8350i Sprint/Nextel

I have an 8350i company issued phone from Nextel/Sprint.  I was wondering if anyone else with this phone/service receives a "blackberry update" from time to time that really messes with the phone.  About once a month, my phone acts up and does something odd, most recently, it all of a sudden wouldn't take on a charge.  Every time, I'll turn the phone off, remove/replace the battery, turn it back on, and I'll see the "Blackberry Update" in my inbox.  I always end up deleting it, but it gets so annoying and I just wanted to see if anyone else is having similar problems or if there is a solution out there to prevent it from reoccurring.

Yep, you're not up-to-date with the latest.
The lates OS release for the 8250i is:

  • 8350i Sprint-Nextel problems after OS 5.0 upgrade

    1. Keyboard lock icon gone.  Function now works via "MUTE" key.
    2. Some application shortcuts no longer work ("protocol not supported - type in a different url" is the message). Unresolved - no solution found.
    3. No matter what notifier or downloaded song I pick as the SMS or MMS message alert, alert rings as "notifier-crystal" even though something else appears on the ring tone line.  Unresolved - no solution found.
    4. Text message problem (before and after upgrade) - MMS/SMS messages not being received (intermittent).  Only way I know its happening is if I try to send a text and get a red "x" or friends call me and ask why I haven't responded to their texts.  Simple solution - turn unit off then on (battery pull not needed).  Then text messages start pouring in.  Work OK for a while then they stop again.  Tech assistance did some over-the-air resets and made me change/verify some settings.  Did not work.  I find myself turning phone off and on several times daily as a band-aid solution.  Sometimes occurs with emails too.  Very annoying.

    Welcome to the forums
OS 5.0 isn't official yet so you may face bugs/issues with it. Other than that, I can suggest a battery pull and resending your service books from the BIS site.
    Cheers,

  • BB 8350i w/ Desktop Mng 4.7 - checking updates never finishes or closes

I reinstalled the software without the option of "check updates". Just rechecked - it has a nice big X.
Managed to work with it twice without it checking for updates and now it has returned to endlessly checking.
    BB 8350i (Sprint/Nextel)
    Widows XP pro
Zone Alarm - firewall & AV.
this is getting to be very frustrating .... I cannot delete and then re-install the software every time that I want to sync the device with my Office 2007.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Reconciling Emails--NOT!!

Please help.  I'm a small non-profit, just purchased the Curve 8350i (Sprint/Nextel).  Installed Blackberry Desktop Manager and can't reconcile emails as part of the sychronization process.  The option is not even highlighted.  Talked to Blackberry Tech Support who said reconciling emails is not an option!!!  What is the point of a blackberry if you have to delete every email twice (once from Outlook and once from the device)?  Is there another alternative?  My very old Blackberry and the corresponding software allowed me to reconcile--why wouldn't the newer versions?

Sorry--on a persona BIS account, message reconciliation is not a function. The BlackBerry Tech was right.
Doesn't matter whether non-profit or what, if you have a personal BIS account, nope. It is a function for corporate BES acccounts.
So, your "very old BlackBerry" on which it worked, what BlackBerry model and software was that... a corporate BES device?
Even new devices can reconcile email, as long as they are on a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service) account.
    Good luck.

  • 8350i Cannot send SMS only MMS. Nextel says BB don't support SMS.

I just got my 8350i  (BB with Nextel).  I love it, but I am unable to send SMS.  My understanding is that SMS is the same as a text message.  When I send text messages to people, it appears as something that they have to go to the internet to download the text.  Even if I say HI as the text, it makes them download the message.  My guess is that the BB is chaning my message to a MMS, instead of a SMS.   I called Nextel and they said that blackberrys don't support sms.  Is this true?
If so what in the !$%@ are they thinking?

