845GE Max L and Kingston RAM problems

I'm building a system using an MSI 845GE Max L mobo, P4 2.4 and a 512MB stick of Kingston PC2700  DDR ValueRAM.  When I turned the computer on the first time, it started, then immediately turned off, and then came on again.  When I tried to install WinXP, it always stopped at some point with a BSOD complaining about problems with the NTFS Master File Table.  Yet the hard drive and NTFS setup checked out OK and did all hardware, connections, etc.  I switched to another power supply and removed/disconnected everything except the bare essentials.  Still the same problems.  Finally, the system started freezing after turning off and then back on.  I couldn't even get into the CMOS.
When I pulled out the RAM stick and substituted a 512MB stick of Kingston PC2100, everything proceeded perfectly.  Does anybody know of any problems the 845GE Max has had with Kingston PC2700 ValueRAM?  I guess it could be sick RAM, but I somehow recall hearing past complaints about Kingston ValueRAM and some MSI boards.
Thanks for any help!
Larc

Thanks for the suggestion, but that unfortunately doesn't work.  When I put the culprit RAM module in and upped DDR voltage to 2.6, boot failed.  MemTest wouldn't start and I had no video.
When I ran MemTest with the bad RAM in place last night, I stupidly allowed the system to boot into XP after the test finished.  WinXP was trashed!  The system wouldn't boot into Win even after I put in good RAM.  Thank goodness it was a new installation and nothing had been installed except XP.
It looks as if I not only got a bad stick of RAM, but a vicious one at that!
Thanks again for your help.

Did you buy a Tri-channel memory kit for Intel systems? If so, you bought the wrong memory. Read the memory sticky topic up top...
AMD64 CPUs have a dual channel memory controller, you need 1,2 or 4 sticks for best operation.

  • MBR CoreDuo 2 and kingston ram

    Hi there!
I guess thit topic has been discussed but still I'd be very grateful for any oppinions.
I have 1Gb (from the beggining) of ram in my MBP.
I want to buy 1Gb more. I've decided to go for Kingston because one from apple is to expensive and I know kingston producec good memory. But kingston has a lot of 1Gb modules, could anyone please tell me which model to buy? (KTA...???).
They differ in price within different modules.
I want it to work with my original 1GB, please let me know of your experiences.
    Thanks a lot
    Adam Mscisz

You should ONLY buy RAM which have a model number prefixed by KTA-MB667 excepting KTA-MB667K2 models (these are in kits of 2 SODIMMs and are typically aimed at Mac mini and MacBook owners who want to match SODIMMs). These models have been tested and are rated for use in a MacBook Pro.
The 1GB part number you want to buy is KTA-MB667/1G.

  • RAM and Virtual RAM Problems with Fireworks

I'm working on a Fireworks file with 25 pages and some heavy graphics. However, I've turned some of the heavy objects into symbols which are repeated from page to page.
The file is 17 Mb and my Virtual Memory bumps to 3.4 Gigs when I open this file and things are slow and often crash. I'm working on a Mac with CS4 and have 4 Gigs of RAM. The actual ram is 2.27 GB. Seems like a crap ton of Ram? Plus it's running slow and crashes regularly.
Please advise if there are settings I can change to improve the performance.

    I have this same problem.
We design websites like shops and stuff. We'll need to work out all the pages and show them to our clients.
I have just finished a site with 45 pages. I have to cut this up in 3 different files. Highly annoying. And working on a windows system to so you get my irritations.
I get the feeling that this is a result of the buggy-ness in Fireworks. The contact with the Adobe help-team is dramatic. I don't understand that you sell a product this expensive and not give a good service afterwhile.
I must say that i don't have any problems with the other programs. Only Fireworks. The rest is very good (to end with someting nice)

  • Kt3ultra2 and infineon RAM problem

My MSI Kt3ultra2 board was working perfect for the last 6 months with one 256MB Cl2 infineon PC2100 RAM module. after I changed the RAM to one 512MB Cl 2.5 infineon PC2700 RAM module I have one black screen after the other and can't even boot my system - the screen stays black.
BIOS is the latest version 5.70 and I didn't change anything else but the RAM.
On 3DMark 2001SE I had about 7500 marks with the old RAM and now only 4900 marks.
I tested the 512MB RAM in another system where it was working perfectly, so I don't think that I got a defective RAM.
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thank you.

