8310 Camera

Whenever I try and start the camera app, I get "Could not start the camera. Close other applications . . ."  I have no other apps running.  Anybody know why?

I didn't heard of any such thing. Have you checked after restarting your device? You can check what apps are currently running by pressing Alt button and escape key.

This seems to usually be a hardware issue.  It hasn't happened to me but the fix, I've been told (if it works,) is to remove the battery cover and press down around the camera lens to help it make contact.  If it continues, I'd seek a warranty replacement.

  • My Blackberry camera will no longer zoom!

I have had my blackberry for a month now, and really have not played with it, i.e. delved deep into what it can really do.  I have taken a few pictures and was able to use the zoom feature.  Last week, I tried to use the camera and the zoom feature and the camera will not zoom any further than 1x.  I have not changed any settings that might affect the camera!!!
Help!  Anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue.  The trackball and the volume buttons both fail to work.

  • Battery Icon with Red Line on BB 8310

So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?  Is it a problem with the battery? Or is it a problemwith the phone?  IS there any fix?
Mine came brand new in a box a few daysago. It came with a blue battery (C-S2). As soon as I put the battery into thephone, the dreaded Icon (battery with a red line through it) showed up.  I charged it, thinking that means the batteryis empty and left it charging for over 5 hours, hoping the Icon will go away.It never did, and now 4 days later and an infinite number of battery pulls, some with a twist or two, it is still there. If it was any otherpiece of technology I would dismiss it as junk. But, oh, this is the famous BB.
Instead, I did some research, have spentupwards of 15 hours over the last 4 days, trying to figure it out. I ran intolots of things on the Net, including the crackberry postings with people sayingthat they got rid of the problem by dropping (!!) the BB from 3-4 feet, sometimes repeatedly, until it fixed itself. Others report the problem aftersome time of use (flaky construction?). On this forum alone there are at least4 recent postings with the identical problem (search for “8310 battery line”and find the post of “Spyridonas” 12-13-08, of “black_black_b” 06-10-09, of  “hades” 09-27-09 and of “Alien_X” 09-28-09.  None of those seems to have got the attentionof anyone from RIM, and nobody offered any meaningful solution.  As people have reported time and again, it isvery unlikely to be the problem with the battery, so we are left to conclude thatthe phones are lemons.
We spend lots of money for a useless pieceof junk and nobody at RIM cares. If this was a car, it would have been recalled a long time ago. I will get my money back and buy somethingelse, maybe a Nokia or even a Moto. Watch out RIM, you are pissing off a lot ofpeople, and some of them are the wrong people to piss off.

I think you did. You pointed out each instance you could find when this fix did not work. You failed to point out the dozens of times this fix did work.
So, to answer your initial post questions:
So, how pervasive is the problem of theBlackberry 8310 and its icon with the red line across from it?
Not very pervasive. It certainly is not one of the top ten problems judging from the questions I see asked here and elsewhere.
Is it a problem with the battery?
Could be. Have you tried a brand new battery (I forget if you said).
Or is it a problemwith the phone?
Again, could be. There could be an issue with your battery contacts on the device.
    IS there any fix?
For most, yes. We've been over that.
Try cleaning the contacts on the device. See if that helps. Try a new battery... and often new batteries are very low or close to dead upon purchase so follow the directions above to charge and bootup.

I had already seen this bit of lame “advice”  that has been circulating on BB boards and hadtried it several times,
Oh, thank you so much. You know, you get what you give. Your initial post above did not state what you had tried several times. We don't read minds, well, I don't at least.
    Alien_X wrote:
Anytime you buy a brand new item and it fails to work after 4 days of trying anything you can find I”d say you got a lemon.
You've had it four days, brand new, and you haven't returned it for a new device? That would be my first suggestion had you stated that first off. I would not keep that device if first off it didn't work. But a lemon? Nah, it's not a pervasive problem inherent to the model, which is what a lemon is normally defined as.

