  • [845 Series] MS-6507 - How to enable and configure On Board LAN

I have a very old Medion PC bought from PC World ages ago, which has MS 6507 Mother Board (256MB RAM, 1.7GHz...).   It is still surviving and serving its purpose of net surfing chatting along with others. Till now it functioned as a standalone PC. I want to connect this PC to a LAN now. How can I do this? I found from the MS-6507 manual that there is an on board LAN connection? How do I enable it?
On the backside of my PC I do not find any RJ-45 jack connection, but I do have two USB ports.
Please respond and send me the answers quickly or else I may be conned / forced / compelled / mis-sold a LAN card worth some few bucks equivalent to buy few liters of pure alcohol for my Monday Morning tonic consumption. All thanks to the local broadband cable guy who belives he can sell that to me quicker then I can find the solution

There are many series to the MSI 845 chipset and your mobo is an OEM mobo from MSI to Medion and Medion do reserved the rights to have modifications to the board as well as the BIOS.
I can't say much about Medion MSI OEM boards but for the retail versions of the MSI 845 chipsets, there are actually versions like "Standard" only whereby only the standard stuffs are available like USB, onboard sound, onboard VGA etc but for LAN 10/100Mbps, Firewire and RAIDs are all optional depending on the versions.
For now, I can only say that you may want to reach back to Medion's website and find out from their products list on your system specs.

  • [845 Series] Boot issue

I have noticed for a while now on my desktop PC that I built that When the
Boot loader gets to the Windows boot screen with the indicating bar moving
across the screen it will start to slow down tremendously and then speed up
again then go to the desktop and it loads fine but that is bothering me and I
can not figure out what it is?? I have a 350 watt PS, a MSI MB 845 chipset, a
P4 2.2ghz processor, two memory sticks total 1 gig of ram they are corsair
and ultra, two HDD's maxtor 80gig and a 80 western digital as slave, one
chassis fan and one bay fan. ATI radeon 8900pro video card and a creative soundblaster 5.1
gamer card. I have tried several ways to figure out why it
is so slow upon boot? any ideas would help.

could be that the HDs are not properly jumpered, disconnect the slave completly, set the jumper on master and attach the end of the ribbon cable to the master drive, now open device manager and enable show hidden devices in the VIEW catagorie and uninstall all but the master HD you still have in the sys and reboot.
you did not state what OS you are using,if XP goto event viewer in admin and clear all events and watch for any errows that may show up and report back.

  • [845 Series] problem with 160 GB H.D.D

I have main board 845 ultra-c and when I tried to install and format a 160 GB WD hard drive on it it always stop responding using wd tools or even windows format and I did a bios update before to last version 1.4 and there is no new version and the H.D is defined on the bios without ant parameters just the size 160 GB (no cylinder , head)
so what I can do now ?

As you said it stops responding and it failed the SMART test which shows there is a fault there is no need to test the other drives if they work fine

  • [845 Series] MSI 845gv-m3 Mobo not booting when ATI RADEON 9550 G/Card inserted

    Hi All
I have a problem with a new graphics card that I have installed.  I had the Radeon 7000 Series 64MB Card.  PC worked fine with this card...now I want to upgrade to 9550 256MB AGP 8X Card but pc does not boot.  It is as if there is no graphics card installed.
Does anyone know of a sollution to this problem.  I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks and hope there will be someone that can help

No external power....i think i have found the problem.  I was chatting to some ppl online and found that the board does not support it.
I'm looking further into how I can overcome the problem of compatibility.  I tried flashing bios but even the new bios does not make a diff.
The board is 845GV-M3 which is not found on MSI site, but is on ECS's web site.
That is where I got the info on supported cards.  The ATI Radeon 9500 is supported though, which makes me think the 9550 should also be supported.  But I know very little about 3D cards.
    Thanks for the reply

  • [845 Series] 845E MAx2: CPU cooler and power supply stop when power cable plugged in to HDD

    Board: MSI 845E Max2
    BIOS: 6398E V.1
    UPDATED BIOS: 6398IMS V.5.7 040203
    CPU: Intel Celeron 1,7GHz
    RAM: 512GB Infineon
    Power: ATX 300W
Hard Disks: WD and Maxtor 10GB-30GB
    Hi all,
whenever I plug in the power cable to the hard disk computer shuts down after 2-5 seconds. If I try to start it again nothing happens. So I need to plug off and on the ATX-connector again so that the power supply works and the CPU-fan spins. However, as long as a hard drive is attached (it does not even need to be connected to any of the IDE-controller; having connected to the power supply is sufficient) it shuts down.
    Following tests were done:
1- other hard disks were used
2- other power supply resources were used
3- computer was started with short connecting the power switch through the respective pins
Still the same result. If no hard disk is plugged in, system starts fine.
So I flashed the bios to A6398ims.570 without connecting the hard disks (since no hard disk drives were available the win98 start diskette created a c drive in the physical memory - afaiu - and I flashed the bios via this generated c drive). But nothing is changed!
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Hi again,
after reading the PSU guide I used a HDD which was 20GB (an older one of app. 4 years) and system booted normally. It seems that the PSU of 300W was having a difficulty of serving the relative newer HDD with power. I will test it with a min. 400W PSU and let you know if the problem is completely solved.
    Thanks for your helpful comments.

  • [845 Series] Does my MS-6507 motherboard support 200gb hard drives???

