845PE Max (6580 v.2.0) and Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus - Problem!

Hi!
My mobo (845PE Max - MS 6580 v.2.0) detecting my hard disk (Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus 80GB ATA133 7200rpm) as the drive working in UltraDMA/2 mode (ATA33). What is wrong? How can I set it to work in mode UltraDMA/5 (ATA100)???
Please, help me as quick as possible.
Best regards
Martin "Kenickie"

System: MS Windows XP Pro. No Service Pack 1 installed yet.
But it doesn't matter.
Disk is recognized as UDMA/2 by BIOS!!! I upgraded BIOS to newest (3.40) but it didn't help.
This Maxtor is connected as Primary Master, and there is a CD-Recorder (TEAC CD-W516EB) on the same cable as Primary Slave. Teac is also recognized as UDMA/2. At the secondary Controller I have CD-ROM Drive (TEAC x32).

  • K8N DIAMOND and MAXTOR 200Gb ATA size problem

Hi all forum! i´m new here. I have a MSI K8N DIAMOND SLI board, all is ok but the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200gb is only 33gb in the Bios and in Windows XP SP2. The Jummpers are fine and i chaged it for all positions and the result was the same.
And in the Maxtor page it says
    https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1062&p_sid=3mOkRPXh&p_lva=#
The Solution 1: I reformated the hard drive severals times and the same result :(
The Solution 2: I have de newer official bios 1.7
The Solution 3. I have formateated with ntfs
I don´t know how resolve this problem, thanks for your time reading my post and sorry for my bad grammar.
    See You!

On K8N Diamond the Sil3132 is a Raid5 controller. You can only install Raid5 driver (SataLink and SataRaid drivers don't work, only SataRaid5).
Use the latest driver version 1.2.3.1. You can download it from MSI.
If you don't use Raid, then you must go into the Silicon Image bios setup utility (CTRL+S or F4, when displayed) and set for each drive a JBOD array (Create Array -> JBOD).
(On newer bios JBOD has changed to CONCATENATION.)

  • K8N Neo2 + Maxtor DiamondMax 10 (SATA) problems!

    hello.
i wanted to know, if anyone knows a working solution for the problem that the nforce3 chipset / nvidia sata controller / mobo bios or just (some?) k8n neo2 mobos causes the system to freeze while booting when a maxtor diamondmax 10 is installed?
for anyone who still has problems: a temporary solution for 1-drive-users is to plug the drive to the sata4 port (right between the agp and the cpu socket), instead of plugging it to sata1, which would be the correct procedure under ordinary circumstances though.
i found out that my own system was highly unstable as long as i connected the drive to one of the first two sata ports. the other ones worked better. is the problem limited to sata 1/2 on everyone's board? if not, it would be RMA-able.
but there is another thing besides the instability of these expensive pieces of trash (sorry, no other hard drive and mobo has given me a harder time yet!) that bothers me more:
why is my maxtor diamondmax 10 6b300s0 so noisy? on idle it runs very smooth and is quiet, but under heavy load it almost roars as loud as my old u2w-scsi drives i had back in 1995. could it be that windows or the sata controller does not turn on the cache?
i hope, somebody can share his experience.
    wan-hi

I've got the neo2 and 2 Diamondmax 10 Maxtors in RAID1. I've had loads of trouble as well... Today is my first day without a freeze and hard reboot needed. I started building (slowly mind you) about 3 weeks ago.
If this is actually stable now, perhaps you can try a similar setup. All these steps had frequent hangs and re-attempts.. I got through in the end tho. (Doesn't instill confidence that you have a stable build tho!!)
I have the 2 drives on SATA 3,4
All SATA BIOS settings are enabled (inc port 1,2 settings)
I used the 2 RAID drivers on the supplied floppy disk (same revisions as on the website currently)
I installed WinXP with service Pack 1 built in (is that what people mean when they say a streamlined XP install?)
After updating all the motherboard drivers etc, I installed Service Pack 2. With SP2 I had frequent unrepeatable hangs, but cpu burn type programs and games wouldn't trigger it.
Only office type work/browsing seemed to kill it.
I switched to a USB mouse from PS2, and that seemed to help.
Last thing I tried was uninstalling SP2 and it's lasted all day now. Longest strtech previously was 3,4 hours of intermittent use.
I agree with you about the noisy Maxtors though.. I had a Seagate Barracuda before and that was really silent. These don't whine at all but clatter when seeking.
Apparently with the Diamondmax 9's you could use a Maxtor utility to quieten (slow) the seeks, and a IBM/Hitachi util also worked.
I can't get either to work cos the 10's are SATA only drives. Maxtor util only works with IDE (or perhaps SATA non RAID), and IBM just fails to see them.. shame. I think the Maxtor util might work with some other, older SATA controllers... have to track someone down with a compatible setup who doesn't mind me carving up their machine. Actually haven't tried adjusting when the drives aren't RAIDed.. hmmm.

