845E MAX2-LR / USB 2.0 Issue

Just bought the new 845E MAX2-LR, when using Windows ME and USB 2.0 drivers, I get a green circle with a question mark in the device manager under
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller.
This does not apper in Windows XP.
Does anybody know what this green circle means? I have never seen it before.
845E MAX2-LR
Intel Pentium 4, 1.60GHz
PNY 256Mb 2100 DDR RAM
Pioneer DVD 106S
HP 9700i CD-RW
ATI All-In-Wonder 128 PRO 32MB AGP

Be sure you have installed the intel inf first, then after restart install the ICH4 USB2.0 driver .
You need to have an updated bios for it to work, so that might be your problem.

and i have problem , maybe You can answer me where is the root of this situation.
I connect harddisks to Ata 133 raid controler (IDE 3 and IDE 4) one disc to one IDE port, when i copy files for example 700 mb from one disc to another one , copy process goes very fast, but when i copy the same file from one partition to another partition on the same disc, this process takes me about 5 minutes!!!! where is the problem??? I installed all software for raid, for ata133, intel aplication accelerator, and nothing changed  :( , my buddy have the same mainboard , hard disks connected identical like me , on his computer copy process of the same file takes about 2 minutes.!!!.   Big thanks for any response for my question. I would try this ...  leave your ram at 200...
there is a memory setting .. tha comes set at 8 .. I forgot the name . Doh .. drop it down to 4
then set your FSB to 144 ... see what happens ...
leave the voltage core at defualt. I am doing this with cheap generic 512 ddr 266... .and it works like a charm..
no cold boot issues or glitchy lock ups .
I doubt our boards are much different ...
I have eard Alot of problems with Kingmax =(! ...

  • Linux Redhat 7.3 Support IDE RAID Promise PDC20276 "845E Max2 LR

    845E Max2 LR (MS-6398E) Motherboard with onboard PDC20276
I Must have linux redhat 7.3 support for onboard
PROMISE IDE RAID  -- if it was clearly supported I
could build a serious web farm or render farm with
this nicely priced powerhouse of a motherboard.
I emailed MSICOMPUTER.com to see if they support it since web site has no
specific mention of Linux Redhat 7.3 support.
Very low cost high performing MBoard -- I am hoping to build a web farm using the
mirroring capability of the onboard chip
Please advise if you know of anyone with success or hints.
I am assembling it and about to try -- no doc on Promise.com or redhat.com or msicomputer.com
    or anywhere.
promise.com site says mboard maker must support onboard promise chips.  promise.com web site
says promise.com will not support mboard makers.

Thanks.  Here is were I am up to (see my question at the end).
    I.  I received rhup-ftb22.zip from the people at promise.com who promised that they can't support
this but I "could try it".  MSI.com must support the onboard chip.  Anyone at MSI.com feel free to contact
me direct -- perhaps we can work something out
and together we can qualify this promise chip for

FastTrak Series Linux Driver Version 1.02.0.22
Installation Note for RedHat Linux [06/27/2002]
    [INTRODUCTION]
    1.1 Foreword
This driver diskette should be used with all Promise FastTrak Series
adapter and onboard chipsets running under RedHat Linux operating
           systems.
Do NOT use this diskette for other versions of Linux for FastTrak
           support.

1.3 Linux kernel 2.4.x ATA issue on FastTrak Series PDC20265R/PDC20270
Linux Kernels 2.4.x misidentifies PDC20265R/PDC20270 (FastTrak 100 Lite
        motherboard-embedded solution/FastTrak100TX2) cards and/or chips as simple
IDE controllers. This results in the built-in Linux IDE driver trying to
handle the controller and can prevent the proper FastTrak ATA RAID driver
to be loaded. Follow the installation instructions AND the parameter
commands referred to in the Notes section.
        This called "IDE issue."
    [INSTALLATION]
Extract the contents of the ZIP file on to a formatted floppy disk.
(ZIP file can be extracted by `WinZIP' in windows or `unzip' in linux)
Label the disk "FastTrak Driver Disk".