Hello everyone ! I really hope that this information is good and I hope to save you time and a bad time, since I went thru this whole bad situation. I want to let Sprint PCS know that in order to have a good phone such as this BB 8350i they need to train their representatives about this phone, nobody seems to know what is going on about their new phones. I spent almost 1 hour in the phone with a Sprint PCS/Nextel representative trying to work my 8350i and he end up telling me that this phone WAS NOT SMS CAPABLE WHEN IT IS !!!
Anyway I had the same problem, I couldn't send SMS here is what I did; I called 611 from another nextel phone to get technical support, once one of them pick up ask them to tranfer you to Blackberry support. I am guessing Sprint has a special BB tech support or they transfer you to the BB Tech support center, which by the way if you call without being transfered from Sprint they will charge you $45 to TRY to fix the problem, solution may not be guarantee. Once I got tranfered to the BB tech support from sprint I has to make a couple of configuration changes such as the Firewall options, then  options/advanced options/Browser push and finally somehow my BB was able to send and recieve SMS without no problem. Here are the Sprint tech support numbers :
    Dial *2, press Talk
    or
    888-211-4727 (Sprint phones)
    800-639-6111 (Nextel phones)
    800-877-4646 (Wireline services)
So basically the 8350i IS CAPABLE OF SMS, if your nextel respresentative says it is not, hang up and call again a lot of the sprint/nextel representative are not good at all, I has so many bad incidents with sprint that I can even remember one time this ladie started yelling at me ! anyway call them and they should be able to fix the problem for you

  • 8350i Nextel Direct Connect doesn't work with GM Onstar Bluetooth

Paired my 8350i to my 2009 Chevy Silverado with Onstar and Bluetooth. Can make and receive phonecalls with Bluetooth but Direct Connect cannot. I have to turn off Bluetooth on the 8350i in order to utilize Direct Connect.

I have an 8350i with Nextel, and had similar issues with the Bluetooth in my 2012 Hyundai Accent.     Also by accident, I was able to figure out how to work the Nextel.  You do need to use the PTT button on the phone as you normally would.  (If you try listening in the handset it will not work, the connection to the bluetooth in the car needs to activate.)   If someone initiates a PTT conversation with you press the green "pick up call" button on the vehicle's bluetooth.   This will cause the bluetooth connection with the vehicle to activate.   Then you will be able to hear and speak through the vehicles bluetooth system while pressing and releasing the PTT button as you would if you were using Nextel through the handset.
It is even more awkward if you try placing a PTT call.   Hit the green "pick up call" button and even though the bluetooth system will be asking you for verbal commands to initiate a phone call, ignore them and "chirp" the person as you normally would.  It will work, not pretty, but it will work.  At the end of the call the system will still be asking for verbal commands, but simply hang up.
This worked whether the phone was in vibrate, speaker or not.

  • (2) message boxes on Nextel BlackBerry 8350i

I just got the Blackberry Curve 8350i from Nextel. I set up my email and now I have to message boxes. Both of which display my emails.
One box displays all emails, missed, incoming and sent calls. The other shows all emails. How do I fix this??
As well as the message display counter for missed calls that shows as if you have mail messages...???
    Thank you
    JMW

Simply HIDE the secondary message folder, it is not needed.
Scroll to it but do not click or select it. Press the Menu key on your BlackBerry (left of the trackball) and press HIDE.

  • Need help with 8350i! Doesn't charge+ other problems

    Hello everyone,
First of I do not have much Blackberry experience, so all help is appriciated.
So a little over two weeks ago I got me the 8350i, phone worked fine other than the well known issues (sms/mms, echo). Then on Jan 31st, when Sprint/Nextel had service problems all day long (all my friends with Nextel were complaining that day, Sprint customers for two days even) in my area it began...
The very next day, my phone stopped receiving sms messages, all messages sent (except instant messages and e-mails) were automatically changed to mms messages.
On top of that, my BB stopped charging from the wall outlet. It also doesn't connect to my laptop and so far on 2 ocasions connected to my work PC. I tried using different outlets, different BB chargers, even Samsung Behold, HTC Dash and Sidekick LX chargers (which all used to work for the first few days of me having the phone) and none of them work. When I connect the chargers it charges for about 15 seconds and stops.
When I connect it to my laptop it either says "unknown usb device connected" or nothing happens other than a 15 second charge and it stops. On my laptop I have the BB desktop software and it doesn't detect the phone, my work PC which it has connected to once today and once on Feb 2nd, has no BB software. I've tried a few different USB cables and the only one that seems to work is the charger for my Creative Zen MP3 player (that's the one that I used those two times that it worked).
The only way I can charge my phone is through a car charger!
I tried pulling the battery, and the sim card and it didn't help. Also the pins in the usb plug seem fine, all 5 of them. The device was never dropped and theres no chance of water damage.
I got this phone from a third party store and they don't have it in stock to replace it yet, so if anyone can help me with this for the time being, it'll be greatly appriciated, thanks in advance.
Also I noticed the telenav GPS is extremely horrible when the firewall is turned on, once the firewall is turned off the telenav GPS works better.
    Thanks.