  • Maxtor diamondmax 300gb drive problems

I recently had my HD RMA'd after having tons of crashes which I put down to driver errors and such. The crashes turned into BSOD's and I ran the maxtor test floppy and it gave a error message and a RMS number.
Maxtor sent the new drive to me today.
Windows install went fine, then after installing a few drivers It would hang during restart and restart itself again before fully loading windows. It did this a few times. Then It got stuck on the detecting harddrive part of booting up.
Ran the maxtor test floppy on it and it passed the fast and normal test.
    I just know it's gonna go wobbly again :/ I'm 100% sure it's a HD problem.
Not sure what to do now, I would ideally just like a refund and get a different drive. ( the PC didn't crash once in over a week while I used my old IDE 80gig drive while waiting for this ) Maybe I got another dodgy drive or perhaps my motherboard just doesn't like these HD's?
I did notice in one of the bios's it mentioned support for maxtor 300gb drives was added, but maybe its not totally sorted.
I have the drive plugged into the SATA1 port. Is that the correct place for it? Only running 1 HD.

I have had nothing but problems with MSI Nforce4 boards and my Maxtor 300gb drive.
The only bios for the 7125 board that supports it is 1.2.
Bought a Hitachi Deskstar 180gb drive yesterday and have not had a single problem.
This is the first and last time that I will ever buy MSI motherboards.
The backup on bios's from MSI is abysmal they always seem to cure one problem and create another at the same time.
Buying a new hardrive was the only way I could flash to a bios that supports my new sandiego CPU.
I think I'll get myself one of those as well as it doesn't have NCQ or anything. If the shop wont swap the maxtor drive for me I guess I'll have to hang onto it and hope that at somepoint there will be a new bios that supports the maxtor HD again.
( btw everytime I run msi live monitor now, it cant getpast the searching mainboard bios version of hte auto search :/ )

  • 845PE Max Problems :(

    Hi,
I just installed the new 845PE Max 6580 motherboard.
    My system specs are
    3.06 ghz Pentium 4
    512 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
Radeon 9700 pro with latest 3.1 catalyst drivers
    SoundBlaster Live 5.1
    DirectX 9.0
    Windows XP
The problem is that the system randomly hangs without any bsod or any error. I cant hit the reset switch or power it off from the front. Only way to turn off the system is by switching off the button on the power supply at the back.
Any kind directx application (game or benchmark) hangs, be it 8 or 9. I thought it was as a result of directx 9.0 but it hung on 8.0 as well.
Random hangs also occur while playing any audio. Another thing is when i power up after the system after it crashed my logitech cordless mouse stops responding unless i swap the usb slot at the back.
I've updated the bios as well as the usb 2.0 drivers off the website but still no luck.

got the latest intel inf from MSI website. turned off hyperthreading as well in the BIOS.
the power supply came with the case i bought a week back. brand new... http://shop.store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/silverchenming.html
still getting these random freezes. freezes on me while listening to music on winamp, running IE, watching any movie on windows media player and games based on the unreal and like engines. somehow games like nba, fifa work fine.
also i made sure the radeon power supply not being shared by any device. the PCI slot below the radeon is empty as well.
i bought the motherboard from newegg.com and the worst part is apparently i cant RMA it back!
its driving me nuts. please there's gotta be a way to fix this. i'm sure some people are running the MSI 845PE with the radeon 9700 pro without any problems.
god..its going to drive me nuts if i'm going to shell out $120+ more to buy a new motherboard if it comes down to this.

  • Does MSI 845PE Max supports LBA

In fact all is in the title... Does MSI 845PE MAX (6580) supports for LBA drive?

Yes, as you need to have the patch incorporated in order to recognize the total drive to start with. There is some info here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305098

  • MS-6580 (845PE Max VER 2.0) not POSTING with 2GB of DRAM -- POST with only 1GB

Ok I am currently fixing a client's PC, he wanted a RAM upgrade from 1GB to 2GB. I purchased a Komputerbay 2GB (2 X 1GB) DDR DIMM (184 PIN) 333Mhz DDR333 PC2700 kit, it was the cheapest I could find. The problem is, the system will not POST with the two 2GB modules installed, only with 1GB on either DIMM slot. I've tested them both RAM modules, and they work. Before, the PC had 2x 512MB DRAM installed, and it was working, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the DIMM slots.
When I start the system, I get two paused beeps, and some weird noise, not sure what is.
I've read the motherboard manual, and it says the maximum support is 2GB DDR 333mhz.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Does it post with only one 2GB dimm installed?
    I don't believe the board/chipset will support 4GB(2x2GB).
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/845PE-Max2.html#/?div=Detail
I don't know where you're getting 4GB, I never said anything about 4GB - I must have made a type but what I mean was: The motherboard wouldn't post with two 1GB modules (2GB) as specified to be the maximum according to the manual. It would only post with 1GB(1x1GB or 2x512MB) or 1.5GB(1x1GB + 1x512MB) of RAM.
No worries, the problem is resolved now.

