8330 limited to .3gp and .mp4 for video

It seems to be a well kept secret that the BlackBerry Curve 8330 only supports video formats .3gp and .mp4 Simple Profile (SP). There have been many forum queries on this subject. In many cases the person asking has the 8330 and wants to work with .avi files. The responders often assume .avi will work (since it does with all other Curves) and ends up pointing them down a dead end street. I also notice that most of the forum queries never finish with a resolution.
This limitation puts a real damper on my ability to capture video with the 8330 Curve Video Camera and send it to friends and family. Many of whom are novices at computers. Requiring them to figure out how to watch a .3gp file is just wrong. .3gp is the only format in which the Curve Video Camera captures, so when you email it, that is what they get.
Also, many of the recommended programs such as BlackBerry Video Converter do not work since the output produces .avi files. So far, I have struck out completely putting any format of video on the 8330 with BlackBerry Desktop Manager and actually getting it to work.
I know VLC and Quicktime will play captured 8330 videos (.3gp format). But how many novice computer users have VLC or Quicktime? And why should they be required to obtain them when Windows comes with Windows Media Player?
Can someone explain why the 8330 only supports .3gp and mp4 (limited to mpeg-4 SP (Simple Profile)) when the other Curves (8300, 8310, 8320, 8350i) all support .mp4, m4a, .mov, .3gp, .avi, and .wmv?

It plays wmv audio, and mp4 format is just a container. Different mp4 videos may have differing audio and video stream configurations, some may play, some may not.
As for the MP3, did you perform a hard reset on your device?

Is it possible to transcode a given video format to 3gp or mp4 format in java,preferably using jmf.

There is more to a video file then it's extension, lots of codecs out there. I'd like to see native support for more codecs but until that happened. Use a program to convert the videos to MP4.
A great program to do this is which also happens to be free and one of the best programs for conversion is HandBrake. Some advantages, videos play amazing when converted to the native format. If you want you can also scale the video to match the resolution of the phone (800x480) which will produce smaller file allowing you to store more videos on your phone.

What is the difference between mp4 for iphone and mp4 for ipod ?

I have converted some videos to mp4 and there is a choice to convert to iphone or ipod.
But what is the difference between them ?
It cant just be something simple like screen size / resolution.
Because I have some mp4 videos that will sync with itunes onto my iphone, but not onto my ipod 5th gen.
Do you have to have both types of mp4 videos, one for the iphone and one for the ipod ?
If so then thats a right pain the in arse.
I would have thought mp4 is mp4 and would work on both the iphone and the ipod ?

There is no difference because as you said Java is platform independenec. However, the installer is platform-dependent so we needed to package the Beans differently.

You can do one thing...
Activate the SLED check...
BY this when the date goes earlier or late from the expected date, then system show you the messages like:
1. Earliest delivery date is DD.MM.YY..
2. Expected delivery date was DD.MM.YY...
In std sap system, the second message is already error message...so when get late delivery then it'll not be possible to maintain the GR...
For the qty varinace, activate the quantity variance either via over/under delievery tolerances..or
Via SPRO settings...
SPRO >> MM >> LIV >> Invoice block >> check for qty tolerances and make the settings as per your requirement...

Multiple iTunes Libraries - One for Music and One for Videos

Because my laptop's hard drive's filling up with videos, I'd like to movie them to a library on an external drive. Is it possible to have two libraries, one for music and the other for videos, and have iTunes keep them organized, or will I have to do it manually?

Suggestion: Play All and Shuffle for Video

I'd really like to make a suggestion for Play All, and Shuffle Play All for videos in TV. I really miss that about my EyeHome I could set it to play a TV show continuously while I work on other things, one time I had two seasons of a show play shuffled and continuously for 12 hours while I was working.
Also more sub menus. So I can have a TV show name, click to then show All the seasons of that show. Click a season to show all the shows in that season. But at the top of each menu to Play All, and Shuffle Play All. Sometimes I like to randomly play all of a certain show.
Also sub menus for movies. So Lord of the Rings will be listed, clicking it takes me to All three movies. At the top I can start to play them all in Order.

What is the aspect ratio and fps for video in Connect 9?

I'm trying to find any definitive details on the aspect ratio and fps supported by Connect 9. It is well documented for 8 that it was 640x480 at 20 fps. Is that the same for 9? Or has that improved?

The supported resolution and frame rates for video in the Video pod have not changed with Connect 9.

ATV2 and Airplay for videos???

I bought the ATV2 and when I try to stream a music from Itunes 10 by clicking the airplay icon on this program, everything is ok. But when I do the same thing with my videos from Itunes, it doesn't work at all. Is anything wrong or is it just like this?

OK, so I have the ATV2, latest s/w running on it (says I am up to date), itunes 10.1 installed on my macbook pro and still no video airplay support. I can of course "pull" it by going into ATV menus and connecting to my computer and it all works, but I am assuming the 10.1 release notes that mention this "new" feature meant that I could initiate the video from my computer and just select the ATV as the "output" instead of "computer" in itunes. no such luck here.
Hope Apple has better luck with ios4.2 to let the iphone/ipad initiate the video since it was pretty high on SJ's announcements back in Sept...
Oh yeah and fix the freakin wifi bug in the iphone! (adhoc)

File Type and Size for Video iPod

I have the latest ipod that does it all, but I am a little concerned about the lack of control on the file type size. I can export a mp4 file with my own settings so it isn't such a large file but it won't load or play. I can convert the file but it makes it the standard file size which is larger than I want it to be. Isn't there a way to save my own settings and still have it play video?

i dont know if it works for you, and it may also spoil your other calls.
try to put the same post in IP Telephony section on the same Cisco forum, you will get good help there on how to tune your VG for DTMF.

Powerpoints and converting for video

HI
Can powerpoints (from PC) be converted to use for a DVD video? If so, do the powerpoints still have functionality to choose pages and show photos with transitions that is in the PP presentation?
The reason I'm asking is that a client wants to know if this is possible so that their whole presentation, Powerpoint and videos can be put on one disc.
We don't want to embed the videos into the powerpoint as they will loose too much quality I think.
If anyone has any thoughts on the best way to do this I'd love to hear from you.
Is a DVD-ROM another option? Would this still show good quality videos?

No.
If the client wants to have people see his powerpoint presentation in all it's flying font glory, convert it to a stand alone powerpoint presentation format and simply copy it to a dataDVD. Anyone who wants to play it simply copies it to a hard drive and plays away.
Otherwise, be prepared for a long slog that will leave everyone unhappy.

3gp videos and mp4s on the iphone

hi there i did have a samsung d900 with lots of videos on there i have manged to put them on my pc, ok i want to upload them to my i phone though itunes i see a list of videos on there all ready what folder on my pc is it getting this list from as there are vid clips in there i dont want. can i upload and how please anyone help

You can just drag and drop your video folder (say from Explorer) over into the iTunes library and the videos will appear in iTunes.
iTunes will only transfer MPEG4 (and only those coded properly) to the iPhone. There is a full list of specs but in general the max bitrate should be no more than 1500 (1000 is better), with 640 the max resolution.