    ----- snip ------
III. For my RAID farm, render farm, I have multiple
20 GB IBM IDE/100 hard drives, so I connected one
of them to a regular (non-RAID) IDE port, booted from CDROM and sucessfully installed Redhat 7.3 selecting very simple defaults.  Tried multiple times, clean shutdown, clean reboot, all OK, no surprises.  Great.
Then after clean shutdown, I removed ths drive from
the IDE connector and moved it to the first RAID IDE
conenctor.  Then I added an identical blank drive to the
second RAID IDE connector.  The boot process guided
me to select between "Performance" mode (striping)
versus "Security" mode (mirroring).  I selected mirroring
purely so that I do not have to panic when a drive fails, I can take my time in replacing the falty drive and no
one will ever have noticed a problem.
Upon reboot, it started to clear boot but locked up
within a few seconds after starting to spew boot messages.
I would have expected that Linux would have recognized the RAID array as some standard
    supported SCSI drive.
I guessed the promise engineers didn't think of
adding a BIOS option to force the chip to emulate
some simple cheap reliable SCSI drive (maybe the next
motherboard support chip), so I imagined that I would
have to make sure PDC20276  (MBFastTrak133 Lite)
    support is added.
Then I returned the drive to the IDE (non-RAID) port,
    rebooted successfully, unzipped rhup-ftb22.zip into
a directory and ran the following command:
    # sh install
Looking at install, it seems to take a peak in
    the following directory:
    /lib/modules
and sees the name "2.4.18" in mine just to figure
out where to copy "FastTrak.o" (/lib/modules/.../kernel/drivers/scsi in my case).
Then it determines that /etc/lilo.conf is not there
and confirms that /boot/grub/grub.conf exists and
append the following text to the "kernel" line:
    ide0=0x1f0,0x3f6,14 ide1=0x170,0x376,15 ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0 ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0
    then inserts the following modules:
    FastTrak
    scsi_mod
    sd_mod
QUESTION:  Should I now expect to boot OK by removing the drive from the IDE (non-RAID), moving to
first RAID port, adding second blank identical IDE drive
    to second RAID port?
BEFORE DOING THAT: Before trying, for fun, I added two blanks to the RAID ports and booted from the IDE
(non-RAID), yes three IDE drives altogether.
Here is what I now see in the dmesg:
    ---- snip ----
    SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
PROMISE FastTrak Series Linux Driver Version 1.02.0.22
    scsi0 : FastTrak

    FINAL COMMENT:
Seeing the following line in the readme.txt:
           Red Hat 7.3      (kernel 2.4.18-3)
is very comforting when my uname -a results in:
    Linux **.**.com 2.4.18-3 #1 Thu Apr 18 07:37:53 EDT 2002 i686 unknown
Perhaps I should freeze my kernel at 2.4.18-3 until

  • 845E MAX2-LR / S.M.A.R.T

During post messages, the HDD controller displays S.M.A.R.T.  capable but disabled, I have searched the BIOS from top to bottom and there is no S.M.A.R.T  enable or disable setting anywhere
Does anybody know where it is?
    845E MAX2-LR
    Intel Pentium 4, 1.60GHz
    PNY 256Mb 2100 DDR RAM
    WDC 100GB 100 ATA HDD
    Maxtor 30GB 100 ATA HDD
    Pioneer DVD 106S
    HP 9700i CD-RW
    ATI All-In-Wonder 128 PRO 32MB AGP

As I said in my original post, there is NO S.M.A.R.T  setting anywhere, as a matter of fact, it is not even written in the manual.  It appears this board has an INCOMPLETE BIOS.
    The following items are missing:
    S.M.A.R.T IDE FOR HARD DISKS.
    AGP MODE
    AGP FAST WRITE
    AGP ARPETURE SIZE
    IDE HDD AUTO DETECTION
All of these settings were available in my KT7266 Pro2 and I feel they are important and should have been included on the 845E MAX2-LR as well,  whether the chipset is a VIA or Intel, the BIOS should have been relatively close.
I flashed the BIOS back to V 5.2 to see if these items appeared and they did not, so I guess this is the way this board was meant to run.  I hope MSI and AMI will look into this issue, otherwise, this mainboard is HISTORY!

  • Still no fix for USB card sleep Issue

Hi I just bought a 3rd party USB 2.0 card (an IOGEAR GIC251U). When I plug my LaCie extrenal USB drive in it works fine, until the computer has been to sleep. When the computer wakes up the drive has disappeared and I get a message saying that the drive has been improperly disconnected and that I can damage it by not ejecting before disconnecting.
Looking at the posts on this forum, it seems that this PCI USB card sleep issue is a persistant problem. I have even heard buying a card described as a "crap shoot".
That is not an acceptable answer to me. I insist that Apple reccomend a USB 2.0 card that it is willing to garuntee will work with my mac (an AGP G4 blue and white tower). If not, how can Apple in good faith sell computers with PCI that isnt equipped to handle built in apple features such as the sleep mode? I don't mean to sound like a demanding jerk of a customer but I dont think it is too much to ask that my computers advertised features (PCI expandability and sleep mode) both be able to work together.
G4/400 MHz AGP graphics   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi
xlr8yourmac.com has a wealth of info on compatable devices of all kinds, it's often worth looking there & other Mac sites before purchasing..
Apple cannot possibly determine compatability of all available 3rd party devices, it is up to the vendor to determine what systems/OS versions their hardware will support.
I would stick with a vendor that is known for Mac support, such as Sonnet (or others that are sold through Mac sites such as OWC, SmallDog,etc.,) unless you are willing to do significant research on a specific product for compatability with your specific setup prior to purchasing.

