845G max problems at 133FSB

I've tried several memory modules (Samsung, Micron, etc.) and my PC2100 modules set to run at 266mhz (133fsb in bios 200mhz memory speed) and my system always freezes after about 1/2 hour of gameplay. I know it's not the processor (1.6a running at 133FSB) because it runs stable on my epox board. I finally swapped out the board and replaced it with an epox which works great but I would like to use the MSI 845G. I can have the computer on all day with the MSI but as soon as I play UT2003 or Q3 for about 1/2 hour I get a hard lock. I have no problems whatsoever running at 100mhz (400 quad pumped)  FSB. Could it be memory incompatibilities? I've yet to hear from MSI and I have tried all of the BIOS updates. It occurs whether I use 1 module of 512, 2 modules of 256, or one module of 256 DDR (although this is the most stable and last longer before crashing). All the memory settings were set to the slowest.

I'm using a Geforce 2 GTS (Visiontek) and an Enermax P4 400Watt Power Supply. There's a soundblaster live value and a generic video casd. 2 Maxtor hardrives (20gb and 40gb both 5400RPM) a Panasonic 16X DVD and a Mitsumi 24X CDRW. The system is housed ain a chieftec server case with 3 80mm Panaflos. As far as overclocking it is only the processor. I am running the ram at and peripherals at default speed when the FSB is set to 133. I've tested the processor on 4 different other P4 boards (two Epox 845 based, on Via Based, and one SIS based 645) and it works perfectly at 133 FSB at default voltage and runs games for hours without incident. I want to know if there are some settings that I need to change, whether the board is really picky with ram or that the board is not stable when the FSB is set to 133 manually.

  • 845G Max problem

My system is running fine at default speed. When it's overclocked to 133MHz FSB, it will always crash at the same spot when booting into Windows. That's when I use the Intel built-in graphics card.
When I use the TNT2, it will only boot into Windows in safe mode at 133MHz. And I see a lot of conflicts in the display card properties, i845G something, can't remember.
There's no option to properly disable the built in AGP. And why is it not working at 133MHz, I thought at 133MHz, everything is running at default speed, right?
    Here's my system specs:
    P4 1.8A
    MSI i845G Max
    Corsair PC2700 RAM
    Creative TNT2 (when I test)
    DLink NIC
BTW, the same processor works fine when it's overclocked to 145MHz FSB using MSI 645DX.

My RAM is a PC2700, even if I change the ratio, it is still within the RAM spec.
Intel Extreme is extremely stable at 100MHz FSB as stated earlier. It will crash at the same spot when booting into Windows at 133MHz FSB.
I tested using a TNT2. It won't even boot into Windows at 100MHz FSB. But using safe mode, TNT2 works fine at 133MHz FSB. But when I checked the display properties, there's a lot of conflicts in between the Intel Extreme and TNT2.
Now my question is, why I can't use my TNT2 even at 100MHz? It was working fine using another MSI 845G Max before I sent for RMA.
Why Intel Extreme doesn't work at 133MHz FSB? I've tried all the memory timings, ratio FYI. It has nothing to do with RAM timings I'm afraid. I tested the same RAM on my KT3. 166MHz at agressive timings run perfectly well.

  • MSI 845G Max-L power problem?

My system is about a month old as follows:
    MSI 845G Max-L (MSI-6580)
    P4 2.26 Northwood 533bus w/stock Intel fan
    512meg Corsair XMS 2700
    MSI Geforce4 4400Ti
    SB Live 5.1
    Maxtor 40Gb ATA 133 7200rpm
    56X Aopen CD-rom
    16X10X40 Lite-on CD-rw
    420watt PS
It was bought and assembled from Ibuypower.com with the harddrive formatted only... no OS installed. I installed WinXP Pro and installed all necessary drivers . Everything was running GREAT until about a week ago, something strange began to happen. When using the shut down option in WinXP, and using "turn off" my computer will power down and sometimes spontaneously reboot instead of the power shutting off completely. Sometimes it will delay 3-4 seconds with all power off, including the case fans, lights, cpu fan, then powers back up. Last night, I powered down before bed and it stayed off...at least that's what I thought... when I woke up this morning, it was back on again. I can't figure for the life of me what is going on.. any help would be appreciated.   ?(

