is obviously network issue.
Then, as you post this happened after windows update, try to find the update that was already installed on your computer
Restore your computer by following the way listed below:

Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. If defective, you'll get a replacement.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
Network section.
In Network - click on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
either these, from google dns
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
or from OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

Smart Device but not a Smart Phone

Very sad to report after only a few months of owning my Q10 it is going back for a second internal (headset) speaker replacement.
With the upgrades to the OS being so promising it's awful this phone will be getting replaced if it happens again.
No idea how to speak to someone at Blackberry to explain what business people expect when they purchase a smart PHONE!
Anyone know how to get ahold of Blackberry so I can recommend they find another speaker manufacturer ASAP?

There are always going to be defects in any manufacturing process, if there really was a problem endemic to the phone then you could bet BlackBerry would already be aware of it.
You've posted here and while it is a peer-to-peer forum, occasionally BlackBerry employees will read the postings so you've done about as much as you can to bring it to their attention.
You could if you really want ask your service provider to escalate the issue.

Premiere Elements12 Audio sync issue with Moto X Smart Phone 1080i video

I shot some hi-def video with my Moto X Smart Phone but with the phone rotated to the portrait profile. The video plays normal and keeps that profile in Win Movie Maker and the other Win 8.1 video players.
When i opened the video in PRE-EL12 the video is landscape??? and audio out of sync. Any ideas?
I will run some tests tomorrow to see if it is only portrait shot video that has synch problems. If that's the case, I will post it here!

Set up your Premiere Elements 12 project....
1. Open program to the Expert workspace and go immediately to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings. In Change Settings, change the project preset to
NTSC
AVCHD
AVCHD 1080p60
Before you leave that area, in the last dialog there (new project dialog), make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting On This Project".
2. Then back in the Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders to get your video into Project Assets. And, from Project Assets, drag the video to the Timeline. Do you see an orange line over the Timeline content? If so, press the Render button. That will get you the best possible preview. You will know that the render is done when the orange line turns green.
3. Now, when you press the Play button of the Edit area monitor or hit the spacebar, is the audio out of sync in the playback? If so, on we go to HandBrake.

How can we do a complete contacts transfer from Z 30 via bluetooth on smart phone ????

Issues :
My device both wifi and mobile network stopped working – hardware issue as per the engineer, so I have to give this for repair but as per company policy have to wipe.
So I am taking a full backup via BB Link but contacts are missing, tried to sync from my device to Outlook via offline again the same — missing !!!!
I got an option via bluetooth but it’s allowing me do one by one, as I have 2314 contacts.
Before on old blackberry we can transfer complete contacts to a smart phone or blackberry, please let me know how can we do a complete contacts transfer via bluetooth ????

IPhones and other smart phones being Excluded

Has anyone seen an issue with iPhones and other smart phones being considered as excluded clients for the reason of Identity Theft? I am looking at one of my controllers and there are almost 680 excluded clients and most of them are smart phones and they are all being excluded for the same reason. It seems to be mostly iPhones but not all of the iPhones are experiencing the same behavior.
There is a mix of AP types (AP1010s, 1131s and 3502s) and also a mix of controller types (44XX and 3508). I have not been able to find any information to explain this behavior on the phone side and/or the wireless side.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

These devices are supposed to be allowed to connect to our network. The issue we are seeing is.....
We have multiple WLANs, 2 secured and 1 open. Ideally the phones would be able to connect to all of them but they should only be connecting to the secured networks for work purposes. The only difference between the 2 secured networks is that one is only available on the B/G band and the other is on the A band. What I am seeing is that the excluded clients are only showing up as being excluded on the open network but when they get into this state they are not able to connect to the secured networks as well.
After further investigation it seems that they are all iPhones and from what I can tell they are all running IOS 5. Our company does provide iPhones for some employees but there is a base build that is required and none of the company provided phones are having a problem, even the one running IOS 5. All of the phones with issues are personally owned phones so i cannot speak to their configuration.
Thank you for our response as I am baffled.... I have been working with wireless for many years and this is confusing me.

Email account problem 8220 pearl flip

Don't know if anyone can help. I recently bought 8220 pearl flip, but can't register my email account!. On the device when I get to the email setup page, it comes up with "Select an email setup option, but it only gives me one option, "Iwant to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server". There are no other choices. I don't want to do this, I just want my personal account on it.
How do I get to do this? It was simple on my Sony ericcson....

To use the proprietary RIM Push email capability, you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), you will then have Personal Email added to the email setup wizard.

Smart phone questions...

I'm considering upgrading from my current flip phone to a smart phone. It's been almost a year now since I've switched to mac and love it. I bought an iPad earlier this year and love that too. If I get a smart phone, it will be an iPhone 5S. My questions are about how data plans work with features of the phone. My plan would have unlimited minutes, so using the phone or texting wouldn't be an issue. I currently don't text, but will most likely do some as it would be free. I like the idea of having a device where I can check email, take pictures, etc., however I don't plan to do web browsing unless I'm using wifi or for an emergency. The reason for this is that if I upgrade, I'm going to get the basic 250 mb data plan. So here are some of my questions/concerns:
1) Is there anything that will consume data from the 250 mb plan besides the things that I would typically do, email, etc?
2) Does watching youtube videos or browsing the web while on wifi have any effect on data usage?
2) Does taking pictures and storing them on the phone have any effect on data usage?
3) I have Verizon, do they offer a way to tell where you are at with data usage? I'm assuming that they might have an app, but if they did, that would pull from your data, no?
I don't think I'll ever exceed the 250 mb from just checking a few emails each day but figured I'd ask others who have experience with these devices/plans. Thanks.