  • KT6 Delta LSR Ram problem

    Hey guys,
Just making a post on behalf of m8, Basicley he's got a sempron 2500+ and kingston ram that is tested as ok in the Test Report book. however we are getting a d-bracket error of light 1 = red, light 2 = green, light 3 = red, light 4 = red. we also get 3 short beeps. We've tryed other ram in the machine but still get the same probs. The mobo and cpu are brand new. any ideas on what procedures to take next????

I don't mind, really. Excuse me for being so stubborn, also, but people come in all shapes.
You had another very good idea, Dr Stu, about the graphics card. It is hard to say where D-bracket finds its POST errors. The first 64kb I think has to do with loading/holding BIOS "drivers"/wakening the BIOS controlled hard ware, and that would be why the POST sequence checks it, but I can't guarantee this.
As stated it would be nice to know the PSU specs. This board relies heavily on the 12V, and even if you successfully post, your system would be crippled without ca 18A on the 12 volt line.
On some occassions POST has been successful by removing all unnecessary parts from the mobo, and running it outside the case. Just to POST you wouldn't need mouse or keyboard or USB devices or PCI cards etc, and hardly even the monitor.

  • 845GE MAX Memory Ram Issue

The problem I am having, is if I run more then 3 programs at a time. My system runs out of ram. And thats when I am running a Internet brouser, Mirc (chat program), Agent (News group reader). My old PS2 486 25 mhz system out performs this one. Everything has been a clean install with this new system.
I have tried the Goodmem. It stated, I have over 400 mb of free memory. The program seems useless, as far as freeing up Ram. When I have the program open Then it drops to 0 if one or more of the programs are accessed at the same time. I have found a program called Rambooster v1.6 that seems to free up ram when I am accessing these programs. But still with a high end system like this. I should not have to depend on Childlike programs for this system to run normally.
    Motherboard: 845GE MAX
    Processor:   Pentium 4 2.53 ghz
    Memory:      DDR 512 mb
    OS:          Windows ME
    Main HD:     Maxtor 80 gig
    Bios is set for default.
All Drivers and Bios have been updated using MSI Live Update 2.
Any Input/Ideas/Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated......

  • 845GE MAX and Linux

    Hello erverybody,
i have installed Debian Linux on my system which contains the MSI Mainboard
845GE MAX. Normally Debian Linux works really good with Intel chipsets, but in
this case it does not. I've tried everything (new Kernel, serveral different Installations)
but all installation have got the same problem. The system is peculiarly slow.
HDD and Memory benchmarks are not that bad, but even small processes take a lot
of CPU. eg: top usually takes between 0,1 and 2% of CPU depending on the amount of running tasks, but in this case it takes between 10 and 20%. Due to the fact that most tasks take more then 99% the system ist really slow. I've already flashed the bios.
    Anybody an idea?
    Thank you!
    yours,
    Merhan

Perhaps it's time to give Debian a break.... try others like SUSE, Mandrake maybe can give you better results...

  • Z77A-GD65 ram and DR. mos problem after 2 years without any HW change or OC!

Hi guys, i have three Z77A-GD65 from 2 years with the same hardware config, no overclock or others OC settings ....simply default bios settings;  in this last 2 months, not at the same time, all of my 3 mainboards  have the same identical problem.
One day, from nowhere, without any reason, i start my pc and mobo don't start, hangs with code 55 ( memory error) and Dr mos alarm led goes on, i try to reset bios .. nothing.
I Switch multibios to "B" bios and works perfectly .. i've tested all of RAM modules and result works perfectly !! .... all of three mainboards have the same identical problem!!
Now i use all my 3 PCs with "B" bios and works perfectly, because "A" bios hangs always with code 55 and with Dr. mos alarm led on, i try to update and downgrade "A" bios ... nothing to do ... "A" bios don't work anymore.
    Any idea?

    Don't have to be rude
If same problem is on 3 motherboards then is something wrong with RAM or BIOS not the motherboard
    >>Posting Guide<< Reminding again if you want to receive any help.
Nichrome, you misunderstood! ... I just responded to your affirmation .. that's all, it was not my intention to was "rude" as you wrote! OK?
Ram  modules have been tested on other Asus mainboard  .. .. no read/write errors and no hangs problems ... so all Ram modules are fine
About bios ..... maybe primary bios is physically damaged.... i try to reflash bios also with old version .. no way .. maybe primary bios damage in all 3 mainboards  !! very strange!!! ... you know if there's a know manufacturing defect on this MB bios maybe on a particular MB serial part number? because i bought all 3 mainboards at same time about 2 years ago.
Quote from: Sea Dog on 19-July-14, 02:40:52
Obviously, there is 'something' that has caused BIOS corruption in all 3 mainboards A chips. Whatever that 'something' is, it may happen to the backup B chips as well. Recommend to concentrate on finding this 'something', what the common denominator is, and restoring BIOS chips A before the mainboards may become expensive paperweights. A shop with an SPI flash programmer device can fix the broken BIOS chips if not comfortable with doing the recovery procedure yourself.
Hi, yes i agree,  In fact, my fear is to have, in a while, these mainboard totally unusable!  ..... i think that primary bios is physically damaged or i hope, software damaged, I would try to recover it,  if it's only a software problem (i hope so) ... do you know a procedure to completely erase cleanly that reflash the primary bios? i try to use dos MSI flash utility with "/p /b /n" options .. no success to restore A bios ... same story ... error 55 and DR-mos alarm led on.