  • 845pe max 2 and floppy drive probs

    I've got a 845pe max 2 fisr mobo
My floppy drives' LED is continuously illuminated when I turn on.
Windows 98se says it's an NEC floppy drive even though I didn't insert any drivers for it or anything. When I put a floppy disk in to it the drive can't read and a message in windows indicates that there is no disk inserted.
The thing is the drive worked when I first set up my system but that is the one and only time. I suppose it's a positive thing that the LED works.
    Any ideas anyone?

Don't worry, it won't hurt your motherboard.  It definitely sounds like that's the problem (floppy cabble upside down).  Simply spin it around, and it should fix your problem (the "key" as you put it is facing down on my floppy drive).
If that doesn't fix the problem, try using a different cable.

  • MSI 845PE Max Lan - MS-6580 Ver.2.0 boot failure

I recently purchased this mainboard and components. All's working fine except for 1 strange issue:
On each 1st boot-up (after I powered down) the harddisk (UDMA 100, 80GB Western Digital) is not detected. This results in a boot failure.
After this 1st failure I reset and from then on booting is OK, harrdisk is succesfully detected (although it always takes about 10-15 seconds before detecting).
Anyone else experiencing the same problems?
    This is my config:
    - MSI 845PE Max Lan
    - 2,4GHz P4
    - Western Digital 80GB 7200rpm (set as master, only device on its cable)
    - ATI Radeon 9700
    - 512 MB DDR (pc2700)
    Hope anyone can help out.

Note: FSB533 CPU is required in order to choose DDR333 selection in the BIOS setup

I'm tring to upgrade to a TI 4800SE on the MSI 845PE MAX Motherboard. But windows XP won't boot. I can't get in the BIOS setup. Just the MSI logo at startup, and it retarts every 8 seconds. Please help! Tried uninstalled ATI driver first.

  • 845PE Max (MS-6580) & 1GB RAM in one stick

    Hello!
According to this mobo spec. I should be able to use High Density RAM modules. This mobo has 2 RAM slots and can handle up to 2 GB of RAM. Unfortunatuly when I'am puting in the 1GB RAM module (NCP NC00437) BIOS POST is counting only up to 32MB and stops.
I was trying every BIOS setting (incl. Vcc, CL) and it's always only 32MB. BIOS ver. is 4.0.
Please help. Is there anything I can do now?
    Best regards,
    rzodkiew

    Hi!
Well - it's DDR 400MHz. The CPU is Northwood based PIV (3,06), so I can operate at max 333MHz (without any O/C). So someone can say, that this module (1GB DDR 400MHz) doesn't work becouse it's... "under clocked" (form 400MHz to 333MHz). But I have also the 256MB DDR 400MHz module and it's working fine at 333MHz and even @266MHz.
Yes - I've trayed set it to 266MHz (with celeron 2,0) but it doesnt work either.
What's more - when I,am puting two of that modules together (slot1 - 1GB & slot2 - 256MB), the BIOS POST still counts it until 32MB and stops. When I put them in differen order - system doesnt boot at all.
I was wondering if there is maybe some kind of a trick (mayby some of the previous BIOS ver. is working, maybe I need to free up some PCI slot, ....) and someone, has the same problem before.
Thanks for any help - I will try everything.
    Regard,

  • 845pe Max

    Hi All,

HP R/W cdrom slave on ide1
    Creative DVD slave on ide2
    Win-2000 (sp1)
When booting system, only the first hard disk shows but bios shows everything. I then receive the following message:
PCI Vendor & Device id's do not match. PXE-E01
The operating system will not complete loading. Upgrading from Athlon 950 on TYAN motherboard. Any ideas please !!!!
    Kevin

I would also recommend a clean install.  From experience I can say this about Windows XP-  When upgrading a motherboard under XP's nose, it helps if they are all of similar chipset configuration (e.g. via to via, intel to intel, etc).  Upgrading from the P2  to the K62 to the Athlon 950 probably maintained a Via line of chipsets, and since all Via drivers are unified, there was no issue. Now with the introduction of the PE Max, the Intel 845PE chipset is introduced, and with XP loading Via drivers, to say the least, they will not happily get along.

This is probably a stupid question but I rather ask a stupid question than blow up my new 845PE Max 2 FIR.  This motherboard has 3 power connections.  Do I need to connect the power supply to all three or do I just use the big 20 pin connector by itself?

    Thanks.
I got it up and running late last night.  I didn't have time to mess around with it much, only to find out that when I set the high performance mode from the BIOS the system will not boot (no beep code, nothing. I had to clear CMOS and start over).  I'll post more of my opinions about the board when I have more time to play with it.
Any idea why I would be having the boot problem in high performance mode?  I have a P4 2.4B, MSI G4MX440-VTD8X Video Card, Kingston DDR333 512meg RAM, MAXTOR 40Gb ATA133 Hard Drive.
Thanks again and I hope you guys will understand that I am not only a newbie to this board I am also a newbie to building computers from scratch.  :]