1. It depends. If you have automatically push/fetch settings on emails and iCloud backup, it can drain data. If you download apps or load videos while forgetting to turn off data and use wifi, that could be another mistake.
2. It doesn't have any effect on data usage as long as you turn OFF cellular data and use wifi ONLY! If you have data and wifi on, data will be used from both simultaneously.
3. Taking pics and storing pictures on your phone doesn't use data but if iCloud backup is on for backing up yur photos can drain data.
4. They do have an app to check your usage on their mobile app.
250mb data is awfully small compare to my T-mobile plan I have unlimited data and I used about 6GB data download app, videos and such but you should just see how much you use for the first month and decide to bump up your plan if you need to.

N73 could be agood smart phone and people will fee...

I am using N73 Music addition and i have updated my phone with SW version 4.0839.42.0.1 but still I feel some improvements are still needed and it will be very good for all N73 users.
It could a very good smart phone.
Purpose of this post is to improve the N73 features and performance.
1. N73 is good mobile but it is not having good features in alarm clock like it should work for every day of week after selecting in the options and also mulitiple alarm could be able set.
2. The second major thing which every N73 user is facing that it's Fonts size of numbers is very small in Contact List.
3. When phone is in OFFLINE mode radio is not working. it could be a good idea to allow radio in offline mode also as it does not has any dependency on network like music player.
4. Once mailbox settings are done it will not allow to delete complete mails from INBOX and settings also without performing format operation.
5. When opening any application or menu it takes little bit delay.
Hope Nokia development team can improve many things if can suggest improvements.

Your phone can handle the stuff ok what it is originally made for.
Does it even support 3G?
Anyhow, alarm applications must be in overflood for this modell in Nokia Store and I would look up for a applications that can wipe your RAM memory from time to time as the memory certainely will make it slow. Suck as messages, emails and contacts are stored will gradually make this model slow. And the processor...no graphic power...
Check if you can use netqin.com app.
Apps for font managing maybe also can be found in Nokia Store?
I suppose you have done all you can, but thinking of Nokia supporting this phone with more updates... well, the phone is old and time have really out phased this one.
But for people who want their phone calls to never drop and casually send sms, the phone is even better still today than even more expensive brands...just take a look at the fruit phones problems handling the basic things...

What is the difference between Applecare and Bell's smart/phone care?

Since I bought my last Iphone (including Applecare) it seems Bell has come up with a Smart/Phone care plan. Can anyone tell me the advantges of one versus the other? Picking up new Iphone Friday and I would like to go in informed.

the biggest difference is probably that Applecare is an extension of hardware coverage, Bell's Plan also provides options to be covered for liquid or accidental damage.

A big advantage for AppleCare or AppleCare+, is the extra technical phone support that comes with it from experts, which means you can call them everyday for all your technical issues with the device, instead of having to pay an 'incident-fee' for each phonecall

MacBook Won't Stay Connected to Smart Phone WiFi

Mac OS X version 10.7.5 running on 2 year old macbook pro 2 GHz Intel i7 8 GB memory.
This has been a consistent problem ever since I've owned this MacBook...just that I'm online trying to pay bills tonight and do some business and have had to reconnect every 2 minutes and it's driving me slightly insane.
So here's the deal. On my Verizon smart phones (used to be a Droid, now is a Windows HTC...the phone doesn't seem to matter) I've got the mobile hot spot. I turn it on, it shares the phone's internet connection over a wifi signal. I turn on the sharing on the phone, wait for it to appear in the wifi connection dialog on my mac and then connect. It takes a second and then I'm connected. I go to my favorite banking site, enter my username and password, wait and wait, then look up at the toolbar and notice that I'm not connected wifi anymore. I reconnect to the phone, refresh the website, enter my name and password, login, then start to pay bills and it starts hanging again. I look up at the toolbar, I'm not connected again. I reconnect again, am able to continue working online for a couple of minutes and then it disconnects again. It will do this sometimes two or three times, sometimes five or six times. Eventually it stops disconnecting and I am able to continue working normally for as long as I like.
Now, the mac does not have this problem with any other wifi. If I'm at home connected to my home network, it connects just fine. Starbucks...connects just fine.
Also, none of my other devices have any problem connecting to the phone. My Nexus 7 tablet connects to the phone just fine. My other laptop connects to the phone just fine and there's none of this constant disconnecting.
And right now as I'm looking up at the toolbar I see it's disconnected again.
Why does my MacBook Pro keep disconnecting from my phone's hot spot? How can I diagnose and hopefully fix this problem?

I'm having this issue, as well. I have 2 MacBooks and they both lose WiFi after waking-up from sleep. Ever since Lion came to town, this has taken a poop in the connectivity bed.
I state a preferred network, yet after waking up it is no longer connected or grabs some random network. I've tried to tell it only preferred, but it keeps doing its own thing.
VERY ANNOYING.... especially when they fixed the iMac for the issue I am describing. Ughhh.