  • Curve 8310 fails to read microSD card

    Greetings,
I bought a Blackberry Curve 8310 last summer and it worked fine until November of last year when the phone failed to read my Micro SD media card. Thinking the media card was the problem, I have bought a new media card a few months ago to try fixing the problem. The problem still persists and I need help getting this fixed.
I currently use Blackberry 4.5 Device OS. Under Options in the phone's menu:
    Media card support: on
    Encryption mode: none
    Mass storage mode support: on
Auto enable MSM when connected: Yes
    Total space: 1.8 GB
    Free Space: 1.4 GB.
This means the phone knows I have a media card but just cannot read it. For pictures, only the pictures I saved onto the microSD card using my computer can be seen, but pictures I took using the phone doesn't show up. When taking pictures, the camera indicates "File system out of resources". For music, all the music is visible, but when trying to play the songs, it doesn't do anything.
I have tried everything from turning off/on the phone, removing the battery to do a hard reset, not downloading any applications to see if they were the cause, and formatting the media card for blackberry use. I have even reformatted the phone 5 to 6 times and installed a clean new OS onto the phone and the problem is still there. The only short-term solution I found in fixing this problem is when using the Desktop Manager to backup my data on the phone. After backing up the data, the phone will recognize my media card and I can access it fine for about 2 to 3 days. Then the phone fails again and I have to keep backing up my data to get my phone to work. Now I am very tired of repeating this process. Either I get a long-term solution or I need a new phone (I believe I still have warrenty).
The phone is great but this problem is getting on my nerves. Someone please help me!

  • In need of camera help

Hello everyone. I just got a Rogers BlackBerry Curve 8310 used from friend. Other then having a crack in the screen ( which I intend to get fixed ) it had no problems and ran smoothly. A couple days ago I tried to open my camera and a message came up saying `` Could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again``. I had used the camera for a couple days with no problems before this happened. I did a bit of research online to see if anyone else had had this problem and apparently its fairly common but none of the solutions I read worked. I tried the battery pull out, I tried wiping the phone. I deleted all of the apps I didn't need. All though I know how to delete apps and such I am not quite sure I am exiting the ones I have properly. The only solution I read that I have not yet tried is taking apart the phone and pushing the camera lense back into place because I would rather not mess with it if it is not necessary.  I suppose being new at this it could be any little thing I am doing wrong that caused this problem.
Since I am new at this and I am just learning as I go, if I didn't give enough info about the problem or maybe wasn't clear feel free to ask for details if you think you know what to do because I need help very much.
I apologize if this was a dumb question or if I posted this in the wrong spot.
    Thanks for reading my post

You don't even need to take the device apart.  Just remove the battery cover and press downward on the camera lens.  This is the fix that most people have said has been successful when this problem occurs.

You didn't state what model curve you have (8300, 8310, 8320, 8350, 8520?), but download from your carrier same OS that is on your device now (Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx") and install that OS to your PC.
Then, run Desktop Manager > Application Loader, and check the box for the Task app.

  • Camera Zoom Function No Longer Works

Model 8310. This function worked for the first few times I used the camera (via trackball and upper right side buttons), but no longer works. Is there something disabled that I need to enable? Manual no help. Thanks.

    Hello,
I think you can try two things : the soft reboot, and if it does not work, the hard reboot. Don't worry, you can't lose data with these two reboots.
    Soft reboot :
    1) Hit the three following keys at the same time :
    - Alt
    - Left Shift
    - Delete
    2) wait 2 minutes for the Blackberry to wake up.
    Hard reboot :
    1) your Blackberry device is on
    2) remove the battery and wait for a minute
    3) Put the battery back
    4) wait 5 minutes for the device to wake up.
Please tell us if it works for you.

  • My Blackberry Curve 8310 has no video recorder on it

I there a way to upgrade my phone so I can have a capable video recorder to record videos?

That's odd... I have AT&T and a Curve 8310; it has both a video and audio recorder built into it.  I could not access my video recorder until I bought and inserted a microSD card into the Curve.  The video camera's recordings take up a lot of memory compared to the camera, and if you don't have a memory card installed, this could be your problem.
If you do have a memory card with space on it, it's possible that the video recorder icon was accidentally hidden from view on the Home screen.  While in the Home screen, press the Menu button (to the left of the trackball) and make sure "Show All" is checked.  This will show you all icons, even the hidden ones; see if you can find the video camera icon among your list of icons.
FYI - You can also access the video recorder through the "Camera" icon.  Click on the Camera icon, then once the screen switches to camera viewfinder, click on the Menu button (left of the trackball) and select "Video camera."  This will then give you recording access to the video feature if your device has memory.

The Escape key is the key immediately to the right of the track ball. Looks like a curved arrow.
Also, the latest operating systems for the 8300 series of phones are:
    8300: 4.2.2.194
    8310: 4.2.2.194

After installing new firmware version 400.21.013 some new bugs appeared. When I'm using camera sometimes picture has large pixels and it isn't bright. Also from time to time some white lines appear on the screen. They are not grid lines that you can turn on and off. I've tried to take a picture of them but it's fuzzy. Those lines on the picture are thin. Beside them some thick white line also appeared but I couldn't capture that moment

I think it is a software problem with to many applications open.
It also happens if the screen lock kicks in and I press a button to re activate.
Only once has my phone "frozen" and then I had to take the battery out.
