8320 won't boot up, even with known good battery

Hi Guys, my first post, hope you can help me.
I've got an 8320 which died last night, initially suspected a dead battery so have changed it this morning for one that is known to be good, as its from my other phone where it shows fully charged.
With the known good battery in the suspected faulty phone I get a bettery symbol with a red line through it.
Is it worth trying to reinstall the software or is it a hardware issue ?
If its worth doing the software how do I go about it ?
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

  • 13" white Macbook will not power on with known good battery

Macbook will not attempt to power on with a known good battery that shows full charge.  Also, when Magsafe plugged in, there is no indication (no green or amber light) it is connected.  This charger does work with another Macbook (same kind).
I have checked the Magsafe/port for any dust & debris, and have followed the tips listed in the FAQ's for a macbook with no power.  As I said, the battery & charger both work in another Macbook.
    Suggestions please!

Hi Stephanie. It could be a logic board issue or simply the power button at this point (let's hope its the latter). Can you give us more info on how this happened? Did the computer suddenly shut down or was it stored and unused for quite some time?
Without any power, and with you making sure both the battery and and charger is working, then I would suggest bringing it in to the Apple Store.

I took out the battery and stuck it back in again, but it still won't turn on! The last sign of life was when there was a greyish screen, but I took the battery back out and it won't turn on again. Help! I'm scared I fried my phone somehow and I've only had it for a month!

My Ipad will shut off after 3 to 4 minutes even with a full battery and whether it is being used or not. then it will power up again on its own. This also occurs when the charger is connected and when I have it connected to my computer.

  • HELP - My new Nokia Lumia 620 won't boot up, even ...

I'm worried my Nokia Lumia 620 is a lemon, and the Care Centre will just keep taking it in for repair.  The reliability so far has been disappointing, especially as I was giving Nokia a try after a 10 year break, and also trying out Windows Mobile / Phone after a 6 year break.  I want to recommend it - I'm continually being asked by friends and colleagues what I think of my new phone.   Nokia will be smart to just replace it.
The details: my Nokia Lumia 620 won't boot up today (again).  It hung on boot  this morning with the Nokia Logo.  That was over 2 hours ago.  It had this problem during February, and I returned it twice for repair to the local Nokia Care Centre.  I guess I'll take it in again later today, but it just feels like a lemon handset so far.
    Timeline:
Handset purchased in local Nokia Store on Jan 29 2013 ( 7 weeks ago)
Handset gave "Exclamation-Mark-Screen-of-Death" on Feb 19 2013 (3 weeks old handset)
Local Nokia Store sent me to local Nokia Care Centre, handed in overnight "for repair"
Phone returned on Feb-20-2013 after software refresh.
Worked fine for 1 week.   Problem returned Feb 26 2013. (4 week old handset)
Nokia Care Centre "replaced motherboard" on Feb 27 2013.
Has worked fine for 3 weeks.   Now Lumia 620 won't boot this morning - no Exclamation Mark, instead it's the Nokia Logo on boot.
The handset is 7 weeks old.
Hard reset (side-button-combination) hasn't worked either.
Any advice on getting this working, repaired or replaced?

Update on the repair - it didn't work.   I returned the phone to the Yau Ma Tei Nokia Care Centre on March 20th, and was given what was termed a 'replacement' phone.   I was pretty happy.  All was well.  But two days later when I tried to make a phone call using my headphones, I noticed that only the left audio channel was working through the earphones.   I tried a second pair of earphones and the same problem.    The audio was only working through the left channel.  On a new phone.  How strange.
So was it really new?   My suspicion is that the repair centre has used old returned parts (parts they perhaps term as refurbished) - so in fact my replacement phone is my old phone assembled with old and refurbished parts.   Was it in fact a refurbished phone assembled from refurbished parts?   Frustrating when they tell me it's a replacement phone.
That was back in late March.  I posted a couple of tweets and Nokia responded.  They even phoned me to try and help.  However no offer of a new phone.  All they suggested was that I revisit the Nokia Service Centre.   For a 4th time.
That was about 6 weeks ago, and I simply haven't made the time to go to the Service Centre again.   It's hard to find the time when my last 3 visits have been so unsuccessful.
Sometimes you just get a lemon.   It happened to me once before with a different manufacturer when I was on a contract and had to live with a phone for 2 years that kept cutting out during calls.   Same problem - the manufacturer attempted to repair it, but it just never worked properly.   That was 10 years ago.  Now it's happening with my new Nokia.  Luckily I'm not on contract this time.  I've read good reviews for the Lumia 620, and overall it's a pretty decent handset in every other way.
But the issues this particular handset has been plagued with has overshadowed any positive feelings I have been having.   I'll probably be cutting my losses and changing handsets in the summer.