  • [845 Series] 845E MAx2: CPU cooler and power supply stop when power cable plugged in to HDD

    Board: MSI 845E Max2
    BIOS: 6398E V.1
    UPDATED BIOS: 6398IMS V.5.7 040203
    CPU: Intel Celeron 1,7GHz
    RAM: 512GB Infineon
    Power: ATX 300W
Hard Disks: WD and Maxtor 10GB-30GB
    Hi all,
whenever I plug in the power cable to the hard disk computer shuts down after 2-5 seconds. If I try to start it again nothing happens. So I need to plug off and on the ATX-connector again so that the power supply works and the CPU-fan spins. However, as long as a hard drive is attached (it does not even need to be connected to any of the IDE-controller; having connected to the power supply is sufficient) it shuts down.
    Following tests were done:
1- other hard disks were used
2- other power supply resources were used
3- computer was started with short connecting the power switch through the respective pins
Still the same result. If no hard disk is plugged in, system starts fine.
So I flashed the bios to A6398ims.570 without connecting the hard disks (since no hard disk drives were available the win98 start diskette created a c drive in the physical memory - afaiu - and I flashed the bios via this generated c drive). But nothing is changed!
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Hi again,
after reading the PSU guide I used a HDD which was 20GB (an older one of app. 4 years) and system booted normally. It seems that the PSU of 300W was having a difficulty of serving the relative newer HDD with power. I will test it with a min. 400W PSU and let you know if the problem is completely solved.
    Thanks for your helpful comments.

  • Another windows 8.1 usb 3.0 issue

    Hi all,
my usb 3.0 port worked fine in windows 8,, then updated to 8.1 and 8.1 update 1.
Then I had to run a system restore (to a point in time 24 hours before), and then... boom:
No device is detected anymore on the usb 3.0 port of my laptop.
No usb key, no disk... the usb 3.0 disk light turns on and it's blue (3.0) but the device is ignored by windows: no error
    in device manager, just nothing.
The only thing I noted, is that when I insert anything in that port, the system interrupts entry of the task manager spikes
to 17% and stays there forever, until I reboot.
I've tried everything I could find on the web for 2 days, I'm probably giving up and will disable the "Intel (R) USB
3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)” entry in device manager.
I can't believe it's a hardware issue... but it behaves as if it was. My UEFI is very simple and there are no settings for
usb, and the issue persists in safe mode too.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please check Device Manager if there was any error message with USB 3.0 driver. If so, what's the error code of it.

  • Are USB audio interface issues on iMac Haswell resolved?

    HI,
i just ordered a 27 inch iMac, maxed out with a 1TB SSD.
I noticed the imac doesn't have an audio in jack and figured i'd shop for a good USB Audio Interface.
But then i came across all these USB audio interface issues on the new iMac.
This is incredible to me because iMacs are often used by creative people and lots of musicians.
For me audio is VERY important. I record music and i record sound for animation and video.
Apple thus far seemed to be avoiding the topics and issues at hand.
Are the USB audio issues resolved? What was resolved? What was the problem (Maverick? Fusion Drive)?
Is it wise to choose for a Thunderbolt Interface? Which one?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Especcialy since it seems such a wide spread problem.
    Thanx

doubt it would be a general issue
usb is a universal serial bus it always require a driver for anything
and the driver of one external audio device would act different then the driver from another external audio device
so it would be very unlikely that an external audio card using a cirrus logic audio chip would cause the same issues with the imac as one with a realtek or soundblaster audio chip
not that there could not be issues with all of them but not likely that they would suffer from the same issue

I need a redhat linux 8 driver for the onboard Promise Fasttrack133 on my MS-6398E 845E Max2 MSI does not have one and Promise does not have one. Other versions dont work. Any help?

I just found a thread on the OLD Forum with the exact same problem on a different motherboard.  There is still no solution, however.