make sure all wake on options are of in bios

  • Can't get COM2 to work on 845G MAX

I'm running the 845G MAX with a 2.26 P4 and 512mb RAM on WinXP Pro.
I am unable for get any I/O through COM2.  To test the ports, I'm using HyperTerminal over a null modem cable to a laptop.  When running this config, I have no problem communicating over COM1.  However, when I switch to COM2, I get nothing.  Strangely, the software recognizes COM2 as being there and active, but I can't get it to communicate.
I am using a connector that terminates to a DB-9 male and fits perfectly in the COM2 port on the motherboard.  In the BIOS, I tried setting the Super I/O setting for Serial Port B to both auto and also forcing COM2.  Nothing.
And the strange part to me is that any software I run seems to recognize COM2 as being active, it just cannot communcate over it.
    Any ideas?

Try swapping the pins in the cable (ie. 1 with 2, 3 with 4, 5 with 6, etc).  Also, the pinout in the manual is wrong:
    Wrong:1 2
                3 4
                5 6
                7 8
                9
    Right:  1 6
               2 7
               3 8
               4 9
               5
    Worked for me!
    Good luck.

  • 845G max , VGA drivers slowdown the system

    hi, my new machine: C4 1.7G , MSI 845G max, Kingston DDR 256M , Seagate U6 40G.   Win2000 Server
    Problems:
    1.  The boot time of win2000 server is too long as more than 1 minute, it is longer than my Celeron 300A system !!! I think it's abnormal.
    2. When I have installed win2000 server, then I install the Intel VGA drivers, but after I have finished the VGA drivers installation, the system comes into slow. For example I click right button of the mouse on the desktop,  the menu poped out slowly, and when I open a window also slowly.
I have try to upgrade the bios and Intel INF , Intel VGA drivers to last version, but there are no effects.

Did you update win2000 to SP2 or SP3 and update directX8.1?
    Preferably the process will be:
    -clean install
    -SP2/3
    -intel inf
    -directx8.1b
    -VGA drivers

  • 845g max with sb audigy

Yesterday i installed my new mainboard 845g max, and put in my old sb-audigy player.
It installs but then it is not recognised by the system later on, also when I try to update the drivers, it says that no audigy is installed. ALso after booting again, it says twice that the audiodevice is not installed properly.
I tried several slots, all with same result......
    os is ME latest updates..
Bios is 1.2 (haven't got fdd installed)
    512mb
    p4 2,26 533

I did install the inf's first the cd version and later the updates....
    Didn't work either.
Found a lot of similar problems concerning audigy with kt7 boards....
Seems creative is preparing a major driverupdate of 50 mb.
I tried xp yesterday, same problem, when I installed the latest inf-file, computer resets and has irrecoverable error....Finally I gave up, I will use the onboard sound for a while until creative updates the drivers...
    thanks for suggestions :]

  • 845G Max-L Memory Compatibility

Could anyone tell me if Corsair 2700XMS / 3200XMS memory is compatible with 845G Max?  ?(

LSU What BIOS Ver u using?....
I have just purchased 2 x 512MB Corsair XMS2700 running at 166Mhz.  With one stick works fine (I have checked boths sticks individually).   However when I place the 2nd stick into DIMM 3 (as per DIMM config diagram) the machine either fails to boot or hangs...  I must admit I haven't tested the second DIMM into DIMM2, but I'm not holding my breath...  I have checked the video card too...  Placed in my Radeon 9700 locks and also placed in my GF4 Ti4600 and locks too...  With one stick (either of them) is fine...  One more note I have tried running at 133Mhz too and I still get the same problem...
is it with MSI, can't they release a board that actually works reliably...