  • Lion won't boot (difficult upgrade with relocated home folder)

i seem to be having a very difficult upgrade and am hoping for some more help.
i have a 2006 mac pro with LION on the drive in bay 1, a partition of windows 7 on drive 1 and my HOME FOLDER on the drive in bay 3. i also have a drive in disk 2 which contains a CLONE of the OS on drive disk 3 started reporting a need to Repair when running DU - and this Repair ran into complications - so i just decided to upgrade to a new 2012 computer and move along.
right now i have all my data and yosemite on the new 2012.
/however/ my TIME MACHINE drive will not mount on the new computer and even when i try to force it to mound (right click on the drive in DU) it will not mount and asks if i want to initialize it.
so i tried to boot into the 2006 computer with LION in order to see if i can get the TIME MACHINE drive to mount and no i enter my password and now this computer won't boot and i am getting a cannot boot error of some kind (this happens after i enter my password). i have /also/ tried this with my external CLONE of the OS drive in bay 1 and i also get this error.
    so here are my questions:
    1. i moved some data around on the HOME FOLDER disk in drive 3 and i am wondering if possibly this is the issue. also, this drive was reporting as needing repair and has still not been repaired. can i remove this disk, put it in the new computer, REFORMAT it and then CLONE my external backup of this drive back to this drive - and then place it back in the old machine and see if this works?
    2. can i take the drive in bay 2 that has the CLONE of my OS drive in bay 1 and put it in bay 1 and try and boot into LION off this drive?
i would like to keep LION running in part because i have a couple of boot camp installations (one i would like to migrate over to the new machine) but also because i want to see if i can still have access to the Time Machine backup.
thanks for any help as i'd like to get unstuck a bit here.

All the various boot key combinatiuons should be pressed immediately after your hear the boot chime.

  • Macbook Pro won't wake up even with power adapter connected

If I use my Macbook to the point where the battery completely die, it will not power up again even with the power adapter connected. It takes about 15-20 minutes of charging before it will wake up again. It seems as though it can't draw power directly from the adaptor, but must wait until the battery is sufficiently charged, and draw power from the battery. I can't imagine this is a design decision. Any help?

Part of this time may involve attempting to read a damaged sleep image file, bewlatbrutha.
You should note, too that the batteries in these computers have a built in microprocessor of their own to try to prevent them from being damaged by discharging too deeply. If you discharge to the point where even the battery's own processor has to shut down you may never be able to resurrect your battery without outside help (and sometimes not even then). Almost all Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries (regardless of what they are fitted to) have this sort of protection. The battery has to have a certain minimum charge at all time to keep its own processor running.
Even without reaching this point it is not good for Lithium batteries to be regularly discharged to the point where the computer has to sleep or shut down. You risk severely shortened battery life if you do this regularly.

  • Powerbook G4 Dies when unplug AC Adapter Even with fully charged battery

Powerbook G4 dies when running and unplug AC adapter even though have new battery and shows fully 100% charged. Also when shutdown, won't fully start without AC adapter being plugged in. When in sleep mode then can unplug power adapter and be able to wake and run on battery. Have tried resetting power management unit with no success

Hi, Alan, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Some questions for you:
What does System Profiler have to say about your fully-charged new battery's full charge capacity and current capacity?
Have you tested your internal backup battery?
How long can you ordinarily run the Powerbook on a full battery charge, if you unplug the adapter while it's sleeping?
Have you tested the Powerbook using a different, known-good AC adapter to see whether that makes any difference in the PB's behavior when you unplug it?
Is your adapter's plug deformed in any way?
Is the DC-In port on the Powerbook wobbly, i.e. does it move noticeably if you gently push sideways or up and down on the adapter plug when it's connected to the port?

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 "Wrong CLI Credentials" error with known good credentials

In the device work center sometimes devices show up with "wrong CLI credentials". Even when I change to known good SSH credentials and click the update & sync button the error does not go away.
Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know a workaround?
It seems absurd that you would not be able to edit the SSH credentials of devices.

ok, tried all that was said here. Nothing worked ... I do have banners, but no # sign ... removed them anyways ... then thinking about the banners might be causing issues for what PI expects ... (i do have my prompts changed to mask the platform) ... so i defaulted back to regular prompts ... WORKED !!!!
So here is what works for me ... no banners, no custom prompts AND device added through the 'classic theme'.
I presume the expectation is that the device begins with minimal config ... the rest is pushed through the config templates deployment. But have the developers thought of existing devices ? is it IOS version related (target device) or simply a bug.
    BTW, PI v2.1
Edit --- needing to clarify, for some models (namely UC520) ... removed banner, custom prompts and i could add it comfortably through the Lifecycle interface.
Others (3550), could be inserted easily with banners and custom prompts ... rather inconsistent, though at least , i have working recipes.
Thanks for the help all :)

So your not a student or alumni?
It is that Kerberos for SMTP that gets me. That requires a token server to be .
Try the It people with how to you connect your computer to the issuing trust tokens
So I think the answer is ask the IT people how you connect your computer to the Kerberos/GSSAPI realm so the SMTP can authenticate. I have a feeling there is a [https://www.rit.edu/its/services/vpn VPN ]in your future, but we will see.