My 8310 Curve only charges on the home charger.  I bought an aftermarket car cradle and it worked when the phone was new, but no longer.  It worked for a while with the standard car charger but now that is done too.  The usb plug and cord look fine, and since it works with the home unit it seems like it should be something in the phone.  When plugged in, the charging symbol lights for a few seconds then goes and stays off, regardless of how juiced the battery already is.  Any ideas?  I need to drive from Boston to Daytona next week and won't be able to use the gps function because it kills the battery too fast if not plugged in.  Thanks in advance!

  • 8350i bluetooth on phone handset don't ring

I just purchased a 8350i Nextel Blackberry and found that when my Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset is connected, the phone does not ring. There are some beep tones in the headset indicating an incoming call.
I upgraded from a NON-Smartphone (Nextel i870) and with that device I could hear ring tones (even customer per caller) in BOTH the handset and the bluetooth device. So I go with a "smart phone" and it doesnt seem possible?
I have read at various places that this may be a bug, and also heard there is a software update coming on 2-11-09 that MAY address the issue. Nothing confirmed. I read a ton of posts that talk about this issue,.. but no solution.
I spoke with Nextel blackberry support and they denied there was a bug or a software update coming. She was telling me to change settings, reboot phone, clear logs, and all kinds of stuff before the call got lost (i was on a landline). Go figure.
Any chance this issue will be resolved?

ok no responses so far? seems like this problem has been posted before... it only effects the 8350i from Nextel/Sprint. Not other curves.
Though I found similar posts, I have not found anyone or anywhere with a solution. Many say its part of the phone and a "bug".
I am curious if the new software resolves it?

  • 8350i address download to car not working

3 day old 8350i on Nextel network will not download contacts to my 2009 BMW.  It tries to transfer contacts but fails.  BMW site says it does not support 8350i.  Bluetooth to car is not dependable. My 7100i Blackberry (6 years old worked fine).  Blackberry technical says no fix. I can not believe many others do not have the same problem.  Any ideas?

Hi Rob, I have GUI 640 / EXCEL 2003 on my system.
I have re-started the system and I am able to download to excel now.
    Don't know what was wrong.
    Thanks,

  • BB 8350i is slow (not network connetion)

My Blackberry 8350i (on Nextel) is so incredibly slow sometimes that it is almost unuseable. This is not the Nextel network connection, it is the phone itself.
I will roll the trackball and at least 50% of the time, it's literally 2 or 3 seconds before it moves. Sometimes it's 5 seconds or more. When I save entries, it can take up to 30 seconds for the save to complete and the menu screen showing the highlight on 'Save' to disappear. Exiting from applications can take 3 - 10 seconds.
When I play the  Texas Hold'em poker game, the cards being dealt will stop in mid delivery for a second or two.
I usually see the hourglass in the poker game, and sometimes elsewhere, but not always.
This is supported by my company, but they unfortunately do not have the expertise to figure this out. I have Wi-fi enabled to connect to the company Wi-fi network.

    Ok, let's do the following.
    Make selective backup
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8100&message.id=15956#M15956
Refer to this article  to realize what databases you need to backup.
After that on the device go to Options - Security Options - General Settings
Open menu and select "Wipe handheld"
Now, does the problem disappear? If so - restore the backed up information.
