845PE Max 3 CPU - 800 or 533?

I'd appreciate some help. I would like to overclock the board to 800mz but have no idea whether I have the correct CPU to do this. How do I find out?
Thanks

Thanks. I do have the manual and am aware that I would require PC3200 ram. I am also aware how to do it.
However, it is the following extract from the manual that confuses me :-
"The default spec of Intel 845PE chipset is only able to support FSB 400/533 Mhz CPU........"
then
"CPU FSB 800mhz/DDR400 is not the default spec... If you decided to use Intel's FSB 800mhz CPU  etc
This, maybe wrongly, suggests to me that there are 400, 533 and 800mhz CPU's.  At present mine is set for 533mz but overclocked to 588mz.
Is then, my Northwood CPU capable of all of the above speeds.  I just had the feeling when I bought the CPU that there was a choice of 400 or 533?
EDIT :-
I checked the Intel website and it shows Northwood as 400/533. There is also a hyperthreaded one rated at FSB 800mz.  It would seem a Prescott CPU is required for 800mhz and that mine will not run at 800.

  • 4.0 BIOS for 845PE Max

    I have this motherboard 845PE Max (MS-6580 Ver.:2.0).
And i have some question about BIOS v4.0. Here is written: Update Description: Support CPU with HT function. Does it mean that this MB now support Prescott CPU? I know that in Cpu support is written that no, but it is with old BIOS version (A6580IMS.380). I think that CPU with another core (Northwood) doesnt support hyper-threading... I think that HT is supported only by Prescotts.

I believe bios HT support for your board, means HT support for 3,06/533mhz Northwood.
It´s the only Northwood/533mhz with HT ( why this support is coming so late I don´t know )
Your board has no support for Prescott 533/800mhz or CeleronD Cpu´s.
Probably it´s not enough with just a bios update, since it´s more too it regarding motherboard construction/powermanagement.
You need a new board if you want a 800mhz cpu or a prescott 533/800mhz cpu.

  • Max size CPU for 6156bx ?

    Hi all,
I'm still playing about with the "old trusty" ms6156bx MoBo. The P3 650 cpu was working fine untill we had a lightning strike fairly close to home - fried the CPU. So had to resort back to the P2 400  ;( (MoBo & all else still working fine)
Question is, Does anyone know what the max size CPU this board can take ? I have the chance of getting hold of a P3  1 ghz 100 fsb cpu ,But not sure if Mobo could take it. Maybe an 800 would be better (if I can find one)
    Any advice ???

Hi, to get a Tualatin to work on that mobo you need a FCPGA2 to Slot 1 converter, it is not very usual, perhaps you don´t have this slocket, one that it´s known is the Powerleap PL-IP3 or something like that, it supports Tualatin processors. Check if your converter supports Tualatin processors first, so you don´t burn a processor again!!!

  • 845PE Max Series overclocking question.

I have the 845PE Max Series motherboard with 1.7 Pentium 4 CPU and 1 gig of ram, 128mb AGP card.
Anyways, I would like to try overclocking it, I never really did it, I understand the basic foundemantals of it,
but what would be a good safe limit to raise the clock speed from 1.7 to 2 ?
will I see any significant increases ?
    Any recommendations?

The biggest thing to keep in mind when overclocking is not all hardware is the same. Somebody with your same processor may be able to overclock it to 2.7GHz where you might be limited to 2.2GHz. And when you are overclocking keep in mind it will overclock your memory too, so if it is not high quality your overclock may not be stable. With overclocking the only science is starting small, testing, then increase. Make sure you keep an eye on your temps. I would not want to see a processor go above 55C when under load.
    Good Luck

  • Sensors 845PE Max-L

    hi!
    i have a MSI 845PE Max-L.
What does the Sys-Temp (Winbond 1) stand for??? Case or NorthBridge?
And Winbond 3 has always ~60°(Celsius). What does this Sensor measure?
The Winbond2-Diode measures the CPU-Temp right?

I don't try the high density memory myself, so please refer the memory test report here which is supported by MSI website.

I originally had 2 pieces of 512 DDR333 Samsung memory but one of these was found to be faulty, it boots up ok with just the one good piece.
We then purchased 2 pieces of Kingmax 512 DDR333 neither of these will boot in either DIMM slot why is this is this not supported?
     ;(

As far as Windows 98 and over 512MB of ram, you have to set the swapfile and there are some lines you have add to system.ini(I believe). I'll see if I can find my notes on that and post it here, or you might try a google search.
Edited: never mind, I see wonkanoby already posted a link to the info.

  • MSI 845PE Max Lan - MS-6580 Ver.2.0 boot failure

I recently purchased this mainboard and components. All's working fine except for 1 strange issue:
On each 1st boot-up (after I powered down) the harddisk (UDMA 100, 80GB Western Digital) is not detected. This results in a boot failure.
After this 1st failure I reset and from then on booting is OK, harrdisk is succesfully detected (although it always takes about 10-15 seconds before detecting).
Anyone else experiencing the same problems?
    This is my config:
    - MSI 845PE Max Lan
    - 2,4GHz P4
    - Western Digital 80GB 7200rpm (set as master, only device on its cable)
    - ATI Radeon 9700
    - 512 MB DDR (pc2700)
    Hope anyone can help out.