  • 3ds max, viz and autocad problems with bootcamp

I recently bought a new mac pro 2 quad 3.0 as a workstation. I have two hardrives installed one for mac os system and the other one is for windows and bootcamp.
The problem is that after using 3dsmax or any autodesk program for a while. I turn off the computer and comeback next day and click to continue on my 3ds max file and asks me to activate the software again. This is typical for viz, or autocad. I have to call autodesk every day to activate my software. Tired of reactivating the software everyday...
They told me the problem is with bootcamp..
    anybody has any recoomendations?
    plz help..

I am going through the same problem with v9 and 2008. I am running a MacPro workstation with bootcamp to Vista. I was using v9 fine until I upgraded to 2008 and then the licensing issues happened when switching between Mac/PC. I also upgraded to Leopard so I don't know who is to blame. I want to know if Autdesk changed the licensing technology or if the newer bootcamp in Leopard is the problem. Now I'm wishing I didn't get the Mac thinking I could run core apps like 3DSMax.

  • KT4 Ultra RAM problems and others

    Hi,
    just bought KT4 Ultra, with 512MB DDR-RAM 266/2100 CL 2,5 and Athlon XP 2100+, BIOS V1.2.
During boot-up the computer tells me, that I've got 1024 MB RAM although I only have 512MB. Linux says the same and RAM Test Software does too !! I can't install RedHat nor Windows XP, they always crash, prbably due to RAM problem.
I've already tried out all 3 memory slots.
Any suggestion what to do ?
Why does the computer not recognize any device on the 3rd IDE port ( neither IBM Deskstar w/ 40GB, LS 120 Drive, CD-ROM Drive). My BIOS doesn't show ANY options for the 3rd IDE port!
    TIA

'Have no other RAM available right now.
And I can't start my computer anymore, since the cpu fan wont work. I plugged the cpu fan into the manboard-fan plug but then the mainboard won't be cooled. That can't work all too long, can it ?

  • Kingston RAM and MacBook / MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I am finally going to be buying my MacBook Pro C2D in the next couple of days and have a question on Kingston RAM.
I am interested in the 2.16 model and loading it up with 2GB of RAM. When I went to the Apple boutique here in Canada, I was told that if I order my computer from the Apple site with Apple RAM it will take 1 month to receive!!!! Is this true? They told me they could get the model as advertised on the site (2.16 Ghz, 1 GB RAM and 120 hard disk) and put in Kingston RAM instead.
They said that Kingston RAM is supported by Apple and will greatly cut down the wait time and I will end up having my computer in a couple of days instead of a month. Is this a sales pitch they are pulling on me? Does it really take a month for a C2D with 2 GB of RAM (in the base model)? If I use any other kind of RAM am I voiding my warranty? The price they are quoting me is not really that much cheaper than Apple's so I don't know what the big deal is unless there is something I am missing here.
I am opting to get the lower model with more RAM instead of the 2.33 model with 2 GB since I don't think I will be using the 256 video card and I can save 400$ in the process. I love the 15" screen which is my main issue for wanting a MB Pro over the MB. I know the MB would be fine for me, but not the 13" screen. I plan on keeping my system for a good 4-5 years and I think the 13" screen will not meet my needs.
Any help you could give would be MOST helpful as I need to be purchasing my MB Pro by the end of the week. I will be starting teacher's college very shortly and need to get my system as quickly as possible.
As usual these forums are a GREAT resource! Thanks much for any help you could pass on!
    Cheers,
    Mark

It will not take any longer to get if you order it from Apple. It won't void your warranty installing RAM yourself either. I ordered my MBP from Apple, got it in about a week and installed an extra 1G of Apple-certified RAM from here. It's been working fantastic.