Subject: 845 Ultra CPU or Memory Problems??
This is our first experience with the MS-6398, 845 Ultra.
We installed a 2.0 processor and smelled a foul smell, assume the CPU was burnt and returned it for another. We installed another brand new processor and then the D bracket showed 4 LED, indicating CPU problem.
We then removed the CPU, it appears to still be okay and then for the heck of it, installed another stick of memory. Then the LED's changed to LED2 being green, indicating memory problem.
Now we're still there, no stick of memory will work, we're using PC2100.
Are we missing something? Is there a jumper or setting or something that we aren't seeing or reading about.
    Thanks!

  • New bios 845E Max2 is out

Just notice from the msi web site that the new bios version 5.4 is now out for 845E Max2 mobo.

    Hi ArbalestPang,
You can email MSI tech support as often as you want but I do think they are either too busy to response or just ignore any support request emails. I have tried couple times to email them some of my minor problems related to this mobo I have and so far I got no response from them.
By the way, the new Bios still have not fix the problem for system hungs during warm boot if you oc the FSB from 100 to 133.

  • Northbridge fan 845E Max2

    Hello all
I was wondering if it is safe to remove the fan on the northbridge of the 845E Max2 (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=311). I want to remove it, because it's to noisy and because I only use it as a server.
    Thanks in advance

Yep. No problems there. I would replace the stock heatsink with a better one. I use an NB-1 from thermalright. But this is me. The stock heatsink will just fine for you.

95% of the time that I use my T440p, I boot from a Windows To Go USB 3.0 stick that is Windows 8.1 based.  My native hard drive is the default Win 8 from Lenovo.  After updating to the latest BIOS (i.e., 2.19), which I believe is supposed to address the USB 3.0 issue, I still am getting the prompt/message to "Keep the USB drive plugged in" and to only remove it after the PC has shut down, etc.  When this message is shown, I have never observed a loss of functionality.
    Thoughts?
I'm on the High Performance power option,  and have the USB selective suspend setting disabled, and also changed the USB 3.0 setting in the BIOS to Enabled instead of Auto after the BIOS update. Should I go back to Auto?

Anybody have similar issues?  I guess there's few people using a Windows To Go stick?
In any event, this is still a significant issue for me despite upgrading the firmware on the 128GB Kingston DataTraverler Workspace running Win 8.1 as well as trying the following registry edit/hack (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/usbcoreblog/archive/2013/11/01/help-after-installing-windows-8-1-my-usb-driv...

  • Can 845E MAX2 use PC2700-3200

    My system is:
    Win XP Pro
    P4 2.4G
    MSI 845E MAX2
    MSI TI4600
    365w enermax ps
    512M stick of PC2100
The manual says the motherboard supports pc2100 ddr.
Was that the best ddr at time of printing? I really want to pull out the pc2100 & drop in 2x 512M sticks of Corsair PC3200 400Mhz DDR.  But does the board support this? How about PC2700?
If so, would I have to tweak anything to get it to work right?

Sounds like I'd be better off going for an extra 512MB stick (3 total) instead of higher Mhz specs.  I've seen a few posts about using PC2700 DDR333 on 845E max2.
I basically want to be using the highest spec ram the board can safely take (rather not oc if I dont have to).
I dont want to buy 2-3 sticks of pc2100 now & later
upgrade to pc2700; an incredible waste of money when I can get Corsair PC2700 for same price as various brands of PC2100.  I just need to know which type is the max/I should use.  I've seriously looked & cant find the answer.

  • MSI 845E Max2 - Wierd Problems....

    Hi
Recently, i made a "little" upgrade in my computer and i decided to buy this:
    MSI 845E Max2 MS-6566E
    512MB DDR 266
    P4 2,4 MHz 400
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro128 64
    HDD 40GB Seagate Barracuda 7200
    DVD 16/40 Panasonic
    ... and a cheap SB LIve 5.1 ( not enought money  :D )
Well.. my nightmare begins when i started put all together except ATI, cause it will arrive at next friday, so, i put my old Riva TNT64 32..
    Result... nothing!
    No boot, signal or else.
I thought was graphic card and i put an older ATI All in wonder pro pci .. nothing again..
I contact my dealer and he replaced my msi by an Asus P4S333  ;(  until the new msi come and replace again ).
This problem was a msi defected board or maybe an anoying conflict?
Will be my new ATI radeon 9700 pro accepted by MSI 845E Max2 MS-6566E?
    I really need help ?(
    Best regards

whilst i understand your frustration but this is a user to user support forum and the only people you will get dirrect answers from in here are other users who have both your board and the 9700 video card, they appear to be thin on the ground at the momment
i do hope you saved some of your money for a descent psu as that will be a power hungry system you have their
you could try here see if any test revues were done with the 9700,the boards i know have problems are 400 via chipsets and early 9700 pcb models below 1.3link