I just recently bought a Maxtor 200gb hard drive and can only see 127gb of it when I installed it.  So I'm wondering does my motherboard (MS-6507) even support 200gb hard drives?  If so, do I just need to update BIOS or my OS (Win XP service pack 2) and I should see the remaining?  Thanks!!!

Answerd in your bios post, so I will close this one.

  • [845 Series] 845PE and SATA DVD Burner, am I missing something here?

    Hello all,
I seem to be finding a lot of people with issues regarding Plextor SATA drives, but I may just not have the right mobo to do what I want, maybe someone can help me figure this out.
    Here are my basic specs:
    845PE Max2 mobo
    3 HDD(Don't think brand/capacity matters here)
    1 DVD ROM drive
I have 2 of my HDD hooked up to my Primary IDE channel, and the DVD ROM hooked up to my Secondary IDE channel, and I have the third HDD hooked up to the extra IDE channel set up for RAID on this motherboard, but when I hook up the Plextor burner to my SATA channel 1, it doesn't show up ANYWHERE.
    Here are my questions:
Can I use an optical SATA drive with this board, or will it only work with HDD's?
If I CAN use an optical drive, are the SATA channels hooked up somehow with the third IDE channel (In other words, is the fact that I have an IDE drive already on the third channel negating the SATA channels in the firsat place?)?
If the HDD IS what is causing the SATA drive not to show up, will moving it to the slave position on my Secondary IDE channel fix this, and if so, will my drive letter change?
I sure hope this isn't covered somewhere else in the forums, but I really didn't see MY exact problem anywhere.
I appreciate any and all help that you folks can provide!
    Thanks!
    Mike Wells

Your MOBO does not seem to be on the list as compatible with SATA Plextor optical drives. Of course, you could use a PCI card (SATA) in your machine.
Here are links to Plextor's MOBO compatability list:

  • [845 Series] PX8 Neo-V motherboard

    hi
i have just installed a new PX8 Neo-V into my system.  however it allowed me into the bios once to change the boot sequence and when it restarted the system basically freezes.  The cpu fan is running but the only light that is on is the h/d and then it turns off.
is there anything i can do to see what it my be?
I am running an intel celeron 1.7 cpu with 256 meg ram. I was told it would be okay but it is starting to annoy me as i can't even get into the bios now

According to this the PX8 Neo-V doesn't work with Willamette processors. I don't know if any current MSI motherboards will. The Willamette's worked at a higher voltage than today's boards supply.

  • [845 Series] SATA and overclocking

When i install an SATA drive it works fine until i over clock my processor. When i do the motherboard stops reconizing the hard drive. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Assaf, is locking PCI bus will lock SATA bus too?
This is one of my concern too to upgrade my hdd to SATA. Typically, I overclock to FSB 250 and no one can confirm me if SATA lock is there in my board. My friend have Tyan board with 875 chipset and don't have sata lock, and some other good branded board out there don't have it too.

  • [845 Series] Can the MSI 6507 support a 200GB hard drive?

If not can the BIOS be updated so that it can support a disk of this size?

    use Win2k SP4 or WinXP SP1 then you're done.

  • [845 Series] mb msi 848p neo-v problems with sound card

Since I've bought my new MB, I'm experiancing some problems with my sound card. WinAmp and MusicMatch Jukebox ( any version) does not support 5.1 sound system, but playing in stereo system. The soundcard AC97 is OK, cause Winows Media Player is working properly.Does anyone had such problem and solved it?
I must say that I've already used MSI MB, and all APPs worked properly with the same sound card. The difference is that my ex MB was based on old Intel processors, but not Presscot based as this one.

Have you installed the latest driver to
    the Realtec soundchip(ALC 655)?

  • [845 Series] Adding 1gb of Ram to the MSI 6507 MB.

I have just attempted to add 1gb of ram (PC2100 DDR 266MHz CL2.5) to my MS6507 MB. When I go to power up my system nothing happens, the system only starts working again when I remove the new stick of ram. I have a 512mb stick in the other slot.
I have checked and the MB supports up to 2GB of ram. Any ideas why this is not being picked up??

I have tried the 1gb stick in both slots. SPD is set in the bios, I had previously been using 512 and 256 sticks in the two slots. Basically trying to find out if I have been sold a faulty stick of ram or if its not compatible with my MB (MS-6507). I have checked the MB spec and it says it can take up to 2GB of ram so am pretty sure that compatibility is not the issue??

  • [845 Series] 845 Ultra - 9 beeps, does not POST

With my computer running I plugged in a NEC 870 printer into my LPT port. The printer was off and not connected to an outlet, but my system froze. I restarted the computer, it started beeping and didn't POST. I then did a hard reset and it POSTed but froze again when it was starting up XP. I then unplugged the printer from the LPT port but it didn't make a difference I can no longer get it to POST it just gives me 9 beeps .
It's an AMI Bios and I looked up the beep code and got this: ROM checksum error - bad BIOS
I've tried clearing the CMOS; reseated the battery; removed all my pci cards and my video card but still get the same problem.
Could plugging my printer to the LPT port with the computer running have fried my motherboard??
It there anything else I can try.
    Thanks

Normally it wouldn't do any harm, but I suppose there was a short somewhere in the loop.
If you disconnected it and reset your CMOS there probably isn't much to do about it.
I would not plug that printer into any other computers before you try it on some ancient P200MMX or something like that that you don't care about.