  • 845G Max-L(MS-6580) & G4Ti4200-TD(MS-8870)

    Hi,
I'm having trouble with booting up using 845G Max-L(MS-6580) and G4Ti4200-TD(MS-8870).
When the system normally boots up, it first displays the Video card information on the screen then MSI full screen image is displayed, after that Windows starts loading.
However, when I boot the system, it very often does not even show videocard information but the screen just simlpy becomes white (sometimes very light blue or vertical stripes with several colors), then single beep and screen size adjustment seems to happen but it just doesn't go any farther.
So in order to get the system up and running, I just simply repeat rebooting the system. Quite often I have to repeat rebooting around 10 times.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?
    System:
    - 845G Max-L (MS-6580)
    - G4Ti4200-TD (MS8870) 128MB
    - Intel Celron 2.0GHz
    - DDR 128MB PC2100
    - Windows XP Home Edition

Okay, I think I finally got it work.    It was because of the PCI card that I had on Slot 6. I used Slot 3 instead, then it seems to work fine (shared INT problem?). Even using 250W power supply it works well. (Would it still be better to use 480W?)
Even though the problem seems gone, I'm not still clear about the problem, 'cause using ASUS V6800(old) with PCI card on Slot 6 did not cause the problem.
Do you have clear explanation? I guess I have a lot more stuff to learn.

  • Online game(Everquest) - 845G Max, Pent. 4, 1G ram - Crashing

I have a 845G Max, Pent 4 with 1 g ram, and Win XP installed. When I instal a 256mb Video card, the game will crash.  The game patchs itself every time I log in. All my drivers are up to date. I have tried both ATI & Nvidia card and have the same problem , so it has to be the MSI problem and not the video cards. The game is the only problem I have.  I have even tried to uninstall the on board video 1st , then intall the Video card, no luck.  Any sugestions and or help?

Thanks so much!   Been banging my head and ripping out my hair with this problem

  • Max problem ok, but how about a Min dito

So, the Max problem is fixed(see below), but how can I manage a Minimum dito?
    int[] stor = {s1,s2,s3,s4,s5,s6,s7};
    java.util.Arrays.sort(stor);
    System.out.println("Max " + stor[stor.length-1]);
    /Martin

I wouldn't use the Arrays.sort method for very large
arrays, because it'll just be extremely slow.
Preferably use the method with loops through the
entire array, as I have stated earlier.sorry, but you're talking rubbish.

  • Which 845G Max-L bios version are you running?

    Before I flash my 845G Max-L bios from v1.1 to v1.4, I
thought I'd post a message asking what bios version are the owners of the 845G Max-L board are currently running.
I noticed that v1.4 fixes 'CPU microcode', but I don't believe that Intel would leave it to MSI to update the CPU (P4) microcode!  What does v1.4 really fix?

I've never flashed an AMI bios (only a Phoenix bios on another computer) but I have two questions .....
I'm currently running WinXP Home with 4 partitions
    primary, 2nd, 3rd partitions ( C: D: E: ) are formatted as NTFS, but the 4th partition ( F: ) is FAT.
Should I just copy the amifl827.exe and A6580IMS.140
to the FAT formatted  F: partition, reboot using Win98 floppy and flash from the F: partition OR should I just copy them to the ramdisk and run from the ramdisk?
Will amifl827 try to access my C: partition and flake out because it is formatted as NTFS or does it just do it's thing from the partition I'm flashing from and ignore all the other partitions?
Copy the bios files onto a floppy disk and flash from there

  • 845G Max L (MS-6580G) Bios 1.40 Issue

    I ran MSI's Live Update 2 and downloaded bios 1.40 for my 845G Max L (MS-6580G).
When I went to run it I got a strange warning and it tried to locate some sort of DOS files.. what is up with this? Is this a beta bios? Is this a mistake?
If not, what is it trying to do? I chose to ignore the error and it did flash my machine, but I am unsure of what it might have missed.

  • 845G MAX L

    MSI MOTHERBOARD 845G MAX etc
    BIOS 1.4
Keyboard microsoft internet PS2 or/also in USB
With PS2 keyboard and direct pressing sleep button
    PC reset itself.
With USB keyboard I get a warning that there is something wrong with the keyboard driver.
This happens only with this MOBO.
Never press the sleep button is an option, but not the right one.
Is it depending from BIOS settings . I tries different one but no solution.
    Anyone ideas?

Suspend issues are mostly caused by drivers (chipset drivers and VGA drivers mostly).
Install the intel inf and try changing VGA drivers.