Note: FSB533 CPU is required in order to choose DDR333 selection in the BIOS setup

  • MS-6580 (845PE Max VER 2.0) not POSTING with 2GB of DRAM -- POST with only 1GB

Ok I am currently fixing a client's PC, he wanted a RAM upgrade from 1GB to 2GB. I purchased a Komputerbay 2GB (2 X 1GB) DDR DIMM (184 PIN) 333Mhz DDR333 PC2700 kit, it was the cheapest I could find. The problem is, the system will not POST with the two 2GB modules installed, only with 1GB on either DIMM slot. I've tested them both RAM modules, and they work. Before, the PC had 2x 512MB DRAM installed, and it was working, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the DIMM slots.
When I start the system, I get two paused beeps, and some weird noise, not sure what is.
I've read the motherboard manual, and it says the maximum support is 2GB DDR 333mhz.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Does it post with only one 2GB dimm installed?
    I don't believe the board/chipset will support 4GB(2x2GB).
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/845PE-Max2.html#/?div=Detail
I don't know where you're getting 4GB, I never said anything about 4GB - I must have made a type but what I mean was: The motherboard wouldn't post with two 1GB modules (2GB) as specified to be the maximum according to the manual. It would only post with 1GB(1x1GB or 2x512MB) or 1.5GB(1x1GB + 1x512MB) of RAM.
No worries, the problem is resolved now.

  • 845PE Max won't detect X800 AIW

I'm having an issue with my old 845PE Max mobo. I've had the Radeon X800 All-In-Wonder work before on this mobo, but after a recent format the card just won't budge! The mobo detected the card as a plug & play gfx card and everything went smooth, but after the recent format things didn't go as smooth.
When I boot the computer with the Rad now, XP doesn't detect it as a plug & play card and the annoying vgasave is initiated. I've read and tried several fixes. Installed the newest INF update with the MSI Update Tool (which didn't do the trick), tried the INF update from Intel and finally booting XP by hitting F8 and running VGA Mode, none of which worked.
What I don't get is why the card worked fine before the format, but not after?!
Probably time for me to get out from under my rock and get a new rig, but I'm not willing to give up on this one quite yet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Fischer
PS: Before you ask, I've got SP2, Framework 2.0 and the whole nine yards in XP updates.

Thanks for the input. I'll try, but if it doesn't work I'll just plug in a dated Nvidia card and pass the rig on. I'm crawling out under the rock and getting a new mobo+chip+ram+pci express gfx, and design a new rig. :D
To reflect on this mobo: I've had this mobo since it came out, quite a few years ago, together with some cheap 512 sticks and a Intel P4 2.4 Ghz which I've been able to squeeze 3.1 Ghz out of with a later dual rad watercooling solution, and it's been running like this for years without a glitch. So, I think it's safe to say that I got more then my moneys worth. Salute!
Thanks for the help, both of you.
    Regards,
    Fischer

  • 845pe max 2 and floppy drive probs

    I've got a 845pe max 2 fisr mobo
My floppy drives' LED is continuously illuminated when I turn on.
Windows 98se says it's an NEC floppy drive even though I didn't insert any drivers for it or anything. When I put a floppy disk in to it the drive can't read and a message in windows indicates that there is no disk inserted.
The thing is the drive worked when I first set up my system but that is the one and only time. I suppose it's a positive thing that the LED works.
    Any ideas anyone?

Don't worry, it won't hurt your motherboard.  It definitely sounds like that's the problem (floppy cabble upside down).  Simply spin it around, and it should fix your problem (the "key" as you put it is facing down on my floppy drive).
If that doesn't fix the problem, try using a different cable.

  • 845PE Max no boot

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I recently experienced a power surge and subsequently noticed my system had been taken down.  Upon reboot, I noticed no video signal to monitor but system seemed to be running/fans spinning.  After sub'ing out new monitor, noticed that diagnostic led's indicating that RAM check in boot sequence was where system was hung.  Swapped out with known good DDR board, no change...tried reseting CMOS, no change...is there a chance that the motherboard is fried, part of the power supply toasted,  what else??  Any help...thanks again.

  • 845PE MAX-FIR Gigabit Lan Prob

    I just got 845PE MAX-FIR last week.
But I have prob with Gigabit Lan controller. Windows(2k) detects it alright and says it works ok; however, it can't detect lan cable if I insert it.
First, I thought it was prob with lan cable, so I installed old realtek lan card. And it works fine with old lan card.
So I send the board for repair and got a new board. BUT! it still won't detect if the lan cable is inserted. What should I do? It's not prob with ethernet controller(since it looks working fine under windows(98 & 2000) and not the prob with lan cable. Does Gigabite lan uses different lan cable? I heard it's not...then what is the problem? HELP!

I believe you require Catergory 6 Cabling, as we where studying this the other day in class :D

  • 845PE Max (6580 v.2.0) and Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus - Problem!

    Hi!
My mobo (845PE Max - MS 6580 v.2.0) detecting my hard disk (Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 80GB ATA133 7200rpm) as the drive working in UltraDMA/2 mode (ATA33). What is wrong? How can I set it to work in mode UltraDMA/5 (ATA100)???
Please, help me as quick as possible.
    Best regards
    Martin "Kenickie"

System: MS Windows XP Pro. No Service Pack 1 installed yet.
    But it doesn't matter.
Disk is recognized as UDMA/2 by BIOS!!! I upgraded BIOS to newest (3.40) but it didn't help.
This Maxtor is connected as Primary Master, and there is a CD-Recorder (TEAC CD-W516EB) on the same cable as Primary Slave. Teac is also recognized as UDMA/2. At the secondary Controller I have CD-ROM Drive (TEAC x32).