  • Powerbook takes 5 or 6 attempts to power up even with AC only (battery out)

Hey folks- I have read up on this extensively but wonder if the info is more uptodate now (as I have been reading about this from about October last year!) and if anyone can get their head around this.
Powerbook G4 1.5GHz with 1GB RAM Aluminum 15" with the replacement (recall replacement) battery from a year and a half ago.
Powerbook was out of action for about a month (I got a replacement MacBook Pro) and was put back into action about Christmas.
Then it took a charge of half an hour before it would start up. So a drained battery was bad news as it took a long time on AC to even allow a start up.
Worked fine since then with pretty much weekly use, mostly on AC but also using the battery which performed reasonably despite high use of bluetooth and internet. A couple of times a long "recharge" had to be performed to start it up again if it had gone to sleep on low battery.
Today it also behaved as though it was going to do what it normally does and take a while on charge before it will start up. Started up pretty much immediately though. Worked fine until the lid was shut, the laptop was unplugged and then it was replugged and lid was opened. Dead. Totally. No amber light beyond about a minute or so.
End result was that I attempted to charge it this morning, watched the light go amber and it only went to green after 10 minutes or more. No start up possible.
I removed the battery and tried to start it and hey presto- it worked.
Works fine if started with no battery installed.
Or so I thought- I even managed to replace the battery and see that it has had a good number of cycles (263) and is definitely not charging.
So- I realise that it is probably a dead battery, right? Possibly because it is anyway worn out and maybe also because the Powerbook has recently been updated to Leopard (June time). So, to win some time and to be able to restart the computer when we unplug it I thought we'd at least do the PMU and PRAM etc resets...
Shut down the computer, pressed the various keys for the PRAM reset and got the digital beep.
Tried to restart the computer with the PRAM combo and nothing.
Dead. COMPLETELY. Now wouldn't start up even with the battery removed!! Unhooked battery a couple of times, replugged charger and nothing. Left it for a time in case the battery was charging on the amber light (maybe that first reset had done enough?) and still nothing.
    Fiddled and used bad language.
Turned the Powerbook over and pressed the battery button a couple of times. Interestingly it flashes on the first light when pressed (but doesn't cycle as it ought to if charging).
Powerbook started up with battery in and AC connected.
    I no longer understand ANYTHING.
First it wouldn't start up, then only with battery removed, then not at all, then only with battery in place...
    Help, I am going mad.
Please? Oh- and since I believe I am having to buy a new battery, where? Apple don't seem to have any but am I wrong? Generic or Apple? What is the consensus? OR have we got a bigger problem?! IO board?! Oh NOOOOOO!

Oh you CLEVER person you! You know I plum-forgot to mention that on it finally/occasionally starting up it has to always have the time/date reset and also the passcode for the wireless internet re-entered.
Which I KNOW is a defective PRAM battery from the ancient Wallstreet which had one go on it with similar results (of course it was not also wireless) but assumed that it might have been a board go as a result of the aging battery.
So- took it to our local Apple repairer and they would like to charge me £55 for the estimate and THEN for labour and parts as well! Used to be that we were looking at the estimate/check up being offset against the resulting pair (basically- they had the thing open and diagnosing the fault is part of a repair. Just if you chose NOT to go through with a repair you'd be charged for an estimate)...
Was told it was either the logic board or the powerboard. Suspect though that the battery option is one which needs investigating FIRST and will power the laptop non-stop for 24 or so hours minus battery to see if that is enough to spark a start up.
They did try another battery, no go. Tried another powerlead- no difference.
COULD be that the defective PRAM battery has caused wider defects and that we are looking at replacing a few things but cheaper options first as spending over £200 is not going to make this machine very worth it as it is ancient and might not last all THAT much longer.

  • Nomad MuVo will not power on even with a new battery. USB works fine, just No Green

It was working fine. I didn't use it for a couple of weeks and thought the battery was dead. But it will not even come on with a new battery. Any suggestions?

Since it connects properly to the pc, I suggest loading the latest firmware into it.

Make sure that is the correct firmware for your exact Muvo model. If not, then choose the proper one.
